So in November 2022, I was looking to redo my vegetable garden that had a rock border. I'm a firm believer of getting a few bids. I contacted a few masons and only Brad Gill of Gills Hardscape came out for the bid. He was very knowledgeable and got me the bid quickly. I was impressed. I didn't proceed with the work at that time. In May of 2023, I decided to call Brad and only him to get him to bid replacing my backyard areas that were concrete that would flood when it rained. Bad drainage when they built the house. The bid came back, I added the vegetable garden redo so it could be done at the same time. I'm writing this review to warn everyone about the thief (Brad Gill) that stole my blueprints/physical design plans that I paid $1400 for through another company. This review is long overdue! Brad came to my house on 12/7/18 to provide an estimate to remodel my backyard. I informed Brad that I recently hired a landscape designer to measure and recommend the most optimal layout, material and design of my backyard yard based on all of my wishlist items (again, I paid $1400 for the designs plans). The design was extensive, including precise measurements, exact materials, pictures of the various features, color palette and plans to completely gut my backyard, construct a built-in-BBQ, firepit, waterwall, pergola, new block wall, gates, travertine pavers, "zen area" with hammock, lighting, electrical work (including outdoor speakers and TV) and new landscape. I showed Brad the plans, after we discussed everything for about 30 minutes, he asked if he could borrow them so he could provide a more accurate estimate based on the measurements and material that I selected in my design. At first, I was very hesitant to give him my plans, especially since I paid so much money for them. However, he reassured me and said that he would would give them back to me as soon as he finished the estimates and afterall, what did he have to gain by keeping them? He came highly recommended on Nextdoor (and the Yelp reviews were also great). He then reassured me again and said that it was very hard to quote me an exact estimate without having the plans next to him while he put everything together. He also made a comment and said, "If I don't bring them back, you can leave me a horrible review and I don't want that because it could interfere with potential business." He came across very trustworthy and charismatic and since I had two copies of the plans (with my address and name on them) it made me feel a little more comfortable so I agreed to let him borrow one of my copies. Keep in mind, these plans are 34" x 24" so it's not like I could just scan them from my computer and email it to him. After we discussed timeline, Brad said that he would send me the estimates the following week and that point, he would return the design plans and we can discuss next steps. I agreed and waited his response. Looking back at the situation, I should have listened to my gut because he never returned my design plans. On 12/12/18, I received an email from Scott Gill with the estimates. However, the estimates only included the block wall. I replied back on the same day, asking about the rest of the items that were included in the design plans (see attached screenshot of our email). Unfortunately I did not receive a response back. I thought my email might have got stuck in SPAM so after 2 days (12/14/18), I called back (562) 276-8910 but I received a voicemail so I left a message. This was on a Friday, so I waited again until the following Tuesday (12/18/18) and when I did not hear back from them again, I called back and left another message. I called again on 12/21/18 and left a message for a 3rd and final time indicating that if I don't hear back from them, I will assume that they kept my plans and have no intentions of returning them. I waited again until after the holidays and at this point I realized that I was never getting my design plans back. I figured they stole the plans and tried to pass them off as their own work to impress potential customers. As you can see from this review, I'm extremely detailed and I documented every step of this process and was fully planning on making a review a long time ago but I put it on the back-burner because it was not a high priority at the time. I continued my search with other contractors, ultimately decided to move forward with another company and finished all of the work on my backyard. Fast forward nearly 2 years later, I moved to a new house and was looking for additional work and Gill Hardscape popped up again. I document all of my interactions with my contractors via OneNote and when I saw their name, it brought back all kinds of bad memories and got my blood boiling. I stopped my search, reviewed my previous notes on Gill Hardscape from December of 2018 and I had to write this review to warn other people about their dishonesty. I'm completely surprised that they have such good reviews, but I had to share my experience to potential/future customers. Throughout the project, Brad & Scott were very accommodating to any changes to the plan and it was clear they want to ensure I was satisfied. I provided them with a design that they matched perfectly. They even did additional finishing work to create a better end-result, though they did not charge me any extra for it. Most of the work was completed in the first week and some of the detailed work carried through the second week. We were amazed at the speed, neatness and care of Brad's workers. The entire property was cleared of vegetation, tree roots, old watering and yard lighting systems and the front walk and 3-car driveway removed. Then, with speed and skill, his stone workers replaced the entire driveway, back patio and front porch with paving blocks. The also built low retaining walls around the front of the slightly sloping property. This timely completion of work allowed the landscaper to then access the site for his work with plants. I built my home in 2005 and discovered Gill Hardscape at a home and garden show. They were incredibly helpful and followed my design exactly. They came out again in 2008 and added more pavers and lawn borders. You couldn't tell where the new and old pavers joined. My soil is clay which can cause lots of settling and movement but I'm happy to say after 8 years, all the work they did looks like the day they finished it. I was so pleased when I found out they could continue on and install another 500 square feet of pavers. Brad gave us a fair bid and their work is first class. They did our back yard patio. He finally finished my patio days before our graduation party. I am unhappy with the quality , the concrete is blotchy. It's it continues to get worse . Called him many times . Finally he answered his phone , he said oh it's just water trapped and it can be taken care of with an acid wash , he never did it . I got tired of calling . He left a tool here and never came to retrieve it, I guess it wasn't important. I'm very grateful that I didn't have him do our driveway. read more

We had a great experience with Brad, Scott and their team. Our project was about 4 weeks long and included removing a brick patio and replacing it with pavers; removing some random grass patches and installing pavers; hooking up a fire pit; replacing DG with new DG and flagstone; and all the other incidentals you can imagine with a hardscaping project of this nature (lighting, steps, drainage, etc.). Brad or Scott were out here every day to check in and to make sure his guys were doing what we wanted. They even asked us personally on a few occasions about certain details, which was appreciated. When you do any sort of construction on your house, it's always a bit disruptive, noisy and inconvenient, but everyone involved couldn't have been nicer and more accommodating. Once we get to stage two (probably next summer or the summer thereafter) we'll surely call on Gill Hardscape! read more

For the first summer in 12 years of living in our house, we LOVE our backyard! Gill Hardscape mid-spring 2018 after getting a couple of other bids to remodel an existing Rossmoor original pool and backyard. Brad (Gill Hardscape) helped us formalize a plan and begin the process. Once we had a layout in mind, we contracted Gill Hardscape & Harbour Pools (recommended by Brad Gill) to start work around Sept. Kyle (Harbour Pools) and Brad (Gill Hardscape) estimated 3 mos to complete the job. They worked together and our project was completed on time and within budget.
