It was my mom's birthday and one of her favorite restaurants is Gladstones. She used to always bring us when we were kids and just seeing her face light up when we are there always brings back those memories. Well I decided to surprise her for her birthday (but my dad killed the surprise). First off, let me start by saying the restaurant only has bar and patio seating. The inside is being renovated due to the fires so we had to sit in the freezing cold at 7:30p. The staff was great by providing two heat lamps for our table. Once they finished, the waitress came over and took our order. I went with the surf & turf, while everyone else went with the fish & chips. I loved the lobster, peas and mashed potatoes but my steak was a little too fatty for me. I cut off the fat and ate the middle but it was still a lot of fat left. I don't think it was worth the price but it was good. Everyone else enjoyed their fish & chips and virgin Pina Colada's. Lastly they brought out an ice cream cake for my mom's birthday, which tasted exactly like the Bob's Big Boy hot fudge ice cream cake (brought back so many memories). Ok, I returned here after all these years and as of the time of writing this updated the inside is closed for renovations, the views are still outstanding, the staff was friendly and attentive and service was quick. The food is good, is it amazing, no, will I be coming back... yes I feel like enough has changed and they are putting effort in the right places and definitely heading in the right direction. Gladstones is definitely one of those places you always recognize driving on the pch and has been there forever. I was recently in the area and took my kids for lunch. The Wil Rogers deck can be visited without buying food. It's right by the ocean and has its own Public restrooms. Parking is valet or self parking on the lot next to it. Staff was excellent. We had the kids burger and the lobster Mac n cheese. The burger and fries were good. The lobster Mac n cheese was so-so. It had a lot of lobster bits but flavor wise wasn't that great. Prices are hefty. The kids burger was $15. I am glad these places are still around but maybe food should match the price. read more

Time to rebuild...and REVISIT one of SoCal's most iconic restaurants. The Great Fire of 2025 destroyed half of what was the old Gladstone's. Now they're rebuilding and they've refashioned their outdoor bar and deck area and are doing it right. Still offering great food and alcoholic delights - all right there on that patio area - and it was a GREAT HANG! My bud and I enjoyed drinks and traditional Glad-Fare (fish & chips, steamed veggies [Eat your vegetables!], clam chowdah' and more) and it was so damn good! The dudes working the joint were welcoming, multi-tasking, bending over backwards to make us comfortable and getting us everything we needed, post haste. A favorite of mine for over 30 years, so happy to see Gladstones is open and serving delicious seafood as always. My most recent visit began with a joyful greeting from the hostess who found me a table with a perfect view of the Pacific and Malibu beach. Ordered their world famous chowder in a bread bowl and was as content as could be. Chowder was delicious as always and the atmosphere is unmatched. Highly recommend you return to Gladstones on PCH as quickly as possible! Note that the interior is currently being remodeled, but there are plenty of tables on the deck, which is really where you want to be. Outdoor bar is also open! read more

So happy Gladstones is back open! I had such a phenomenal experience here, the ocean views were absolutely stunning. Right now, only the patio is open and they're working with a limited menu since they're still renovating and recovering from the tragic fires, but it's heartwarming to see this iconic spot healing and the community showing up to support them. Our server was super friendly and attentive, we were never left waiting. We started off with their Pina Coladas, which were so refreshing and honestly tasted like a smoothie (in the best way). The calamari was AMAZING-- I couldn't stop eating it even though I was trying to save room for my entree I got the Grilled Chicken Sandwich for my entree which was good, I wouldn't say it was anything special but was totally worth it with the breathtaking ocean views. I came to Gladstone's in 1996-1997 on a family vacation and had such fond memories. When I moved back to CA, returning there was at the top of my list. They say you should never meet your heroes and I kind of wish I had stuck with the memory. The food was not good, there was bird poop everywhere, and everything looks old and rusty. There was about 10-15 people in the whole place, felt like a ghost town. I did ask for my leftovers to be turned into a mermaid which was the highlight of the visit. What happened to this place? It needs some love. With this location, I get that you don't need to try but... maybe try anyways? read more

