After a long day of traveling, we were so excited to finally be in Chicago and couldn't wait to try authentic deep-dish pizza. We chose Giordano's, and unfortunately, the experience didn't quite live up to the hype. When we walked in, the restaurant gave us more of a Pizza Hut vibe than the iconic Chicago pizzeria we were expecting. It was packed, but we were seated in an area that apparently didn't have any waitstaff assigned. After waiting quite a while (and getting pretty hangry!), I finally went looking for someone to help us, which is something I almost never do. Thankfully, the server from the table next to us was incredibly kind and took care of us until our actual waitress arrived--about 45 minutes after we had been seated. We really appreciated his willingness to step in. The pizza itself took about 50 minutes to come out, which we expected since deep-dish takes time to bake. Once it arrived, it was hot, filling, and the cheese pulls were everything you'd hope for. The pizza was definitely good. Overall, while the food was enjoyable, the service and atmosphere didn't match the experience we were hoping for. I'd probably try another Chicago deep-dish spot before coming back.
We went to Giordano's in Chicago and ordered the deep dish pizza. We were really excited to try an iconic Chicago spot, but the experience was pretty disappointing. It took about 45 minutes for the pizza to come out, which we expected given deep dish, but when it finally arrived it wasn't even warm. The whole thing felt like it had been sitting out or didn't finish cooking evenly. The bruschetta was fine but nothing special. Service was fine and the restaurant itself has a nice casual, tourist-friendly vibe, but the food just didn't live up to the reputation for us this time. Maybe it was an off day, but for something that's supposed to be a Chicago staple, it missed the mark. Not sure I'd go back, especially with so many other pizza options in the city.
I knew getting a table here on a Saturday evening was going to be nearly impossible, but I still wanted to try their famous pizza. Instead of waiting, I placed an online order for pickup, and the whole process was quick and easy. Finding the entrance was a little confusing at first. They have a beautiful outdoor patio in addition to a large indoor dining area, so it took me a minute to figure out where to go. Thankfully, they have a separate counter just for pickup orders, which made things really convenient. I ordered the fresh spinach tavern-style pizza, and it was absolutely delicious. I'm really glad I decided to do pickup because when I got there, there were still plenty of people waiting to be seated. If you're craving their pizza but don't want to spend hours in line, I'd definitely recommend going the pickup route.
Unlike other famous deep dish pizza restaurants downtown, this one didn't have a wait! We were seated promptly, helped promptly, and our pizza came out earlier than expected. It was fresh and filling. The ambiance of this restaurant is fun and casual. This was a great place to bring an out of town visitor!
A must do Chicago experience. There was a line down the block so I knew I was in the right place. Pretty efficiently ran though. The pizza takes the lingers to cook so first you queue at the door and order your pizza, you wait to be seated then you can order drinks, apps etc. We ended up sitting at the bar. They have a ton of yummy drinks and friend bar staff. We had the calamari which include fried banana peppers and fried lemon. I'm spoiled and now this will be the only way u eat it. lol. They have a solid Caesar salad. The icing on the top was our deep dish with sausage, peppers onions and an insane amount of cheese surrounded by a buttery crust. You can get a personal one if you are solo. It's a must try! Yum! Check out the cheese pull!!!
Came here to try deep dish because it's a Chicago staple. I expected a tourist trap but the overall experience left much to be desired. We started by ordering the wings and a pizza with sausage, peppers and onions. We knew the pizza takes 45 minutes so also ordered the wings and asked for them extra crispy. They took forever to arrive and when they did they were clearly not freshly made. I'm talking the frozen wings from Costco heated up in a microwave. Not only were they not extra crispy they weren't even warm. If my kids weren't starving I would have sent them back they were that bad. And I NEVER send things back. They were also $20 for 10! Unreal. The pizza itself was pretty good so if you're going to come here, stick to that. But our experience was also soured by the terrible service we received. The waitress dropped our wings and we literally never saw her again. We didn't get fresh plates for our pizza after another server brought it to the table so we had to eat it off the plate with the chicken bones. She didn't serve any of the slices to us. She never asked us if the food was ok, we never got a refill on our sodas, never got an extra napkin, nothing. When I say she never came back, she literally never came back. We finally had to flag someone else so we could get our leftovers boxed and the check so we could leave. I have never in my life complained to a manager at a restaurant and didn't today, but I was tempted for the first time ever, the service sucked that bad. I think we just got unlucky on the server front, but overall there are way better places to eat in the city. If you absolutely have to have Giordanos because you're in the city then I guess? But you could skip it and not miss out on much.
