very touristy of me, i know... but it's actually really good and i'll probably hit it up again next time i'm in chicago! we got takeout so i can't comment much on the service or atmosphere besides it looked pretty cool inside and the hostess was nice. but onto the food: we got the spinach mozzarella sticks and they hit the spot perfectly. i'm a huge spinach guy so this was the perfect app for me. for the pizza, this wasn't my first deep dish experience, but i did not that the crust had sweet/yellow cornmeal which was a nice touch, that isn't what i always expect when having deep dish. i really enjoyed it. a tip i'll mention is that even if you order in advance for takeout, expect to still wait a little while. i put in the order while we were driving in traffic from hometown which was over 45 minutes, but it still took an additional 25 minutes to be ready. next time, i'll probably eat inside. read more

This is the smallest Gino's I think I've ever been in--although most of the Gino's East locations have been closed! This South Loop location is much easier to get to than the one in Streeterville, and we had zero problem parking around 7pm on a Wednesday. That was truly a surprise, not gonna lie. In that spirit of full honesty... I was a little disappointed. The crust of our pizza tasted a little different than it has in the past--Gino's used to have this distinctive yellowy-orange crust because they had a cornbread crust. This was considerably lighter than it has been and it did not have that distinctive taste. I hope they didn't alter their recipe to taste like lesser chains, because the Lou's and Giordano's of the world have long been overrated. I'm glad I got to taste a pizza I've been curious about though--the Chicago Fire--because I usually get the Gino's special. The CF was alright, but not nearly as spicy as I'd expected, and it won't replace my usual choice. I was really surprised to find that there is no baby changing station anywhere. I asked, and they don't, so be aware of that. But in 2024 there are places without them which was a surprise, and luckily my car was right out front so I could change her in the back because I don't know what I would have done otherwise--I may have had to leave. read more

I like the vibe better here compared to other places. Good service; the waiter checked on us a few times, good location, prices are reasonable, a lot of tables inside and outside of the restaurant, although the tables next to us were kind of close to us for my personal space. Salad was just okay. Deep dish pizza was great on the inside with fresh ingredients and was well-balanced, but I will say the crust was just average. While the thickness was ideal, the cook on it could have been longer to give it more of the crispy texture we enjoy, and then after some time, it gets soft and soggy and didn't really hold up well. Service elevated it to 4 stars. read more

I bought a frozen Gino's East pizza from the grocery store and my husband, whose not from Chicago, liked it so much that he wanted to try the restaurant. We picked up our daughter from her dorm in the south loop and had family dinner here on a Friday night. It was excellent. We had a caprese salad, minestrone soup and their buffalo wings while we waited for our deep dish pizza. It didn't take the 40 minutes we were quoted, either. Everything was great!! Our deep dish pizza was delicious. Unfortunately our waiter wasn't the best, he forgot the ketchup we asked for for our fries, someone else had to bring out our pizza and clear our appetizer plates, and he was hardly seen so much that another worker came over and checked on us, brought us to go boxes, and told us if we were ready to check out and didn't see him we could ask her. Needless to say, we gave her a tip for her service. They would have gotten 5 stars had it not been for this part, but otherwise we enjoyed our meal. read more

Waited over an hour to be seated and the place was not packed.then we waited over an hour to get our pizza. They had no sodas. Tables were dirty and sticky. Bad service and bad attitudes. No happy faces with the staff. just eye rolls and discussed. Would not recommend coming here. Plenty of other Chicago style pizza places. read more

From start to finish, our experience was fantastic! The food was delicious, and the service was even better. Our server, Bella, was incredibly friendly, attentive, and hospitable, truly making us feel welcome. When I complimented the music playing in the restaurant, she shared that it was her own playlist--such a thoughtful and personal touch. The pizza was absolutely delicious, and Bella went above and beyond by helping us cut it and serving it onto our plates, which made the meal feel even more special. When in Chicago it's only right if you get deep dish, right?! Well that's what I have been told. I was with a group of friends and we needed to grab dinner so we caught an Uber to this spot. We walked in and we were seated immediately. We all ordered pizzas to our liking (there were 4 of us). We were warned it would take some time and it took about 10-15 minutes longer than the range we were provided. It took about 45-50 minutes for our food to come out. We were excited though. My pizza was good, but it wasn't what I was expecting. It was my first time having deep dish so I may just not be a fan of deep dish. I did want more cheese on the pizza. Overall, a nice spot but you need a lot of time to eat here for sure. read more

