I decided to start a new hobby in photography and bought my first camera with Glazers Camera. I love how their staff is like a family and reminds me of a mom and pop store. Even though i purchased my camera in the webstore, i wanted to go pick up my camera and look around their store. I went inside on a Sunday and it was packed with lots of people and could tell why there were that many people. The workers there, to me as a newbie, looked like they were knowledgable. That gives us consumers a lot of confidence in purchasing a product that we have no clue in. I wanted to give a shout out to Mike Estes. He helped me out a lot through email and even helped change my order and made sure I got my camera the next day I ordered it. The pick up register employees were very kind, when I came in she gave me a smile and helped me pick out a memory card for my new camera and took the time to go back and get one for me. Also there parking lot is awesome. Also their selection in Cameras, books, accessories was amazing. It was like a museum. Since my last 2 star review, I have been going back to Glazers and actually have given them quite a bit of money! But still, it's always a mixed-bag when I go. The guy who sold me my camera outfit was over the top helpful and knowledgeable and not pushy. It's a shame I can't remember his name. More than a few times I receive the cold-hipster-I'm cooler than you stare until I plunk down serious $$ for a lens and then they warm up. Their rental department gets 5 stars. He even let me take the camera outside to test out the lenses he recommended! He was super knowledgeable and provided great insight. I love this place, but there are some major flaws. For one, if you ask three people the same question, you'll get three different answers. Also, they hire photographers, who can be super narcissistic. (You get the feeling that they're working there because they failed at their artistic endeavor). As such, their pride is hurt and they direct that anger towards you. Why work somewhere if you don't want to be there? Oh, yeah-they don't have a choice because they failed at their photography. I have no clue how these people stay in business... You walk in their building(s) and the first thing you see is a jumbled mess, second thing you notice is how remarkably overpriced their equipment is. The sales people pretend to not notice you and when you finally approach them for help, brace yourself- it's like waking a bear from hibernation. You get a bitter snap with a glare as if saying 'why are you bothering me'? When you email in an order, forget about getting a response!! Try calling the rental department and see if you get the older guy who thinks you should know better than to place an order, or heaven forbid ask a simple question. I've been in the store on a few occasions and ran into the same experience every single time. I can't empathize with any of these 5 star ratings except fall under the suspicion that they are friends of the owner's or have been planted. read more

I love Glazer's. I am a professional pet photographer, work with digital, do my own giclee printing, and have made many purchases from Glazer's. OK- admittedly it's mainly ink, and much more often than I'd like (but that's an Epson printer for you), but I have dropped a good chunk of change there over time nonetheless. When I first started my business several years ago I felt intimidated going in there, being a girl and all with no formal photography training outside of a darkroom film class in highschool. It's funny, even though I never felt like a 'real photographer' it was the guys at Glazer's who helped me to realize that I really am one: after all- it's my fulltime job, I get paid for it- that kinda makes me a photographer. Instead of becoming more intimidated over time, I have become more confident in my abilities, thanks to the careful hand-holding by the guys at Glazer's. Plus they have dog treats for my dog Fergie (rock on!). (She loves Glazer's too). It turns out that ironically I did an art commission for Russ' dog Zoe, one of the great Glazer's employees, shortly before I started shopping there regularly. Russ introduced me to Alan, and Alan has been incredibly helpful and friendly with me even when he knows I have no idea what he is talking about. Alan set me up with the Canon EOS 5d (my first DSLR) such that I was out doing shoots for clients at Gasworks Park the very next day 'sans-problems'. FYI: aperture-priority, custom WB, evaluative metering, selective focus, etc, etc, I had down within hours, thanks to Alan's help. It completely changed my style, and my skillsets improved dramatically, I can't say enough good things about that shopping experience. I will see Alan and Russ forever and ever for my photographic needs. Neat store. Lots of stuff. Decent prices. Terrible customer service. Glazer's has not mastered the retail art of juggling multiple customers at once. At minimum, acknowledging that someone is waiting for service would be helpful, even with a simple, "I'll be right with you" but the employees do not even do that. I too, felt like I was treated like pond scum. I felt like I needed a resume that lists my skills, portfolio and 13 years of experience to reassure them that I'm not a "mom with a camera" before I could receive service that wasn't rude and sarcastic. A great store for any photography enthusiast - they just moved across the street to a new location which is very well organized. The store carries a variety of stuff ranging from Leica's to the standard nikons, cannon etc. Good selection as well on the accessories - I have picked up from here a peak designs bag and also a carbon fiber Sirui tripod for travel. The staff are knowledgeable but depending on who you get - can be super helpful or not. Hence the 4 stars. read more

