This review is for the Giovanni's in Cambridge Maryland. They took over the location of the old Pizza Zia right on route 50 in the middle of town. Wife and I decided to try this in the house so we would get a good representation of how good things were Fresh from the kitchen. We ordered an 8 inch steak sub and a large cheese pizza. We were especially pleased with the steak sub as there was a nice portion of steak and they gave us extra fried onions just as we requested. We also thought the sub roll was very good, more crust and less doughy inside. Overall taste was very good. I asked when we ordered the pizza if I needed to order extra cheese as we like our pizza on the cheesy side and we were told we did not have to and they were correct. Overall the pizza was pretty good with a nice compliment of cheese and a sauce that was quite tasty. My wife and I had different thoughts on the crust, she really liked it and I thought it was a little uneven and could've been on the thinner side. The restaurant itself presents very nicely and there are many tables and seating options to choose from. In my opinion, this is not the best pizza in town but it is certainly worthwhile trying and I think it's the kind of pizza that would hold up very well if you were doing takeout. Giovanni's has a very extensive menu and we will look forward to coming back and trying some of the other choices read more

Being from Philadelphia and well traveled I can be somewhat of a pizza snob, I have had some of the best in the world. I stopped in here for lunch while visiting a friend. The staff could have been a little friendlier, they were not nasty, just not friendly. I ordered a large pizza, half green pepper, onion and sausage and half pepperoni. It was not bad, I've had better but I also have had much worse. The pizza had a good amount of toppings and cheese and the sauce was good, the right amount. I enjoyed the pepperoni as it had a good taste to it. We asked for crushed red peppers on the side and the gentleman looked puzzled as if he didnt know what that was, after a short explanation he understood but tried putting then on the pizza for us, we said no, we want them on the side. He eventually figured it out but was annoyed. I guess where the pizza fell short was the crust which is the most important part. It was crispy and foldable as Philadelphians do with our pizza but it was dry, or had a dry taste. All in all it was ok and a good place to get a pizza when in a pinch but it would not be my first choice as I have had better pizza in the Preston area. read more

I gave this a 3/5 stars because before this experience .. it was 5 stars. so that is my OVERALL. this pickup order was placed on 8/14, and was called the next day. *i want to go into this saying that all i asked for was a REPLACEMENT; NOT a refund. and that i also knowwww that this seems small, but stuff like this has been happening over and over the past few months with my parents and im overrrr it* i hate to be this person, but im just angry because i had to get defensive and i hate being this person. but last night, from Giovanni's Pizza, i ordered disco fries and a 20pc wing; and i was excited bc this normally lasts me 2-3 days and costs around $30?? when i saw the 20 burnt wings (original night); i picked out THREEEE that were edible. to me it is horrid that i paid about $18 for THREEEE edible wings?? i wasn't THAT upset bc i figured i could just get new wings for the next night or a refund. but when i had called today; i was told "i have no way to help you, but my manager will give you a call". i let her know that i got off at 4pm and she needed to call me before then and i got a call at 3:51pm (luckily). i had to argue with the manager for about 5-10 min about what had happened. but her answer was "we cook all of our chicken to 'HEALTH DEPT STANDARDS' and is cooked at the same temperature every single time. and what i received was "legal from health dept standards and it is illegal to serve anything under". and then she says "i wish you had called last night, i may have been able to refund you. but now all i can really do, is give you a coupon or discount for your next order." i was, at this point, so fed up??? i said i understand cooking your chicken at a certain temperature, but what im saying is it was cooked too long; too long to even be edible. every single piece was black and charred. and i explained that. she further explained that she was only following the health dept rules, when she didn't even WANT TO SEE THE PICTURE OR THE WINGS THEMSELVES (and believe me i kept offering). it couldn't have been a possibility that your cook slipped up and left it in a couple minutes too long?? but she kept reiterating that she "could not help me," and "has nothing else to offer but a discount on the next order". * it was at this point that my (non aggressive) self really went off. i said "you don't make this right, RIGHT NOW, there will NOT be a NEXT order." and immediately she offered AN OPTION that wasn't discussed before. she said "well, if you specifically say we can "lightly cook them", then we can give you the wings for free. but that will be at your own risk" my own "risk" is normally cooked wings, and this is the picture from last night that they never even bothered to ask for. they gave me a fresh batch of wings tonight, which they told me were "undercooked" by health dept standards lmao. and they look perfect. i think someone didn't wanna admit to their rushing mistakes if you're gonna run a business, do it the honest way. no one's gonna respect someone who can't just admit someone slipped up. i never expected to have the argument i did with the manager and it really upset me. i hope no one else deals with this; but like always take pictures and ask questions?? i know this is long to be posting about wings but i guess the bigger picture im looking at is i placed a $30 order and $18 of it was completely ruined and i was not going to be compensated or have my wings replaced until i got NASTY. the world is a nasty place to have to make you get loud with someone just to get your fair moneys worth?? read more

