I've been in Alaska two weeks. I did not come to Alaska for the food and it's a magnificent place, but I found the food to be highly elevated in price with little value. However, this place at every turn has balance in the menu, atmosphere and creativity of all the dishes we had. This is a must stop. The bok choy, along with pork belly and scallops combined perfect texture with wonderful caramelization the undertones of ingredients were fantastic. The beer and wine list were outstanding. The atmosphere was perfect. I cannot give this establishment enough praise So creative and the price point was completely worth it. Unlike most every other restaurant, I visited over a two week. I hate to say this, but the Rustic Goat now is a shadow of its former self. Originally a pub style restaurant with great food and affordable drinks, recent management has increased prices substantially and drastically decreased portions. $28 for a burger is insane. There is no way someone could look another adult in the eye, explain that price, and be taken seriously. Service is too slow for how expensive everything is, but friendly enough. The ambiance is still nice enough with the Mountain View but again, the overall experience is overpriced and lacks its former character and soul. read more

Nestled in a neighborhood (unlike most Anchorage restaurants), it has a modern-rustic decor, great menu, diverse beverage list, good service, outdoor seating, and it's close to home. A delicious first meal in anchorage, Alaska. I got off my plane and was immediately taken here by my local friends, and I was extremely happy with their choice. we got loaded nachos as an appetizer, and then I ordered the salmon and dumpling entrée. The loaded nachos were very satisfying and full of delicious meat and sauces. The chips were also very crispy even under all that sauce. I really love my salmon and dumpling dish though because it was the perfect combination of protein and satisfying carbs. this is probably the most elevated salmon and dumpling type dish I've ever had. We went here for a small birthday dinner and couldn't have been more pleased. Our server Carly (hope the spelling is correct) was prompt, attentive, and super friendly. The restaurant has a pleasant aesthetic and a cozy feel. We sat upstairs where it was pretty quiet right around opening time. The food was all delicious and super flavorful. I ordered the blistered shishito peppers and the soup on the special menu. The shishito peppers were seasoned perfectly to bring out their flavor with a hint of spice. I didn't know if I would like the soup, but I am so glad I tried it. It was so savory and creamy with some fresh basil as a functional garnish to the dish. The arugula salad is always a favorite. Peppery arugula mixed with thinly sliced red and green apples, combined with maple pecans and some stilton cheese. The biggest surprise for me was the patty melt on Rye. It was sooooo good. I had the other members of the table try it and before they could finish chewing had said, "wow, that's good!" The other members of the table ordered scallops and pork belly which they shared with each other, stating it was also delicious and prepared very well. We went for dinner and the menu wasn't something I generally eat, seemed a bit fru fru to me. But we made some changes which the staff happily accommodated and ended up having an awesome meal of elk of blue cheese bacon mashed potatoes instead of the normal accompaniment. The potatoes are worth the visit just on their own. Sangria was plentiful, staff was great and we were able to have a conversation in there without having to raise our voices despite it being very busy. The layout of the restaurant over two floors works well and it's a nice pls e to visit and I'd go back again. read more

Small two story rustic bar with excellent food. Downstairs seating is narrow high long bar tables. Upstairs offers 2-4 person tables in the loft that overlooks the bar below. The music is a little louder for conversation but manageable. Small local tap beer selection that offers some great options. I do not recall hard alcohol options. We enjoyed a small brew Seward IPA from Storey Creek. I was impressed with the multiple servers that were attentive, intuitive and knowledgeable about the menu and beers. The artichoke dip was served with warm freshly baled flatbread. It was rich and cheesy. Our main dishes were half orders of nachos and the clams with sausage. Both were very good. The creamy broth was incredibly flavorful that can be soaked up with the piece of flatbread served with the dish. Highly recommend this dish! For dessert we had creme brulee which was a nice small portion and freshly made but a pretty classic recipe. Bonus offerings of this establishment include: Parking lot. Awwwwe theeee ole Rustic Goat. A newer place that seems like it should have been there forever. This is an easy 4.5 stars. 5 stars cause I can't find a reason to dock a star for anything. They have good modern food choices with Alaskan flair. I had the monthly special burger. It was cooked perfectly with a very good buttery bun. She had the flat iron wedge salad w F'ing delicious roasted Campari tomatoes (her language not mine). We had Drunken Clams & Sausage--get the larger plate for 3-4 people. The sauce had an obvious white wine creaminess. Super delicious. Excellent service, people, food, environment, and beer selections. Go for a drive with your friends to earthquake park and reminisce over the good ole days before that side of town was under water. Neat little hipster vibey restaurant in Anchorage. Stopped here for a night before heading down to whittier to grab some food. Wait was about 30 minutes at peak hours. It was definitely worth the wait. Our server was very friendly and attentive. Ordered three dishes...The heat miser, rustic goat nachos and the scallops. Food is slightly on the pricier side, but it is unique and different from the average dish. The heat miser is a little spicy but has alot or flavor and sprinkled with a hefty amount of meat. Scallops were the most expensive and I did feel like they did skimp out on the scallops...there were only about 8 tiny ones in our bowl. Base was a unique lime cocunut sauce and a little tangy. Solid 10/10. Lastly were the rustic goat nachos which were topped with a good amount of cheese, meat, tomatoes, chilies, and caramalized onions with a spicy chipotle creme sauce. Sigh. This place continues to be the most beautiful building in Anchorage, but it is plagued with other issues: - Service: can be really bad. We were here a few weeks ago and servers were going around re-filling waters that were almost already full and doing chores...while we just sat, with no menus for 20 minutes (after being seated by the host)...when we were finally handed menus, there was no acknowledgement of the wait time. - Prices: really, really high. - Portions: really, really small. - Food can go two ways here: pay $30-$40 for a normal portion, pay over $20 for a burger...if you do neither of those, you will be met with a laughably small portion. On a personal note, the fries are battered. I just do-not like battered fries, especially with a burger, way too rich. Is it just me or is everyone in Anchorage switching to battered fries? Maybe because they hold up better to take-out orders? To end on a positive note: they do have one of the best beer selections in Anchorage (in terms of quality). Not only that, the prices are way more reasonable than most restaurants of this caliber! read more

