This place exceeded our expectations! We went prepared to not find it that great because we haven't had good experiences with italian food in Tucson, but were very pleasantly surprised. The wine selection was vast and well priced, and our entrees (Sausage Pasta and Pork Ricotta) were both delicious. I USED TO love this place but tonight's experience was so bad, I fear I will never return. We had guests in town to celebrate my birthday. We had made reservations, and were looking forward to a good dining experience. It was not. The actual food did not disappoint, but the wait and the service were absolutely unacceptable. I have a new favorite restaurant in Tucson. Everything from the atmosphere to the server to the food was amazing! We were seated quickly even though they just had a party of 25 walk in and our server Jeremy was friendly and attentive. The mussels appetizer was the best I ever had and our meal was delicious. We finished with the canoli, which was over the top wonderful. There was a musician playing outside which added to the ambience and after the meal the owner came over to make sure everything was ok. We showed up without a reservation on a very busy Mothers day, but we were able to be seated outdoors within 10 minutes. I wish there was a way to give negative stars - this restaurant deserves about a minus 5 or 10. I think he food is inferior to what one finds at the steam table in a typical Italian train station cafeteria. OK - there are a couple of good points. The prices are low, and the servings are huge. Unfortunately the huge serving is largely inedible. I couldn't even finish half of the meatball Ricotta that I shared with my wife - and she coldn't finish hers either. The pasta was overcooked, although not as badly overcooked as I had anticipated. The meatballs were dry and somewhat sour tasting, the sauce was a soupy mess of cheese and tomato with a completely forgettable taste. The bread was dry and tasteless, the antepasto had some kind of mystery cheese and the asparagus tasted stale. The stuffed mushrooms were OK. Not great, not good, just - sort of OK I had gone to Trattoria Guisppe before it closed and was reincarnated and I have to say that in my opinion the quality has regrettably not improved with the move to new quarters. read more

First of all let me say DELICIOUS!!!!!! My son and I went to Giuseppe's yesterday for lunch. Our mail lady, Danielle, told us how wonderful it is. Boy was she right!!!! Our server was wonderfully attentive, with out be overbearing or annoying. Drinks were refilled long before you would even ask for a refill. I took our servers advice and tried the Chicken Diablo-to die for!!!!! My son haddthe sausage sandwhich. He said it was wonderful! Portionswere very generous, neither one of us could finish our meal. We have eaten at Guiseppe's about two dozen times and we have never been disappointed. It's our favorite restaurant for a casual lunch or dinner. The food is wonderful East Coast Italian. The prices are reasonable especially the wine. We usually have lunch at Guiseppe's & althought it's not on the lunch menu, if requested, they will make eggplant parm which is out of this world. I read the reviews and was concerned about the iffy reviews regarding food and service but we went anyway and so glad we did! The grilled pork and the penne pasta with house-made spicy Italian sausage were outstanding and the service was excellent! Jesus was our server, he was prompt, efficient, and respectful. Ensured we had bread and updated us on our orders which came out fairly quickly - amazing since there were a number of large parties in at the same time! Thank you for a wonderful dining experience! I'm sure the food was tasty, but I was so annoyed with the poor service the entire night that I just couldn't enjoy it. We arrived around 7:00 pm on a Saturday and were able to be seated immediately which was unexpected. Water and bread were brought to the table immediately and that's when it all went downhill. We waited, we waited, we waited- 15 minutes. No server even though there were 4 standing near the bar. Finally our served said a "i'll be right with you" in passing as he moved to the other side of the restaurant. We waited and waited some more.The waiter came and took drink orders, got 3 of the 4 over to us quickly though brought the juice for the 3 year old in a tall glass. Waiting, and more waiting. Oh wait, our server took a phone call then disappeared. I asked the two hostesses (who were on phones and giggling) if they could assist and find a server to help ours who obviously did not have any awareness that he was horrible. Finally he came back asked if we were ready to order, no recommendations, no explanation, just a tapping foot as we ordered. Empty glasses were unnoticed. Never came back to see how the food tasted. Our plates were cleared from the table by the time he came back and asked about dessert- um, no. We'd be asleep by the time he came back. Went back and tried cannelloni, Which is NOT cannelloni but rather chicken pot pie rolled in a tube of pasta and smothered in bechamel sauce, It wasnt BAD, but it wanst cannelloni. Dad got the pollo bolognese now to me I didnt even bother to read the description as bolognese sauce is a tomato and meat sauce so I simply figured that they simply subbed out the rough cut beef for chicken but noooooo It is really chicken parmesan with prosciutto which was AWESOME. Too bad I got pot pie. My suggestion is to either read the menu like it is a set of instructions for disarming a bomb, because if you know Italian food and what the words mean you will be sad but if you dont know the names of dishes or just dont bother to read the names because they are WRONG then you will be fine. The chicken madeira is just chicken marsala but with madeira instead. because when I think of Italian cooking I say to my self hey lets use Portuguese wine instead. Don't believe the hype! The food at Guiseppe's is nothing better than average. Based upon the Yelp reviews, my expectations were admittedly pretty high. On the plus side, the food is very reasonably priced, with most entrees ringing in at less than $10.00. The ambiance is casual and pleasant and the service was adequate. There is a nice patio/breezeway that seemed like a very nice place to eat on a spring evening. On the down side, the menu is relatively small, and limited to traditional Southern Italian cuisine lacking in much creativity. Don't get me wrong, this type of cuisine can be divine when made with fresh ingredients and the right balance of spices (we miss you Roma Caffe!). Unfortunately, this was not the case at Guiseppe's. I had meatballs with farfalle pasta, sauce and cheese. All I could taste in the meatballs (all beef, no pork???), was fennel. Come to think of it, that's about all I could taste in the entire dish. I have a feeling that most of the older clientele at Guiseppe's are willing to overlook the very average cuisine because of the very reasonably priced food. I, on the other hand, am willing to pay a few dollars more for a meal prepared with just a little bit of passion and creativity. Went to Guiseppe's for a birthday party with a reservation for 20. Set up on the patio which was nice - but took 20 minutes for bread and water, another 20 minutes for drinks, another 20 minutes for appetizers, then a full hour for the main entree. Meanwhile small groups had come and gone having had their dinner. One of the entrees was promised to be without mushrooms, the server promised there were no mushrooms, but of course there were. I live on the opposite end of town and I can say without a doubt Guiseppe's is worth the trek.The food puts my italian grandmother's spread to shame (sorry Nana) with extremely generous portions of amazing italian fare for dirt cheap prices. Late lunch /Early dinner on a Saturday afternoon. After striking out at our first choice being closed until 4pm, decided to try Guiseppe's since we were in the mood for Italian food. at 3pm the restaurant only had one other party there and the waiter sat us right next to them, honestly it seemed like we were right on top of them, in which it appeared the Husband and wife having a fight. Luckily they finished up pretty quickly and left, so maybe that was the intent of the waiter. In the back of a strip mall, with a small court yard and across from a cigar shop. So if you can not handle the smell of cigars, you probably do not want to eat on the patio on the courtyard, even though there is a wonderful view of mountains. The food we got was very tasty and reasonable priced. We opted for their pasta dishes. I did not see Lasagna on the menu. We did not get wine or drinks, but it appears they have a good wine list. Overall a nice little place. I wish the cigar shop was not there, so we could enjoy the outdoor seating. read more