We went here birthday shopping, I know how it sounds but sometimes you do actually have to talk to someone who actually uses what they sell or rent. The staff were really helpful, even through we told them we were looking for what would be a future gift, ie no sale today. They did not bat an eye and helped us, educated us and so the Birthday gift came from there. The prices were pretty close to the discounters and internet but you get service. I wished we lived closer, my bank account is glad we don't. Parking is a pain but the place is worth it. read more

I went to Glazers to purchase a new Canon Pro 1000 for my photography. I am recently retired and often find learning the technology side of photography very challenging. Bill Kuder waited on me and was enormously helpful to me in explaining how to get the best performance out of my printer and took me step by step through the process of setting up my printer profile, so I could include the high quality paper, which he also recommended and I find I love. All went well for a few weeks, until the printer stopped working properly. I called Bill and he advised me to call Canon and gave me the number. Canon listened to the problem and said they would send a new printer, which they did immediately. Bill emailed a few times and called to check on my progress! He was genuinely concerned and supportive. He was great at providing instructions and humoring me through the process. I am now a loyal customer of Glazers because of him and others at the store who have helped me find the right products for my level of photography. What I appreciate most is how committed they are to everyone with a desire to be a photographer. You can't get that kind of service from an online order. And you can't get the feeling of a photography community that supports people like myself who want to learn and grow in the work. read more

This place is awesome! The staff was super helpful and didn't pressure me at all. Even suggested that for my uses I didn't need the most expensive items they had. The sales person we were dealing with seemed more like a teacher when he was telling me the pros and cons of various equipment and even offered some tips on using things I already own. So finally tried the rental department and couldn't be happier. I was contacted by National Geographic to do a last minute press event in Olympic National Park, and needed a second body, and a 14-24mm wide angle to add to my kit. Couldn't of been a more pleasent experience. Walked in, asked if they had what i needed in stock, they did. Gave them my CC info, walked out the door 5min later with all that i needed. Best part, since i rented on a Friday after 3pm, i got to keep the gear until Monday at 10am for the price of one day. Which saved me a few hundred bucks. read more

Great if you want to check products out before you buy. The store is usually staffed pretty well. So getting help shouldn't take long. Was looking at some lenses but ended up waiting too long with no help showing up (maybe they were busy). Only one employee actually said hi and it was the guy at the front. Glazer's staff is very knowledgable and they have a very good selection of inventory. They have gone above and beyond for me on more than one occasion; once when I was looking for an item that they did not have in stock, they checked around and referred me to one of their competitors who did have the item in stock at a comparable price. I've also rented glass from them and was very happy with the condition of the lens and their rental rates. They sometimes get slammed with customers which can result in a bit of a wait, but given their selection and staff knowledge I'm more than willing to spend some extra time in their store. read more

Recently I purchased the Nikon Z 5 and a lens as they were on sale via an instant rebate. Unfortunately, I decided after a few days it wasn't the right camera for me and brought it back in pristine condition packaged such as it was when I got it. The return clerk admitted as much, but then she said she had to check the shutter counter which indicated I had pressed it 98 times. That apparently was enough to declare it "used" and thus subject to a restocking fee of 10%. I protested mildly that the return policy was not explained clearly to me, and to her credit, she lowered it to 5% and thankfully did not try to apply it to the lens. But here's the kicker: she applied the 5% to the list price of the camera, not the discounted price that I paid, claiming that once it goes back on the used shelf, the price will be based off the list price (in fact, the sale price was still current)! I should've argued more, but I was tired and already annoyed because I hadn't inquired carefully enough about the return policy when I purchased the camera. And the return clerk claimed that Glazer's strict return policy is now standard in the camera business. However, this is not quite true. I checked with their one regional competitor, Kenmore Camera, and they allow up to 200 shots without a restocking fee (Glazer's does not tell you how many shots they allow, but they must allow some or they wouldn't bother checking the shutter counter). Similarly, B&H confirmed that light usage during the return window is acceptable so long as it's returned in pristine condition. Bottom line - beware that Glazer's return policy is draconian. So much for buying local from small businesses, and I certainly won't be returning to Glazer's. read more

