We came on a Saturday evening with reservations for a group of 6- we were hoping for outside seating but it wasn't available, unfortunately! I started with the ube mocktail mule (choice of ube or prickly pear flavor). It was delicious and had a strong ube flavor! The entree I chose was the Herb Seared Salmon. It is not labeled gluten free, but can be made gluten free by swapping out the barley for a different side- I chose the citrus rice. It was all delicious! For dessert, there are actually two gluten free dessert options (unusual!) and sorbet! I chose the Maple Chai Torte and it was incredible! So flavorful and delicious! We had a really nice dinner on the patio at Epazote during our stay at the El Con. Our server Alyssia was fantastic. Very attentive and prompt. We enjoyed the zero proof Pom Pom Press, and the complimentary jalapeño corn bread was really delicious! We shared the chips and salsa and the short rib tacos (we added on a 4th taco, but because they were so generously filled we could have just shared the 3!) The tacos were great - but the avocado salsa had absolutely no flavor. We added a generous squeeze of lime and a little salt and it was better. We loved the convenience of having a nice restaurant on site and we would definitely eat there again next time we're in town. read more

I enjoyed the Tuna Tartar Tower appetizer and the Cowboy Burger at Epazote Kitchen & Cocktails in Tucson, AZ inside the El Conquistador Resort. The Tuna Tartar Tower comes with Ahi Tuna, avocado, Agave Yuzu Glaze and house made tortilla chips. This was a Gluten Free appetizer. The Cowboy Burger was ordered medium rare and comes with garlic aioli sauce, lettuce, tomato, white cheddar cheese and jalapeños with a side of crispy French fries. The burger patty and French fries were seasoned well. I rate both 4.5/5 stars delicious! Getting our food was a bit slow tonight because they had a lot of large parties but the servers were very nice always refilling our waters and other drinks. Give these two a try! I cashed in a free stay to celebrate my mom's birthday. We made reservations for dinner at Epazote. We went for an early dinner so the dining room was very empty when we arrived. We were greeted and promptly seated. Our server was very nice and professional. He brought out jalapeño cornbread bites with cilantro butter. As a family with the cilantro tastes like soap genes, we asked for regular butter instead which was quickly brought. Our server had never heard of the cilantro phenomenon and told us he asked another server about it who was in the know. I ordered the short rib and my mom got the conquistador pasta. The sauce on the pasta does have a kick if you are someone with a low spice tolerance but it was a good portion and had a great flavor. The short rib was delicious - very tender and a rich beefy sauce. The leek risotto had a mild onion flavor with roasted carrots. I enjoyed the meal a lot. I don't typically crave red meat a lot so when I do, it's great when the meal is delicious. Honestly, the short rib was one of the safer meals with no cilantro! Went there for a snack. Second star is just the people are nice and well intentioned but the food is horrific. I would not recommend this place to anyone. The calamari was fried dough with hidden calamari somewhere in the dough. The coup was the sprinkle of a generous potion of grated Parmesan cheese! Who does that? Absolutely disgusting. . The asparagus was killed via oil and heat death. I am not sure how anyone can do that. To even make it better there was a generous portion of pepper added. You can see it in the picture. This is one of the worst places I have ever been to. I highly recommend this place is avoided. PS. We told the waitress about our experience and she called the manager. He was very apologetic and comped us the meal and also a couple of snacks at the calibri next door. Very generous. Sadly, this is nothing more than an overpriced Resort restaurant. It's priced so highly because it's convenient to Resort guests, but I would not eat here for any other reason besides convenience. The atmosphere is one of the best parts of this place. The vibe is casual yet upscale, with a beautiful indoor dining room and an outside patio overlooking the resort. The service however, was lackluster. Our server Jared was not the best. He wasn't rude in any way, he was obviously very overwhelmed and consistently messed our orders up. He didn't write down anything and did a poor job of checking on us. He barely ever came over and it was a chore hunting him down when things were wrong. As far as drinks, it was a mess. The first drink we got was their "best-seller", it was absolutely awful. So terribly sour it left a bad taste in our mouths. We asked our server for a Amaretto Stone Sour, it was also terrible. The drink tasted like straight lemon juice. We had to go up to the bar. The bartender, I believe her name was Sam, re-made it and was very friendly. The Jalapeño Cornbread, provided as a complimentary starter, was absolutely delicious. We also ordered the Grilled Shishito Peppers and Calamari. The Grilled Shishito Peppers were really good, very flavorful and cooked well. The Calamari was the opposite, it was chewy, overly breaded and tasted old. It was also overly seasoned with a spicy seasoning. We also split 2 Salads. One was a Southwestern Caesar Salad, one was a House Salad. The Caesar Salad was very good, but we were charged for chicken that we didn't ask for, and the dressing was not put on the side like we asked. The House Salad was okay, but nothing special. For Entrees, we were incredibly disappointed. I ordered the Beef Tenderloin, other guests ordered the Epazote Burger and the Salmon. Our Entrees took about 45 minutes to arrive, and we spotted them under the heating lamp and had to ask to ask our server to grab them for us. The Beef Tenderloin was so unbearably salty it was almost inedible. It was crusted in salt and pepper and that's all I could taste. It literally made me nauseated, not to mention it was very undercooked. The other guests hated their dishes. The Salmon had a sickeningly sweet sauce that made it taste awful. The Epazote Burger came raw in the middle and had to be remade. It was better once re-done, but the Ranch Fries were so salty they were barely edible. When we told our server about the food, he apologized but did not take anything off of the bill. We paid over $200 for poor service & food, therefore I would not recommend this restaurant. *By the way, I would not recommend the resort either. Our room had black mold, bugs and stained carpet and staff could care less. read more

