    Pizza by the Slice

I stopped by for a quick lunch between appointments. I got the 2 slice and a drink lunch special. I think it was a fine price point. The pizza was fresh out of the oven. I sprinkled some oregano on. It was tasty. I was quite pleased. I moved to this area two years ago. After my boyfriend and I found our usual pizza "go-to places" we find ourselves straying only when needed. I'm glad I tried this place. I told the man behind the counter that I'll be back! Next time I'll try something else!

What happened? We lived in an apartment about 4-5 years ago. And we got pizza here all the time. The Sicilian was an airy pie of goodness. And the "NY style cheese pizza" was perfectly made. We ordered two larges tonight. We now live close again. Only about 14 blocks. So I got pizza here for my wife's birthday. It was not the same. The dough seemed precooked? Almost crunchy but empty in the middle like an overcooked pretzel. The bottom of the pizza looked pre-cooked too. A pizza is made fresh. Maybe this was. But tonight's pizza was generic, not flavorful, not extra cheese and pepperoni, more like average cheese and pepperoni. It almost tasted like part Matzah bread and part pizza dough. It didn't make sense to me. Maybe this was a fluke. Maybe it was just a mistake or something was overlooked. But tonight's pizza was disappointing. I'm not sure if we will be back if this is the new standard. The mozzarella sticks were good though. And the sauce they serve with them is perfect. No sugary junk. Just Italian love. Now, if our order could be redone and right, maybe I'd change that star rating. The owner was there. He is always behind the counter. Very kind. But the gentleman behind the cash register spoke to me in a weird/rude tone. He almost yelled at me to reiterate that he wanted to know about my receipt. I was commenting on another employees had that I liked. And he cut me off with some tone. It was a little odd. That didn't kill the service. Was just odd. Two large pizzas. One extra cheese and pepperoni. Other large with extra cheese. One order of mozzarella sticks. Around $45.00. Sadly - 2/5

Decided to try a new place to buy some wings for NFL draft night... wrong choice The wings were fried too long, way too crispy, and weren't even tossed in sauce. Barely even any meat on the wings either. Overall very disappointed. Not sure about the pizza, but do NOT get wings from here

Review update a year later! Still strong :) When we were new to the neighborhood and looking for a good pizza place. We stumbled upon Giuseppe's and loved it. Their pizza isn't overly saucy or cheesy (so if you're a sauce person ask for more). So far we've gotten both pepperoni and Buffalo chicken pizzas. Both fantastic and the Buffalo chicken one EVERYONE ate. Almost the second I put the box down. The chicken fingers and fries are a great craving satisfier. The Stromboli's are good as well, SOMETIMES we don't feel like they've been cooked long enough, so maybe watch out for that :/ I do enjoy the steak or pepperoni boli. And for dessert, cannolis! These are 100% worth it if they're in stock. They fill them when you order so the shell isn't extra soggy when you go to eat it. Absolutely recommend. Its a cute little place next to the tracks S 18th street. It's a little difficult to get ahold of them sometimes as they only take phone orders, but they're prompt with the orders and greet you with a smile.

Again, wrong prices on their own website that turned into over $10 than what was shown.

Look, when they get your order right there is no better place for a sub. Sadly after a change of staff many moons ago, 85%+ of the time our to-go orders are wrong. We've basically just accepted it and learned to double check upon pickup that everything was correct. I placed another order tonight consisting of two subs, a sandwich, and stuffed shells. I spoke clear and concisely as to make sure there was no confusion. Low and behold the stuffed shells were the only thing they got right. Also, I understand inflation, however the prices listed on their website were never updated. According to their website our order should have been $33.25 because we ordered cheese on the sandwich and double meat on one of the subs (which was forgotten and when brought to their attention they copped an attitude like we were in the wrong and slapped two more pieces of meat on the sub). I even let it slide that both subs and sandwiches were to have no onions but of course they all did. Our total was $44.31, more than $10 over the listed price on their own website. I want to love this place, however it's so frustrating when they constantly mess up your order and are unapologetic about it. I shouldn't have to babysit them while making it or take time to double check the order when it's literally wrong more than I have ever had it right.

