I had my windows replaced in September, 2020. I have been more than pleased with Gilkey. After 5 years my windows are still perfect. No sweating or condensation at all. When they were inspected by my county, the inspector asked where I got them and said they were the best quality windows compared to Anderson and Pella. That says it all. Since they are fiberglass they will not have to be replaced in 20 years. read more

I had Steve provide a quote for me. I told him that I was going into surgery and I couldn't commit to anything until after. So I asked if I should wait for the quote or get it done beforehand. He said get it done now so you have it on hand. Don't worry if it goes past the expiration on the quote, he will still honor it as prices aren't going up until after the new year. I finally call back to purchase the windows and Dave comes out to do another quote. He says there's no way they are honoring Steve's quote as it was loo low. I told him I have a signed contract here ready to go. He said it doesn't matter. Steve has been let go and it's past the contract date, so they are just not honoring it, and they wouldn't honor it regardless as it was too low. Dave came out to do another estimate and it was WAY higher this time. They tried to upsell me on triple pane saying it's the only way to go if I want the best. I ended up going with Landmark Exteriors. They were priced much better, had the same quality windows, same warranty and said there absolutely zero reason to get triple pane windows and I would just be wasting my money. Funny enough, Landmark just hired someone from Gilkey to run their entire showroom. So looks like they are having a hard time keeping employees. read more

Today was installation day for my 2 new Bay windows. The window for arrival was 8:30-9:00am. The doorbell rang at 8:25am & Marcin & Adam, the Installation Crew were ready to start. They worked quickly, neatly& were done before expected. My blinds were put back up as were my shade in the porch. I almost died when I read an old review of Jay from Gilkey. This was my situation exactly: "Had Jay from Gilkey out to give an estimate on the windows.  This was the most high pressure sales representative that I've ever saw.  Took 45 minutes talking about himself as how he was an expert on windows, talked about how much it cost to have his books published and then after some discussion about the windows (Maybe 30 minutes)..." Yes, he even told me that he has some books published. He also said that most people have no idea what they are doing when purchasing windows. Very rude, condescending, and definitely makes the company look bad. I own several properties and you better believe I will never use Gilkey Window Company. read more

Thought house was supposed to feel warmer in winter and cooler in summer. In winter, noticed more drafts than with older windows. maybe the installers forgot some insulation-don't know. But for expensive windows, they dont perform as advertised. read more

Just had a custom built, much needed, replacement patio door installed. It took 4 men to carry it. It was the coldest day of the season so far, 19 degrees. The door passed the test. The three, sometimes four-man crew did all they could to complete the installation as quickly as possible. About 4 hours total time. Everything looks great upon completion. They had to replace some rotten wood from years of rain damage from the previous poor quality door installed by the builder, whose name I won't mention here. We went with the same style door; a swing out style. Our new one has all the bells and whistles; triple pane with the highest level of protection and performance. The last one really took a beating from the morning sun and summer heat. We have high expectations for the new one but it looks and feels like it's up to the task. Overall we're very pleased with the quality of door and installation. The crew were fabulous and very clean and neat down to the smallest caulking detail. We highly recommend them. read more

Still pretty happy with my decision to replace my windows with Gilkey! Peter and the installation crew said they would arrive between 8:30-10am to start. They were here by 8am (I'm never one to complain if a crew wants to start early), and set up, ready to work by 8:45am. By 10:30am, most of the old windows had been removed and the new frames were installed. The entire installation took about 5 hours total (4 large windows on a second floor). The crew was quick, efficient, and the finished product looks good to me! I really appreciated how Gilkey laid down/hung tarps in all of the rooms they worked in, made clean up at the end of the day quick and painless. In the future, I would use Gilkey again and recommend them to my friends. read more

We have had Gilkey windows for 20 years. We have always been very happy with our windows. We had an issue and had them come out which turned out to be our fault. There is normally a charge for that. But Kelley and Paul were nice and waived the fee. Awesome customer service . thank you! read more

The reason I decided to go with Gilkey was the lifetime warranty. What sets these window companies apart is the quality of service after the sale. Had an awful experience today with Gilkey. First of all it took three weeks to get someone out, he did address the issues and was a good guy but once done asked for $100 fee. He said after 5 years they charge a $100 trip fee. Calld their service department and Barb could not have been happier or more snide in telling me to pound sand. Buy windows from Gilkey but not doors. We were so happy with the windows we got from them (they were expensive but years after getting them we are still very happy with them) that we made the decision nearly two years ago to buy doors from them. We had contacted a competitor that was cheaper and whose product seemed nice but we thought it would be safer to pay quite a bit more for the peace of mind of going with Gilkey. It was a mistake. We bought 2 doors and we had problems with each one. After 1.5 year of phone calls (not always returned in a timely manner) and of technicians coming to our house with different opinions on what the problem was, we might finally have doors that will keep the cold out. Time will tell as the last one to get "fixed" still doesn't look quite right to me. read more