We used to order our camera gear from B&H and Adorama but once we started our business a few years ago and became religious about paying our Use Tax we lost a big incentive to buy out of state. Since buying all our gear at Glazer's we couldn't be happier. Some of the big reasons: 1) Rental department. Not only is it nice to be able to rent things for weekend shoots, but you can then apply the cost of the rental to purchasing the item if you decide you can't live without it. 2) Free loaners. If you buy a camera or lens from Glazer's and it needs to go in for service during its warranty period, Glazer's will give you a replacement from their rental department for as long as necessary free of charge. So if you're on the fence about whether to buy your next major camera from B&H or Glazer's...when you're thinking about the $50 you might save by buying from New York, consider that right now I have a free loaner Canon 5d Mark III for the next 4 weeks where I might otherwise be out thousands of dollars in rental costs to keep one in my kit while my original is shipped for repairs. 3) Use Tax. Not really a point for Glazer's...but if you're a professional and you're buying from Adorama, etc to save on sales tax, you DO know that the state can audit you and nail you for the Use Tax you haven't been paying right? Sorry, you're stuck paying sales tax if you want to be audit-proof. Thanks Glazer's. read more

My husband and I went to Glazer's to shop for a DSLR recently. We got a lot of good information from the salesperson who helped us, but... I was primarily the one shopping for a camera, and my husband was along with me. I asked a lot of questions and expressed preferences. But the salesperson, an older gentleman, addressed nearly all questions, answers and information to my husband. My husband even noticed, and said things like, "SHE'S the one who takes the pictures" and "she would know more about that" to direct his attention back to me, which would last about three seconds, then his attention was directed back at my husband. It was really uncomfortable and insulting. We took the information he gave us and proceeded to buy our camera elsewhere (Costco, if you must know). While there, I noticed another female customer being treated dismissively, too. I really wanted to support a local small business, but they need to get their act together when it comes to female customers. All the employees were male, too, come to think of it. read more

Well, the good news is that they have everything here that you might want for photography. They can be helpful, too, about how to use your new stuff. There are some snippy sales people, but most are not. The only thing is that the prices are higher than ordering online. I've bought equipment and had good experiences in the Glazers camera store (the one that sells actual cameras) but this review is for Glazer's Camera Supply store across the street. I've shopped at Glazer's Camera Supply four times now and only one of the people I've dealt with wasn't a rude jerk. I'm buying photography supplies and asking questions on how to photograph glass with an enclosure that they sell and they're short with their responses, give no advice and stand there looking at me like I'm an idiot. No need for attitude when I'm asking them what they recommend I buy from their store. No courtesy, no polite exchanges, just the "what else do you want from me?" look. Find somewhere else to buy photo supplies. read more

Don't know what it is about Glazer's but I've talked to more women who are pros like myself who complain about their sales peoples' arrogance and disregard for customer service, at least when it comes to women. I grew up working in a "camera store" so it's not like I don't know anything even with all the new digital gear but it doesn't seem to matter who you are or what you know. The folks in lighting are a different story, however. They are friendly and helpful and respectful of your personal knowledge and experience. So ladies, if you can find it somewhere else I'd go for it. Unfortunately, if you insist on buying local (which I do every chance I can) it's pretty much the only game in town. Too bad. I own a video production company in Seattle that specializes in producing live action business videos and I have to say that I'm very lucky to have a place like Glazer's Camera that sells and rents high-quality video production equipment in my backyard. Their prices are usually very comparable to the big online equipment stores if not the exact same, and the fact that I can actually go into Glazer's, play with the items and get my questions answered is exactly why they're always my first, and usually last, stop for sourcing equipment. In fact, the only reason I wouldn't buy something I needed from them would be because it was an item or product line that they simply don't sell. read more

Glazer's seems to be the only camera store in Seattle - or at least, the only camera store worth a damn. I'm not a hardcore photographer, not even close, but I was impressed by their two clean, well-stocked stores, and the customer service was excellent. All I needed was a couple of accessories for my point-and-shoot. I wasn't condescended to, and neither did they try to upsell me on anything. They gave me what I needed and let me go on my merry way. I wanted to give a shout-out to Bill in the lighting department. I went in to talk about lighting setups for product photography (I'm a jeweler and need to be able to consistently photograph new pieces for my website). Bill educated me on a couple of options and even worked with me to test them out in the store with my camera and a piece of jewelry so that I could be sure that the setup I was getting would work well for me.