Joy's Grill & Burger House became a Friday Night Date Night destination during my birthmonth after…read moreI spotted them on social media. I've driven by Joy's a million times and somehow never noticed it before. It's tucked into a busy strip mall and easy to miss if you're not specifically looking for it. Spoiler alert: you should be looking for it. My quest for the evening included both a burger and a chili dog, because they both looked amazing and I wanted the full Joy's experience. My adventure buddy and I arrived around 5pm and I was honestly surprised to see only one other person inside when we walked in. We grabbed a booth by the front door and looked over the menu again to finalize our plan. Since it was our first visit, we decided to order a few things and split them so we could try more. We ordered the loaded chili dog topped with chili, cheese, onions, and mustard ($5.25) and one of the Big Block Burgers -- specifically the Joy's Burger -- which came with grilled onions and mushrooms, lettuce, tomato, LA sauce, Swiss cheese, and fresh cut fries ($12.99). Naturally we added bacon for an extra $0.99 because that felt like the right decision. We also each grabbed a Diet Pepsi (to maintain some illusion of balance) for $2.50 each. Our total came to $25.69 before tip, which felt like a pretty solid deal for a two-person Friday night dinner adventure. The setup at Joy's has a classic old-school diner feel. The grill sits right behind the seating counter so you can watch your food being made, and they mix milkshakes right out front as well. The place is simple and no-frills -- and in my experience, those "keep it simple and do it well" places are often the real heavy hitters. The chili dog came out first, and the first thing I noticed was that this thing was HEAVY. This wasn't your typical skinny hot dog -- it was a full ¼-pound dog absolutely loaded with chili. The flavor reminded me of a Cincinnati-style chili dog and it was really good. The chili was flavorful instead of just decorative, the mustard and onions were balanced perfectly, and the bun did its job without getting in the way. As someone who takes chili dogs very seriously, I have to give Joy's credit for delivering a straightforward, perfectly executed chili dog. Next came the burger and fresh cut fries, and when I say this burger was big, I mean BIG. Two patties tall with all the toppings stacked high. We sliced it in half and immediately dug in. The bacon was perfectly crisp, the mushrooms and Swiss were generous, and the whole thing just tasted like a real, proper burger. Not a chain burger that started life frozen and tastes like it could have been reheated in my microwave at home. This was the kind of burger you picture when you say you're craving a burger. The fries were exactly what you want from fresh-cut fries -- the smaller ones nice and crispy, and the bigger ones crispy on the outside with that soft, fluffy inside. Splitting the chili dog and burger turned out to be the right call. It would have been easy to eat everything solo, but my stomach probably would not have forgiven me later. Our server was super friendly and attentive throughout the visit. While we were there, a few more people came in to eat, but overall it felt relaxed and easy for a Friday evening. Parking is free since Joy's sits in a strip mall, but it can be a little tight because there are several other popular businesses nearby. We were able to find a spot without trouble, but I could see it getting tricky during busier times. If you're looking for solid burgers, legit chili dogs, and an old-school diner vibe, Joy's Grill & Burger House is absolutely worth seeking out -- especially if you're like me and always on the lookout for your next great burger or chili dog adventure.

Not bad fore a cheap meal but not filling for wine who's hungry amend definitely not suitable for a "man size" burger. And on the Really sad side about this place is that they have no shame on charging the customers $1.00 for a pickle. Not saying that you're going to get a big pickle, just some pickle slices for the burger, but for an ext4a $1.00. Never going back, will warn others, and generally stay away from businesses that are CHEAP. I mean if they're so broke they need to charge you $1.00 for a few pickle slices then perhaps the actual proteins are cheap and suss. Just saying....

Food | Experience…read more Pop by the McAlister's Deli in Camp Hill because somebody at my work got a sub that looked mighty scrumptious. It was a Friday night, probably around 6:30, and let me tell you: I think it was one of those occasions where my eyes were bigger than my stomach, or whatever that expression is. I ate too much. The food was good. Absolutely, positively no complaints about the food. In fact, I'd give the food four out of five stars. I think I just walked over the line a little bit, ate too much, and didn't feel particularly good after I left. So I can't give you the most scientific assessment of the food. I can just tell you that it was good. What I can speak to is my experience while I was there. It's Friday night, 6:30. There's one person working front of house, and it seems like there are a few people working in the back. They're separated in a way where they can't really intermingle--the only interaction is food getting handed through the window. When I get there, the woman working the front, bless her soul, seems like a super kind woman. She's brewing some tea while also waiting on customers, and apparently something goes wrong with the tea because it starts overflowing. Suddenly she's bouncing all over the place trying to clean this up while taking orders and dealing with customers. Meanwhile, there are a few workers back in the back of house, and nobody is really coming up to help her. And the dining room is basically empty. It's Friday night at 6:30, around when you'd think dinner rush would be starting. There are maybe two tables occupied in a dining room that could probably hold 20 or 30. That's not their fault. I understand that restaurants are dealing with a completely different dining environment these days. People are ordering DoorDash. People are eating at home. You don't need to hear my commentary on how I think restaurants should be run. I couldn't run a restaurant. But it did make me think: maybe we need to start making dining rooms smaller. Anyway. What I am going to speak to is staffing. I don't think there's any reason that, on a Friday night, there shouldn't be at least two people working the counter. Yes, I get it. It's slow. There were only a couple of people in the dining room. Maybe somebody was sick. Maybe there were circumstances I don't know about. There are always variables. But there's something kind of shitty about watching one front-of-house worker bounce around trying to keep everything together while nobody comes up to help her. You know what you signed up for when you franchise the fucking restaurant. You know what it takes to operate the place smoothly. And if that means two people need to be working the front, then staff it with two people. Because watching one woman juggle taking orders, making tea, cleaning up a mess, and trying to keep the whole place moving while she's clearly stressed out? That's cruelty. That's fucking cruelty. So, four stars for the food. Two stars for the experience. The food is good. If you're looking for a sub, I'd say go for it. But honestly? DoorDash it. You won't have to see this type of happenstance. You can sit at home, watch Austin Powers or Netflix, and have a DoorDash brody drop your sub off. Food: 4/5. Experience: 2/5.