Okay. So...I literally CRIED when eating the deep dish cheesy delight. I'm not even kidding. It was THAT good. Okay, so I hadn't eaten all day after taking a red eye to Chicago and It was the first food I had seen in two days, but tears of joy were present. As a west coast girl on her first Chicago trip, Gino's welcomed me with incredible food that ushered in a week of culinary delight. Also, our server was AMAZING. Gino's East is a staple in Chicago. I used to eat at the original as a kid. The classic deep dish, sausage patty in the middle is my go to. This time I order one deep dish and one thin slice crust. I was pleasantly surprised with the thin crust pizza. It had great flavor and spice. We ordered take out so we didn't get a chance to experience the restaurant service. Walk in to the podium and they bring your pizza right out. The smell of bleech was very prevalent while waiting. So they are cleaning. read more

Pizza is truly a gift from the gods so when I was diagnosed 25 years ago with celiac disease (gluten intolerance) I thought my culinary life had ended. I was a foodie, pizza was my favorite food and there's nothing better than a hot sourdough bread to start a meal or make an interesting sandwich. Now, all that was over for me and for the first 15 years after my diagnosis, the gluten-free food could be described as cardboard or parakeet food. I even owned a restaurant that made California seasonal organic and Italian food, so making me Gluten Intolerant seemed a cruel hoax. However, the equal misery of so many more as my disease became the fastest growing disease among people of European ancestry, chefs and companies recognized that there is now a growing billion dollar industry in gluten-free food, setting aside its very healthy benefits of avoiding white or flour, and GF substitutes were tasting better and better approximating the wheat flour based food items & sometimes better and lighter than the deep fried wheat battered items. As a self proclaimed expert on pizza traveling to all the pizza places in Los Angeles, and in my travels to Italy, New York, San Francisco and Chicago, I have been extremely pleased to find pizzas so good that could fool my wheateater and New Orleans friends with the quality of the gluten-free pizzas. On this trip to attend a wedding, I had already had an excellent GF deep dish Chicago pizza but I was told that the more popular pizza in Chicago is the tavern style pizza. On a glorious day I walked from the Millennium Park to this South Loop version of Gino's East. I reviewed the menu and ordered the GF Geno's Supreme with sausage along with a ginger ale. I was going to eat half and take the rest back to the hotel but the toppings, tangy tomato sauce and crust were good enough to cause me to eat the whole Pizza. I was full but happy and grateful that GF pizza substitutes can now replicate the wondrous regular crust pizza. Grazie Mille, Geno. read more

Yum! A true Chicago deep dish paired with a thin crust pizza to go for sharing with my in-laws. The deep dish had fresh, melted mozzarella on top. The tomato sauce had a nice spice to it with small chunks of roasted tomato adding to the texture. The best part however, was the they put entire sausage patty across the entire top of the pizza so you get a bit of sausage in every single bit. I saw that someone described the crust a bit like a pot pie. It was delicious and I absolutely would order this again. The thin crust had a nice crispy bit to the crust (which I prefer), same tasty tomato sauce but much lighter (I prefer the amount and depth of it on the deep dish) and a variety of pork meat toppings. Both were very good and while I am typically a thin crust gal, this deep dish caught my attention and desire for more in the future. We were here visiting family from Portland, OR and while we have several pizzas choices they do not compare to the taste, depth and flavor you can get here in Chicago! While we took our meal to go, the restaurant and bar were welcoming, clean and cozy. I would definitely eat here in the future. The staff was pleasant and our order was ready when we arrived. The true test ~ will I be back? Absolutely! And that was the vote of the entire family as we sat around the table, ate, laughed and caught up on everything us. read more

Gino's is a legend in the Chicago Deep Dish game! A rustic atmosphere tempered by up beat modern pop music and located in the down town Chicago area, if you're an out of towner like me it is a perfect lunch spot. If you're a local, you probably already know. The inch+ deep cheesy tomatoey goodness is surrounded by a crunch crust that tastes to me like cornbread but has the texture of a flaky biscuit. A 9" pie was filling for two grown men, so bring your appetite! Please note though if you're getting a deep dish, it takes time to cook that much goodness! We were warned when ordering that cook time for the pizza was 45 minutes. So, order ahead if you only have a 30 minute lunch! read more

