I ordered three meals, all which were nasty. The cat fish tasted and smelled as if it were cooked in old batter or grease. My sons ribs didn't have ANY sauce on them, none at all! My husbands Lima beans were hard, and the yams were Bruce's yams, straight out of the can, no extra sugar or spices to them.. we gave the baked chicken and ribs to our dogs and trashed everything else. I'm a southern girl who grew up on a farm and had to pick, shuck, shell, food during the summer to eat well during the winter months. I visited today on a Thursday and had country fried steak, dressing and gravy, white rice with gravy and collards! YES I TOOK IT TO THE EXTREME because I couldn't tell you the last time I had country fried steak along with all those sides. This meal is actually what my mother makes for me for my birthday meal when I make the five hour trip home. I enjoyed everything I had here. It was good soul food. The cornbread is a little sweet. The greens and meatloaf were good. The mac & cheese was not the best I have had but I enjoyed it. So where would this place rate in my foodie mind? The food is good and I will go back but it's not a place that comes across as extra special that you want to tell all your friends about. I visited GiGi's place for the first time on Sunday. I came upon this restaurant while searching for a Soul Food Restaurant near me. It is very close to my home which makes it quite accessible! I must report that customer service was excellent! Due to Covid/19, no in house dining was allowed! This day, we ordered fried chicken and oxtails. For my sides, I chose collard greens and yams . My wife had oxtails on rice with Mac and cheese and string beans as a side. The portions were modest to say the least! I received one keg and one thigh for approximately nine dollars ! This was More expensive than some other restaurants offering the sane type of goods. The taste of the food was good but wasn't excellent! I've been here multiple time by far the best soul food in town. Favorite day to come is Saturday their ribs and collar greens are very good! My son loves their fish, Mac and cheese and chicken wings, and he's quite the picky eater. I really enjoyed my meal at Gigi's, and I will go back next time in I'm in the area. Soul food so there will be a lot of soul. Be ready for it. All of the people that work there seem to be very very nice, lots of little samples to try of their sides to make sure you were happy. Now I am a little bias with the name of the restaurant because that is the name my grandson calls me. So you know I had to head on over there. From the smiles, comic laughter and just good old fashion good customer service to the smoky greens, sweet potatoes and a hint of spice green beans, I fell in love. I felt like I was at home when I walked in to the time I got home to eat my meal. It is a nice quaint spot in an old shopping center location. I like it, but even the staff when recommending collards or cabbage he said collards were too spicy for him. The corn bread is just jiffy(on the sweet side for those that don't know), but again I love jiffy. It's just not homemade if that's what you're looking for. DO NOT GO! I got the oxtails which wasn't that bad. But the dressing was DRY. The broccoli cheese and rice casserole was extra extra dry. The rice was stuck together. The gravy was so dark and dry that it was clumpy and dried up by the time we got home. I I literally threw the whole plate in the trash and forgot to take a picture. I spent $20 and I'm pissed. This is real soul food y'all. My mouth started watering when I walked in the door. We ordered the 10pc family meal w/chicken, collards and yams on Thursday and it was so good we came back Friday to order the fried fish, Mac, lima beans and yams. Everything was good. The fish was so piping hot the young lady at the front desk brought it to my car with an oven mit & secured it in the trunk. (They also had my sides in a sealed plastic bag so I didn't have to worry about anything spilling in my car). Speaking of, the customer service is impeccable. They are patient while ordering and I got a call from Ms. GiGi to let me know that an item I ordered wasn't available at the time(sweet potato pies) but that she'd keep me posted. I got a call from her later with an updated ETA. This type of customer service is almost nonexistent nowadays. Whenever I travel OTP I use Yelp to look for vegetarian and vegan options. I noticed right away that the yelp description said no meat in the veggies. It also just happened that we were visiting a business in the same shopping center. We had: biscuit (scrumptious), cornbread muffins (sweet yellow corn and delicious), limas, black eyed peas, cabbage, collards, and scalloped potatoes. Everything was 5 star for me except the potatoes. They were tasty but they really needed about 20 more minutes in the oven to be completely done. The seasoning and salt levels were perfect. Very casual ambiance with food We had ribs, Jerk chicken, and a vegetable plate including rice, cabbage, Lima's. All the plates came with a biscuit or corn bread. If you want good down home cooking, GiGi's is the place to go! I've never been here for lunch, but their breakfast is great and always a treat when I'm craving some Southern comfort foods. Their prices are very reasonable for the large amount of food you get, the restaurant is clean, and the staff is friendly and welcoming. The decor may be a little outdated, but that's not why you come to GiGi's and certainly doesn't stop this place from having plenty of regulars.