I went to Giordano's for a chill late-night dinner with a group of friends. Note that, signs indicate to only enter this location from the curbside, as the pretty patio-side in the plaza area is not an entry. So, from the curbside entry, there is a waiting room with benches on the left and right side, and a greeting desk ahead in the center. When called, we ascended on the far left and entered the dining area. It was quite busy. We were shown a table and took our seats. We chose a classic deep dish pie and a gluten free pizza - all to share. We also ordered an Italian salad to share. Highly recommend the Italian salad. It is a chopped salad and highly flavorful and fresh. This is the first item delivered to our table. They offer a thin 12 inch GF crust, and we always try GF when available. The menu indicated that several sauces are GF. I can happily report that the pizza was quite enjoyable. The toppings were fresh and generous. The edges were crisp but the rest was soft while also not getting too mushy. The deep dish was the final food arrival at our table. The menu and waitstaff are clear about it taking around 40 minutes for the deep dish to cook. The wait was totally worth it. Also note, the 10 inch may sound small, but it's unlikely that many people would want to eat more than two slices of this at a sitting - the slices are like two inches thick! Because we had already shared salad and GF pizza - we had a lot of leftovers. Totally worth it. Now, the one hitch here - the womens restroom was beyond atrocious. I mean, diapers, pads, paper, and debris piled up and overflowing from every tiny trash bin in every stall - Add to that non- flushed messes and more mess on the fixtures and floors - And an empty paper towel dispenser. Frankly, they need a big trash barrel in there- the volume of diapers alone was too large for the available recepticals. Clearly, many menstruating folks are trying to dispose of used products, and if the teeny tiny stall mounted trash pockets are stuffed with diapers and other used items... Well. Reader, you likely see where the his is going... I cannot even fathom the reason for the rest of the mess. So, restroom hard no. Generally - if you have a business that encounters a large number of stroller folks- expect related mess and account for it. Especially in busy Chicago where strollers are obnoxiously present everywhere - just read the room!
Giordano's never disappoints. I ordered ahead of time to pick up right when they opened, and the process was very easy. They also gave me plates, napkins, and cutlery, already to go in a bag. It was easy to take it with me to eat while exploring Chicago. The pizza itself was delicious as always. I honestly forgot how good the crust was, because the cheese always steals the show. It's such a savory treat. This location also had plenty of merch and a modern atmosphere touting its famous deep dish pizza.
The embodiment of all my pizza dreams live here at Giordanos. A great overall experience! Great service, beautiful restaurant, and delicious food. The house salad was so, so refreshing! Fresh crunchy salad with delicious cheese, locally sourced. The tavern style pizza was my favorite; plenty of toppings, perfect crunch, perfect amount of cheese. I also loved that the pizza was cut into squares; perfect for sharing. We opted to also try the deep dish and took the advice of many YouTubers and got the INDIVIDUAL sized "all the meats". It was a bit salty for my taste but it was good overall. The crust was nice and crispy, lots of cheese for the cheese lover in me. Definitely would be better if I had created a custom pizza with some veggies to balance. Our servers and front desk host were both lovely ab had great vibes. Would definitely be back for the tavern pizza and salad when I come back to Chicago.
We walked in and had no wait. My daughter and I were walking around Navy Pier and decided we'd like to split a deep dish pizza. We ordered a personal pan cheese deep dish. Deep dish takes 45 mins. We also ordered the Italian beef stuffed ball appetizer. Our waiter was fantastic. Very efficient with our drinks and letting us know our pizza would out shortly. It was very cute inside and quiet enough to have a conversation.
Walking in, the restaurant was full - that's always a good sign for us. Our sever was friendly and knowledgable. We ordered pasta bolognese and a pizza. Both were very, very tasty. Our server did make sure to let us know the deep dish style pizza takes longer to cook - which I appreciated. The ambiance was perfect for a pizza place. We sat next to a window but didn't have to worry about the cold thanks to the floor heaters.