It just was a LOT of work to organize multiple out of towners getting together and to show up and potentially wait an hour would have been so inconvenient. They really should fix this problem. The reservation issue aside the experience was great. The service is just sort of meh I didn't feel like they were above or beyond and didn't note anything exceptional there. But the food..... the food is the main event for sure. Everything I tried I loved. I had just had Italian the day before so I didn't want anything that felt "too Italian" (lasagna, pasta, pizza, etc) so I got the braised short rib over polenta which was a nice change of pace. I recently had the opportunity to try a pizza from Gino's East South Loop, and unfortunately, my experience left much to be desired. The pizza I received was missing three of the toppings I had ordered, and to make matters worse, the customer service I encountered was quite poor. Upon opening the pizza box, I immediately noticed the absence of the toppings that I had specifically requested. It was disheartening to see that a significant portion of my order was missing, as the toppings play a crucial role in enhancing the overall flavor and enjoyment of a pizza. Also, at $3.65 PER TOPPING, three toppings adds up pretty quickly. To address the issue, I contacted the pizzeria's manager to inform them about the missing toppings. After being on hold for about 15-20 minutes, I finally was able to speak to the manager. The manager did offer either reimbursement for the missing toppings, or to pick up a completely new pizza, free of charge. I took the reimbursement as the quality of the pizza was so poor. I've lived in Chicago two years and explore try a new pizza place at least monthly. The pizza crust I encountered had a texture and flavor reminiscent of cardboard. Its appearance was pale, lacking the inviting golden brown color typically associated with a well-baked crust. As I picked up a slice, it felt unnaturally stiff and dry, lacking the desired flexibility and lightness that a good crust possesses. Upon taking a bite, the texture further reinforced the cardboard comparison. It was excessively crunchy and brittle, offering minimal resistance to my teeth. Instead of a satisfying chewiness, the crust crumbled into a lifeless mass, almost as if it had been overworked or left devoid of moisture. In conclusion, my experience with this local pizzeria was marred by missing toppings and subpar customer service. It is essential for establishments to prioritize both the quality of their products and the satisfaction of their customers. I opted for the arugula & avocado salad (good portion, light and tasty) and the veggie burger. I think it's probably the best veggie burger I've ever had. I know that sounds like a lofty statement, but the patty is SO delicious (made in-house) on a fresh brioche roll. This place is great, I am so happy that Gino's East stepped it up with this new upscaled Sports Bar. I live in the area and was walking home from work and noticed something different in the Printers Row building. I went in to check it out and was surprised to say the least. Very tasteful decor, reclaimed wood, luxurious booths, and a substantial and dramatic bar and plenty of flat screen TVs showing all kinds of sports. They have 12 chicago local beers on tap and I was able to start with a beer flight, very cool, and I got to pick any 3 I wanted to try. There are definately some inetersting menu additions like a chopped brisket sandwich, which I will have to go back to try since I opted for the arugula avocado salad and the new Jalapeno Blue Deep Dish, the salad was fresh and light and the pizza was killer, who knew you could do that to a deep dish pizza? Since we are staying across the street at hotel Blake and we were told by friends that we had to go eat at Gino's, so this worked out perfectly! Our server Robyn took such great care of us and definitely went over and above to make sure that we had the best time. Years ago I used to work part-time as a mascot for a sports team and when we got into the restaurant there was the pizza mascot sitting on a table. I asked if I could help and drum up some business for them and they allowed me to have a little fun with it! Restaurant inside was clean and all of the food and drinks that we ordered were on point. I can honestly say that I was impressed by their deep dish pizza. I love a good thin crust more than anything and I was afraid that the deep dish was going to be dooughy. My wife and I came with a Groupon deal, we had been to the Gino's in Gold Coast but this was out first time at the sports bar themed one. The food was first rate which I come to expect from Gino's but I thought the atmosphere was much better than the traditional Gino's. Great place to catch a game. The location in Printer's Row makes it easy to get to as well. Rita was our server and we were very pleased with her. Had such a great experience at Gino's East! The pizza was exactly what you hope for--perfectly cooked with a rich, flavorful sauce and that signature deep-dish goodness. What really made the visit stand out, though, was our server, Miguel. He was attentive without being overbearing, super friendly, and made sure we had everything we needed from start to finish. You can tell he genuinely cares about the customer experience. Between the amazing food and Miguel's top-tier service, this was easily one of the best pizza outings I've had in a while. this place is epic. great vibe and great food. I'm visiting Chicago and this place was recommended and couldn't agree more that I had a great experience never having eaten a deep dish pizza and wanting to experience it and loved it. the pizzas are served whole with a medium being plenty for 2 people. takes about 45 minutes to cook so order an appetizer. I was there on their first day of a soft opening for their ice cream business but didn't get in line before closing to get some ice cream so next visit I will have to look forward to trying some read more

