I loved the small bar feel of the space, and the staff were great. I ordered an individual Chicago topped with Italian beef and giardiniera peppers. If we're going to hurt people's feelings regarding "authentic" toppings, might as well lean in and skip the pepperoni entirely. The individual size was the right choice, though it was still a significant amount of food. The beef and peppers were excellent, and the crust had a nice crunch and solid flavor. The sauce was good, and while there was plenty of cheese, it wasn't the molten lake of cheese I feared. Hubs fears eating here because he always experiences severe heartburn when having Uno's deep dish pizza. I am usually good with most foods so he was a good sport. We made reservations just in case. We arrived on time for our reservation but still waited to be sat. There is actually no room to stand by the host stand while you wait to pick up or for a table to dine in. We were then sat by the front door, which sucked because the cold air blew by us every time someone opened the door. Our server took some time to greet us and of course we ordered a deep dish pizza, which takes about 30-45 minutes to cook so we ordered some drinks to keep us entertained. The ambiance was nice and old. I miss restaurants with that feel. However, there was not a lot of room to move around. Our pizza arrived and it was super hot. I believe the area is called "Near North Side" - I'm unsure of the parking situation as I walked to Uno from my hotel a few blocks away on Magnificent Mile. I believe this is the original Pizzeria Uno location - I've had Uno previously as there was a franchise location in Buckhead Atlanta years ago so very familiar with the style of pizza, which I've always preferred for deep dish. I figured I should visit this venerable location, actually within site of Pizzeria Due about a block away. The building is very old-school and unassuming, as you would expect for an establishment that has survived for so long - you walk into what looks to be a staging area for takeout so a couple of sets of doors to access a small dining area with a bar along one side - the interior is full of wood and once again old-school, comforting. I sidled up to the bar and looked over the menu deciding on a small deep dish sausage pizza with a starter salad. There's something about the way the sausage melts into the crust while the deep dish cooks that makes everything even better. The House Salad I received was a bit disappointing - really mostly iceberg lettuce piled up with the usual toppings (I should have opted for the version topped with Italian coldcuts - I just didn't think I could manage it and the pizza). I felt like it had way too many croutons (I left about half of them). Half the Deep Dish Sausage came out to me at the bar at about 30-35 minutes from ordering - I was asked if I wanted the rest or if it should be boxed up - I opted for the latter. Here in Chicago for work again and my manager and I love visiting this pizza spot. Love the salad and bread, which fills us up before the entrees arrive. Regardless, we both order spaghetti and meatballs PLUS a deep dish. Generous servings, reasonably priced, all a great value. Yes, can you tell we aim for leftovers to reheat in the hotel microwave? I love the refillable Diet Pepsi, which is kind of funny to have after all the food we tend to order;) The "historic" wooden decor and furnishings exude a kind of rustic feel, and do be careful not to bang your knee as you exit the booths, if you're in one. I first tried Uno's back in 2023 and loved it. When i left california to drive cross country last June (2025), Uno's was on the top of my chicago todo list. The pizza here is that good! Their iconic deep dish pizza is flavorful, crispy, and packed with ingredients. It's my favorite pizza in the world, and I've tried pizza from Detroit, new york, toronto. I particularly enjoy chicago deep dish pizza because it's not as popular around the US, it's a unique way to eat pizza and i prefer it this way since it's more satiating than traditional pizza. Both times i visited Uno's, i sat at the bar. There was no wait (since i was by myself), but the restaurant was packed regardless. The bartender, who i remembered back from my first visit, is a great guy. He's got great service and hospitality, and was able to get my order in promptly. The pizzas do take quite a while to come out (about half an hour), but they come out fresh and are well worth the wait. The ambiance is lively and fun, so this would be a cool spot to bring a group, but maybe a little overwhelming if you're on an intimate date haha Every time i come to chicago, i will be on a quest to eat at uno's. I would say this spot is 3.5 stars overall. I've been here twice, each time because friends/family from out of town wanted to try deep dish pizza. It's in an excellent location in River North and has a nice casual old school bar vibe. It's got a lot of history! It's the birthplace of deep dish pizza, so for that it's a cool place to try deep dish. Service is excellent and I appreciate they tell you up front that the pizza takes about 30-45 minutes to make once you put your order in. (I think our medium pizza took closer to 30.) The servers are friendly and check in just enough. There was also a photographer who came to each table and offered to take a complementary group photo. He came back at the end of our meal with the printed photo, which had a memorabilia vibe with some pizza and other images printed around our group photo. He also showed us the photo with a physical frame ($25) and one where