8 of us went late afternoon to celebrate a couple of birthdays and put together a nice table with 3 on each side and one on each end which made for a nice ocean view for all but the man who's back was to the ocean. Our server, Jessica, was 5-star all the way even though she appeared to have lots and lots of tables to take care of. She has a great personality with lots of humor and made everyone laugh and was very helpful as almost everyone added or subtracted something from their menu order. Literally each couple in our group ordered fish & chips with the ladies ordering salads and it's safe to say everyone enjoyed their food. The only thing I barely ate half of were the French Fries, which were okay but just too much as I finished the chips. We also got a free birthday muffin that we all had a piece of. This has to be one of the better views in all of LA. Decent food with a price point that is high, but not out of reach which is surprising considering the location. Peaceful and friendly, it feels welcoming to all. Nice to have a local spot without snobbery or a tourist trap atmosphere. As a mom I especially appreciated the kids being able to play in the sand right below while I wrapped things up. Please check out the touching mural that reminds us of what we lost in the fires. It was heartwarming to see so many guests expressing sincere gratitude and delight in the reopening. Gladstones, you are part of healing our community. Be sure to stop by the 'public deck' on your way in/out to see the 3 murals recently added. One is a tribute to local businesses lost. Very moving indeed. Pre-fire the patio was looking a little worn, but now it looks AMAZING! All I can say is... ENJOY IT WHILE IT'S HERE. (Actually I stole that quote from Heidi, my server!) I've been coming to Gladstone's since well before I was a preteen back in the 80's and I won't say how old I am now! Gladstone's has taken me through my teenage years, to my young adolescence and adulthood, to when I got engaged, married and brought my own kids here. Many birthdays and special occasions were had here that will forever be part of my sweetest memories. It's been through several ownerships and management through the years and I really hope it continues to remain intact as one of the few "historical landmarks" and quintessential places to visit in LA. Feeling warmly nostalgic, I decided to drop by on a whim after dropping my daughter off nearby at the Getty Villa on a Saturday morning. The place was pretty empty, but it started filling up soon after. Heidi was my server and she's been here for 15 years so she can relate to my deep connection to Gladstone's. It was nice to share some memories with her as well as get some insight about some of its history that I didn't know already. I started off with their delicious and unique Bloody Mary loaded with bacon, celery and pickled condiments followed by their infamous and delicious clam chowder in a bread bowl. How can I not?! It never fails. I thoroughly enjoyed sitting in a prime spot outdoors, soaking in the warm sun while sipping my Bloody Mary and indulging in my chowder. Even though it was early January, it felt like a typical summers day and while looking for dolphins, I was instead treated with a regatta sailing right in front of me. It really made for a relaxing and enjoyable day. Typically what you usually get when you're at Gladstone's. This place has HISTORY and if you want to experience a special part of LA, you need to come here. Bring friends from out of town, drop by on a weekend or just come spontaneously like I did. Highly recommend this spot for drinks and a view, but don't bother staying for food. First of all, there is a nice outdoor patio that's heated, which is also just free for the public to go sit at. I'd recommend sitting out there with a drink and enjoying the coastal views. We ended up going inside for lunch on a Tuesday afternoon. Service was a bit slower than expected. I had the Baja Style Fish Tacos which only had pickled onions and greens on it, they didn't include the cilantro cream or Amarillo sauce on top as listed on the menu. I feel the need to share this with you since I live in Bakersfield and drove all the way to your location for my 70th birthday. Let me start by saying I love gladstones, but was so disappointed when I was taken there this past Saturday, May 30 for my 70th birthday. We placed my 3 14 year old grandkids at the first table, the adults were seated right next to them. The waiter apparently went to the kids and asked if they wanted to start off with appetizers and the kids not know anything about the item said yes and each chose the $50 family size seafood platters and it was delivered to their tables. When I saw this my eyes got big because I knew none of the kids ate Calimari or Claims (they had no idea what that was) I then asked what that was on top of the platter and was told fried Cod....OMG it was unrecognizable because it looked burnt or fried in old grease. These kids had no idea these items were $50 each because they menu just had a 50 on it. They had no idea what they got themselves in to (I believe the waiter should have confirmed that order with the parents sitting right next to them. Then my niece sitting across from me ordered the salad specifically because it said it had bacon. Well it came without bacon so she asked the waiter what happened to the bacon and was told no bacon comes on the salad, she showed him the menu that stated with bacon, he then said I'll go get the bacon. He comes back with 3 thick slices of bacon on a plate, where she started to break the back up herself to put on the salad. We then called the manager over and asked why as the bacon served in slices instead of chopped up like it was supposed to be on top of a salad, he said this is how it's served but he would be happy to cut it up for her. Order cocktails and was served the wrong alcohol which we quickly informed the bartendar of this and it was resolved. For the money spent this was an awful experience!!!! After touring the Getty Villa, we stopped for lunch at Gladstones at the Will Rogers State Beach Park. This iconic seafood restaurant has been around for 50 years and was slated to close last year (late 2023) but was saved by a group of employees and supporters. Since it was 1 PM when we came in, we chose to sit at an indoor patio table. We had a lovely view of the sandy beach, Pacific Ocean, beach goers and a coordinated family event with the L.A. County Lifeguards below us. Our friendly and efficient server (sorry, I forgot his name) identified himself as a former Honolulu-resident since he transplanted himself for higher education in Los Angeles. He gave us the rundown of Gladstones new Summer Menu and fresh seafood before taking our beverage orders. We didn't have too long of a wait as he delivered our refreshing cocktails (Bloody Marys and Kalifornia Kolsch) but it was just enough time for us to decide on what to eat. My BIL ordered the World Famous Clam Chowder and Brioche Lobster Roll and I ordered the Crispy Calamari to share and chose the Tuna Tartare. Yeah, my husband and brother-in-law were surprised that I only ordered appetizers for lunch. However, my husband surprised us by ordering a Classic Burger for lunch. We teased him about ordering a burger instead of seafood at this seafood forward restaurant. He justified his lunch choice by wanting hot, fresh, and crisp French fries, which our server said were "the Best." We wolfed down our tasty food and drinks and enjoyed the view, excellent service, and eating experience here. Still, many of the tabletops seemed sticky because of the constant ocean mist and the vinyl bench seats were worn and a bit tattered; I wouldn't make this location a dining destination. 3.5-stars read more

