While in town for a work conference, I was looking for authentic Chicago deep dish pizza and was pleasantly surprised to find this restaurant while walking around the area. Upon entering, hubby and I were greeted by an open door, upbeat music, and warm employees before being quickly seated. Upon inquiring about a vegan deep dish pizza, our waitress Gaby informed us that it would take 45 minutes to an hour to be ready. Considering the long cook time for our pizza, I ordered the hummus plate appetizer which was flavorful and had a great balance of pita bread, hummus, and veggies. As our deep dish pizza arrived at our table, hubby and I were impressed by how perfectly cooked it looked. The pizza was delicious and flavorful vegan cheese then topped with black olives, green olives, and mushrooms. The crust was crispy with the hint of sweetness which we later learned was due to the use of sweet corn in their crust. Gaby was a friendly and attentive waitress who made sure our drinks were constantly refilled. At the end of our meal, we were happy to have happened up the restaurant and hubby promised to visit again the next time we're in the Chicago area. read more

If you're looking for classic Chicago deep dish, Gino's East will always be at the top of my list! The staff was incredibly friendly and welcoming, making the whole experience even better. The deep dish pizza is the best I've ever had! What I appreciate most is the consistency, whether I've visited this location or another Gino's East, the quality is always outstanding. You know exactly what you're getting, and it never disappoints. I also love their make-your-own pizza options, which allows you to customize your perfect pie. Since deep dish takes a little time to bake (as it should!), their appetizer selection is a huge plus and makes the wait enjoyable. Overall, another fantastic experience. Gino's East remains my favorite Chicago pizza spot, and I only wish they would expand to more locations so I could get my deep dish fix more often! read more

So glad my daughter found this restaurant while we were visiting Chicago! It was very busy on a Friday night, even though we got there early that evening. Service was great. My daughter ordered the 9 inch deep crust, pizza and had a hard time finishing it on her own. One of the servers came to cut it and put one slice on our plates. Another server told us what makes their pizza unique is that the crust is made from cornbread. It was so delicious. I could've eaten the crust by itself. I will definitely be going back if I'm in Chicago again. read more

I did not know how a pizza place could be this good. First thing. I enter. Smelled amazing. We sat down and the tables were sorta sticky . For appetizers we got the spinach mozzarella sticks. Monday thru Thursday from 4-6pm. Discounts on select beers and a few $5 wines. I love the Pinot Noir. Also, 50% off thin crust pizzas! I love the Diavola thin crust. It's my standard order. It's perfect. I love the spicy pepperoni, truffle oil, and fresh basil. The crust is crispy and perfect. I want to applaud the consistently. Every time I come here, the food is perfect. The pizza is amazing every time. Everything is really good here. I love the mozzarella sticks. The desserts are great too! I also really love the Sangria. Everyone who works here is really kind. As I as now was going to be in the neighborhood, I decided it was high time for me to check out Gino's East and sample one of their legendary deep-dish pizzas. Tip: The name Gino's East refers to the fact that the first location opened by this micro-chain was due East of the original Gino's. Good things come to those who wait, and you'll be waiting up to forty-five minutes for one of Gino East's awesome deep-dish pies to bake. Don't fret though - you'll be SOOO glad you waited!! From Gino's obviously fresh and top quality ingredients, to the flakey, buttery corn bread crust, to their completely fabulous sauce, I knew after my very first bite that I'd revisit Gino's East each and every time I return to Chicago - it's simply that good! I know some people put Geno's East down a little compared to those other pizza places in Chicago, but I don't know why. First, I do prefer their sauce over the place, for me it seems a little sweeter and more tomato forward. I also prefer the one giant piece of sausage over the entire pizza so each bite gets sausage. Is the other pizza place great too? Yes, but I just prefer Gino's over the other places. read more