they made us into cartoons (cute!!). We opted to keep the free photo without the frame. A nice touch to the overall ambience of the place, which is popular among tourists and out-of-towners! Among the 3 of us who were quite hungry, we ordered garlic bread (giardiniera) and a medium sized Numero Uno pizza. We finished the garlic bread and ate half the pizza (1 slice each). And we were so full! The pizza had nice flavor, with the sausage providing the saltiness and the tomato offerings a tanginess. The crust itself is very much like a pie crust. It's crumbly and crunchy and thick so takes some work with the knife. The garlic bread was good and I liked the kick of the giardiniera though it was more cheesy than I prefer. Overall the place is solid for its pizza. I definitely prefer it to the chain deep dish spots around the city. I like it's history, it's service, and general vibe. Deep dish at this landmark location is historic. Small wooden booths near the bar add to the charm. A pair of bathrooms awkwardly positioned in the center of the seating area. A small waiting area at the entrance. However, food wise, I would suggest there are plenty of other more appealing deep dish options. Since deep dish pizzas are large, dense, and contain plenty of energy, we opted to split a single individual sized one for lunch, the Numero Uno. It was a bit disappointing, lacking flavor yet having a very salty sausage base. I'd rate it above the disaster of a pizza place that opened in East Hanover, NJ which decided the best pizza doughs are those salted after the fact, with visible salt crystals on the perimeter. Thankfully that place didn't even survive for a week, since no patron should be marinated in such a salty ordeal. Anyways, this particular instance of deep dish delivered at Uno's would certainly rank at the bottom of deep dish pizzas I've ingested so far. This means my purchases of mail order frozen deep dish delivery, baked at home, are superior in flavor than this in restaurant rendition. Anyways, we also ordered some Buffalo cheese arancini since they were out of the others variants already. The accompanying sauces were very nice. The flavor was a pleasant fried bleu in eight crisp balls, with options of a contrasting marinara and ranch dressing for dip. As for the non-alcoholic New Fashioned, I would not bother. I guess for all of the hype around Chicago for its pizza I had high expectations. This was better than our try at Lou Malnati's as the crust was better but it was still blah. This was the original Pizzeria Uno so it was fun to visit, but it was very cramped inside as they try to fit as many guests as possible. The appetizer we got, the arancini they don't make in house and they were actually more expensive than the personal pizza but they let you know the pizzas tale anywhere from 25 to 45 minutes. I went there for the 11 o'clock opening on Wednesday to beat the crowd. The front door didn't even open until 11:15 AM. It didn't matter. The original deep dish pizza location! They offer vegan cheese and the crust is vegan too so you can try vegan deep dish! They also offer a personal size deep dish pizza which I could not find at many other places, which was really nice. It is very busy, when we came with a party of 2 around 3pm on a Saturday we were told it would be a 20 minute wait. The deep dish pizzas also take 45 minutes to cook, so they take your order with your name when you get put on the waitlist to reduce wait time after you sit down. Our table ended up being ready after just 7 minutes. We got seated in a pretty terrible location, it was a small table for 2 sort of in the middle of a walkway so people were walking past us constantly. Tables against the wall looked much nicer. Our table was also wobbly and shook aggressively when we tried to cut our pizza. Our server was a nice guy, and pizzas were delicious. The sauce was not even mixed in with the pasta and there was too much pasta and not enough sauce. The garlic bread tasted frozen with no flavor and we were both so disappointed and felt like this was a complete waste of money. Service: 2/5 - Our server came by once to get our order and give us water at the beginning. He did not give us our food and forgot to give us the side salad that comes with the pasta until we were finished with the meal. We asked another worker about this and her attitude was short and rude offering no help or assistance. We had to put our names down on a wait list to get in and even after seated, (after being on the wait list for 30 minutes), we had to wait another 30-40 minutes for stale tasting pizza and lukewarm tasteless pasta. Value: 1/5 - The taste and quality and service of this place does not warrant the pricepoint that this restaurant offers. The only "cool" thing about this place is the fact that it is the "birthplace" of chicago deep dish pizza, but everything about this place was the worst. I would not come back or recommend. Pizzeria Uno - the tomato sauce pasta :// - Pizza Near Me - Chicago, Illinois

We were on a vacation to Chicago and decided to stop for lunch at the (I checked, it is) birthplace of deep dish pizza, Pizzeria Uno. It was very busy and we had to wait 15 minutes or so to get seated. Before we sat to wait, they had already given us menus and we preordered our pizzas. We were in and out in an hour and a half and we're glad we went in the first place. The small, vintage place is very nice and clean and the food was delicious. Deep dish is very different from NY style, but it's still awesome food. Great place, very historic. Highly recommend read more