OK, so here's the deal.....I grew up in southeast Ohio, and there's a mom & pop shop there also called Giovanni's. My sister was visiting several years ago, we went to OC and drove past this place and we've been curious about it since but I never stopped in. So when my niece was out visiting and we happened to be in the area, we made it a point to stop AND text my sister to rub it in her face. Because we're petty like that. I had cheese pizza, my niece had pepperoni. Both were OK, and the prices were really reasonable for pizza by the slice. If I'm in the area again, it would be worth stopping in if I'm just craving pizza. read more

We have been ordering from Giovanni's for years because it's one of the only places we think have decent sandwiches that delivers. Our experience has dramatically improved over the last year. I can say that I highly recommend the hot subs and sandwiches without reservation. One of the changes seems to be in the tomatoes they use for their Sugo and marinara sauce. It's much less salty and not sweet. Big plus as far as I'm concerned. Here's my list of can't go wrong sandwiches. Burger Cheeseburger Fish sandwich (no tarter sauce, so order with mayo & pickles) Grilled ham & cheese Any of the parm subs, my personal favorite is the chicken. I cook and it's as good as mine. I like to order one so I have leftover. The next day the flavor is outstanding. I don't recommend any of the pizza unless you order the think crust. The rest is too breadth for me and I don't care for that. I particularly like the pepperoni with pineapple. I know, I know, all you purists out there will bag on me for that! But, the pepperoni they use is a little sharp and the contrast of sweetness is pretty good. I recommend you get it well done so that the pepperoni curls a little and the pineapple gets slightly crispy. You might also try the soups. I really like the chicken noodle, it's made daily. Very, very good. Hope they keep it up. The quality of the cooking has dramatically increased over the last year and it shows. It's our go to delivery place in Easton. read more

We stopped there last Sunday on our way back to DC because my bro-in-law said it was a good place to get an Italian sub------I begged to differ. My kids got an Italian cold cut and a sausage parmigiana sub...........the sausage sub literally fell apart when my son lifted to eat and had to use a fork for it, he said it was nasty. It was the sloppiest sub I have seen in my life. My daughter's Italian sub was dry as a heck, she said it was nasty too. What really got my stomach churning was the nasty bathrooms-----my kids went to the bathroom while I place their order and I went to check on them I couldn't believe how dirty the toilet was (looks like it hadn't been clean in forever). That was really a turn off for me because I'm wondering just how clean the restaurant was. Whelp, my family and I agree that Wawa works better for us from here on out. I get delivery from Giovanni's regularly and have very few complaints. There are a few similar restaurants that will deliver to me, and Giovanni's has the largest selection of foods done well of the group. Some others have had issues with consistency, like overcooking or leaving things out of the order. Those have been few and far between from Gionvanni's. Some of my favorites there are stuffed shells, steak stromboli, clam strips and waffle fries. read more