I came here with the kids after my Daughters kindergarten graduation, we ordered a deep dish pepperoni pizza and the two pastas on the menu, a buffalo mac and cheese that came with two strips of chicken tenders in buffalo sauce and the three P pasta that came with a cool Prosciutto flower on top. we thought it was cool. the server was friendly and the food was delicious. I have eaten at this location many times since I live nearby. The food is actually pretty good but the service leaves a lot to be desired. A) I shouldn't have to wait almost 2 hours for a pizza. That's crazy. And the waitstaff is rude and oftentimes has a "I could care less" attitude B) The music at this location is so loud. Over the past few times that I have been here I have to yell in order to talk to my friends, which is a huge pet peeve of mine. Oh well, thank god it's Chicago and there are plenty of better places available. read more

Great and fun atmosphere... Serving the original Gino's East Deep Dish goodness, the South Loop location also treats you to some really interesting spins on the Chicago staple. Don't just come here for the Deep Dish though, their menu reminds me of some of the better sports bar menus in downtown Chicago. Try the wings and one of Chicago's local craft beers on draft for game day. Swing by for some wine on tap and one of the best veggie burgers I've ever had for a cozy night at the bar. I'm changing my rating to 5 stars now!! I went back today to get some grub and drinks beforew we went to the BEARS game with a few friends. The waitstaff is always on top of their game...they have this 4sqaure promo now when you check in at different times you get free things or discounted beer. Heck yes! went in during lunch time it was pretty slammed. went up to the counter asked for a table they jotted down my cell number and waited for about 20 minutes got a text brought it over to the hostess counter and got seated. our waiter was nice and friendly. we ate a sausage deep dish pizza minestrone soup and a bruschetta which tasted great the sausage flavor was good and a bit spicy. if you are driving there the parking is a pain. read more

being raised in Chicago i know what good Chicago pizza is and let me tell you this place was way better than all the other places i have had. we tried a meat lovers and a spinach pizza. the meat lovers was good but it was way too salty so i dont really recommend that one but the spinach pizza oh man the blends of seasons and the sauce were fantastic. even if you are not into veggies trust this one will be your new fave. read more

Two weeks ago I was visiting the South Loop Area and stumbled upon Gino's new concept restaurant - the Sports Bar. Being from the south, I have to say the people were phenomenal! We order here every time we do a job near the area. The delivery is fast and they follow the instructions all the time. They even include the plates and napkins. I wish the food will be a little warmer when we receive it we have received cold pizza once so thats the reason for a 4 we ordered again today hopefully we don't have that issue again. read more

So I've been to several of the Gino's around town, this one is closest to my home. This one is usually not as busy so I can get my lunch and go. Rarely do I sit down, but when I have their deep dish I have no choice lol. I don't want to get into a whole who has the best deep dish debate, but Gino's is no pushover. read more

Every bite has the perfect balance of crunchy crust, rich sauce, and gooey cheese. It's simple perfection. We love this place so much that on each of our last two trips to Chicago, we ate here two days in a row. That's saying something in a city with no shortage of amazing restaurants. We always plan to branch out, but Pizano's keeps calling us back. The service has always been friendly, the atmosphere is comfortable, and the pizza is consistently outstanding. If you're visiting Chicago, don't feel like you have to order deep dish just because it's the famous choice. Do yourself a favor and try Pizano's thin crust. Our server was knowledge about the menu, provided excellent recommendations, and ensured those with allergies/food intolerances had some options. Ambiance: okay. It was pretty loud, and as such our group had trouble hearing each other over the noise. Food: just okay. Pizano's publishes allergen information on their website, which is very helpful, however all the pasta sauces contain dairy, so unless a person ordered plain pasta or pizza without cheese or sauce the plant based entree options are pretty limited. The fried pickles are vegan (without the dipping sauce), as is the Pizano's salad and sides of broccoli, spinach, and mushrooms (steamed or prepared with olive oil instead of butter). My dinner consisted of a few fried pickles, a salad, and some veggie sides and it was fine, however if a diner is paying for Italian, it would be nice to have some truly Italian vegan options to enjoy, rather than having to hodge-podge several menu items together.
