Located downtown, there are a few parking spots on the street as well as several parking garages nearby. It's within easy walking distance from several motels. There is a large sign on the side of building. Entering from the street, there is a ramp down to the counter and seating area. Seating is mostly tables with a few stools at the counter. There is a sign above the counter on the right for takeout orders. The menu is simple. It's fried chicken. There are sides like slaw and baked beans with a few appetizers, but mostly it's chicken. Once our order was placed, it only took about ten minutes to get our food. One thing we noticed while waiting was the cook was checking the internal temperature of each piece of chicken as it came out of the fryer. This was very much appreciated and ensured every piece was cooked to perfection. Constant quality checks like that show they take their product seriously and do not rely only on a timer to tell them when it is done. All the chicken was crispy on the outside and moist and tender on the inside. While moist, the meat was not dripping with juices that ran down your arm or left a puddle on your plate. All the flavor was locked into the chicken. The baked beans were good, maybe nothing special but certainly a good accompaniment to the chicken. The slaw was also decent. The mac and cheese was good as well. One note of caution. The chicken seasoning is spicy. If you are used to large chain spicy versions, this is more than that. I visited this location a month a go and I am extremely disappointed with my experience. After dining at the restaurant,I accidentally left my phone behind. I called shortly afterward and was informed that an employee had found it and that it was being held at the restaurant. When I arrived about 10 minutes later to retrieve it, I was told that the phone was no longer there and had somehow gone missing. What made this situation even worse was the way the manager handled it. Instead of showing concern, taking responsibility, or making a genuine effort to help resolve the issue, he was dismissive, spoke to me in an unprofessional manner in front of other customers, and ultimately walked away while I was still trying to discuss what had happened. I understand that mistakes can happen, but losing an item that had already been found and acknowledged by staff is a serious issue. More importantly, the lack of accountability, empathy, and professionalism shown by management was unacceptable. No customer should be treated with disrespect, especially when trying to recover a valuable personal item. I hope the company reviews its lost-and-found procedures and provides better customer service training to its management team. While visiting Atlanta, I tried Gus's World Famous Fried Chicken, and it did not disappoint. The chicken was very flavorful and had an excellent crunch on the skin. Inside the restaurant, it was a very plain setup with the focus being on the food. The staff was very accommodating while taking orders for dine in or for takeout. Such a good location nearby downtown, and if you are staying at the Marriott... it's actually at the end of City Center Walk so technically you don't even have to get off property! 1st time trying Gus's was in Chicago so was happy to see it nearby lodging when here at ATL! Sitting in my Airbnb, I just yelped from fried chicken and gus's came up so I scooted on over and got lost in the hub immediately. Upstairs downstairs I don't know I got lost, but luckily there was a sign that pointed me in the right direction I got greeted as soon as I entered, and I sat at the bar area. I already knew what I wanted to order a three-piece dark and it came out about 20 minutes later piping hot crispy skin just a little spicy hot sauce to dab on there and finish it off with a hot slice of pecan pie. The sweet tea was good. The ambience was about. Would you expect for a fried chicken place? Lots of wood and bricks. It was pretty good fried chicken. What a great experience sitting at the bar for dinner. I was quickly greeted and got my drink order taken care of. I ordered a two piece white with slaw and greens. Awesome flavor! The staff let me sample the potato salad which was amazing. Was told the story about the lady that makes the pies and had a slice of pecan. Very good. For a place that boldly claims to have world-famous fried chicken in its name, I really expected to have a better experience. The chicken was alright, but I wouldn't say it was the best I ever had, let alone consider it the world's best. This joint is located in the lower hub, but I believe there's also an outside street entrance. Upon entering, we were told to sit anywhere. The interior is rather dim, and it wasn't super clean as there were still some crumbs on our table from the last people who dined there. There is also a very casual feel to the place, exemplified by the fact that food is served on styrofoam plates and paper trays. FOOD: 2-Piece Dark (Thigh & Leg) (4/5) - Chicken was nice and crispy, but nothing crazy special to me. I was expecting it to be spicier. Liked it more with the Louisiana hot sauce on the table. The chicken rests on a slab of white bread and is served with average slaw and sweet baked beans. Fried Okra (3.5/5) - First time having fried okra. Not bad, and I guess frying it eliminates the slimy texture associated with okra. SERVICE: I am not usually one to complain about service. The person who served us was sweet when we did interact, but it was so hard to get their attention to order and get the