Good service; the waiter checked on us a few times, good location, prices are reasonable, a lot of tables inside and outside of the restaurant, although the tables next to us were kind of close to us for my personal space. Salad was just okay. Deep dish pizza was great on the inside with fresh ingredients and was well-balanced, but I will say the crust was just average. While the thickness was ideal, the cook on it could have been longer to give it more of the crispy texture we enjoy, and then after some time, it gets soft and soggy and didn't really hold up well. I bought a frozen Gino's East pizza from the grocery store and my husband, whose not from Chicago, liked it so much that he wanted to try the restaurant. We picked up our daughter from her dorm in the south loop and had family dinner here on a Friday night. It was excellent. We had a caprese salad, minestrone soup and their buffalo wings while we waited for our deep dish pizza. It didn't take the 40 minutes we were quoted, either. Everything was great!! Our deep dish pizza was delicious. Unfortunately our waiter wasn't the best, he forgot the ketchup we asked for for our fries, someone else had to bring out our pizza and clear our appetizer plates, and he was hardly seen so much that another worker came over and checked on us, brought us to go boxes, and told us if we were ready to check out and didn't see him we could ask her. Needless to say, we gave her a tip for her service. They would have gotten 5 stars had it not been for this part, but otherwise we enjoyed our meal. read more

Waited over an hour to be seated and the place was not packed.then we waited over an hour to get our pizza. They had no sodas. Tables were dirty and sticky. Bad service and bad attitudes. No happy faces with the staff. just eye rolls and discussed. Would not recommend coming here. Plenty of other Chicago style pizza places. read more

When I complimented the music playing in the restaurant, she shared that it was her own playlist--such a thoughtful and personal touch. When in Chicago it's only right if you get deep dish, right?! Well that's what I have been told. I was with a group of friends and we needed to grab dinner so we caught an Uber to this spot. We walked in and we were seated immediately. We all ordered pizzas to our liking (there were 4 of us). We were warned it would take some time and it took about 10-15 minutes longer than the range we were provided. It took about 45-50 minutes for our food to come out. We were excited though. My pizza was good, but it wasn't what I was expecting. It was my first time having deep dish so I may just not be a fan of deep dish. I did want more cheese on the pizza. Overall, a nice spot but you need a lot of time to eat here for sure. read more

Okay. So...I literally CRIED when eating the deep dish cheesy delight. I'm not even kidding. It was THAT good. Okay, so I hadn't eaten all day after taking a red eye to Chicago and It was the first food I had seen in two days, but tears of joy were present. Gino's East is a staple in Chicago. I used to eat at the original as a kid. The classic deep dish, sausage patty in the middle is my go to. This time I order one deep dish and one thin slice crust. I was pleasantly surprised with the thin crust pizza. It had great flavor and spice. We ordered take out so we didn't get a chance to experience the restaurant service. Walk in to the podium and they bring your pizza right out. The smell of bleech was very prevalent while waiting. So they are cleaning. read more

Pizza is truly a gift from the gods so when I was diagnosed 25 years ago with celiac disease (gluten intolerance) I thought my culinary life had ended. I was a foodie, pizza was my favorite food and there's nothing better than a hot sourdough bread to start a meal or make an interesting sandwich. Now, all that was over for me and for the first 15 years after my diagnosis, the gluten-free food could be described as cardboard or parakeet food. I even owned a restaurant that made California seasonal organic and Italian food, so making me Gluten Intolerant seemed a cruel hoax. However, the equal misery of so many more as my disease became the fastest growing disease among people of European ancestry, chefs and companies recognized that there is now a growing billion dollar industry in gluten-free food, setting aside its very healthy benefits of avoiding white or flour, and GF substitutes were tasting better and better approximating the wheat flour based food items & sometimes better and lighter than the deep fried wheat battered items. As a self proclaimed expert on pizza traveling to all the pizza places in Los Angeles, and in my travels to Italy, New York, San Francisco and Chicago, I have been extremely pleased to find pizzas so good that could fool my wheateater and New Orleans friends with the quality of the gluten-free pizzas. On this trip to attend a wedding, I had already had an excellent GF deep dish Chicago pizza but I was told that the more popular pizza in Chicago is the tavern style pizza. On a glorious day I walked from the Millennium Park to this South Loop version of Gino's East. I reviewed the menu and ordered the GF Geno's Supreme with sausage along with a ginger ale. I was going to eat half and take the rest back to the hotel but the toppings, tangy tomato sauce and crust were good enough to cause me to eat the whole Pizza. Yum! A true Chicago deep dish paired with a thin crust pizza to go for sharing with my in-laws. The deep dish had fresh, melted mozzarella on top. The tomato sauce had a nice spice to it with small chunks of roasted tomato adding to the texture. The best part however, was the they put entire sausage patty across the entire top of the pizza so you get a bit of sausage in every single bit. I saw that someone described the crust a bit like a pot pie. It was delicious and I absolutely would order this again. The thin crust had a nice crispy bit to the crust (which I prefer), same tasty tomato sauce but much lighter (I prefer the amount and depth of it on the deep dish) and a variety of pork meat toppings. Both were very good and while I am typically a thin crust gal, this deep dish caught my attention and desire for more in the future. We were here visiting family from Portland, OR and while we have several pizzas choices they do not compare to the taste, depth and flavor you can get here in Chicago! While we took our meal to go, the restaurant and bar were welcoming, clean and cozy. I would definitely eat here in the future. The staff was pleasant and our order was ready when we arrived. The true test ~ will I be back? Absolutely! And that was the vote of the entire family as we sat around the table, ate, laughed and caught up on everything us. read more

A rustic atmosphere tempered by up beat modern pop music and located in the down town Chicago area, if you're an out of towner like me it is a perfect lunch spot. If you're a local, you probably already know. The inch+ deep cheesy tomatoey goodness is surrounded by a crunch crust that tastes to me like cornbread but has the texture of a flaky biscuit. A 9" pie was filling for two grown men, so bring your appetite! Please note though if you're getting a deep dish, it takes time to cook that much goodness! We were warned when ordering that cook time for the pizza was 45 minutes. So, order ahead if you only have a 30 minute lunch! read more