My parents had an excellent experience with Gilkey replacing their wall-sized patio door so when I decided to replace the windows in my condo, Gilkey was my first call. I was completely impressed from beginning to end of the process. The salesman, Jay, was exceptionally knowledgeable on the topic of windows and spent much of the presentation telling us what we should look for in a window and how their products rated in these areas. This was unlike some of the other companies that quoted for me who spent more time telling me about how the competition wasn't as good. The main things I was looking at was quality, price and who does the install. Their product definitely seemed to be high quality and even qualifies me for discounts from Nicor (if I actually had gas heat it would anyway) - they custom build all of their windows so I didn't need to worry about the fact that all of my windows are very non-standard sizes They were the cheapest of ny quotes, and Gilkey uses their own employees rather than subcontracting out the installation which was definitely something I was looking for. When I decided to go with their quote, Jay came out that evening to finalize the paperwork. The next day the install guy called to set up a time to take final measurements. The sales guy told me it was a 6-8 week lead time, and the install guy told me 7-9. This was fine, and I was expecting my windows to be ready for install in the first week or two of December. Needless to say, I was shocked and very pleased when they called me a week into November to say my windows were ready. I was able to schedule install within a week and on a Saturday! The install guys not only arrived on time, but they were about 5 minutes early! They were extremely professional, and not even a little creepy. I felt totally comfortable being alone with them in my house. They got the entire job (7 very large windows on the second/ third floor) done in about 7 hours, and they look fantastic! Overall I was extremely impressed with Gilkey and would definitely recommend them. They will certainly be the first people I call next time I need new windows! read more

They are Windows. That is all. We had large with crank to open/close the side windows. Shortly after installation, the southern most window would not close flush without almost cranking it to the point of breaking the handle. During the past winter, I needed a blanket to cover my head and neck due to the chill. Gilkey is just a name. The next windows I buy and have installed will be from a different company or done by a handyman. I did call for service shortly after finding the problem. The response, when the man came out, was that is how the window is. But why doesn't the northern side window act that way? Think twice about paying so much for a window and installation from this company. I see one thinks I am trying to be funny. I am dead serious. The living room is hot in the summer and cold in the winter. There is a draft from the window so cold you need a blanket to get warm. We had honeycomb shades installed and they help some. Think about PELLA windows. read more

Talked to Gilkey in July regarding a warranty replacement glass for a window that had a failed seal in our home. They were very friendly at the time and stated it would take about 3 weeks to get the glass and then they would schedule the replacement. First glass showed up to Gilkey broken, so they reordered. Second glass showed up and almost 8 weeks after the initial call the technician comes out to install and they have ordered the wrong window. Now they say it will take another two weeks before the glass will come in and they will then schedule the install. So roughly 11 weeks for a standard size piece of glass I'm sure they can find in an order somewhere to replace their failed product, and that is assuming nothing else goes wrong. I'm sure someone in authority at Gilkey could make this happen ASAP, but I'm not hopeful. read more

Gilkey Window came out to provide an estimate. During the estimate, I was informed that the windows had a lifetime replacement transferrable warranty. As I read the warranty, it did not seem to be as stated. I showed the salesman and asked him where it states what he just stated. Instead of trying to find the answer, he responded with, "I've been doing this 30 years and I know the warranty." When I pressed him how he can say this when the warranty, in my opinion, did not reiterate or back up what he was stating, merely said that it appears Gilkey Windows cannot make me happy. Instead of talking about the product and the warranty, he continued to talk about himself and my dissatisfaction. I finally got fed up with his lack of wanting to clarify the warranty, I told him to get off my property. I then followed up with Gilkey Windows and spoke to the sales manager John, who again reiterated the basic fact that they don't really care about making sure your questions are addressed but are more about selling windows. My fear of this company is simple. If they can't explain or be honest with their warranty, what type of service am I going to experience if I have a problem? I was utterly unimpressed with John, the sales manager, whom you would think wants to solve my issue, even after I asked for a different salesperson to try and work out another estimate. Gilkey's attitude was we really don't care. I guess two people with the same attitude of "take it or leave it" might say a lot about the culture of the company. Most companies would try to resolve whatever the misunderstanding was. Especially if the customer was asking for a different salesperson and still wanted to know more about the company and their products. read more

