I hired Kary as my HMU for my wedding in April 2026. She was a total professional and really passionate in what she does. I was really happy with my looks throughout the event and Kary was attentive throughout, really glad to have hired her. During the makeup trial she listened to my needs and took times to try multiple styles and looks until I'm comfortable with my choices. Her makeup style is very beautiful and natural at the same time, she has a great understand of Asian features. I felt very beautiful. During the event she stayed around for almost the whole ceremony to reception, helping with touch ups and outfit/look changes. She was also great with my mother and bridesmaids, patient and giving styling support when my mom had questions. However I think there's room for improvement in her team. The second HMU she brought with her to help with the other half of my bridesmaids was not as good. My bridesmaid mentioned that her side bun constantly fell out and after asking to be fixed multiple time they just ended up fixing it themselves. The second HMU also didn't seem to have the same joy as Kary and wasn't too friendly. Outside of that, Kary's husband Eugene does all her booking, scheduling and communications. Have some patience for him to get back to you and double check the booking times as I experienced some mixed up during the trial booking. I contacted Kary Li for my wedding hair and makeup. I was informed that she is not available but "her team" will be able to help. I booked a trial and was requested full payment up front $300 this past July. I sent some inspo pictures over to her team/Eugene? I wanted soft glam, rosy cheeks, glowy skin and a French twist updo with soft voluminous face framing piece in the front. My HMUA on the day of the trial was Karina (I believe that's what she said). The trial did not turn out the way I hoped. I think there were two issues. First, I believe Karina was fixated on the inspo pics without checking in to make sure I liked it . Second, and more importantly, there was a major communication issue during the trial. There were many moments during the appointment when my requests were not understood or addressed. Initially, I stayed quiet because I trusted the process and assumed everything would come together in the end. However, once I realized the look was moving away from my vision even after showing reference photos, I tried to suggest changes, but many of them were either misunderstood or not executed as intended. I truly believe this was due to the language barrier rather than a lack of effort. By the end of the trial, I found myself making adjustments to my hair and makeup on my own. I asked for another artist who speaks English. Initially I was told Karina will be just fine, i just need to send over exactly what I want to change on my wedding day. I insisted on a new artist because at the very least I should be able to communicate with my HMUA in real time during my wedding. I was connected with someone else and the new trial should be $450. She had not learned to use makeup so I wanted to hire a professional to train her so she'd learn quickly and well. My criteria was that she should have strong experience teaching Asian girls and that she didn't sell products (conflict of interest). Kary had excellent reviews here on Yelp and on another outside site. She and her husband/booker Eugene were helpful and responsible and gave me what I felt was a reasonable price for a 3 hour session covering makeup and hair. I could not be happier with the experience and result! She was very thorough and efficient, yet patient. She explained all the steps and demonstrated, then let my daughter try each skill herself. She let us take pictures of all the products she used so we could get the exact right thing later, and even gave us a few things for free. She was happy to let me take whatever notes, photos, or video I wanted... I ended up recording audio because that only took up 65 mb and I could set it down. I even got a chance to learn how to do hair curling, since my daughter would always need help in the back! Though Kary speaks English, her native tongue is Mandarin, and it was a fortunate coincidence that my daughter's been taking Mandarin immersion in school since pre-K. Offering me a time. I nearly immediately responded asking about pricing in which they thanked me for the prompt response and provided the information. I responded 5 hours later (after work) to ask to confirm. One week later, they messaged me saying they actually can't do that time and would need to bump me to a later time. Likely wouldn't have worked for my photographer time... but was waiting to see how long it might take. Then another week later, they responded saying timing will clash and that they hope to see me in the future. Bummed out but maybe if I offered a deposit upfront it could have worked. She has definitely had a lot of experience with people like me (Asian makeup-shy brides) and helped me put on double eyelid tape for my trial which was my engagement shoot. I ended up changing my look (part of the process!) from the trial -- I went for a more natural face with half hair up/down in curls for the trial and a more classic bun and a smokier eye the day of the wedding. I left pleased both days with my look and the make up felt very light throughout the day. Suri, her assistant, did the make up for my mom & aunts and everyone was really pleased with their make up there as well. I did a majority of communication through her husband Eugene. I cannot say enough good things about Kary. I don't normally wear makeup, and wanted to look nice on our wedding day but still feel like myself. Kary absolutely delivered and made me look and feel beautiful the whole day. I wanted a makeup artist experienced