My wife is raving about this place. She can't get over the butterfish she ordered and I'm afraid I have created a monster. My wife and I go out to eat everyday! Japanese food is never cheap. So it's not an everyday stop, but my wife would like it to be. Okay, this place is in ward village and facing the road. The service was friendly and quick. I loved the hot tea cups. I thought about buying them. It had the names of the sushi in Japanese and English. So I learned a few words as I enjoyed my tea. The rice was moist and hot. Our food was made perfect. My wife said, "exactly how I imagined it would taste, is exactly how it tasted." So she has been asking to eat there again, like everyday. We will go back again soon. My food was done very well too. As I would expect at any Japanese restaurant. I enjoyed the personally of our server whom I believe was also cooking or helping cook the food. The bus boy was odd and I asked quickly if he was my server. I would have had another experience if he was the server. But all in all, great service and Delicious food. Service is impeccable, I have a sesame allergy and the manager/owner always goes above and beyond to make sure I am safe eating there. Price is ultra reasonable, especially when you consider the food quality is always top notch. Been here well over 20 times in the last few years and never had a bad experience. Did I go to the right Ginza?? Don't know how people experienced such great service. One thing I could agree on was the food. Food was pretty great, good quality, fresh tasting ingredients... too bad the service was so slow. Took over two hours for me to receive, eat, and check out for only one spicy tuna bowl! Two tables of four came and left before we even got our food. Was seated right away. A male server asked if I wanted water, I said yes. Didn't take drink orders. Another server came by and asked for drink orders. My friends ordered drinks, took a few minutes to receive them, then server doesn't even ask for food orders or if we even had questions. We were all ready to order, but instead she left and didn't return. So we asked the man who gave us water and he said he couldn't take food orders, only drink orders. That's fine, maybe he was only a busser. But he also didn't let the server know we were ready to order so she didn't return. Finally with everything done, food comes out and they get my order wrong. Put the natto on my order when my friend asked for it. Waiter apologized and was going to take both of our meals back to correct it. I just told her that it was fine and scraped it onto my friend's bowl. Didn't bring out a couple of my friend's roles either, but we thought maybe they're making it. Wrong. Never came out, but appeared on the bill. I was super surprised cause she was kind enough to REREAD our order back to us perfectly. That was the last we saw of her. She nor any staff ever went to check up on us. We had to practically beg for shoyu dishes twice! Already fed up with the situation, we had to search for a server to grab our bill. Amazing! Boyfriend and I visited Hawaii for a week. For few days, we both were struggling to find good places to eat. On the third day, we decided to eat one of our comfort foods, sushi. We found Ginza sushi on New Year's Day and decided to try it out the following day when they were open. First and foremost, the customer service is wonderful. We had placed our order through grub hub and the owner I assumed called us back and let us know that the prices were a bit higher on that app. He said he will cancel that online order and charge us in stores instead. We ordered the salmon lover, spider roll, and the Ginza roll. Overall they were delicious! This is my extended take on them: Salmon lover: salmon was fresh, buttery, and tender. The rice with the maki and nigiri had a great bite. Spider roll: soft-shell crab was crispy, the eel had an interesting taste to it, but overall it was fairly good. Not the best spider roll I've had. Ginza roll: I think it is their most expensive roll, but it tastes awesome! It's like a shrimp tempura roll with spicy ahi poke on top. The tempura and poke were bomb af! The service we got was kinda mixed. There were two guys waiting tables. One person was very friendly and continuously checked on every table. The other guy was very quiet and didn't seem like he wanted to help anyone. The other downside to our visit was the pace of which the food came out. It took a long time for anything to come out. We are big sushi fanatics and have tried many places around town but none of them have stood out quite like Ginza does. We've been here a few times now and haven't had anything less than a great experience. The staff is always super friendly and attentive. There's always people here so there may be a wait time depending on what time you go but we've found that 6-7pm is the sweet spot. Last time we were told a long wait time and ended up getting seated within 15 minutes. If there is a long wait, it's worth it!! We normally try to get something new each time we go. This time around we got the Fried Gyoza to start. Last time we got the Scallop Butteryaki, which I wish we had ordered again this time because it was so good! For rolls we love the Po Malia and the Captain Crunch, but decided to try the Segway this time. We also got the Tuna Avocado and Salmon Avocado Maki. We both decided that the Segway was our favorite roll we've had here so far. For dessert we got the Tempura Ice cream which ended the meal off on a good note. The food is so delish and alone earns 4 stars but the 5th star is for the awesome service and experience provided by the owner! I've been here several times before and I usually get the mixed chirashi (omg people it's a must-try), but this time I opted for the lunch nigiri set (miso soup, salad, maguro, salmon, ebi, ika and 4 pieces of California maki) and the bomb maki. Read below for a detailed review of each component. Shoyu: You're probably thinking, "Really? You're gonna review the Shoyu?" Yes. And I'll tell you why. It's cuz the Shoyu they use is darker and thicker than other sushi places I've gone to. It was simply top notch, imho. Found out they use Shirakiku brand. Miso soup: I prefer my miso soup to be a little more savory but it was still nice to have hot soup on a chilly afternoon. Salad: The dressing is LEGIT! It's a ginger dressing that they make in-house. The owner came by to explain what was in it. I won't give away any secrets but I recommend you try and feel free to ask about it. He's very proud of it, and he should be! Nigiri: All very tasty and fresh! California maki: Pretty standard but still very nom nom Bomb: Kaboom people! This sushi was a flavor explosion of spicy awesomeness. I honestly have no idea what was in the sushi, but on the sides there was some kind of puffed rice thing which added great texture. It was topped with spicy ahi and spicy tobiko, both of which were the perfect level of spicy for me...enough to feel the heat but not overpowering. Service: Our server was very friendly. Came by frequently to check in on us and refill our waters. Ambiance: Very chill. Nice place to have a quiet meal alone (which I've done before - very relaxing) or meet up with a friend to catch up. It is a smaller establishment so I wouldn't recommend more than 4 people in your party. Overall experience: I must maintain that what truly made this particular visit so memorable was the owner coming out and chatting with us about the dressing. Arrived around 1:40 PM on a Monday and parked in the mall parking garage that's right behind the restaurant. It was free but I had to go up a couple of levels before finding any spots. At the restaurant, there were a few customers inside but plenty of seats still available. There were also four tables out front. I chose to sit outside. This is considered takeout, so I ordered at the counter. The staff still brings the food out to you and collects the plates when you're done. I ordered the Ginza Special and got the free gyoza with Yelp check-in. Service was fast. The food came out in about 10 minutes. I'm not sure if the gyoza was cooked in a very traditional style but it was the best I've ever had. Better than in Japan. The order only comes with three, but they were so crispy that it was crackling when you bite into it. It was also clearly freshly fried because it was piping hot too. The tempura in the sushi rolls were also very crunchy. It's safe to say this place knows how to deep fry things. I'd also never had sushi rolls with poke put on top. Clearly a Hawaiian thing and I'm a fan. It really kicks the flavor up a notch. I usually dip my sushi in a soy sauce / wasabi mix but you could take it or leave it with this roll.
