My boyfriend and I have been to Ginger many times, and as self proclaimed "foodies", have always enjoyed the food and service. This last Friday night however, was impressive enough to "write a Yelp"... :) Service is always excellent at Ginger, and it seems the same core group of people/management have always been there, at least since we've been going, and that says a lot. The girl who waited on us Friday was outstanding, not sure of her name but she was blonde, pretty, and just gave above and beyond service. At one print, she asked my boyfriend; "another drink?" And he said "yes, please." She replied; "coming up." An exchange we really liked because it was old fashioned, confident, and done without hesitation. Our food was out of this world. It truly was art. I was initially semi disappointed because my usual filet mignon meal was not on the menu, it had changed slightly. It was replaced with what my boyfriend ultimately ordered, the filet mignon with crispy onions, broccolini, wasabi butter, and sweet potato and parsnip purée. He subbed out the sweet potato for some sort of peanut potatoes. He loved the parsnip purée "tastes like Christmas", he says. I didn't care for it but I'm not a purée kind of girl, ha. The filet was cooked perfectly - medium- which a lot of places seem to have trouble with. Wasabi butter was the absolute kicker..I want to try and make that at home. Peanut potatoes were like velvet. I ordered "mee krob"....ground pork, chicken, and shrimp (I ordered without shrimp), stir fried with peppers and jalapeños, pad Thai style, with rice noodles and definitely spicy. One of the best things I've ever eaten. We also both had their take on the Caesar salad. It was presented sort of "deconstructed"....romaine lettuce, a spicy Caesar dressing, cheese crisps and fried wontons. Spicy and awesome. We are obsessed with Caesar salads and this one redid a classic and should be a classic in its own right. Drinks from the bar were good, food and service excellent. Maybe it was 'cus going in I knew it'd be my last meal in Alaska before flying home, or maybe legitimately the food was that good, but this might've been my best meal in Alaksa. And I had some really great meals here... The service is really amazing here --- our server knew the dishes inside and out, and gave some great recommendations not just based on what he knew, but also from asking us questions. When my friend spilled his drink (sorry buddy), a couple of servers immediately came over to assist. Apps: the tuna tartare tower w/ avocado, and the chicken lettuce wraps. The wraps were solid, but the tuna was terrific. Dinner: scallop mac and cheese was terrific. My friend got the halibut, and he said it might've been the best he's had (and he's lived in Alaska for eight years). Got the chocolate bread pudding with salted caramel ice cream for dinner. Fantastic. It's Asian fusion, but most of our dishes weren't really "asian". But damn that was an incredible meal! read more

A very high standard of food quality and presentation here, I guess when you combine the incredibly fresh bounty of Alaskan seafood with an innovative Asian fusion chef good things can happen. Excellent, novel and subtle spicing makes for very good and well prepared dishes. Service was able, attentive and informal. I think this restaurant stands out due to the creative menu. There is a lot of variety with many healthy options. There are a decent number of vegetarian and gluten free options as well. I had an ahi tuna tower followed by the salmon special and seared scallop mac & cheese. Everything was cooked and prepared to perfection and yummy. Holy shit the scallop mac and cheese is so much food... good for at least 3 meals, I'd say. Wish the flavor of the truffle oil was drawn out more, since that was the reason why I ordered the dish. Sadly, despite the whole dish being incredibly greasy, the flavor was still lacking. Scallops were huge, and their texture was decent. Maybe a little tough; I prefer them more tender and juicy. The baked crust on the pasta was perfect. I really loved the banana lemongrass soup! It was on the more unique side of restaurant food I've in Alaska. During a week in Anchorage, this place became my favorite. It took a while to get there, however. The first visit I had a beer and then a house vodka soda. I tried an appetizer, which was delicious. I really appreciated the beautiful decor and interior design of what is really a gorgeous restaurant and bar. The servers here are very friendly, and knowledgeable. I didn't appreciate that during my first visit, but later, when I visited another restaurant nearby, Pangea, I complimented them on