Stopped by Giordano's as our first meal after landing, and we definitely went all in We loaded this deep dish with so many extra toppings, and wow... this pizza was THICK thick. Like, one slice and you're already questioning your life choices (in a good way lol). The crust was buttery and sturdy, holding everything together, and the sauce on top had that classic rich flavor. Not gonna lie though--no cheese pull moment here but honestly, it didn't even matter because it was still super satisfying. This was meant for two of us and we only managed ONE slice each before tapping out. Ended up giving the rest away because there was just no way we could finish it. If you're hungry (or think you are), this will humble you real quick
Got the boneless chicken nuggets as an appetizer first, and they were the most lifeless looking nuggets I have ever seen. The buffalo sauce looked more like food dye than actual sauce. After one bite, the nuggets had to be sent back. Then tried the fettuccine alfredo, which was also terrible. The sauce barely stuck to the noodles and overall it was pretty bad. Expectations were not even high going into this place, just expecting fast food vibes, but honestly starvation would have been better. Proceeded to try the deep dish since that is what they are known for, and once again it was not a hit. I am glad only a personal pie was ordered so it did not feel like a complete waste of food.
Prior to running the Chicago Marathon, my friend and I stopped in here to get a couple of personal sized deep dish pizzas for lunch on a Saturday afternoon. My friend ordered the Chicago Classic and I ordered The Special. The only thing different between the 2 was that his was with pepperoni and mine was with sausage. Service was fantastic. Our particular waiter was really friendly and always stopped by to check if we needed anything. The pizzas here were good, but we both preferred pizzas from Lou Malnati's. It looked like we had just beaten the lunch rush as there was a long line of people waiting to be seated as we were leaving. read more

I'm not big on pizza, especially Chicago deep dish style, but when in Rome... I've been to Lou Malnati's before and I like them better. Either one is ok and basically serve the same thing so it's hard to tell. However, my salad had freezer burns and was wilted. A coworker also had the same and hers was in worse shape than mine. The pizza was good, I won't lie about that. But was it GREAT?! It is worth the long waits and high prices?! Not at all. Came here to try the coveted deep dish since so many people recommended this spot over other popular options. Stopped by around 11 am on a Friday. I knew it would be busy and I expected a wait, but I didn't expect the line to practically be out the door. I could barely even push through the crowd that was waiting near the podium. The wait was already going on 2 hours. Yikes! It wasn't that serious for me. So, I decided on plan B; the bar. But even the bar had a wait. Since I was already there, I decided to wait for a seat at the bar. About 30 minutes later, I was able to snag a seat. I knew that the service would be slow given how busy it was, so I am going to give the bartender the benefit of the doubt on that. But I'll be honest; not only was the service incredibly slow, it was also inattentive. Not sure if they were short staffed because I saw at least 3 bartenders at the bar, but the dude who was "helping me" didn't come around unless I flagged him down. Literally had to flag him down for every single thing. Not once did he check on me and he took foreverrr to bring my check while several people were damn near breathing down my neck, waiting for a seat. It was so uncomfortable and extremely disappointing. I ordered an individual deep dish, Caesar salad, tomato soup, and a Stella. First off, you should be clear about what size drink that you want and make sure that they hear you. I stated that I wanted a 16 oz, but the bartender poured me a 23 oz and left the bar before I could even say anything. Because of how busy it was and how hard it was to even get his attention, I just let it slide and drank it. My salad came out first and it was good. Nothing special, but a solid Caesar. I waited and waited for my tomato soup until I finally asked the bartender where it was. "Oh, it should be out shortly" he says. And then I see him rush to the register to ring it up under my tab. He clearly forgot about it. About 5 minutes later, it comes out. It was decent but nothing to write home about. So, another thing that I should warn you about; if you're ordering a deep dish, be prepared to wait a while to receive it. And if it's busy, you should REALLY be prepared. I actually thought that he had forgotten about that too, but he told me that the deep dish pizzas usually take a while to prepare. 