Tonkotsu ramen with black garlic and kakuni and spicy broth.
    Addison L.

This place has rapidly become one of my favorite ramen spots in the city. At Torraku, cozy, no-frills dining meets ridiculously fast service and delicious bites. Hole-in-the-wall doesn't quite capture the wild disparity between the unassuming storefront with a Square card reader taped to a folding table and the immensely rich flavors bursting out of each dish. With that in mind, the important stuff: What to get: It's hard to go wrong with the tonkotsu ramen with black garlic. I like spicy, so I prefer to order it spicy, but it's still great even at mild. In terms of meat, the kakuni (pork belly) is my top pick, but the chasu is also fantastic. If you're still hungry, grab a plate of the chicken karaage. Those suckers are juicy. When to go: This place is pretty informal, so it's great for a lunch or casual dinner date. It can get crowded weekends, but the line moves fairly quickly. This spot used to be a food truck, and it maintains those down-to-earth vibes.

One of the only Japanese restaurants in the area! AMBIANCE Beautiful airy space with lots of seating and skylight. Would feel confident dining with a group of up to 8. FOOD We ordered the Katsu Chicken Sando to go and it was delicious!! They used classic squared white bread, cabbage slaw, and crispy Katsu! SERVICE Only got take out but the very busy staff still took a moment to check in with me. Will definitely come back to sit down dine and eat some ramen :)

Tried something different at this local spot near work. Ordered at rye mini counter from a friendly lady. Coworker got katsudon and I had the beef yakisoba. I know that it's odd to order a non-ramen dish from a ramen shop. Food came out quickly and the yakisoba was very good! Nice chew on the noodles and lots of Teri marinated beef. Good quick lunch spot.

We were in the area, so we decided to try this place out. It looks like the way it works is that you order at the register first and then sit where you want. While my friends were still ordering, the cashier was nice enough to ask us where we wanted to sit while bringing water glasses over to the table. They even asked if we wanted the door open, and I took them up on the offer since it would help increase ventilation. I got the Seafood Ramen without garlic or spice as well as a Moshi Sparkling Yuzu drink. I loved the drink - it was refreshing with just the right amount of yuzu flavor. However, the Seafood Ramen was a little bland. Even the seafood itself, which I expected to have its own cooked flavor, tasted like it was simply boiled and added to the ramen. The noodle was the usual wavy kind. Fortunately, I was able to try a friend's ramen with black garlic to see that adding garlic would have made a big difference. Overall, I appreciated the service and the ramen is good (if you get garlic), though I've had better ramen elsewhere. Out group had the tonkotsu, miso & shoyu ramens, the latter w/ level 4 spice & extra pork belly. All orders were fully enjoyed. Even the fried oysters appetizer was flakey, crunchy w/ fresh tasting oysters. This place hasn't missed yet!

Good ramen. We were in the area and used to visit when Sally's was still next door. The menu isn't very big with meat and vegetable choices for ramen. Also some donburi. My tonkotsu ramen was good. A tad too spicy even though I asked for mild. Lots of bamboo shoots, wood fungus and 1/2 an egg that didn't have much flavor but nicely soft boiled. The broth was flavorful and meat was lean. The noodles were nice and so yellow. $16 Hubby had the katsu Don. He said the pork katsu was cooked just right but not the traditional way he liked as it didn't have the egg topping and sweet sauce. It was more of a tonkotsu sauce. $16. He wouldn't reorder for that reason. Plan to be back to try the other dishes when we're in the Dogpatch area again. Lots of tables and well spaced apart.

Excellent Ramen. I got the Tonkatsu Ramen with Kakuni. The broth had a great flavor (though it was slightly less fatty than my preference). The egg was excellent. The soy sauce flavor had penetrated deep into the yolk of the egg, which I have never experienced before, and resulted in a very flavorful yolk. Overall the portion size was generous, with three strips of Kakuni and plenty of other toppings. I could actually get some ginger, bamboo shoots, and mushrooms in almost every bite. I ate it over two meals, dinner as well as lunch the next day. Almost everything was $14.50, which is reasonable given the typical price of a bowl of ramen in SF is about $15, especially given all the extra toppings that are included.

Miso Vegan Ramen and tempura side

Had the vegan ramen- simple, flavorful and delicious. Set up a table outdoors without hesitation. Split between two bowls for us as well and still remained a great portion size for lunch. Tasty tempura too- light and not greasy. Cap it off with an empanada from El Sur next door!

It was a cold Saturday afternoon so we wanted some ramen! We found this place on Yelp and decided to try it since both of us never been here before. I ordered the Tonkotsu Ramen with NO spice and my friend ordered Miso Ramen with mild spice. When we picked up our ramen from the table, we were confused which ramen was which. They told us the one I grabbed was the Tonkotsu ramen, but it didn't look like the usual Tonkotsu ramen that I'm used to because of the dark broth color. Anyways, when eating my bowl of Tonkotsu ramen, the soup tasted weird, like it had a green tea flavor to it. I didn't enjoy that. Also, my broth had a spicy flavor in it when I asked for NO SPICE. My friend's Miso ramen also had a few red pepper flakes too, which means the workers messed up our ramen orders because only ONE of us ordered spice in our ramen. Ok, so enough about what we didn't like, there were a few things we enjoyed. We both enjoyed how the meat was flavored and not too overcooked. The staff was nice too. I'd be willing to visit this place again. If I went here again, I'd like to try other menu items since they sell donburi and katsu sandos too! I wouldn't get the ramen again. I didn't like how small their portion was considering the price of it and didn't like the broth either, but I did like the noodles they used.

