Clean, which is appreciated, but missing the integral parts of an effective nail salon. Just got a pedicure, wasn't offered any type of disposable sandal and no dryers for your nails. Not sure if it's an off-day, but it's 60 some degrees outside; nail polish needs dryer. read more

Went there last minute before my flight home, Gina answered and quickly got me in as I had 3 broken acrylic nails. She took her time and was SO sweet and SO nice!!! Absolutely terrible. I made an appointment for 4:30 one day and told them I had to leave at 5. They had one simple task: remove my no chip manicure and they could not even do that properly. They soaked my nails for 10 minutes, then tried to force the rest of the polish off. My nails are ruined and for the price they made me pay it is not ok. read more

My no chip mani turned out well, besides the one hair that got caught under/in the paint that was applied to a nail. My pedicure came out ok, the white lines on my french pedicure didn't come out as good as others I have had. Both paint jobs lasted as long as they should have. The shop itself was satisfactorily clean and is in a convenient location. However, the way the workers inside acted and made me feel like I was burden to be there and get services done. The lady who did my nails started a conversation with the lady doing my toes gossiping about clients earlier in the day and how much each client had tipped. This made me incredibly uncomfortable and awkward, and don't think such things should be openly talked about in front of other clients. The overall experience was not fun or relaxing, nor was the outcome of the services the best I ever had. Because of the awkward experience, I decided to try other nail places in Chicago. read more

My manager gave me his gift certificate so I could try this nail place. Although I did not make an appointment they were able to take me in. The experience was okay, It can be better. They do not massage your feet or hands just a quick brush. I did not feel rejuvenated after my nails were done. I had a pedi and no chip mani done. I did like my nail colors they have a huge selection of different colors. Will I be back ? Maybe if I am in a hurry and need something to get done right away since I work around the corner. read more

Was excited to try this place based on the reviews. I booked pedicures for myself and a couple of friends, confirmed the time, and they didn't honor the reservation. Two of us had to wait 20 mins past the reservation time. The others had to wait an hour and 15 mins past the reservation time before they got started. This newest location of Nailcessity opened a few weeks ago near Dunkin' Donuts in the Pedway. The other location, in the Prudential Plaza, has been going strong for quite a few years so perhaps the owners thought it was time to expand their operation to serve another side of the Pedway population. For the month of August, Nailcessity (this location) is offering 20% off of all services. I went in last Friday for a mani. The selection of polishes is pretty good, even for the regular, non-gel variety of mani pedis. I walked out with a $12 manicure. The service was friendly, as the nail technician actually listened when I told her I wanted to push down my cuticles and not cut them so aggressively as I am prone to peeling and hangnails. I wish that cuticle oil had been applied to soften my nails, but will give the place a pass as they are still getting set up. The hand dryers are also on order, so I ended up holding my nails up to two tiny oscillating fans. The polish also peeled off quite quickly. I'm not sure whether this is because a top coat was not applied, or because I put my nails through their paces, doing chores over the weekend and volunteering at an art fest. Again, I will give this salon the benefit of the doubt. For a quick manicure in a pinch I will come back. read more

I had a pedi/mani with Jenna today and she was wonderful ($35 for both on Mon + Tues). Not only does she have a good vibe, but also gives you the pampering you need. She's detailed in her procedure and gives great foot/hand massages. I'm surprised with the high starred reviews, which led me to the salon in the first place. I had an older woman that did my mani/pedi and I was nervous every time she took the cuticle cutter to my fingers and toes. It seemed like she was having a hard time handling them, and a few times she nicked too close to my skin. I literally sat there and prayed she didn't draw blood. I had to ask her to re-file a few of my nails because they were not even, and it took her a pretty long time to finish both sets. She also did smudge my nail with her finger in the process of my mani, and just put an additional layer of paint on the one nail-which makes that one nail different in color and there is now an indent on my nail from her just trying to cover up with paint. Not the most professional nail service I've received. The workers themselves were nice, but with a wide choice and availability of nail salons in the city, I will definitely spend my money elsewhere next time. read more

If I could give this place a negative 100, I would. Oh, wait, I just did. Absolutely the worst manicure I've ever had. I grew up in the salon business as my mom was a salon owner and awarded stylist. I don't think this place has been cleaned since it opened. They use the same files and cuticle clippers in everybody. They might have sterilization bags but the instruments are not sterile. There are indication marks on the bags to show its sterilized. They are not and everyone should question their practices. I've never seen a dirtier place. I'm not sure how they received almost 5 stars which is what lead me there. I was on a lunch break and had limited time and knew I should have just left. Beyond all of any of my complaints is that this place is FILTHY! Even the scrub brush at the sink is shared universally. I would never go back let alone recommend this hole! read more

I usually go to the other Nailcessity location since they do great work, but decided to give this one a try. I got a no chip and two nails chipped within 3 days, and the 3rd nail chipped within 5 days. I went later in the day about an hour before close and the nail technician rushed through the job so quickly. There were parts of my nails on the side that were completely bare, and he spent no more than 2 seconds on each cuticle to the point it didn't even look like I got a manicure. It's now day 9 and my nails started completely peeling off so I gave the polish a tug and most of them came off in one or two pulls. They allow you to come back in if a nail chips before 14 days, but like most people, I'm busy and expect that a $45 expensive no chip will last. I'm only giving it 2 stars because they have a lot of polish choices. read more