Just have to say I am perfectly pleased with my 17 new Gilkey windows. I looked at 4 companies and got two quotes. The quotes were within $1000 of each other. Three reasons I chose Gilkey. 1) the window itself seemed much better built and sturdier. 2) the installers (really included a master carpenter as my job was a total gut across the front of the house) work for Gilkey 3) th Gilkey salesman had the most industry knowledge. Yes, the installers did arrive in a truck that said Gilkey. They showed up when they said they would, worked incredibly fast, did an excellent job, and cleaned up very well. My salesman called both days during the install to make sure everything was ok. The windows did take longer than I thought they would - but were well worth the wait. And, the office was responsive and very good about confirming install dates. I already notice how much warmer the living rooms (we have a two flat) are and can't wait to see the heating bill go down. I highly recommend Gilkey. I promise to post if I have any future problems, but right now, we are happy campers! read more

We love our Gilke windows. Did the front of our 2-flat 4 years ago. In the 50's the owner had replaced the two middle front windows with a big picture window on each floor. Very bad job resulted in leaking windows and bowing of the frame. Gilke tore out all the lead wood, and completely rebuilt the front windows on both floors back to the original 4 in front and 2 on each side. I love these windows. The front rooms are so insulated we noticed the very first day. They operate beautifully and so easy to clean. Our salesman was not pushy at all, the workers were incredibly fast. The indoor molding and sills are very nice oak. All in all perfect. We had one minor issue my husband noticed in the first 2 months and they came right out and repaired at no cost. About 2 months ago, A Gilkey salesmen (Armando) made a presentation to our 10- unit bldg. He touted their professionalism and the fact that he had been there 20+ years. He said they also would do most of the casement installing from the inside of each unit. Based on all that along with the fact that we liked the product, We selected Gilkey as our choice should unit owners want to replace their windows. I chose to replace all 17 of mine. Armando came back again, did initial measurements, took some photos, took my deposit and then signed a contact stating other guys would be out for a final measuring. A week later two guys did just that. 3 weeks go by and i get a call from Gilkey stating they can't do my install due to lack of access on either side of my bldg. Wouldn't they have known that from one of the 3 times they were at my place? They also lied saying they left me 3 voicemails (never received even a phone call let alone a message). Meanwhile another window company was chosen by another unit owner and they don't seem to have any issue with installing. Why can't Gilkey do what every other company does and lower a scaffold from the roof to caulk and make any adjustments? It's the city of Chicago for cryin out loud! They did credit my deposit (after holding nearly $7k for 3 weeks). I also left repeated messages for a return call and after no one responded to me, I called the Owner. I then left a message for the owner of Gilkey Windows who called back 24 hrs later and left a message (while I was on an airplane). He reiterated the same excuse and said my contract wasn't approved and signed by installation, just their Salesman, so not a fully executed agreement. I have never experienced such a complete reversal of good business practices and behavior. They turned out to be completely unprofessional. And I don't appreciate being lied too. I would NEVER recommend Gilkey Windows to anyone! What a waste of 3 months of not only mine but our condo association's time. read more

I really thought the product was a good product, but the salesman not wanting to answer questions and mad because he didn't get an instant sale and not following up on what he said he was going to do, shows the professionalism of the company, so I would beware of the company and any other support they would supply for standing behind their product. We had four front windows installed be Gilkey and after many many house calls to resolve the problem they are still frosted inside. The wind chill factor is 21 below zero, but my Gilkey windows are absolutely fantastic with no condensation whatsoever. If you live in a cold climate like the windy city, these are the best windows ever! I cannot rave enough about this company and these windows. They are the best!!! read more

We had our Gilkey windows installed 9 years ago, we also had them install vinyl siding. Our heating bills were literally half of what they were with the old windows. We are still happy with our purchase. I would recommend sliders and /or double hung over casement windows. We have both , and the locks on the casement windows have been somewhat difficult to operate. Otherwise both have been just great . read more

Needed a replacement for our kitchen ceiling to floor window. Called several companies based on recommendations. The current window is designed so that it can't be opened so no cross breeze. The majority of the quotes were for a 5 panel bow window with crank outs....but the frame for each panel would reduce the glass size, which cuts down on the light coming in. Gilkey worked with us to custom make a 4 panel. All crank out with reduced total frame. The window took 6 weeks to fabricate. As soon as Gilkey received it, they called to arrange installation. Within 1 week, two installers were at our door. I was leery that 2 guys would take more than 1 day to install because the window was shorter than the opening (which we expected) so the outside/inside had to be framed in, sided, dry walled, taped, etc. By 5:00, the guys were packing up after completing the job. My hubby (who was in construction) checked everything out. He's really picky! He was REALLY happy with the job these guys did. Granted, Gilkey was higher than average, but you get what you pay for and we are thrilled!!! read more

had them out last year for a leaky window, they tell me the window is not leaking, but here we are with rain and its dripping from the top of the window again. the woman in the office not real friendly, have had to have many repairs for cracked seals, they charge 95.00 to come out to see what the problem is. would not use again read more