with Asian brides, but many of my bridesmaids (and future MIL) were not Asian, so I was a bit worried about that and how many people (10!) had to get their hair and makeup done. Kary and her assistant delivered with no problem, and Kary stepped in whenever anyone required additional help. All the bridesmaids and mothers were so happy with how they looked! I recently got married and had Kary do my makeup and hair and got the package deal of 12 hour service with unlimited touch ups for me and my bridesmaids and a bridal trial before the wedding. Eugene, her husband, was the person of contact and he was very easily reachable for any questions I had. Only a couple of days before the trial, I got covid and on a very short notice to reschedule they waived the fee to reschedule with them and was able to secure another date that worked for both Kary and I. On the day of the wedding, Kary and her assistant came to us in the morning and did the hair and makeup for me and my four bridesmaids. They were very efficient getting through all five of us in 3-4 hours. They were on time to both the place I was getting ready at and the venue. Kary was very attentive to detail and made sure I was looking good in every photo. She went above and beyond my expectations and did more work than fixing my hair and makeup. She was very attentive and brought the groom and me water after the ceremony while we were taking photos during our cocktail hour. She even stayed around me during photo shoots and didn't hesitate to help me with anything I needed. Some of the photos required me to walk on the grass that wasn't leveled, Kary was super attentive and helped me carry my bouquet or helped me lift my dress so that I could safely get into position when that wasn't even her job and I really appreciated the extra hands. She also checked in with me if I wanted any hair style changes at all during the wedding. I got so many compliments on my hair and makeup from all my guests. Kary was amazing and I would definitely recommend her to anyone looking for a hair and makeup artist not only for weddings, but for any event. 100 percent recommend Kary's private makeup lesson. She's extremely patient and the sole fact that she doesn't rush a customer out the door because the three hours are over. Props to her!!! Personally I thought the lesson was super helpful because she was so experienced and the topics we covered. Some of the things we covered was, how to make a clean makeup look, contour(customized just for self), highlight, eyeliner, blush and etc. As you can see, it's very beginner friendly. What I find super convenient is Kary speaks Chinese! Additionally, Eugene was top of his game. Communication for appointments went smoothly and they speak Chinese. Super convenient!!! read more

Working with Kary was one of the best decisions I made for my wedding. She was not only a great makeup artist and hair stylist, but she is extremely kind and caring and attentive. I had a 3 hr makeup and hair trial with her a few months before my wedding and we tried several different options, which helped me select what I wanted for the wedding day. She is very versatile and could do many different hair styles. It gave me confidence that I would look good at my wedding and that Kary would execute it well. On the wedding day, she showed up with another artist promptly at our hotel and she stuck by my side for 12 hours. She not only fixed my hair and makeup and made sure I looked good for the photos and events, but she also did anything that she could to help me out - fixing my dress, cleaning my dress if anything got on it, steaming my dress in the bridal suite before the ceremony, giving me water, making sure I was staying cool on the hot day, etc. Kary was like a best friend/bridesmaid/family member in addition to a makeup artist. Kary and her team have done a wonderful job for her hair and makeup services for a wedding celebration. From the beginning, communication with her and her team (husband) has been prompt. On the day of the celebration, she has kept us apprised of her current whereabouts (venue location is difficult due to a long, tortuous, one-lane road). She and her assistant have done a wonderful job in "beautifying" the wedding party, and Kary herself even helped with other non-hair/makeup things, i.e. adding extra padding to the bride's shoes to make them more comfortable, fluffing out the bride's dress during the photo sessions, etc. She has certainly gone above-and-beyond. Aw Kary. I am going to miss working with you! Kary and her staff were my friend's HMUAs and I found her work incredible enough to hire her for my own wedding. Her prices were extremely reasonable. Initially I didn't think I would need her around the whole day but it was a package deal so why not. Boy, was I wrong. Having Kary around on my wedding day was so much more than just hair and makeup. She was like my personal assistant: helping me pass on messages to other vendors when I was hiding in the bridal suite, pulling up my strapless dress when it got pulled down at times, fanning the train throughout the day during the photoshoots, and consistently touching up makeup for everyone and myself (especially after I cried throughout the ceremony). Honestly, I owe Kary and her team so much. She was worth every penny and more, and really was a lifesaver the day of my wedding. She made everyone look so beautiful as she's so talented and is just a sweet, kind person. When it came down to ceremony time and everyone was outside, it was even nice to have her in the room to talk to, to calm down my nerves. My now MIL who flew in from Taiwan could not stop raving about her makeup and how lovely and natural she looked (and she has high standards!) I could not recommend Kary enough to anyone.