30 minutes later, it finally arrives. It certainly looked the part, but this definitely wasn't the best that I've ever had. So, let me break it down for you right quick. The crust was so dry and hard. It was like they left it in the oven for too long. I was lightweight struggling to cut it with a knife. The sauce tasted like stewed tomatoes. It definitely could have used more herbs, spices, and maybe even some more blending. The cheesiness was perfect, and thank goodness for that because otherwise I would have been truly pissed. Even with all of that, the pizza was still good. It's funny because there's this "Chicago" style pizza place called Zachary's that I go to pretty regularly back home in California. I can tell that they get their Inspiration from Giordano's. It's almost the exact same structure but the sauce tastes worst at Zachary's. Malnati's kind of spoiled me with their buttery crust and amazing pizza sauce. I hate to compare the two, but when it comes to Chi-town pizza, it's only natural to do so. In any event, Giordano's fell flat for me. The poor service would easily make me rate them 2 stars, but since the pizza was good, I'm going to rate them a solid 3. With so many other options in the city for great deep dish pizza, I don't know if I'd be rushing to come back here again though. read more

For my birthday we visited Chicago for my gift. Chicago deep dish pizza!!!! And yes!! It was an incredible. You can Build your own or select one from the menu. The cheese was fresh and super cheesy. The sauce has a delicious herb seasoning and lastly the crust buttery thick the pizzas highlight. Our server was friendly and professional, Matt? I think. We learned convincing that buying a bottle of wine instead of a glass each was economical. Surprisingly enough we were able to bring the bottle with us if we didn't finish it. The chicken Parmesan sandwich was flavorful accompany with Parmesan fries. The tavern style pizza is similar to the deep dish pizza not as thick, but same butter cross in season marinara sauce the Italian beef was pretty good. I heard other restaurants that serve better Italian beef sandwiches. The classic Italian style restaurant with a bar fills quickly. It's has great upstairs and downstairs seating. I'm truly a sucker for deep dish pizza and made it a point to try several spots when I was in Chicago with my girls years ago. Giordano's is one of the 2 (Lou Malnati's is the other) biggest Chicago deep dish chains that's been around since 1974 with over 50 locations nationwide. I remember the crust being huge and buttery, lots of fresh zesty tomato sauce and the cheesiness was very satisfying. It was pretty good but the crust did get a smidge soggy. Staff and service were pretty good also and there were a ton of diners- no surprise. Overall, great to try for first-timers but I'm sure locals have their mom and pop faves! read more

Last time I came to Chicago I tried deep dish from a different restaurant, so I figured it was time to give this place a shot. The pizza is HEAVY. We ordered the small and it felt like a BRICK when we went to pick it up, haha. At least you know you're getting your money's worth! We ordered online and went to go pick up our pizza. The place was PACKED and super busy but picking up our food was super easy. We took it back to the hotel to eat. We got the buffalo/bbq wings, fries, Chicago deep dish (pepperoni, sausage, peppers, onions, mushrooms) and a skillet cookie with ice cream and fudge. Honestly, my favorite was the cookie! It was perfectly baked and so yummy. The pizza and wings were ok! Not the best I ever had but honestly still decent! It came with a ton of food, a huge side of ranch, and was so cheesy. read more

So we made the rookie mistake of coming here in a rush. We were dying to try some Chicago Deep Dish, however we didn't have the time to wait a 45-Minute Baking time necessary. So we opted for the Ultra-Thin Crust Cheese Pie. This is definitely something I would pass on as it was nothing special. The sauce was okay, as well as the crust. The cheesy garlic bread was super good! I would definitely return, giving myself enough time to actually try that Deep Dish! read more

My hubby and I are not pizza people, but we decide to try Chicago deep dish pizza just once in our lifetime. First time they said it would take 45mins. I love Giordano's deep dish pizza . We went on a Friday night around 5pm but it was already getting busy. Fortunately we were able to get a table quickly. We ordered a deep dish cheese pizza with garlic and a deep dish pizza with sausage and onion. The garlic on the pizza was a bit hard, maybe because it was on top and was toasted. Both pizzas were good although I think they could have cooked them a bit longer, so the cheese pull wasn't as melty and stretchy as usual. We ordered a couple of tiramisu as appetizers. And the cheesy garlic bread, which isn't as good as the pizza or tiramisu. The service was attentive and great. They were busy but still did a great job with the service and food! read more

