The place is small and family owned and operated. The owner/ sushi man, Has a 25 year following of devoted fans. The small staff works like a well oil machine, handling the front of the house dine in customers ,phone in takeout orders, as well and accommodating special request. The green salad was pretty boring and filled with huge pieces of iceberg lettuce and very little ginger dressing. It was also served on a plate which makes it harder to eat. When I asked for more dressing they were prompt. The tuna avocado roll was out of this world! One of the best I've had and the tuna was extremely fresh. I didnt love my yellowtail scallion roll as the yellowtail was a bit on the strong side. Overall a good experience and I would definitely return. The customer service was great! read more

On Friday January 6th my fiancé and I ordered sushi from ginger as we frequently due. We called earlier knowing that they are usually busy and the wait time can be long. At 5:30 they told us it would be 45 minutes. Now, because we order here often we know that usually it's longer than what they quote you. My fiancé waits an hour and then heads to our up our order. When he arrives they tell him it's not quite ready yet which is fine. However, he started to notice that they were serving the in house customers and door dash people prior to the people that have called ahead. In the end, he had waited an hour in the restaurant which in total means we waited 2 hours when quoted only 45 minutes. We were not upset about the 2 hour wait but the fact that they cannot give us an honest wait time and cause us to have to waste time in their establishment. After waiting this amount of time not even a meaning apology was given. We now will take our frequent sushi order to another local restaurant. read more

Yelp has been letting me down recently. Came to this place based on the reviews and it was NO GOOD! The 2 stars is for the awesome and friendly service, however... Calamari app was just tempura fried - so that's what it tasted like - tempura batter. Sushi was all very subpar and each roll fell apart the minute you touched it. Also we got a few 'special rolls' that just had a pile of crap on top of them including... you guessed it tempura batter! Also there wasn't any music playing so the restaurant was silent and it was very awkward to have a conversation. Definitely skip this place. read more

Yum! Came here following kind recommendation from a fellow yelper and SO glad I did. The place is quaint ... Maybe 10 small tables, but the longest I ever had to wait was 20 min on a weekend night. The service is always friendly and more importantly the sushi is fresh and also reasonably priced! The specialty rolls are inventive too and big! Also a BYO! They usually give you a little something extra at the end of your meal for free... Mochi or fried Cali rolls or orange. I prefer the mochi but definitely appreciate the gesture. I tried this restaurant last week with my brother and cousin. The food was amazing. I ordered the black dragon roll and shrimp tempura roll. The sushi was fresh and delicious. Very very tasty. I enjoyed the food very much. The waitress was friendly and offered us 4 pieces of sushi for free as well as 2 pieces of mochi ice cream. While the best sushi meal of my life was undoubtedly the Omakase menu at Sushi Sasabune in Honolulu, Ginger just simply never disappoints and sometimes impresses with new rolls they come up with. Must try is the peppered seared tuna appetizer with "wonderful sauce". When you call something wonderful sauce, you better make sure you deliver...well they certainly do. I love various rolls they have such as the Martine Roll, Spicy Girl, Green Dragon, etc. This place has all of your basics executed very well. Their spicy sauce in particular, has the perfect balance of spiciness and mayo. After you've had a great meal and they bring you a complimentary fried California Roll, you feel like you can't eat anymore, you somehow forget how full you are when they bring you some mochi with the check. read more

