I have used the 3 departments frequently and had different experiences with each. The rental department provided great customer service, answered all my questions, were polite, etc. They are VERY strict about not being a minute late to return, they will lock the doors within a minute after closing. Can't say I blame them, I would probably do the same, but it's something to be weary of. The digital area has always been very helpful and good to me. I buy all my paper there and have bought a few printers as well. They always answer my questions and aren't snooty when you don't know something. At times it is very busy and you can stand at a counter with no help, but just be a bit assertive and they will get to you as soon as they are done helping someone else. One guy even knows my name and I'm not in there very much, very friendly. When I was a kid I went in a was ignored (back in the 90's) but I think they've changed their attitudes and I have positive things to say about my experiences in the past few years. Last is the studio/film building. This is where I go the most and buy all my film. Their selection on film is great! I have gone in a few times with inquiries and had a hard time getting help b/c the employee's were talking to each other or just gabbing to customers about the weather. If you need to ask questions or need quick service, it is very frustrating in this department to get help. I will say an older gentleman is very helpful when he's there and took a lot of time to help me sort out some studio lights when I was in the market. Each visit is different but overall they aren't enthusiastic and geared towards customer service in this department. I would say overall they offer great products and great services. Their issues (if any) have always been with customer service as long as I've shopped there. Most deparments have really stepped up the customer service, but some are still lacking. I do feel that when you are spending tens of thousands of dollars, you deserve fantastic customer service. Go in for a visit, ask lots of questions, and I'm sure you'll be happy with their service and knowledge. I'm a fan! read more

Good: * Amazing selection, one stop shopping. It's really the best camera store in the region. * Prices seem in line with internet prices on most items. Bad: * They always seem too busy to ask you if you need help when you're clearly waiting. You need to be really agressive to get attention. Oh, and a lot of the stock like flash cables is only behind the counter. * Have to cross the lake to get there from the Eastside. I went in to look for a camera tripod. When I explained what I needed (a tripod capable of holding up between 5-8 pounds, no other bells or whistles required -- this was for my paint pochade box, not a camera), I was told that a tripod burly enough to do this would cost at least $400. They carried a few cheaper ones, but those were all out of stock. I went to Talls' Cameras in the U District and spent 20 minutes with a very helpful saleswoman and walked away with a $150 tripod in short order. Glazer's may be nirvana for the camera professional, but us common folk will do better shopping elsewhere. read more

They have an incredible selection, there is no doubt about that! I have been in there half a dozen times. Every time I get the same impression. Even if there are more employees than customers, they are all too busy to bother with me, and if I'm not spending a thousand dollars then i'm a waste of their time. Of course it is easy to spend that much because everything in the store is several hundred dollars more than you can find it for anywhere else. If you absolutely need it NOW and money means nothing to you, this is the place to go. They will have it, they will overcharge for it, and they will make you feel like a jerk for wanting to buy it. read more