their cocktails and how creative they were. "You need to visit Ginger", was what I was told. Now *that* was a recommendation since it is from a theoretically competing place. So I had the bartender at Ginger make me a walnut whiskey cocktail, and a tarragon infused vodka drink, and a few other absolutely delicious "bartender's choice" drinks. The more I tasted the less I remember about the details, but that made me a five-star fan. Really an amazing place to explore the art and creativity of cocktails, and the food that they create here. I really like coming to Ginger and today I found out that I really like coming to Ginger for lunch. Our server was fantastic, the tea selection stellar ($3.50, but from indigo) , and food was good. I ordered the Beef Penang Curry, $13, and thought it was just okay but still something I hadn't had. Everything I'd had before had been great so I found Ginger's achilles heel. The meal consisted of beef with veggies in red curry, jasmine rice in the middle, and topped with fresh bean sprouts and jullienned carrots onions and cucumber. I like the attempt but the beef was too dry, the curry too lemon grassy, the fresh topping too much, and the dish used was too shallow making it was hard to use the spoon to scoop out food that I had to scrape it up with a fork. Dining companion ordered the scallop mac and cheese ($19) and now he is asleep at his desk; It is heavy but it is also wonderful. Our server, Andrew, was such a treat too. Knew the menu, attentive though not overbearing, and was very pleasant to chat with. Did you know you have to steep the bossonova tea for 2 minutes and the coconut cream white tea for 7? You do now. Being vegetarians, we did not expect a ton of things to choose from; in an Alaskan restaurant. But their lunch menu surprised us with a lot of veggie options that sounded yummy and a must try. We had the banana lemon grass soup [the waiter was very accomodative to do this with no crab for us], the strawberry chilly salad, the tofu burger and the vegan curry !!! So a friend from work and I went to Ginger on a Friday night. We arrived around 7:30 and we were able to go straight to a table on the bar side. The ambiance was cool and classy. It seemed like all the lights were at the bar and that was how the restaurant was lit up. There were battery powered candle lights at each table which I'll admit was a bit cheesy but I can appreciate the romance attempt. As soon as we sat down, the waitress, or maybe water lady, came with glasses of water then asked if we wanted drinks. I got the Perfect Peach which I loved! There was even a surprise peach gummy at the finish of the drink! Mmm! We then ordered off the bar menu and shared each of the plates. We got the Kalua Pork Sliders (YUM!). The Mu Shu Tacos (Siracha lime sour cream, 'nuff said), the Mini Mac n' cheese (has jalapeño!) and last but not least, the Mongolian beef nachos (to die for roasted corn and black bean salsa on top!). Everything we are was delicious, well made, and cleaned off the plates! The waitress checked back with us frequently and was extremely nice! She seemed to know the menu from tasting everything herself at least once before. Same with the drinks, she was well versed in the majority of the drink menu. We stayed from around 7:30pm til 10:30pm and we were not once pressured to leave. It was super comfortable and welcoming. It was expensive, 3 drinks and half the appetizers was around $50. On our last night in Anchorage we wanted to wrap our vacation up with a nice meal. I noticed ginger across the street from the shopping mall as we'd walked up and down 5th Av numerous times over two days time. I did a yelp and read the reviews. Sounded enticing so I called at 4pm and make a reservation for party of seven at 6:30pm same day. We arrived and were seated immediately. Our server came over soon after. Took our drinks orders. He made some entree suggestions. He was quite attentive. Starters, soups and salads promptly arrived as did our entrees. Hubby's rib eye steak was grilled perfectly to order. My seafood salmon special entree was $40 but worth it. A nice salmon filet with scallops, clams and mussels in the shell over creamy sauce pasta. Hubby and I shared our entrees. The only con was coffee and the wait to order dessert. We got the dessert menu but there was a long lapse before the server came back for our orders. The coffee was lukewarm. Ginger is a delightful restaurant that offers fare appropriate Pan - Pacific cuisine. It's located near the main tourist 'hub' of Anchorage but the atmosphere is surprisingly zen and comfortable. The various dishes are prepared simply and well. My