We decided on deep dish for our first meal in Chicago. We've tried all the chains before and came back here because we remember the crust being light and flaky. We arrived around 7 on a Friday night and were seated in about 10 minutes. We know deep dish pizzas take a long time, so we started with the harvest salad. It was delicious but wish it had romaine instead of iceberg. To kill our time waiting for the pizza, we also ordered a thin crust Diavola. It was really good. For deep dish, we got the Meaty Legend. It came out quicker than 45 minutes since they said they weren't that busy. Their signature crust had really good flavor but we would have liked it a little crunchier. The mixture of the meets was delicious. For dessert we got the deep dish brownie. It was light and fluffy like a cake and had good chocolate flavor. They have Pepsi so I had to get an adult beverage. The white sangria didn't seem like it had alcohol in it, but it hit me hard after a long day of travel. Julio was a very attentive server. There were games on the TVs. Our server, Miguel, was exceptional. Friendly, fun-spirited, and on point with every detail. He repeated back our order to ensure accuracy and nailed it the first time. The atmosphere was as casual and clean, offering outdoor seating surrounded by plants for privacy from street and ambiance. And of course their famous deep dish pizza with the sausage patty, plenty of cheese, and chunky tomato sauce delicious. Great Service & Delicious Deep Dish We had a great experience here--both the service and the food were excellent. We ordered the mozzarella sticks and a small 9" deep dish pizza with sausage and pepperoni. It was the perfect size meal for two, especially since we were really hungry--and it hit the spot! Our timing was a little early for dinner, but the place started to fill up as we were finishing, even on a weeknight. Fortunately, there was no wait when we arrived. We were staying at the hotel just across the street, so the location was super convenient. The bar atmosphere was nice and relaxed. While touring the city was able to visit Gino's for some of their legendary deep dish pizza. And although the atmosphere here was great, I don't feel their pizza lived up how much this place was hyped. I have been to several outstanding Italian restaurants that have served authentic food with fresh ingredients and this was not one of them. Maybe this was because on our visit we were extremely limited on what we could dine on as Gino's only provided us one slice of mediocre pizza which was made with an unflavored sauce and a crust that was average. I will say it was nice that the pizzas were brought out on hot skillets fresh out of the oven, but I would of been so much nicer if the pizza had some wow factor from better ingredients and preparation to deliver a memorable taste. read more

The vegan thin crust pizza was phenomenal. Very good. And my boss seemed to enjoy the mini deep dish. Our server was fantastic. She told us exactly how long everything would take to cook so that we could plan. We had to be at University of Chicago for an event and we wanted to make sure we had plenty of time. Taking 2 deep dish pizzas from this location "to go" on a recent trip to Chicago turned out to be massively disappointing: a regular cheese pizza from Costco has more cheese than this supposed "deep dish"!! No "cheese pull" whatsoever!! And I paid $70 to carry this waste in a cooler bag on my 3 hour flight home?! I wanted to avoid getting the mass-produced version shipped nationwide by buying/picking up in person, and the pizza DID seem to be made in-store (because it wasn't shrink wrapped and wasn't perfectly formed), and so it IS representative of the product at this location, making it even more disappointing. I've been loyal to Gino's since my first trip to Chicago 30 years ago, but that ends now: love the crust, but it needs to be filled! read more

My first authentic deep dish experience! We ordered the 9in spinach margherita deep dish pizza. This came with 4 chonky slices, which was the perfect amount of food for two people. The crust was a flavorful, almost cornbread like texture and flavor but crispy outside. The tomato, cheese, and basil sauce was flavorful, hot, and abundant. I just wish deep dish pizza restaurants would remind patrons that deep dish pizza takes 30-40 minutes to cook. We sat there bored and hungry but if we ordered an app I don't think we would have room to finish the hefty pizzas! This was our 1st experience with Chicago deep dish -- to mixed reviews. I loved the proportions of cheese and sauce, but my daughters did not. We also tried the sticks and dips. The spinach sticks were...odd. Not bad, not great. Almost like spinach dip in a mozzarella stick form. We got our pizza delivered, and I don't recommend it. Our pizza was a bit soggy, and the crust separated easily from the bottom/rest of the pizza. The mozzarella sticks were not stretchy, likely because they cooled. read more

We asked for a sample of the Gino's Lager, before getting a pitcher, he dropped it off, said he'd be back in just a moment and that was it. Never saw the dude again. We had a diff dude come to our rescue - though he didn't really seem to want to be there either. Maybe it's just because I'm from TX and we have manners. Not you are welcomes, no thank yous, no intros. Nothing. At least the food was decent. Def going to be trying other deep dish places on this 7 day stay. very touristy of me, i know... but it's actually really good and i'll probably hit it up again next time i'm in chicago! we got takeout so i can't comment much on the service or atmosphere besides it looked pretty cool inside and the hostess was nice. but onto the food: we got the spinach mozzarella sticks and they hit the spot perfectly. i'm a huge spinach guy so this was the perfect app for me. for the pizza, this wasn't my first deep dish experience, but i did not that the crust had sweet/yellow cornmeal which was a nice touch, that isn't what i always expect when having deep dish. i really enjoyed it. a tip i'll mention is that even if you order in advance for takeout, expect to still wait a little while. i put in the order while we were driving in traffic from hometown which was over 45 minutes, but it still took an additional 25 minutes to be ready. next time, i'll probably eat inside. read more