The restaurant is located on Will Rogers State Beach on a Pacific Coast Highway and Sunset Boulevard. The restaurant shares a parking lot with the state park. There were plenty of parking space and the cost was five dollars to park for dinner. The menu was extensive, and the prices were moderate. The restaurant has a full bar. There is no inside seating. The tables outside all have heat lamps to keep you warm. His recommended that you wear a sweater or jacket at night. The meals served were very good. The service was really good. If you're driving northbound to the restaurant as recommended that you stay in a left lane so you can make a left turn into the parking lot. If you're driving, westbound on Sunset Boulevard, the street end at the parking lot to the restaurant. read more

Our daughter and son-in-law were visiting from Northern California and wanted to go to the beach. We went for brunch at Gladstone's We ate outside right by the ocean. It was a beautiful view and with such refreshing clean air. We had crab cakes and calimari for appetizers that were delicious, New England Clam Chowder in a sourdough bowl which we loved and Caesar salad with shrimp which our daughter said was the best she had every eaten. This is an establishment that you come for the views rather than the food. The view is wonderful- perched right on Will Rogers Beach. Unobstructed views if sitting inside along the window, on the deck or on their catwalk! Plus they have happy hour on the weekdays from 3-7pm. Happy hour consist of drinks and food. The drinks include pina coladas, margaritas, beer, and wine. The happy hour drinks are from $5-10 dollars. Also the menu consist of a variety of food items. We tried the calamari- and we thought it was overcooked and fishy. The tomato sauce that came with the calamari was good. The cheeseburger for $10 was a better option- nice bread for the bun. The burger itself was not very thick. Note happy hour is only at the bar or on the catwalk. The catwalk has limited seats and the bar is a bit removed from the ocean view. Both locations are not accessible for those who are handicap- and the hostess would not make an exception for our group. Service has room for improvement- first of all you need to be accommodate individuals with disability. You need to provide equal opportunity for all. Second of all, the service has room for improvement- you don't just throw a check down and walk away.... As for parking- there is a city run parking lot. Parking ranges from $7-15.00. Its cheaper to secure beach parking than restaurant parking- even with validation. Beach parking is only $7.00. Plus there is parking on the streets too. Just be careful when parking and walking on highway one. Given the memories here and the view, despite the poor service and ok food, we will back for the views. read more

Due to their reopening since the LA fire, some things are still not available like the oysters and other items in the seafood tower but our server Maddy more than made up for it. Others in our party had the lobster roll (A), chicken sandwich (B)- average... and fish and chips (C)- tempura dipped fish ... while fish was great, the tempura coating just didn't work .. would not recommend... overall though great experience, view and service. read more
