3.5/5 stars for me! Ordered the unagyudon. Flavors were well balanced, not too overwhelming or salty. Portions were hefty which is what I hoped for $18 price tag (I got double rice!). I feel that I could make this at home, which is exactly the vibe I was going for for today. Nothing particularly standout but I would come back. I eat a decent amount usually and I would say with double rice I finished about 65% of the portion with leftover for a heavier snack. Prompt service -- my food was ready about 10 minutes after I ordered. Note they're takeout only. I'd advise you heat up the food after receiving if you can, but gently to avoid drying out the meat!

Ordered via Doordash. Food prep and delivery were quick. The karaage was hot and fresh, which I greatly appreciated. I can taste a lot of white pepper in the chicken but felt it could use more salt (and perhaps a dash of msg :D). The mini dons were a good portion size for lighter appetites (regular rice level) and had adequate toppings relative to size. I wish the mini dons were warmer (ideally hot) because all 3 were around room temperature. Flavorwise, they tasted ok and were fairly neutral. It's not the best tasting I've had nor was it the worst... but it was filling. Ranking the 3 mini dons I got, the Oyako Don was first (most balanced in flavors), then Spicy Tantan (which reminded me of kimchi and gochujang flavored rice -- not that spicy, it's less than sriracha level), and lastly the Curry Omu Don. The curry was quite light on flavor.

Just discovered this little takeout section of Showa! Incredibly cheap for SF delivery but still delicious! So far we've tried the katsu, beef, and eel... cooked to perfection. Udon and soup were great, very flavorful! Not sure how they manage to keep the meats from overcooking, but I'm not complaining. Even the poached egg was perfectly cooked! The katsu wasn't as crispy but that was expected considering we ordered cheese on top and it had to be delivered - but the best part was it came in an aluminum tray so we could just quickly pop it in the oven and rebake it! So thoughtful!!!

Got the curry gyu don delivered and it was just all right -- the beef didn't feel very fresh and had a bit of a weird flavor. It was pretty fatty and stringy. I did appreciate that there was a lot of curry and rice. I liked the flavor of the karaage chicken, although it was pretty greasy/fatty too. It's 5pc but came with 6. Overall, this place gives a big portion for the price, but the quality felt slightly questionable.

If you're looking for a quick hot meal, then this is the place. I was pleasantly surprised on how fast! I doordashed the meal and was working through my lunch and within 30 mins of ordering, my order was at my door. That's quick! Tonkatsu Curry was on the menu for today. Generously portioned. However, the pork cutlet was lacking salt. The curry had a weird sweet tang that I later found cornichons in the curry. That was a little weird. All in all, the meal was on par and not bad -- Would I order again? Sure, but I'd have to be craving it.

The food is tasty, well crafted and authentic. The chef nails the identity of flavor and presentation. The price is friendly and I look forward it again.

doordashed the oyako don and unfortunately, the chicken was kind of tough. the egg also wasn't cooked the usual oyako don style so minus points for authenticity

Don't mistake Ginto Express for Showa (an upscale Japanese dine in restaurant next door). We tried to enter Showa only to be redirected to a small take out window which is Ginto Express (To-Go and Delivery only). You can order in advance but we scanned the QR code at the window and ordered quickly through Doordash. We ordered the Nikutama Beef Udon and also the Mini Fried chicken Kara-age Don rice bowl. Wait time was about 15mins. Food was plentiful for the price but so-so quality. The beef in the udon was stringy and fatty. Fried chicken rice bowl was good if you're not too hungry, it's perfect portion sized. Given the lack of Japanese restaurants and Udon locations around here, this is a quick stop to hit the spot!

3.75 stars for the baked curry tonkatsu don. I liked the cheese but I didn't care for cornichons in place of the traditional fukujinzuke. I think Curry Hyuga has better curry tonkatsu don. I can think of some places with better curry and others with better katsu. That said, I still think this restaurant is a great addition in the area where Japanese curry is lacking, even if it is a takeout/delivery spot. The attached sit down restaurant, Showa, is a fantastic experience so I hope both sides combined - Ginto and Showa - can keep this venture going. Beautiful presentation for takeout though - the container and chopsticks. Nice touch. Easy online ordering from the website (through DoorDash) and food came out quickly.

Quick, affordable, and delicious lunch spot that I go to at least twice a month to treat myself. I always order ahead for pickup and theyre really quick with the order. I usually get the curry spicy tan tan don and it has been a favorite for over 2 years now. The pork has a small kick, but the star of the show is the curry. It's not like any of the plain box curry you have. This place is one of the only spots that remind me of curry I had in Japan (other spots being Curry Hyuga and Coco Ichibanya). Since this place is cheap and quick, it'll always be my special monthly treat for lunch. Highly recommend to check this place out. I do have to admit that their beef in the gyudon can be a hit or miss, but definitely try their curry.

Very tiny spot and not much seating, so you're either taking it to go or you're praying there's a chair and a counter that's free. No big deal since I've been to other Japanese curry places like this. I've had a mix bag where the katsu was deliciously crispy and moist on the inside and days where the meat inside is dry, even drenched in curry. Hot curry sauce is Japanese hot, so it has spices in it but not spicy at all. The workers do their best for the lunch rush, so that's a plus at least. Overall, it was okay, but man the times sure have changed.

Parked easily on the side street, walked in around 3:30 in the afternoon, no hassle. The place has an authentic Japanese cafe feel, the kind where the menu has things you don't typically find at your average sushi spot. I had my eye on the sandos, specifically the Chicken Katsu Sando, but landed on the Spicy Tuna Don instead. Good call. Spicy yellowfin tuna tartare over well-seasoned sushi rice, topped with sesame, furikake, green onions, with a little radish and cucumber on the side. The tuna was very fresh, the rice was on point. Service was quick and polite - they even have an outside window for takeout. One nice detail: a neat dollop of wasabi is pasted along the inside wall of the bowl, which is a clean way of letting you control exactly how much heat you want to mix in. Tasteful presentation, but don't let that fool you. It has a legitimate kick, so calibrate accordingly. Paired it with their Honjozo dry sake cup, which was a nice complement to the meal and exactly the right call for a mid-afternoon bite. The sandos looked great on other tables and I fully intend to go back for the Chicken Katsu Sando - and then go try the wine bar next door to it. which was pretty tempting.