bill. But beyond that, the kitchen was noticeably SLOW. My brother and I literally only ordered one plate/portion to share since we wanted to try more places, but it took over half an hour to receive our food. They do emphasize that food is cooked to order, but I still found the wait to be baffling. TLDR// Come here or don't, but if you do, make sure you are not on a time crunch. The menu is pretty straightforward since you mainly order chicken here. They warn that everything is fried in peanut oil and the chicken is spicy. I got a two piece dark meat plate, which comes with a heap of coleslaw and typically beans but I upgraded to fries. I thought the chicken pieces were kind of small and they were not that spicy. A little heat but nothing really worth mentioning. The fries were good and seasoned. The coleslaw was really sweet which is unexpected and I didn't care for it. What brings this review up is the chocolate chess pie. Maybe this is a standard pie recipe but it was definitely my favorite part of the meal. I've eaten at other Gus's locations and this was easily one of the most disappointing experiences. First off service was way off. Arrived and sat at a table by the window. After 10 mins with no one dropping by we walked up and asked if we could order at the counter instead. They apologized and said there were only two servers. That's fine but at least say that up front instead of letting people sit wondering what's taking so long. They only brought one set of plastic ware to the table and said they would be right back with the other. That took another 7 mins before they showed up. The food was equally as disappointing. The Catfish special had absolutely no flavor. Just bland to the core. The chicken was okay. Crunchy on the outside and juicy inside but it too lacked much flavor. If the World consist of one country and one country only and with that country being the United States of America, then whoever Gus is, you definitely nailed your restaurant name. While I admire their aspiration, the fact that I and many others didn't even get to try their self proclaimed world famous chicken makes that lofty goal pretty impossible to attain. What I mean by that is their service and kitchen are so extremely slow that they are constantly turning customers away. On a trip to Atlanta, I visited the restaurant with a party of 5. We seated ourselves because the sign told us to do so. But for more than 20 minutes we were ignored. I had to grab menus myself and had the greatest difficulty flagging down a server. When I was finally able to flag someone down to take orders, they said the food will be a 40-60min wait. First impression of this place is horrible, floors are sticky and a part of the table was not properly cleaned off with chicken batter crumbs still present. The restaurant was quite busy when we arrived, but the lack of service and care is totally unforgivable. I heard from a friend after the fact, who came by the restaurant earlier that same evening, that the situation was similar at that point. At that point the restaurant was pretty empty, and they said the estimated food wait time was more or less the same as what we were told. We left right after without trying the chicken. And so did my friend who tried visiting earlier in the evening. World famous? Not quite. read more

I got the 2 piece white chicken, which had a delicious spice rub and a nice crunchy exterior, with a nice juicy interior. Having KFC chicken recently, I'm going to compare this to that. It isn't really fair. KFC is worse in every way. It's saltier, greasier, skin and meat is drier. My wife and I needed a warm snack during DragonCon and this place was not as buys as the food court upstairs. We got the 2 piece dark meat with large mac + cheese and some fries. Gu's is the best fast casual fried chicken. It's juicy, crisp, and flavorful without being too salty. It has a minor kick to it. The mac and cheese was creamy and cheesy. It too is also way better than KFC. I come here for the chicken though. I've had some of the sides at Gus's before and they never wow me. It's kind of like a lot of BBQ places to me also... Amazing BBQ but meh sides. The fries were seasoned well but didn't really stand out to me. The ambiance is very casual and hidden away from the crowd upstairs and the service was fast. Would I come here again? Yes but I'm not particularity loyal to this Gus's. There's two locations that are a little bit more convenient to me but if I was in downtown ATL and had a taste for fried chicken, this is the spot. read more

I stumbled upon this place while I was exploring downtown. It was a cozy (Little) restaurant with a bar. Everyone from the moment I stepped inside was so kind and inviting. I ended up taking food to go, and ordered the combo of the four leg pieces, and was allowed to switch out the sides, to mac and cheese and fries (the original order comes with baked beans and a cole slaw). I was doing takeout, and figured the menu was set. I wanted two legs and a breast, so I was ordering à la carte. The young lady at the register suggested I get the 3 plate combo, and they could substitute. I thought that was really nice, looking out for the customer's wallet. Nice service. The food.. Fries had the right amount of seasoning, potato salad was a strong mustard base, and the chicken had a nice crunch. I will say the chicken has a slight spice kick to it. They include crystals hot sauce, which in a weird way took the spice level down a bit. I ordered a drink as well, and it wasn't added to the bag.