Ginger is by far my favorite sushi place ever. I love Ginger. I make everyone I know come with me there, and they are never disappointed. I have no problem recommending that someone go there because I know it will be good. It has the standard fare, but their special rolls are what make them stand out, for me. While they may be a little on the expensive side, they are well worth it. The special rolls are GIANT! But fantastic and delicious. I don't think I've ever had a bad roll. The fish is always fresh and it's always delicious. The only problem I have is that the ginger dressing can sometimes be too onion-y. But since it's sushi, who cares about the salad dressing! The two stars are for service. Otherwise I would have given their food a solid 4. I ordered for takeout from their menu provided on their website. When I got to the restaurant to pay, the bill was $8 more than what I calculated at home based on the prices I saw online. I asked the owner if they raised their prices and she said it was an old menu. I asked to have my bill changed to reflect what was provided online and she kept saying "we will change it next time, it's only a couple dollars" to which I said "I know it's only a few dollars more but a dollar is a dollar." She kept saying she doesn't understand but the young man there did and so did the chef. I'm assuming they were the owners. So I said I will gladly leave unless you change the bill to reflect what is stated online. They changed the bill but only after she went to the back and said, which in sure were profanities, in her language. The food was great, which is upsetting because I would have loved to eat from there again. We ordered the salmon delight roll, spicy crunchy hamachi, and sashimi deluxe. It was fresh, not overly sauced and not full of rice. I would have gladly paid the new price for the portions given because it was like paying for two rolls anywhere else but I didn't agree with the business practice. UPDATE your menu please. EDIT: Decided to give a second try but this time we dined in. The lady we had an issue with wasn't there so it was a much more pleasant time. The sushi was again, excellent. I stopped by on a Thursday evening for a quick bite and to try this place although I've been living down the street for two years. It's a small quaint little place with quick service and great food! Absolutely terrible! I don't how this dump has any good reviews. Incedibly tiny place. I've seen walk-in closets bigger than this entire restaurant. The sanitary conditions are disgusting. The board of health should pay this place a visit. The bathroom is just a few feet away from a store room with a shabby curtain as a door through which I saw boxes of vegetables broken open and spilling out onto the bare floor. The wobbly table that we were seated at was so sticky, I had to literally peel my napkin wrapped chop sticks off of it. I couldn't rest my arms on the table because the stickiness would pull out the hairs on my arms. The paint on the walls was peeling and chipping everywhere. After waiting 25 minutes for the waitress's initial visit, I ordered beef terryaki and Philadelphia rolls. About another 25 minutes later, the beef terryaki arrived. The portion was very tiny and therefore, way overpriced. It looked and tasted like a frozen microwave meal. After waiting yet another 20-30 minutes with no waitress visit, I got up and inquired about our sushi rolls. Turns out, they were accidentally given to another table. I demanded the check immediately. I paid (no tip) and complained and walked out. We weren't the only ones. The atmosphere inside the restaurant was tense as other diners kept looking around for a waitress and calling out loud for things. They didn't even seem that busy; 5 occupied tables, 3 chefs and 2 waitresses. One of the occupied tables was a party of 3 teenagers who were very ill-mannered. Their loud coversation was laced with street slang and profanity. They were also victims of the long wait times but they didn't handle the conditions as civilized as the other diners. They were really making a scene and creating an awkward situation. Given the current state of things in this country, I can't really fault the staff for not being more proactive in attempting to deal with the thugs. But I can fault the staff for everything else that contributed to a horrible dining experience. read more

I was pleasantly surprised with the quality of sushi here. The place is small but very clean and inviting. It is perfect for families and small groups. I got to try the Ebi Mountain Roll, shrimp balls, Golden Dragon Roll and the Ginger Dynamite (?) rolls, and loved all of them! I'm usually the sashimi type, but today for some reason I craved some rolls. I came here based on the reviews and the distance from my home and I was not disappointed. They gave us free appetizers (shumai and edamame), a free roll (fried California), and mochi ice cream and orange slices for free! Service was top-notch and food was excellent. This little place is a great place to pop in for a quick dinner. My husband and i have gone there twice and the service is good and the food comes out fast. It seems like a place locals go and they do good take out service. We like to get the sushi there, the fish on rice and some simple rolls. The first time we went we got a bunch of fancy specialty rolls and we found that they did not have the 'pop' factor that we were looking for, especially at that price($10-15). So the second time we stuck with the simple stuff and really enjoyed it. The fish is fresh and sweet. I just need to say this very succinctly. This restaurant was absolutely fantastic. On Easter Sunday, with very little options available for takeout during the Covid-19 quarantine, I turned to Yelp. A 15 minute ride from Clark and it was worth every minute in the 30 minute round trip. Spicy Kani Salad, Seaweed Salad (with 2 little pieces of crab), Shrimp Cucumber Roll, Spicy Crab Roll, Oshii Roll, Spider Roll, and Big Momma Roll. They threw in half of a fried California Roll. Well, frankly, it's the best sushi I've had in years and the workers were extra friendly. As I walked in, social distancing 6 feet behind the patron in front of me, I had a chance to listen. The patron and owners had a warm relationship and were on a first name basis. June and Kim I believe are their names. They were genuinely caring and pure in their interactions. I felt at home when i approached the register. The food was packed beautifully and tasted even better. Once we are done with this Stay at Home, my family will drive the 15 minutes with a bottle in hand to patronize this adorable restaurant in Fanwood. read more

This is still my favorite sushi place in the area. I've been numerous times and have never been let down (aside from the fact that they don't take american express). I've worked my way up to the "real" sushi and sashimi since my last review. The tuna and salmon are really fresh. There's no "fishiness" like at some establishments.