wingman enjoyed the Panang curry with beef tips while I opted for the tofu and shrimp pad thai. One of my top favorites in Anchorage! My friend from high school wanted us to eat dinner here and so we did. I made the reservation online and had no problems getting seated. The inside is pretty contemporary down to the dish ware when we noticed how different the forks are. Once seated, we were attended by our waitress who served us waters and a combo of seaweed and sesame seed crackers. The combo has a great salty and sweet combination. After reading many reviews on Yelp, I had my heart set on trying the famed scallops mac and cheese. OH MY GOSH! One of the best things I have ever eaten! WHY!? First, the cheese combination is heavenly. I love that the cavatappi pasta was this swirly pasta that held all this cheese and flavor. The scallops paired great with everything. Oh and they used truffle oil! How else could this dish not be oh so heavenly. I finished my meal with a green tea creme brûlée. A nice twist to a fairly common dessert. I also ordered a strawberry cosmo. The drink reminded me of a jolly rancher and was definitely strong. The service was top notch. I especially liked that items off the bar menu can be ordered even though we weren't in the bar. Our waitress was very prompt throughout the whole service and made great suggestions for everyone. This place acts like a 5 star restaurant, and should be one, but the dinners we had didn't measure up. I had the Black Bean Chicken and it was okay but not great. The potstickers that came with it were below average. The chicken itself was a thigh on the bone and pretty average. My wife had the Tiger Shrimp Noodle Soup and it was decidedly below average. I stopped by Ginger to grab dinner on my last night at Anchorage. I'm giving this place 5 stars on the food alone! It was that good. I got the scallops mac and cheese and it was by far the best mac and cheese I've ever had. HUGE scallops on top. The truffle oil gave it a lot of flavor. My favorite part was the pine nut crust baked on top. It gave the dish a nice crispy texture and just made everything more delectable. My colleague got the Mee Krob, which looked like another star dish. Unfortunately, I didn't have room to try some because I gobbled down the mac and cheese so fast. It's too bad I have to come all the way back to Anchorage to get more of their food. But I'll definitely be back again next time I'm in town. read more

The drinks were good, The atmosphere was good, The food was good, Service was decent... So yeah that's 3.5 stars in my book. Yes, steak was totally ironic for an "Asian" restaurant but delicious with blue cheese butter. The best thing about this place was the cocktails! We ordered drinks with the fried risotto balls and they arrived promptly even though they were quite busy. I had a pork chop over penne, and my wife had mee crob, a Phad Thai like dish that we saw another couple enjoying as we walked in. The server kept checking back in offering up other drinks for us while we enjoyed the risotto balls. The entree arrived shortly thereafter and they were hot and cooked perfectly. However, the 'Insomniac' has quickly become one of my favorite cocktails for when I plan on carrying myself late into the night. Our bus driver recommended this place to us. We were hesitant because we weren't really wanting Asian fusion but we were so glad we came! The food was amazing! Decent prices and big portions! The staff were all very friendly. The restaurant was nice and clean! I got the peanut noodle special with tofu and it was delicious. So yummy! The sauce was amazing... I think it had coconut milk in it. My uncle got the same meal but with chicken and he really liked it. My dad got the cheeseburger and really liked it as well. We ordered 3 appetizers. The pomme frites were some very well seasoned, well cooked French fries with a very good wasabi mayo dip. We also got the spicy tuna tower, which had a perfectly balanced soy sauce reduction, and a lot of tuna for the price, I was impressed. We then got the pork satay which was a great "meat on a stick". For our entrees we both ordered the maple duck breast with these little sweet yam bread balls. They were crazy good!! Drinks were spot on but obviously where most of the money went to. Strawberry Cosmo and pomegranate champagne drinks sufficed. Desserts were amazing! It was our anniversary so they added a chocolate plaque to my dessert that simply stated "happy anniversary". I ordered the chocolate decadence which was a sweet and rich cake and my husband got the chocolate lava cake. Overall great food but the seating needs some reckoning.