All is not lost, there is hope for Chicago style pizza and I think I have found it! Note: I am by no means a Chicago style pizza connoisseur. It is not my pizza style preference, and since I do not live in Chicago, my basis is fairly minimal. I had the deep dish meat pie and it is great. Nice buttery crust, good meats, excellent cheese, it all tastes great and heavy. Get yourself some orange juice to help wash the palate. Do not order anything else other than a drink and a pizza. It takes approximately 45-60 minutes to bake one of these bad boys, but if you are willing to wait for it, it is worth the wait. Eat this slow or you will have stomach problems later. I am happy to have eaten this and recompensed myself out of a bad pizza in Lou Malnati's. This is what I wanted when I came to Chicago, and indeed they delivered. read more

I want to start by saying, the pizza is good! However, it is definitely "tourist pizza". I've been told there are better local places to try a typical Chicago style pizza. The lines are outrageous! You wait in a line down the street just to put your name on the list. THEN they send you to another line to place your order because the pizzas take 45 mins to cook......then you wait for them to text you that your table is ready. I understand the concept of ordering ahead of time that way the pizza is ready when you're seated but oh so strange. I made the mistake of ordered the small which was probably for a 5 year old. All that wait and I was still hungry after I ate my pizza. Heavy sigh! Service was decent, it's so busy and crowded that it's easy to get forgotten. Overall, I would not come again. As a New York guy nothings can beat New York style Pizza so let's get that said up front. And I've tried Chicago style pizza in the past so I've never been a big fan of it. However, I kept hearing good reviews about this place and wanted my young son to experience the taste of Chicago style. So we went to this location and the food was really good, way better than expected. The atmosphere was pretty hectic and loud so be prepared for that. The deep dish also takes 40-45 minutes to make so be prepared to wait. However, I would say it was worth the wait. Very tasty red sauce, cheesy and thick pizza with a soft/crispy side crust and crispy bottom layer crust. The service was excellent too. Friendly staff from the entry to the table. The one and only, deep-dish destination! Don't bat an eye to visit here. Tradition Chicago deep dish pizza all the way, from where it all started. Cheese-it-up baby. Loved my experience visiting Giordano's for the third time! Tips: Pre-order your pizza or be ready to wait for 45mins for your order to get prepared. If you wanna visit the millennium park and then eat here, then put in your name before visiting the park and avoiding for your name to be called. If you get the small sized pizza for a party of two then you are definitely not gonna eat up more than two slices and waste the remaining. I would recommend ordering an individual sized pizza unless your party is large. I love them for being juicy , cheesy and hot out of the oven. Ask your waiter to demo the cheese it up, it's fun! read more

I had a mai tai and mango chili margarita, didn't really taste any alcohol but the appetizer sampler & The Cobb Salad was good not sure if it was because we was hungry. The deep dish pizza I thought was a lil dry & the thin crust was sub par. The place was so crowded but I wanted to see what everyone was "talking" about when they recommended this place. The girls at the order to go looked annoyed, it was a freezing 20 degrees outside with the doors opening maybe that's why lol idk. I gotta say, I was really looking forward to trying my first deep dish pizza. However, I was pretty disappointed. It took just about an hour for the our pies to come out, and while I understand that it typically does take awhile longer for deep dish, we were originally quoted a 35-40min wait. And the end product was...mediocre. It was fun doing the cheese pulls, but the flavor was lacking. I hate to say, and this isn't particularly a bad thing either, but the flavor was reminiscent of a Costco supreme pizza. Overall, it was filling and got the job done, but it was certainly not worth the wait in my opinion. I will give deep dish another shot, but it'll most likely be at another restaurant. read more

Honestly I don't know what to rate this place. The workers were all very kind; they always seemed to be going as quickly as they could to get us our food. On the contrary because deep dish pizzas take a good thirty minutes to bake: we didn't get our deep dish pizza for forty five minutes(It was also extremely crowded). I also wasn't a big fan of deep dish pizza despite the pizza being a decently good quality(this place is known for having solid deep dish, especially their Chicago locations). Overall a good introductory experience to Chicagos deep dish pizza culture and some other solid Italian food. P.S. I will not be getting anymore deep dish pizza, New York style pizza is better. read more
