I like a lot of things about this place including the view, unique decor, outdoor lounge area and how it is just 1 block away from the main drag and is usually not crowded. That being said, every time I have been here it has been empty and perhaps too much of a hidden gem since it is in the Porto Vista hotel and noticed there was only a small sign on the sidewalk. I think this place has great potential and more visibility/marketing would help. The happy hour is pretty good here which includes drink and food specials. On this occasion We ordered the chicharrones & guac and Cali fries from the happy hour menu but opted for non-happy hour drinks including a mojito and a mezcal cocktail. To be honest, the food is pretty mid. I got some happy hour chicken wings which I ordered naked and the flavor is quite dry. But the service? Wow everyone is so so nice !!! The sweetest bartenders always checking to be sure I'm okay and they made a MEAN margarita. It was delish! I absolutely recommend for the prices and the view. Hardly any liquid over 3/4 ice. The bar tender said the other person called in sick so she was the only one working. Checked this place out on the 4th of July for dinner. Was seated by 830, ordered nachos, tacos and water by 835. 30 min later , still no water and no food. I went up to the hostess at 920 and asked for my two ice water and she told me if I can go with her to the bar. She hands me the cups of water and sat back down. At 930, I told her if I can just cancel my whole order as I have not received the food. She checks with the kitchen and was told it'll be ready shortly and I told her it's been an hour and to just cancel the order. I guess the only good thing out of this was that we were Able to see some fireworks from the restaurant's balcony seating. I think this bar should probably be shut down... the only reason it's in business is because it's attached to a hotel and it has a decent view of the water. I'm a local. We went on a Friday, 4pm-ish. First of all the elevator is rundown and we were pretty sure we were going to get stuck inside, luckily, no movement and no lights later... we miraculously made it to the 4th floor to Glass Door. We grabbed a seat, it was empty. The bartender told us there was no cook therefore food was unavailable. That was OK. Although we wanted a bite, drinks were our main mission. The bartender brought us the regular menu and would have been 100% happy to charge us full price- even though it was HH. We had to ask for the HH menu... Next, they were also out of the sangria which was 1 of 5 drinks available on HH. Again, trying to go with the flow, after all it's Friday after work. We get margaritas. I JOKE YOU NOT- this bartender gave us just the margarita mix. I have drank a lot of drinks in my life and this had ZERO tequila. My friend said the exact same thing. We didn't see him come around again and had to wave him down for the check. I gave him feedback about the drink and he made a snarky comment about how it did have tequila. I promise you it didn't. We had just come from a place that made a real margarita and what a difference. Do not go here. Do not let a nice website or a review of Happy Hour King fool you. This place is rundown and they do not make proper drinks. I blame the Manager of the establishment. This was one of the worst places I've been to for a drink in San Diego and I'm born and raised. This review is based on the location, drinks and service only! I visited Glass Door on a Friday night. It is located on the 4th floor of a hotel. There is one elevator going up. The bar itself is pretty spacious and has a great view! Their drink menu isn't expansive but they have something for everyone and tons of different liquor that I'm sure they can make any common drink you'd like. The place wasn't busy at all which was nice because we decided to grab a drink here before our reservations at a nearby restaurant. We sat outside with our drinks enjoying the view and noticed they had a cute little patio area outside. The bartender was super nice and turned on the fire pit when he noticed we were in the area. This is inside the Porto Vista Hotel and serves multiple purposes. The view is exceptional and the staff was friendly. The happy hour drinks were just okay. The happy hour food was fine overall with some hits and some misses. The duck fat fries were the biggest hit. Staying at the hotel we ended up here twice for some munchies and cocktails. Overall a satisfactory experience. This place also plays the part for hotel breakfast service. Swing and a miss on breakfast. Day one we arrived to find all the food was gone but pending a refill. The coffee and view helped to bridge the wait. When the food was finally refilled it was clear many had been waiting. By the time we went up it was very slim pickings on some very marginal food. It filled the morning void, but the next three mornings we opted out and were happy to pay for some quality food off premise. In summary happy hour is adequate and I recommend passing on breakfast. read more

Eating at the Glass Door is like dating a hot chick who is nice but lacking in personality, meaning it's all about the view, and Glass Door has nice boobs, metaphorically speaking, I mean. The view is great. So, my wife got the nicely plated Moroccan chicken skewers for $9. (Or you can go during Happy Hour and get them for $9). So, there were only 2. With maybe a cigar's worth of meat on each. That's $4.50 each. Or $1.50 a bite. In other words, their skewers inspire math. I got the nicely plated Sausage Flatbread. First off, it wasn't as described. The caramelized onions were not caramelized, and I don't recall the sunny side eggs as listed, and the sausage in actually soft chorizo. Second, the crust was the best part, so.. Yeah, if at least the drinks strong, I could forget about the food, but sadly the pour was a bit weak. The Beach Blast cocktail or whatever it's called was too sweet for a hummingbird, but at least they let me return it without a charge. The service is good, sure... In other words, with the positives going toward the view, decor, and plating, a blind person might give this place one star. read more

A frequent traveler, I'm never excited by the words "free breakfast buffet" at a hotel. But this was surprisingly good. Eggs - Actual real scrambled eggs. Pretty good too. Potatoes - Good breakfast potatoes. Sausage - Another surprise... very tasty Toppings for eggs - cheeses, salsa, tomatoes, other tasty things to jazz up your scrambled eggs -- very nice touch! Pastries -- weakest part of the buffet - not exciting and taste store-bought Fruit - some sliced melon Coffee/Tea/Juices And for some odd reason, the manager was walking around the restaurant offering toast slices. The place fills up so get there early. Buffet is every morning from 6:30 to 10:30. The view from the patio (counter seating only) is amazing! I really only came here because - well duh, FREE. But we were pleasantly surprised. Based on this experience, I'd recommend trying the Glass Door even if you aren't staying at the Porto Vista. read more

Located on the top of the PV Hotel is Glass Door. I always pass by and see people along the building overlooking Little Italy but I never took the time to stop by. I'm glad I finally did. It's a beautiful view and the ambiance is nice. I have never tried their food but I know they have BRUNCH on the weekends. I will definitely return to try out their specials and delicious dishes.
