Cheers! I've passed this restaurant multiple times. Armed with a coupon, I decided to eat there. I was greeted with a warm smile and a big hello from Anthony who turned out to be the co-owner. He was so personable. Anthony engaged me in conversation as did the waiter that I had for part of the time. I couldn't decide what I wanted and left the decision to Anthony. He not only made a superb choice of the fish but he also brought me a piece of the other entree of chicken that I was thinking about. I had the bread pudding for desert. My wife and I celebrated our 30th wedding anniversary with a wonderful dinner at Giulio's! We ordered a Huge variety of food AND drinks, and therefore had a great sampling. Note: our waiter, Louis, was truly helpful, friendly, knowledgeable, the right amount of attentiveness throughout our entire meal. First arrived warm, crisp, fresh bread served with a small charcuterie and basil pesto spread which we enjoyed while reviewing the menu. Then, we started with the Oysters Rockefeller and Mussels Marinara; I had a generous pour of Pinot Noir while my wife had a refreshing Cosmo. We had the arugula salad, homemade ravioli, the Chilean Sea Bass special with lump crab meat which was served with broccoli rabe; all DELICIOUS! Note: the atmosphere is comfortable yet elegant, festive with an old world charm in a great Victorian era house. A full bar in a cozy setting. Now, on to dessert. We had the cheesecake, cappuccino and an espresso martini! The owner stopped by our table to wish us a Happy Anniversary and offered us a cocktail on the house. My wife had a Baileys. Took out all the Mom's for a nice meal on Mother's Day. The food was very good but the services wasn't. The utensils and some plates were dirty. Our server was nice at all, we asked him for a special menu because one of the kids can't have dairy or gluten. Installed he said they can grill the chicken and the kid said ok. Once the main dishes came out our server was no where to be found. My kids grill chicken was ok but the vegetables had butter on them. The server never came around to ask how the meal is or if we needed anything. Didn't come by to see if we needed more drinks or to fill our water glasses up. Nor did he come around to offer graded cheese for the pasta dishes. The lady's that were busing the table did a great job, they cleaned up the table and took our desert order. We went here for my husband's birthday and he ordered the filet mignon for almost $50. It arrived smothered in sauce. It looked more like a stew. We were stunned. Despite him eating only one bite, neither the waiter nor the management inquired although both had visited the table. The waiter even asked if he wanted it wrapped and he said no. No further questions. Then we got a text survey from the restaurant and I told what happened. Never heard anything else from them. We have come here several times over the past few years and we were always happy. Food is delicious and the waiting service is great. The rolls are always served warm from the bread basket. A lovely start. Any dish is good, but what makes this place special for us are steaks. The filet mignon is carefully trimmed and is cooked to perfection. Also not to forget about the beautiful architecture. Kudos to the carpenters who are doing the restoration of this building. The fine woodwork is wonderful to admire while you wait for the food. It is especially beautiful in the winter with Holiday decorations around the fireplace. So yes, we will keep coming back. read more

We booked our wedding at the Old Tappan Manor for 11/11/18, and started our search for a rehearsal dinner location. Considering we were getting married on a Sunday, that means our rehearsal dinner would be Saturday night, and a few places wouldn't even consider hosting us. We got a recommendation from Martin at the Old Tappan Manor to check out Giulio's and we are so thankful we did! We worked with Anthony to create a private event menu for our bridal party and family of about ~20 adults. There were different menus with different price points. We decided to go with the option to have: 4 appetizers (Calamari Giulio' Style, Asparagus Wrapped in Bacon, Crab Cakes with Gorgonzola Dipping Sauce and Filet Mignon Carpaccio on Toast) - Only complaint here was the pieces of filet mignon were very tiny and looked so small even on a small piece of toast. We then had a salad course (Jenevieve Salad) and a pasta course (Penne with Vodka Sauce), which were both delicious. Finally, meal choices were: Chicken Scarpariello, Salmon Angelina, and Skirt Steak Contadina - all of which were complimented by our guests. At this point, everyone was full but the server gave everyone a bunch of to go trays so we could enjoy later. We finished the night with a choice of 3 desserts - NY Style Cheesecake, Chocolate Mousse Cake, or Carrot Cake. There was a ton of food, and it was all very delicious. I will say we started at 7:30pm and did not finish till about 10:30pm so it was a long night, considering how early we had to get up the following morning. Went here to celebrate a friend's birthday and the new year. We were a party of 8 and were seated in a private room, which made for a nice dinner. When you take into account the decor and the building, it was almost as if we were just having a nice dinner at someone's home. The wait staff was very knowledgeable and attentive without being presumptuous or annoying. The food was very good. We started with the Calamari Giulio's. It was very flavorful and a nice spin on a pretty standard appetizer. We also started with a flatbread pizza with black mission figs, prosciutto, vidalia onions and goat cheese. You know what they say about pizza...it's like sex..you'll never turn down a bad one. Not that the pizza was bad, but it definitely wasn't memorable. There definitely wasn't enough prosciutto and in fact the goat cheese was a bit overbearing. My entree on the other hand was very flavorful. It was a fettucine special with hot and sweet italian sausage covered in an asiago cheese cream sauce. It was very tasty and the richness of the asiago cheese cream sauce did a nice job of cutting the spice of the hot sausage. The pasta was cooked perfectly. Overall, I enjoyed the meal and the company. I think the only issue I had was the price. I think for the money spent, you can find better value. read more