I've only ever ordered from this place in a pinch or when I didn't feel like cooking. I ALWAYS tip well, even when they're an hour+ past the estimated delivery time, which is always. The food is mediocre at best. The customer service from the little girl that answers the phone all the way down to the owner, is unprofessional! I have been going to Giovanni for years. Sometimes they have great customer service, other times not so great. They do however have great cheese steaks. I went to school in Philadelphia and usually do not get cheese steaks outside of philly, but giovanni is one of my exceptions ! I haven't eaten in Giovanni's but have ordered delivery or stopped by to pick up. Therefore, I can't speak to the ambience or cleanliness. However, the delivered food has always been pretty good. This was probably the worst pizza I've ever eaten. I spent around $25 for a cheese pizza and a salad. The pizza tastes like a Little Ceasars hot n ready. I was EXTREMELY disappointed. But the last time we ordered my chicken BUFFALO cheesesteak didn't have any buffalo sauce on it. But we decided to give it one more try. When the delivery came my boyfriend checked the food to make sure everything was right and the driver got an attitude with him! Then we called the restaurant and they were rude and unhelpful! My girlfriend and I order from Giovanni's all the time. Partly due to our busy lives and there are not many other delivery joints in the area. I have never been in the shop itself, but the delivery driver that usually brings our food is extremely friendly and I can tell he works quite often. Therefore I try my best to tip him as well as I can. One time we ordered, it was later in the evening and we did not get our usual driver. The driver was not very friendly, it took almost 2 hours for our food to get here. The food was cold, our bread was hard, the meal was not very good for that night. So if you order delivery I would suggest only doing it if it's earlier in the day. As far as the quality of food any other time I have ordered, I have had better, but it's not completely terrible. The Italian cold cuts are pretty good. The cheese steaks are not bad, could use a little more meat and cheese, as well as some kind of seasoning on the meat to add flavor. The stromboli's are usually pretty good, they pack them with ingredients and the crust is always soft and has a nice parmesan taste. The pizza is pretty good as well. It's got a mom and pop shop feel too it. A bit greasy, but I personally like pizza that way. Standard sub shop fries, nothing too fancy. When I get fries I like to get the steak fries personally. The mega fries are ok, they could use more cheese and the cheese should be layered in there so it is on all the fries opposed to some (the cheese is not melty, It was melted on but hardens back onto the fries before you get it). Not a fan of the jalapeno bites, the peppers are not very spicy. I love their breaded mushrooms. I would rate them 4/5 of the ones I have had. Their shrimp is also pretty good. I have tried their salads, I was not impressed by them either. Very dry and bland. I did like the bread they used for their rustic sandwiches, But the rustic buffalo is not what I expected, I did not taste or see any buffalo sauce on it. Overall Giovanni's is good if you want something quick and filling. Thought for the quality of food I think it is priced a little on the high side. But not insanely high. read more

We have used Giovanni's for years and are very happy with them. I was bummed to see the crappy rating they have!! All we order is pizza, salads, and Stromboli's - all of which have always been delicious! We generally have them deliver- only once had a goof. We called and they promptly ran over the missing item. No prob. The delivery dude Rich ( think thats his name) is a pleasure. Love him! All around great carryout/delivery joint in our book. Cant say I'd 'dine in' necessarily. I just want to tell you about the horrible customer service I just received from Giovanni Pizza. I called in and ordered a Stromboli and a grilled chicken club on rye with a side of hot peppers. The cashier called me back twice to ask about the peppers. When the delivery guy got here he only had the Stromboli with the hot peppers. My sandwich wasn't even on the receipt. I refused the order cause now I was going to have to go out and get dinner but tipped the driver. Then I get a call from the manager asking me why I refused the order. I told him that half my order was missing and I told him I called in the order and the girl called me back twice. He said he talked to the cashier and she said I never mentioned a sandwich. He then went on to lecture me on how they wasted time coming out here and lost money. I told him they were providing horrible customer service by not getting my order right and then trying to blame me. He said he wasn't blaming anyone but the cashier said I didn't order a sandwich. By then I was so mad I told him I already ordered from another pizza place and that we wouldn't be doing business with them any more and hung up on him! read more