Giordano's is about the Chicago deep dish experience rather than the food ! Something about warm gooey cheese on cold city nights with a crowd murmuring away in this bustling food joint. There is even a paparazzi moment where there are photographers clicking and printing real time pictures of you enjoying pizza. Was told this place was a must when visiting Chicago. Honestly....I don't get the hype. They had plenty of seating, but it was super packed. We waited about 20 minutes for our table, and on top of that we were told a deep dish would take about 30-40 to prepare. We ordered it anyways since it was highly recommended and also got the ultra thin crust. After waiting for our pizzas, it was just ok. They were lacking flavor and wasn't hitting like how a pizza should.... The deep dish was super cheesy, but I would not order it again. Holy moly y'all. This place made a pizza that touched my soul. Yes, the wait was long. Yes, the lobby was crowded. Yes, the service wasn't super fast because they were packed. But none of that matters after you take the first bite of their deep dish. Don't let the wait or the crowd scare you. Enjoy the experience for what it is! The first stop during our Chicago deep dish battle was Giordano's, which unlike the other places specializes in stuffed deep-dish pizza. We came here at around 11am when they opened and were seated immediately. They do not allow reservations but it's a big space with lots of outdoor seating and TVs. This particular location is close to Millennium Park and the Cloud Gate so it makes for a convenient lunch or dinner spot after sightseeing. There are three different sizes for their deep dish with their small feeding 2-3 people, medium feeding 3-4, and large feeding 4-6. We ordered the small Chicago classic ($24.75) which we were told was their most popular. Our server mentioned it would take about 45-60 minutes but it came out in about 35 minutes. I enjoyed the cheesiness of the pizza which was balanced by the mushrooms and the peppers. I didn't care too much about the crust; it didn't go well with the pizza and was pretty bland. I ended up not eating most of the crust which it seemed like most people were doing. We also ordered the Giordano's house salad ($10.25) which had the perfect amount of dressing; I really liked the cheese and the fennel. For drinks I ordered the windy city punch ($10.25) which was a little sweet from the pineapple juice and the peach schnapps and was tart from the citron lemon vodka. I was lucky that when we arrived we did not had to wait long to sit down as there was only two of us but we were attended right away but our server. He was very friendly and gave us some suggestions as it was our first time. We got the deep dish half cheese and pepperoni pizza, the waiter mentioned that usually it takes around 45 minutes to bring it out but since it was a busy day it could take up to an hour. We understood and ordered the cheesy bread which was satisfying and held us until we got the pizza. Once we got it, it was great. It had texture and flavor was there. They help serve it to you as the cheese oozes out and you need to cut it out with the spatula. As a cheese lover I was thrilled. The pizza was great and so was the service. Just keep in mind it's a known name and it can get really busy even during the week. read more

Very busy place the service was great and the server from the get go informed us that the deep dish style takes 45 minutes to make, which was pretty accurate. Place was very busy for a Wednesday, and very loud ambience. We got the cheesy bread, thin crust pepperoni and the meat lovers deep dish. The marinara that came with the bread was duh tomatoey but that's all it was, no other flavor but tomatoes. Honestly of our group I did not try the thin crust but it did smell sweet and appetizing. The deep dish was very good and the crust was very pastry like and flaky. Couldn't tell if the inner crust was underdone or just melted cheese, so possibly underdone. Great place for Chicago style pizza and fair service for a very very busy place. I would recommend calling in your order early and dine in. Do they do single slices?
they do not do single slices, all pizza you just order to be made. the smallest pie size is an individual which is 6". deep dish takes 45 minutes minimum to make and thing crust takes about 35 minutes minimum.
Do they leave the top portion of the stuffed crust pizza uncooked for a reason?
It's not uncooked, it is just the style of pizza. Normally, pizza has the sauce and then the cheese on top. With deep dish they put the cheese with the toppings and then they top it off with the pizza sauce.
Why oh why did you get Rid of the deep fried Mushrooms?
Was replaced by some other dish during last menu update.
