I made an appointment because my garage door wouldn't open. I scheduled an appointment for the next day. They gave me a noon-2 window for the arrival time. Around 12:30 the tech called and said the job he was on was taking longer then expected and he thought he would arrive closer to 2, but would text when he was on the way. I recieved the text about 30 minutes later. He arrived before 2. When they got to my house, I walked them through the problems I thought I was having. Aryeh verified that things looked good and asked me to try the opener. The door opened. I felt a bit dumb. He reassured me that things like this can happen. He did recommend doing a service on the system. I had them do it because I have no idea how long it has been since any mainenace had been completed. He also programmed two new opners for me. I requested a same-day consultation for a bent and out of track steel garage door and Michael came in a couple hours, within the schedule window. Our 40-year old wooden garage door finally stopped working and I called Gil's Garage Door & Gate Services since they did a good job of repairing it last time when we had an issue. Frank was the technician assigned to us. He let us know that the garage door was too old to be repaired and recommended options for a new modern steel door that is heavy duty but light, with windows on one side, and options to operate remotely with a phone app. Once we made the selection, he took measurements, made plans to custom order and install the new door. He went above and beyond, and was able to get us the custom door from the manufacturer a few days earlier than expected. He communicated clearly and regularly via phone calls and texts about installation timeline and what to expect before, during and after installation. On the day of the installation, he continued to update me throughout the day, and spent over six hours on the project with his colleague James. They did an excellent job on the carpentry work to outfit the new garage door to our old door frame so it's smooth and flush. After the installation, Frank patiently explained how to operate the new door manually and via a remote or phone app, and James swept up the debris that were inside the garage and on the driveway. When a torsion spring on our garage door broke earlier this week we called a few of the very well known companies in our area to try and schedule estimates and find out what our repair options were. We knew we wanted both springs replaced which almost everyone recommends, but we also wanted to see if anyone was offering higher cycle (longer lasting) springs as an option. We also had 2 cars parked in the garage and wanted to be able to get them out before the repair work was started. Besides Gil's, every other company only allows you to talk with a scheduler. They were not well informed on the specifics of the repair and could not answer any of our questions. All of them want you to schedule a repair appointment ($) and then talk to the tech when they're already at your home. When we called Gil's we were offered the opportunity to talk with Ara to discuss the repair, before scheduling. He answered all of our questions, talked about what other repairs may be needed and told us what options were available in different spring qualities. Ara arrived the next day to do the work. He was on time, and sent a text before arriving as promised. Everything was done the way we had discussed. Since the door is 30+ years old and we were looking to maximize its longevity he recommended also replacing the bearing plates and door rollers at the same time. On his first visit, he opened the door manually and took the spring measurements. Within 1 hr he was back with the custom high cycle spring and the bearing plates ready to install. Avoid like the plague. I may just be one of the unlucky ones, but you can tell a lot about a business not only by the quality of their work, but how they follow up to address (or not address) their mistakes. Two years ago, I hired Gil's to install a brand new gate to the side of my house, around $8000. This was not a small investment for me. Things started off well enough when one of his reps came to meet me. After I gave them the job, things started to go downhill. One of their workers, Isaac, ghosted me for an appointment. I took the afternoon off work to plan for the appointment, and he simply never showed up -- no text, nothing. Then in the winter of 2023, the gate started dripping black paint all over my brand new pavers during the rainy season. I contacted Gil to let him know, and he told me the powder coat machine was broken when the gate was sent to be finished. To their credit, they did send it back to be re-coated. However, the job was still sub-par, and the streaks continued even after I got it back and re-stained my pavers, albeit to a lesser extent. I reached out again to have this addressed. The last response to me on June 27, 2023 was that his assistant was "on an extended family vacation we will reach out when he gets back." That's the last I heard from him. This process had been so exhausting from start to finish that I just told myself I would suck it up and deal with it since I clearly couldn't depend on the company. Fast forward to today and I notice that a year later, the new wood is starting to crack on the gate. I don't know how companies treat their customers like this. I'm glad other customers had positive experiences, but I am never recommending this company to anyone, ever. And I will say if you do choose to go with them, prepare to have a back-up plan if/when things go south. read more