Giulio's has updated and reopened with the same gorgeous Victorian house, where your family can dine and still hear each other. We had seven, our neighbors had at least 11, and we all enjoyed the ambiance of dentled mouldings, huge windows and a fireplace. We were looking for an intimate, well appointed, reasonably priced destination for our Sunday Dinner with the in-laws, and found just that in the refurbished Giulio's By Harvest Moon. The new menu pleased all, and made it difficult to choose, so the kids started in reverse order (picking dessert first). Desserts were perfect by the way. Lamb was delicious, carbonara appropriately filling, kids menu perfect and the rest of the food tasty, well presented and interesting. Wait staff was very attentive, young and friendly. We enjoyed the four cheese ravioli, the Bolognese, the lemon veal and the spaghetti with meatballs. Every one went home happy, satisfied and, most important, relaxed. Great service, good food. Came here for my sister's rehearsal dinner, and while it was a little hard to find, once we got there, it was great. There was a preset menu, with some guest choices, but the set choices were delicious. All of the courses were in fact delicious. While it wasn't the best meal I've ever had, it tasted like home, which I think my sister really appreciated. Good sidenote though, my other sister who's a vegan definitely did not starve while we all ate our omnivorous food. Since it was a private party, we had our own staff, and they were all very nice and accommodating. Anytime anything was needed whatsoever, they were there waiting for you (but not in a creepy/stalking way, more professional). A group of friends and I went to Giulio's on Saturday night. 4 of the group of 7 had a Groupon and we asked for a separate check for the other 3 (waitress wasn't too pleased about that). The restaurant is a beautiful place and I felt very comfortable there. They were very accommodating to a last minute change from a 4 top to a 7 top. Food was mostly good, with a few odd exceptions. I had a grilled shrimp over corn salsa app that was delicious. I wish there were more than 4 decent sized shrimp, but it's a fair portion (that just speaks to how good it was). A few other people had salads that they enjoyed (including a great tomato and burrata special). For the main, we had a wonderful sole stuffed with crabmeat accompanied by risotto. Several people had the Branzino. Some liked it some didn't. Overall we were happy with the food and the Groupon made the deal insane. A few odd things: 1)My sole came scorching hot without a warning and I burned my mouth on it (even after blowing on it). 2) My side of "risotto" was not risotto at all, but rice. It did not have anything near the consistency of risotto, so that was disappointing. 3) When we asked if we could have a bottle of wine that was on the Wines by the Glass list, but not on the bottle list we were told no. Which made no sense. We told our waitress to go ask someone why that's not possible. After 5 minutes we were told it would be OK. Overall, it was a very enjoyable evening and I would return, even without the Groupon, as the prices were very fair for the offerings. read more

The place is very charming, an old house built in 1880s renovated into a restaurant in the 70s, has a lot of dining area. Since it's a week night we figure it would be quiet, it turned out we were the only table there. The waiter was very nice and the food came out in timely matter. Overall ambience is wonderful the food is good and large portion. We love the fried calamari Giulio's style, but my shrimp scampi is not exactly what I expected. The price is kind of expensive if weren't for the Groupon we probably wouldn't go there unless it's some special occasion. read more

Let me tell you a little bit about Giulio's. It's wonderful! We had a surprise party here a few nights ago, and Anthony and the rest of his staff were remarkable. When we first met with Anthony to see the place (they were in the middle of updating the kitchen and were closed for a few days - he came in just to show us around!), we had a great feeling. Anthony was a pleasure to work with and very accommodating. The food, the service, the flowers (at an additional, but reasonable cost) - everything was perfect. So disappointed to write a bad review considering I've waited to come to this place for a while. The ambiance and the house is beautiful and the zepole was tasty but that's where the good ends. The crab cakes sounded delicious but they were dry and essentially inedible. I didnt write the place off after that considering i was extremely excited for my lobster and shrimp risotto. The shrimp was dry! 33$ for s meal and it was mediocre, at best. Server gene was nice but the place was dead and we were somehow there for 2 hours. I'm so upset because this place is beautiful. I visited this place for restaurant week. To be honest we lived in the area and never been in here. The place is very well done, an old house tastefully made into a restaurant. The service was attentive without being over bearing. It is a very slow paced meal but that was what was nice about it. Decent wine selection as well. The food was very good. My only complaint was the desert creme brûlée I would not get a again. Iced cold and rock hard topping.. I had a chicken dish and my wife had a salmon pasta dish. Both were very good. I checked out the regular menu and it seemed to be reasonable. I am glad to see they welcome guest to try their place during restaurant week. I have had bad experiences where the service was bad once we asked for restaurant week menus. We will be back to try again. read more

