I went here because I've driven by for years and they get mostly good reviews on the Roast beef sandwiches. On my day off I was craving a north shore beef sandwich and both Peter's super beef and Beachmont roast beef recently closed. I was looking for my new Local Roast beef shop. Glen's will not be the place. While the service was great and the place was clean and inviting, the food fell far short of my expectations. I went at 12:15 on a Thursday so a wait was expected also the 10 minutes I waited for my big beef and a pizza roll was a pleasant surprise . The meat looked to be cooked fine, and was tender and pink. It lacked any seasoning or noticeable flavor aside from the James River bbq sauce. A nice roast beef should have great natural flavor plus some seasoning. This more resembled boiled meat rather than nicely roasted meat. It was peak lunchtime 75 minutes after they opened but the sandwich was cold. In my opinion a place that names itself after an iconic local sandwich should have hot roasted beef's being sliced fresh at lunchtime not pre cooked cold sandwiches. I would much rather have waited 15-20 minutes for a hot fresh flavorful north shore roast beef sandwich. So at the end of the day my search for a local go to roast beef shop continues. read more

The best cheese pepper steak with onion submarine. It brings me back to my childhood when I was living in Boston over 25 years ago. I also tried the roast beef three ways which comes with mayonnaise, bbq sauce and horseradish. That was also amazing. Additionally, the size of the sandwiches were unbelievable huge! As reviewed. First experience of a north Boston steak sandwich. Has quite a different feel. Kind of like an Arby's big Montana with more tender beef that disintegrates as you bite into the sandwich. Went here tonight got the cheese steak sub and chicken fingers n fries. We were disappointed the steak n cheese was very dry and not enough steak which did not even fill the roll. The fries were over salted which ruined them. The place was very neat and clean. Dining area was very cold. The guy was very nice and polite but the food was lacking. We were starved, googled food nearby as we headed up to Danvers. Glenn's popped up, and we swung in. Donald met us at the counter with a grin and nothing but kindness. I ordered the "Big" Combo, and let me tell ya, "Big" is an understatement. Grab 3 times the amount of napkins you think you need, and dive in. Glen's kind of became my wife and my roast beef go-to by accident. We were headed north from Boston and wanted to grab some wine at the liquor store next door. We love the classic North Shore roast beef 3 way and have had them all over - so when we saw Glen's we thought we should give it a go. We haven't looked back since. The service is incredible - and it's wonderful to see hard working family ownership manning the floor every day. The atmosphere is clean and classic what you'd expect at a North Shore beef spot. I would just say awesome but it isn't enough characters for a legit review. This is maybe the most unique sandwich place I have ever visited. The roast beef is delicious, crumbled onto a bun with cheese, sauce and a little mayo. The Junior size was perfect for a late lunch. My wife enjoyed every bite of a chicken kabob wrap - basically a Greek salad with chicken, Cooked to order. I shouldn't even look at French Fries but when they come up so perfectly crisp on the outside and golden brown, resistance is futile. The staff is terrific, well versed in the menu and happy to serve. The establishment, in an unusual and small cinder block appendage to Kappy's liquor store building, is immaculately clean. I'm not often in the area, so it may be a while before our next visit. But when the opportunity presents itself, I will be back! read more

Began our visit, highly recommended to Glen's, being greeted by a very polite young man at the counter who helped explain the menu...specifically what a 3 Way was (roast beef, BBQ sauce, cheese, and mayo). Which we both ordered. Thankfully I ordered a junior which was the perfect amount of food. My husband, however, ordered a large... which wound up being too big for him. They slice the beef thinly and it's nice and rare with great flavor. We also ordered a side of fries to split. Nice and hot and crispy. Really good experience from start to finish. Hidden jem if you ask me. We will be back. The facility itself was clean, with booths and tables, plenty of trashcans as it should be the responsibility of the diners to throw away their tray when finished. There were a few TVs and with it being lunch the news was on. Restrooms were clean and tended to. read more

Live in Boston, family in North Shore. So I've toddled back&forth up Rt 1 more than a few times. The previous restaurant in this location failed to impress, especially in its final days. This place is AWESOME. Kind of tough to get to, but absolutely worth the trip. The sandwiches and onion rings are so delicious, but messy! Take some extra napkins! They're open and serving food during COVID-19, but the seating area is closed, so plan to take this order to go or eat it in your car. Becca and Brendan: Tucked away on the side of route 1 next to the Kappy's liquor store, Glen's Roast Beef almost gets lost amongst all the highway drive thrus and restaurants. We have been craving an authentic roast beef sandwich since our other favorite shop closed down (RIP Roast Beast Brookline) and this place looked like the real deal. It has a large menu but all you need to know about is the roast beef sandwich. This is the kind of place where the employees aren't afraid to tell you how the sandwich should be ordered--and frankly, they're right. They recommend you get it with cheese, mayo, "sauce", and mostly importantly extra napkins. I wish we had a picture to post but this sandwich was devoured as soon as it was ready. Tender, juicy cuts of roast beef piled high on a soft roll. We got this sandwich x2 so far during the COVID pandemic and it was nice to get a flash of normalcy. Only 10-12 minutes outside downtown Boston, we highly recommend this place to anyone who likes good food and good company. read more