Best meal I had in all of Anchorage. Stopped here on my final night in Anchorage and I'm so glad I did. Reservations were full, but we tried putting our name in around 5:30 on a Monday. There was a 20 minute wait, which wasn't bad - but next time I'd make a reservation. I had the burratta to start and then the elk for my meal. It was one of the best meals I've had in a long time. The elk was just fantastic. Everyone should get it. I was so so happy. My husband and kid split a pizza and they also loved theirs. I tried a bite and it was super good (also--what's up with pizza being everywhere in Alaska? I feel like every restaurant was a pizza place). Absolutely recommend here. read more

I visited here while in Anchorage and the Rustic Goat did not disappoint. The place looks sizable from the outside but it's somewhat small. The kitchen is in the lower level. The first floor is basically all bar seating and first come, first served. It reminds me of a tapas style restaurant in that tables are long and thin, so it can get tricky if you order a lot of dishes. The upstairs has more traditional seating, and a small number of tables are also available outside. The menu is not extensive, but there's appetizers, salads, burgers, fish tacos, pizzas, and more traditional meals. I ordered the salmon tacos and they were exquisite. They (3) had tons of flavor and the salmon was so good (I think they use local, wild-caught). The tacos also had pico, pickled red cabbage and what seemed to be a jalapeño-based sauce. I definitely recommend. My companion ordered the nachos as a meal and those were also very good. The nachos definitely had a kick to them thanks to jalapeño or Serrano peppers that were roasted and caramelized. Also, the saison beer (local brew) was probably the best I've ever had in that it was sooo smooth. Highly recommend! My hubby ordered the Gyro and was thrilled. I ordered the meatballs. So, those may have been the best meatballs in my life. It's been 45 minutes and I think I want to go back for more. Our server, Lina, totally got the ooos and awwws. Those sounds must be commonplace. Speaking of Lina-- super nice and professional. She found me the perfect wine ( a 10 year old port) since I prefer sweet wines. Eating here was another feather for an Alaskan culinary scene. I am still devastated that this meal is over because it was one of the best I've had in so long that truly felt fresh and filling without being overdone. Rustic Goat is stunning yet understated restaurant just 10 minutes outside of the airport. As my brother said, it looks like a cozy lodge turned into a restaurant. Inside its two stories with a full bar and upstairs offers great views of the mountains in the distance. The mountains look unreal but that's for another day. Starting off simple, if you know me you know that I always order hot water with lemon at the start of a meal and this was no different. I loved the cutps and plates they brought out and that's always a great mark of a good restaurant. Now for the food ahhh !!! We got two salads: the greek and the caesar. Don't tell my brother I said this, but his caesar salad was probably the best I've ever had. It was exactly perfect -- the crisp of the lettuce, the amount of sauce and croutons and cheese, and saltiness. The greek was also perfectly balanced and exactly what I wanted. It was just a little tough to eat since the fork wasn't sharp enough and the pieces were sometimes too hard to get on the fork so I had to use a spoon as well. My parents split the coconut curry soup and WOW. This had all the Thai flavors that I love and, again, perfectly balanced. Not too sweet, not to salty, not too spicy. I would happily eat this soup everyday in the winter if I could and I would even eat it in the burning hot summer. Now for the PIZZA!! First of all, the crust is exactly what I look for. It's thin but still doughy and chewy and soft and melts in your mouth. When I say I'm craving bread, their pizza crust is exactly what I mean. We ordered the wild mushroom and buffalo chicken. Both were equally amazing in their own way. The wild mushroom was a white sauce pizza and somehow still felt light without compromising on texture or taste. I can confidently say the buffalo chicken pizza is the best I've ever had. It was properly spicy, filled with chicken, and the red sauce was unlike anything I've tried before. It tasted like they raised the chickens and harvested the vegetables just for this--it was so fresh. The creme de la creme was dessert: Carrot Cake. I don't like overly sweet treats but I always need to end on a sweet note. I asked if the carrot cake would be too sweet (since it usually is) and the waitress said "No!" as if her life depended on it. She was so serious, we couldn't help but laugh. When it came out, it was gone no more than 90 seconds later. It was not too sweet, had sweet roasted hazelnuts, and it was moist but still a tougher cake texture that wouldn't completely fall apart on your fork. I grew up in San Francisco and my husband grew up in the San Diego area so we know good food. My husband and our son had the shrimp scampi and said it was the best they had ever eaten. I had the airline chicken breast and I have to say it quite possibly may be the most delicious chicken dish I've ever eaten. The pizza was burnt on the bottom and the scampi was very acidic. However, the building is really unique and gives you the feeling of being in a snow globe. If you're thinking of going here keep in mind the food is not out of this world so you're really going for the ambiance and architecture. read more