We went here last night and we were impressed! It was a full house, surprising for Tucson on a Thursday night. We didn't wait more than 5 minutes though. The location is nothing to scream about, a small restaurant in a strip mall....but its the food that counts right? Right! They brought us bread, which was tasty (asked for seconds). We both ordered the Eggplant Parmesan and the House Salad. The portions are gigantic, borderline ridiculous. But quantity doesn't always equal quality....so I wasn't sold. But the first bite made me realize I had found a great restaurant! It was delish! The service was attentive nothing to complain about in that arena, overall great experience, we will definitely be back. The prices on the website have gone up a bit for dinner, the EP was $10 instead of $8, still not pricey though, considering next time we go we will probably just order the two salads ($3.50, and very big for a side salad, nice mixed greens with croutons) and split one entree. Like I said, the decor and location are nothing extraordinary, but I have to say from the crowd and food we tried, this is not a place to miss. read more

Looks like I'm in the minority here but this place just didn't do it for me. The prices for both food and wine are extremely reasonable, my farfalle bolognese was pretty good, and the service was decent. It was packed so make a reservation if you go. It's definetely a much older crowd...much MUCH older....and I think because of that, the keep their food a little bland. We had the shrimp appetizer and it came with a generous (ha ha) 4 medium sized shrimp swimming in some sort of tasteless herby oil. The shrimp was overcooked and seriously 4??? For $7.95? I wouldn't have cared about the price or the quantity had it tasted good. My husband had the grilled pork which was ok but bland. The one thing that I couldn't get over was the bread - it was bordering on stale. Bad bread at an Italian place is like bad salsa at a Mexican restaurant, you just know your food isn't going to be great. However, judging from the other reviews, I'm inclined to think maybe we just ordered the wrong things or caught them on a bad night. read more

Atmosphere was nice and the sax player was a nice touch. With a limited menu you would think they would focus on quality - no so the Saturday evening four of us went. Wine list is strictly Italian - a little variety would be nice. We ordered what was advertised as cream of mushroom soup - none of us could find a mushroom in the spicy tomato based soup. It was good for what it was but we still aren't sure if it was actually mushroom soup. The meatballs were rubbery and coarse, lacked flavor unless you like fennel. Pasta was soft and over cooked. I love cheese but it was overdone and turned into a glob of congealed goo before I could eat it. The chicken was overcooked. The only favorable dish was my wife pork chop which she had no trouble with. My folks took us here after several good experiences, and were disappointed and embarrassed about the whole thing. The Antipasti was at Happy Hour price of $6. Quite frankly the quality was worth 3 times that amount. Amazingly good selection from the cheese and prosciutto to the roasted peppers and grilled asparagus. Main course of Braciole was a disappointment. The pasta and sauce was tasty but the meat was bland and a bit stringy. The grilled pork was tasty. I had hoped to have great news about this restaurant run by another of the Scordato family members. Unfortunately all I have to say in its behalf is if they tried harder, they could be worse. I was seated at the bar (despite many unoccupied tables) where, despite several complaints, all of the serving staff bumped into my chair, both coming and going!