We were a groups of 10 and had reservations. When we arrived, we were lead to two tables, each set up for 5 people. When we asked about putting the tables together, the young lady became flustered and said she would have to ask...they were not busy. We went ahead and began to move the tables together to create a large square so we could see each other and be one group. In the haste of helping us, a server accidentally spilled a glass of water. Not a big deal but it took several minutes for dry tables cloths to be brought. Once we got settled, I asked our server, Alease, if separate checks would be ok (total of five couples) and she was fine. The food was very good and we had a variety from the burger and a steak to the paella and arroz con Pollo and veggie pasta with shrimp. Everyone reported good meals although one friend ordered the arroz con Pollo and there was no mention of peas in the description but it comes loaded with them. The kitchen was very accommodating and redid her dish sans peas. One other friend had some food allergies and the kitchen accommodated that as well. Overall a good experience and good service. Beef short rib should fall apart when you touch it with a spoon. Mine was the opposite. Waitress asked how our meal was and saw me struggling with the short rib. The entire dish was amazing and I loved the sear on the protein. The staff was amazing as well as the view. I have no idea how this place can get bad reviews. Everything for us was excellent plus. Jasmine took extra good care of us. Food was amazing - starting with the jalapeño corn muffins, the spinach salad, the elote en Vaso corn dip and chips, Prescott raised NY steak (made beautifully rare) and the marinated togarashi ahi poke bowl. They even made us a chocolate torte slice, decorated our plate with happy 50th anniversary! Sam, the bartender, knows her stuff! She let us try 3 wines before we found what we wanted. Epazote completely exceeded my expectations, even though a coworker had raced about it! I just don't typically expect much from restaurants in hotels. However, every single dish we had was amazing! The tortilla chips with guacamole and salsa were fantastic, the prime rib special was so unique and amazing, and the burger was divine! It's one of those places where everything is just fantastic! The macaron for dessert was the literal icing on the cake and was probably one of my all-time favorite macarons! Dined here last night for Mother's Day. Amazing experience! They went out of their way to accommodate us and provide a wonderful dining experience. Skyler, the bartender and our server, was attentive and friendly. Started with beers--we all had the Grand Canyon pilsner. Beers were $7 and they no longer have a happy hour so that would be my one complaint. Had the nachos for an appetizer. Very good. My brother and I had the salmon, my mom had the trout, and my dad went with the half rack of ribs. Everything was delicious. The biggest gem of this place is the view! Named after a Mexican herb that gives an oregano-like oomph to food but also is used as a health cure-all, Epazote at the El Conquistador Hilton resort is a restaurant high on taste ... and you'll feel good by the time you leave (especially if you get a margarita!) A lot of times, hotel restaurants are no bueno, as they ride the coattails of the restaurant and provide limited options. Epazote, however, would stand alone in any restaurant row in the USA. What an interesting freebie: Crispy flat bread and jalapeño corn muffins with their homemade butter. Then came an amuse-bouche of big seasoned fries paired perfectly with habanero salsa. Served as an appetizer, the Epazote Nachos come with crisp, mildly seasoned chips, topped with a dollop of quac, Santa Cruz black beans, pico de gallo, Jack cheese, and cilantro crema. While a bit overpriced at 20-large, the Ancho Burger was perfectly cooked. Along with the the just-right char, it included a buttery, lightly seared brioche bun, applewood-smoked bacon, Colby Jack cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion, pickle, and a side of hand-cut fries. My Caesar Salad, although teeny for an entree portion, was a delectable mix of lettuce gems, crispy capers, Parmesan cheese, croutons, and their homemade Caesar dressing. Came here for drinks and appetizers during a business meeting. The area they had setup fo tour event was nice and available at the time specified. They had bread on the table and promptly brought out apps for the guests. Servers were friendly and attentive, greeting guests and taking drink orders. I had a glass of Moscato and the Tucson Sunset both really good drinks. The Moscato was so smooth and sweet. I immediately fell in love with the flavor -- only wish I had asked the brand they serve because I'd really like to get a few bottles for home. The place is clean and had bar seating as well as table and outside seating available. They are closed on Mondays and open at 5pm other days. The food itself is on the saltier side. Beware if you're used to lighter fare. Smallish - medium menu fyi. My favorite dish was the salmon entree. Still salty but delish. I also liked the mussels appetizer, but very small portion (like 8-10 mussels) so perfect for a light meal. The pear dessert was yummy! Two items to be mindful of: (1) The tortilla soup was almost inedible -- both my coworker and I could not eat the soup beyond a few bites. It was like drinking salt. (2) The soft taco tortillas are grilled/fried so they're very hard but then they don't break off like a hard shell so we're trying to chew through a tortilla that is hard but chewy. Service has declined. Epazote used to be good for a quick classy dinner looking at the pool and the mountains. Last night we had reservations at 5:30. We showed up and average sized crowd. Hostess asked if we wanted to sit at a hightop bar table - so we did. Mistake. There was one bartender taking care of the entire restaurant and 4 hightops. He couldn't do everything. Maybe it was due to the hotel banquet that night?? Anyway, Hilton is usually better. We got out of there in 2 hours after waiting 30 minutes for a beer and glass of wine, and then total of 45 minutes for chips and salsa. I had flank steak - pretty good. We dined at Epazote on a Saturday night. We ate outside and the scene was pleasant and the outdoor dining area was not very crowded. We ordered a bottle of wine, appetizers, and entrees. Our appetizers were the best part of the entire meal. The crab and avocado tower was delicious, light, and a very fresh combo of crab and avocado. The duck confit quesadilla had a wonderful mix of shredded duck and a blend of Mexican cheeses. The accompanying mango salsa was the perfect addition atop the quesadilla. For the entrees, the salmon was a major disappointment. The kitchen severely charred the salmon and it was over cooked. Worse yet, the kitchen hid the charred fish with the vegetables. The Poblano Relleno was a good dish overall, but there is no cheese in this interpretation of a relleno. Just remember this if you order it. Serving sizes for all dishes are generous. The wine was (of course) tasty. This is a good restaurant, but they need to pay more attention to detail. The service also needs improvement with an attempt to show they care and provide a more elevated experience for the diners. read more

I found out about Epazote while looking into AZ Restaurant Week. They had an enticing southwestern style menu and we opted to try them out. This new restaurant is located inside the Hilton El Conquistador where "Dos Locos" used to be. For starters we had the Cesar salad and the BBQ Rib Quesadillas- both excellent and just enough to get you warmed up for the meal. I happen to be allergic to eggs and had a vinaigrette with my salad and I was surprised to find it was an agave vinaigrette! It really changed it up and tasted refreshingly different. For our entrees my husband had the pecan encrusted trout which was delicate and came with a on a bed of diced roasted corn, zucchini, and nopalitos. (I may have sampled some of his...) I had the eggplant enchilada which was filled with a great queso fresco and served with delicious mashed potatoes. For desert we had the chocolate mouse and poached peaches with goat cheese. In the interest of full disclosure: the wife and I came here with a gift certificate I had won at a recent Yelp event. Jennifer, with the Hilton marketing group, was very helpful in getting our reservation set up and seeing that our gift certificate was waiting for us when we got there. We had to cancel the initial reservation and reschedule; there was some confusion regarding the gift certificate, but not an eyelash was batted and the good folks at Epazote took care of it in the best fashion imaginable. Hats off to them. Now... about the food. The gift certificate did not include alcohol so, fortunately, it was still happy hour when we arrived. They do have a full bar and I wish I had ordered a cocktail but just ended up having a beer from their local-heavy tap selection, Desert Magic IPA from Musdshark brewing in Lake Havasu City. Wife had a glass of the house cabernet. Starters - They start you off with some crisp flatbreads and cornbread served with cilantro-jalapeño butter. The cornbread was quite tasty and accented well by the butter. We ordered an appetizer of goat cheese bruschetta - two good size oblong crostinis with a slathering of goat cheese, topped with a roasted tomato and olive tapenade and drizzled with a balsamic reduction. It was very good. It's on their happy hour menu and I would probably go back just for that. Entrees - I had the smokey beef short ribs and my wife had the Santa Fe chicken enchiladas. I actually remembered to take a picture of both and posted them. My short rib dish was a very generous portion and were definitely smokey... and sweet, much like barbecue ribs. There were two. One was fall apart tender and the other one probably could have braised a little longer. The goat milk mashed potatoes were the airiest mashed potatoes I have ever had. My wife was glad to find her dish not too spicy and she was also picking up some smokiness in her dish. She described the rice as tasting like rice pilaf. Dessert - I remembered reading a Yelp review and the reviewer raving about the peach cobbler so we shared that. This dessert hit all the notes. The peaches were tart, the sauce not too sweet, the oatmeal crumble topping provided some texture and the whip cream and vanilla ice cream on top gave it flight. It was one of the better desserts we have had in a restaurant in some time. I teetered between three and four stars on this one for a couple of reasons: The appetizer and dessert were the best part of the meal and we would probably go back based on either of those. The entrees, while good, were not the stars of the meal. They were so accommodating on the whole gift certificate thing I hate to bring up service but to be perfectly honest the service was a little clunky. The ambiance and decor are stunning so they seem to be aiming for fine dining, but service does not match. We had to ask for the dessert menu when the server collected our plates and seemed ready to close us out. It truly would have been a shame to miss out on that dessert.