Casual dining in a 19th century mansion, Giulios in Tappan, NY serves up creative specials and an interesting menu for folks who appreciate fine dining. Atmosphere is warm and elegant, tables have linen tablecloths, the carpeted floors add to the ambience an help make conversation easy and noise levels down. There's ample parking on premises, several dining rooms on two floors, and a cocktail bar for after dinner or for that date night out for a quiet romantic spot. Appetizers: My wife and I shared two items from the menu, Spiedini in an anchovy and caper sauce, and Asparagus wrapped in bacon and sprinkled with grated cheese, both dishes were delicious and beautifully presented, actually the anchovy caper sauce was amazing! My wife selected branzino and opted for risotto in lieu of string beans and potatoes, the waiter accommodated that request without a flinch, i had the sole stuffed with crabmeat, also served with risotto. Both dishes were well balanced, cooked perfectly, and plated very well, both were delicious. Friendly waiter, accommodating chefs, and Victorian charm made this first visit one that surely will not be our last. I recommend you make Giulio's a must try soon! read more

Not sure why anyone would give this restaurant less than 5 stars. It's a beautiful old house, especially festive for the holidays. The food was fantastic!!! Be aware that the food is prepared individually and sometimes it may be a bit slow, but on the menu, this is pointed out, and your patience is appreciated. The Risotto and my ravioli with meatballs was amazing. A small point but, when I was asked if I wanted Romano for my ravioli, which I did, the waiter brought a bowl of grated Romano, as opposed to standing there and grating it. Since I love a lot of Romano, I really appreciate having the ability to add more at my own pace! It's the little things like that make the experience more special! A Ten+!!!! read more

We went to Giulio's for the New Year's Eve Fixed Price Menu. All in all, we were beyond disappointed with the service to the food quality to price ratio was poor. We had reservations at 10 pm, but arrived around 9:40. When we walked in, it took several minutes before we were greeted by one of the most unfriendly hostesses ever. We said we were early, and we would sit at the bar if our table wasn't quite ready. She told us it was ready and took us upstairs. Right at the top of the stairs, we were handed off to another hostess. This exchange took several minutes and I was left standing on the top step. The 2nd hostess proceeded to take us to the table only to find out that the table had not been cleared from the previous diners. So, she told us to go sit at the bar while the table was prepared. When we got to the bar, it took over 5 minutes for the bar tender to even acknowledge us. When he did, my husband ordered a beer while I requested a coke, and he proceeded to say "Just a Coke?", which I found to be somewhat offensive seeing that I am 9 months pregnant. After more than a 20 minute wait at the bar for the table to be cleared and reset, we were seated. It took another 15 minutes for the server to arrive at our table and get us menus. After handing us menus, he disappeared before asking us if we want a drink or to top off our drinks. He came back about 10 minutes later to take our order for all of the courses. He took our orders and left. 15 minutes later, he came back and proceeded to inform us then, that they were out of the what I had ordered for the 1st course and what my husband had ordered for the 2nd course. When he came to tell us this, he did not bring back the menus, so we had to ask him to bring us the menu again, so that we could pick new options. That took more time, but we did get him our new options. While we were waiting, another server brought us out each a roll, but failed to bring out any butter. My husband asked him for butter, but it never showed up. about 10 minutes later, we saw our server at another table, so we got his attention and asked him for butter. It took him so long, and I was so hungry, I gave up and ate my roll without the butter. He finally brought the butter out with our first course at 11:16pm (an hour and 16 minutes after our reservation with a fixed price menu). After this, the service went relatively smoothly. There wait time was reasonable between courses. The food was mediocre. Nothing to brag about, but nothing to complain about. The only real issue that I noticed was that my glass was never filled up unless we flagged down the waiter and asked. We understand that it was New Year's Eve, however, we feel that the service was very terrible. We will not be revisiting this establishment nor will be recommending it to anyone. read more

This is NOT an excuse. A good restaurant should know what the kitchen can handle before they honor reservations. In addition, we had a Groupon which we had given the waiter when we entered. When the bill came, it did not reflect the groupon and we waited until that was resolved. The food was just ok, nothing worth writing home about. I never do this, but with our recent experience at this place I feel I have to. My wife and I were invited to eat there with friends to celebrate and event and from the moment we walked in our waiter was Rude, Inappropriate and Insulting. He made inappropriate comments about our table and decided to tell us a story about his first encounter with a lesbian customer. We were not engaging and just wanted to place our order. I tried to order a beer and was told I "wasn't at Applebee's". Complete disrespect! Also, not only were our salads bad but the food in general was terrible.