The immediate vibe I got when I came into this place was weird. No one greeted me, and it felt like no one was really paying attention to working, all of the employees were sitting behind the counter talking to each other. I continued down towards the canons because I was in the market, and got helped my an employee named Hunter, Hunter was very knowledgeable and proved to be very helpful in the buying process. After picking out a camera, they went to the back to fetch the model I wanted. Unfortunately they came back and told me they had none in stock... This is when everything went downhill. After trying to work with them on ordering me one, the best they could come up with was "we have no idea when our next shipment is"... so I brought up the possibility of buying the display camera, and an employee by the name of Darrel got very aggressive with me with why he would never sell a display camera... that's about the time I noped out of there, and ordered the same camera on amazon. AND GOT IT THE VERY NEXT DAY... So when they got back to me two days later (after I ordered and got my camera shipped to me) they told me they would have the next shipment by next week. I informed them I went elsewhere and promptly got hung up on... I'm all for supporting local business, but when you cannot keep up with the times, and cannot be courteous, you business deserves to be left behind. If you look at my profile and graph, you'll see how rarely i assign a one star to a business. Less than 10% of my over 120 reviews achieve this special honor. I'm pretty forgiving of mistakes and I like giving credit to genuine attempts to fix them. For me to rate you a one star, you have to be a truly remarkably shitty operation. The only way you're going to get a one star from me is if you delivered a memorable experience so below acceptable standards that I feel obligated to warn others, so market forces encourage the business to think about why it's in business. That's exactly the case here. Glazer's is a shady camera store that employs shady salesmen, who are more interested in luring you in than they are concerned about your interests as a customer. Don't be fooled by the shiny goodies and new storefront. A brick-and-mortar camera store like this can only sustain a profit long-term (amid competition from huge corporations) if it delivers what others don't: honesty and personal service. And it can't deliver these things. (See other reviews for a pattern.) For example, in January, I called their used department to ask about selling a camera. Spoke to Chad on the phone. I'm sure Chad remembers this. I told him the model of the DLSR I was selling: an Olympus E-1. I was looking for a fair price. I knew the going rate on ebay. I would have been fine with store credit even. He refused to quote me the price on the phone because they had a few in stock. He told me to come in. (Look familiar yet?) Okay, seemed reasonable. Figured I would sell my camera and spend about a $1K here. So, I came in early on Saturday with my 10-year old son. I was ready to spend provided I could sell my camera. Waited for them to open the doors. Place was dead. but, a half dozen camera salesmen were standing around like confused school-kids, chatting. Saw someone who turned out to be Chad. Said he needed to check the condition of my camera. So, he checked my camera. Said it was perfect. Lens was perfect. Body was perfect, but he refused to buy it. Said his boss told him they have too many. It was insulting. I was really disappointed. WTF did you check my camera for? Had to walk out with my son in disappointment and frustration. They watched me walk out. And kept standing around, as though this (solvable) customer service issue was unsolvable. Ridiculous. Fine if they didn't want to buy it. Could have said that on the phone when I called and spared me a waste of time. So, why didn't they? Either classic shady bait and switch, or they don't care about customer service. Either way, come here to browse and talk to experts, who like to chat and bullshit, but don't expect customer service from a serious retailer. After you get the skinny, check B&H or Amazon, where prices are likely better and deals loom. Or try Kenmore Camera. Buy in Portland and avoid the sales tax. Whatever you do, think twice about doing business with Glazer's. Like a used car dealer, just come inside. Then we'll talk. Ya. Never coming back. read more

I am from out of town and looking to purchase a new camera and a few lenses because my entire camera bag was stolen. I noticed the photography class on Saturday morning. My GPS guided me to the wrong part of Seattle so I was about 10 minutes late for class. There was one empty chair. However, the rude employee came up to me and said I could not stay because it was $50 and it was sold out (even though I was looking directly at one empty chair). I explained to her I understood it was $50 and I was there because I wanted to buy a new camera. She still told me I could not stay and had to leave. What?? I want to spend money at your shop and you tell me I have to leave?? What a welcome to your city, Seattle, and your camera shop. To add insult to injury, I went to the store manager to inform him of what happened and how I was turned away when I told her I wanted to buy a camera, (thinking he would help, or at least ask me about my camera needs) but he just said, "sorry"! They are not really geared towards the beginner, and might not be my first choice for someone looking to buy a $300 digital point-and-shoot. Stopped here while visiting Seattle to check out the Panasonic GH2. They only had a demo unit in the shop (I was surprised they had even that!), but they were happy to let me play with it, swap lenses on it, and then answer my many questions about it. I also pestered a worker about tripods and played around with point and shoot cameras for about an hour. In my defense, it was raining outside, and I didn't want to go back out and get wet. I ended up buying a small Canon P&S, after I tried out three different models, borrowed an SD card and looked at test shots on my laptop. The people at the store were quite helpful, and knowledgeable about various camera systems, and they never seemed to up-sell any of the customers. I'd love to have a shop like this near where I live. read more

Love this store. Went in today needing some neutral density filters that would work with my "new-to-me" 1996 Hasselblad 503cw. Katie was fantastic. She spent a good, long time going through drawers and drawers of used and new adapters to see what would work, and helped me find the most economical solution possible. Then gave me a sweet discount on a used prism finder, and THEN the best part: She dug a 1996 Hasselblad 503cw manual out of their Hassie drawer, and said, "you can have this if you want it, we don't have a camera like this for sale right now so nobody is going to need it." Um...that little move right there just saved me countless hours worth of Internet searches for bits of information about how to operate my little German treasure box and make it do cool things. I've searched and searched for an online version of this particular manual and come up with nothing good. She handed me the golden little book, and made my YEAR.