Ambiance wasn't great but food was awesome! Felt too open and not cozy inside, I think they recently opened. Their spicy ramen was so good, didn't feel so greasy at all. Also got friend oysters and. Wake me salad which were both delicious.

Came here on a rainy Saturday night through a recommendation and it was a great idea. The menu had ample choices and there were plenty of beverage options. They also have various beers. The bowl instantly warmed me up from all the wind and rain going on. There are few seats inside and not much for a large group. Parking is on the lot so it is accessible access. It is a super casual spot overall. I bought the miso vegan ramen and it was really delicious. The broth tasted spicy and the toppings that came with it added more flavor. I opted for black garlic instead of fried. Overall, a quality ramen spot. 10/10 for vegans, vegetarians, or pescatarians.

Yum! Thanks to Yelp, we found this place. My daughter is a Ramen fan - so that was the dinner of choice in the City. It's located on a corner - easy to find. It's a cute little place where the service is quick and efficient. The tables are placed in close proximity to each other, but really - when you're slurping up noodles - who cares, right? Dish of Edamame to start - just the right amount of salt. Seafood Ramen - loves the bean sprouts in there and broth had good flavor. Nice pour of wine to enjoy with the meal.

The ramen was rich, comforting, and packed with flavor. The tonkotsu broth was creamy and savory without feeling overly heavy, and the noodles had a great texture. The pork belly was tender, flavorful, and melted in my mouth, making every bite satisfying. The buns were soft, fluffy, and a great addition to the meal. The filling was flavorful and paired perfectly with the pillowy bun, making them an easy favorite. The karaage was also a standout. Crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, and perfectly seasoned, it made for a great side to pair with the ramen. Service was friendly and efficient, and the staff kept things moving smoothly despite the restaurant being busy. The vibe is lively and energetic, with the feel of a popular ramen shop that's always buzzing with customers. It's casual, welcoming, and a great place to enjoy a comforting bowl of ramen. Overall, a fantastic spot for authentic tonkotsu ramen and delicious Japanese comfort food. I'd happily return whenever I'm craving a rich bowl of ramen.

My only real complaint was the seating arrangement. My wife and I were seated at a shared counter-style table that was divided by a glass partition. While the partition provided some separation, I could still clearly see the people sitting directly across from us, along with all the eating noises and conversations. I personally prefer a little more privacy while dining, so that took away from the experience. I won't comment on the wait time because that's pretty normal for popular restaurants in San Francisco. The highlight of the meal was definitely the A5 Wagyu Ramen. It was absolutely delicious and worth ordering. The flavors were amazing, and I would highly recommend it to anyone visiting. Overall, the food was outstanding, and despite the seating arrangement, I would gladly return.

The wait for a table was 20 mins or we can share a large table with random people and be seated immediately. We were hungry. We went with the large shared table. Pleasantly, there was more than enough room. There were at least 1-2 seats in between the three groups on each side that were there- a solo diner, a small family of 3, and my group of 4. I ordered the Karaka Spicy, my bf ordered Akamaru Modern, his sister ordered Miso, and I don't remember what her friend got- I think it was also Karaka spicy. My bf and I ordered the Treasure plate on the side to share and a side of spicy paste because I know Japanese spicy is barely spicy (from someone who grew up eating SEA spicy). Karaka Spicy had a nicely balance tonkotsu mouth feel and pork flavor. Broth was a little salty. I was correct to assume that it wasn't spicy because I used half of the side of spicy paste and I still didn't think it was spicy enough. Chashu was cooked fine. Notes: - I wished I would've asked if they could swap the thin noodles for the thick ones. I love the chew thicker noodles provide. - Noodles were cooked al dente. Akamaru Modern tasted very similar to Karaka spicy without the spicy. My bf used the other half of the spicy paste as dip for his toppings. He enjoyed it. Miso was a lighter broth (obvi) with a good umami flavor and was not watered down. Solid. She loved it. I have never seen her finish a whole bowl of ramen before. There was a server in training that took our order with the help of the trainer- he did great. Staff was attentive with our waters. Bussers were also quick to notice and remove empty plates and bowls regularly making for an easy clean up after we leave and kept the shared table clutter free. Interior was modern, but casual. They had an expansive menu with vegetarian choices, sushi, buns, karage, etc. and a surprisingly large array of alcohol. I would def like to be back to try some drinks.

The ramen is served in large bowls, which looks impressive at first, but the actual portion of noodles and toppings felt underwhelming for the price. At that price point, I expected more both in quantity and flavor. We ordered the Dragon Tantan ramen, which the menu describes as spicy. It wasn't spicy at all. We asked our waiter if we could have a little more heat, and he nodded and brought over a tiny dipping-bowl-sized portion of some red paste with no explanation. There was no mention that it would cost extra. After finishing our meal, we were surprised to see a $5 charge on the bill for the "extra spice." We genuinely thought it was complimentary, and if it wasn't, that absolutely should have been communicated before serving it. The lack of transparency was disappointing and unnecessary. Overall: mid food, mid service, and not worth the price -- especially during such an exciting weekend in the city. Unfortunately, we won't be coming back.
