My family and I had an impromptu lunch at Kelly's while walking around Revere Beach. I have wanted to try Kelly's and this seemed like a great opportunity. Kelly's is very close to the beach (closer to Wonderland T stop than Revere). It isn't a restaurant (no seating option) but a full kitchen. We had four plain roast beef sandwiches, an order of onion rings and an order of fries. Kelly's isn't cheap, that order (two of the sandwiches were larges) was $60.00. I didn't mind paying for it because the food was very good. The food came out fairly quickly, portions were good and the workers were friendly. The roast beef had a lot of flavor. The lines were a bit chaotic. Our online order seeemed to have forgotten but I'll take 15% of the blame for participating in an online order. Kelly's requires a bit of research. If you just get the regular sandwich it's ok but sauceless. In its favor, the lobster roll is so good you'd think it was from a crustacean specialist, not a meat seller. Roast beef sandwich was sitting on counter getting cold. I asked for a new one that was hot since cold beef is unhealthy. Was told it was switched out. It wasn't. Sandwich was cold. Kelly's in Revere -- What Happened to the Whole Belly Clams? Today I ordered what they consider a half-pound of whole belly clams. What I received was mostly clam strips, along with dozens of grease balls--batter with no clams at all. Not only were there virtually no whole bellies, but I was also charged $38.52 ($36.00 +tax) for what amounted to balls of leftover batter and no bellies. I was so disappointed that I brought them back to the counter to show the employees. They acknowledged that they were "batter balls," explaining that they were runoff from the batter. I ate most of them until I realized what they were. Please see picture If I wanted fried dough, I would have gone somewhere else. Unfortunately, Kelly's in Revere has really gone downhill. The service is slow, and the place has become commercialized, feeling more like another fast-food chain than the Kelly's I remember. Stop by for a quick bite to take to the beach. Food isn't the greatest, but it gets the job done. The toast beef doesn't come with any sauce so it was a little bland. But still good. I hate leaving negative reviews, but I feel people should be aware of my experience. I visited the Revere Beach Kelly's Roast Beef and ordered a sandwich. After taking a bite, I realized the bottom of the bun had mold on it. Unfortunately, I had already eaten part of it before noticing. I even took photos because I couldn't believe it. I contacted Kelly's about what happened. They did process a refund, which I appreciate, but I never received any apology or acknowledgment of the situation. Finding mold on food is a serious issue, and I expected at least a response expressing concern. Mistakes can happen anywhere, but customer service is how a business responds when they do. I'm really not happy with the new small tail on panko fried shrimp, they're horrible they look and taste frozen like vandicamp supermarket fried shrimp. Why would you remove the best butterfly shrimp that any restaurant had. Yeah I know price of fish went up, charge a couple of bucks more for what Bostonians like and want..I've been going to Kelly's since I was a kid on the beach I'm 62 and to see these things happening makes me very sad.. I went early to be sure I didn't miss my pickup... well, the staff taking orders and packing orders didn't have a clue what they were doing. After waiting 30 minutes and watching people who ordered at the window after I got there getting their food I inquired about my pick up order. It was buried someone in the twilight zone, food was cold, drink was warm (and exploded when I opened it), fries were supposed to be well done and they were barely cooked. Kelly's Roast Beef in Revere just isn't what it used to be. The chili was watered down, the fried haddock sandwich was soggy, and the only thing that was halfway decent was the cheeseburger. I waited about 50 minutes for my chicken tenders in an almost empty restaurant, and nobody -- not even the manager -- said a word about it. I love this place but order ahead or the wait for your food can be pretty long, and its hard to find parking. Food is always the same, good food, I know what to expect. Its a to go place, unless you wanna eat in the few chairs they have outside or the beach. I always go occasionally if im home and passing by. Gone so downhill. Ordered the Surf and Turf for about $34. Asked for medium rare, shaved roast beef. It was cooked more than well done, and the mini lobster roll had a layer of lobster meat. If you squeezed the roll, you could have sealed it up completely. I asked for all rings instead of rings and fries, and the portion of rings was what it would have been if the fries were next to them. They used to fill the lobster roll and replace the fries with more rings. I'm being generous with my 3 stars because I'm a nice guy, and the service was very good. I was standing in line with a few other customers and all I heard was grumbling about quality and price. I foolishly ignored them. I have been going to Kellys Revere Beach for over 50 years. Not sure if I have the right words to explain what was going on here. First off I noticed the prices are not posted anymore and you have to ask for a menu. My usual was always a fish and shrimp combo for around the mid $20's. It is now called a seafood platter for $33.50. It was a plate of horror. The fish was just a block of pre frozen block of off smelling, not sure what it used to be. The shrimp was not any better. I wanted a second opinion so I offered some to my dog. I like the food here. I was very impressed with the variety of options of seafood, chicken and beef. I went with the obvious choice (roast beef) and onion rings and fries. The bread on the roast beef sandwich is very well toasted. It's was soooo good. The roast beef is real meat. The barbecue sauce is like Arby's but way better. The fries and onion rings are quite good. The restaurant has been a big part of the community for decades. It's not super fancy, but the food is good and the service was friendly. You can order at the drive through if you wanted to. Definitely worth a try. I think I would like to come back and try a couple of other menu options at some point. read more

Never going again, used to go constantly but haven't been on the North Shore during the winter, went to the Danvers location today, ordered a medium fry to share with my dogs, was told now they had only small and large, so ordered the 9.95 large and a sandwich to go. They don't prepare it to go, shove it out on a tray. The large fry is smaller than the medium fry used to be when they sold a medium size fry order and the fries are some crunchy coated mess rather than what they used to serve. Twenty three bucks for a sandwich and fry and the food stunk. I've been coming to Kelly's since the 90s and it's been a regular stop whenever I'm going to Logan or a game in Boston. In that time I've brought numerous customers, family members and friends here to enjoy what I considered the best roast beef sandwich and fries in the country. Well that was then and the fact is now they have lost their way pushing quality aside for profit. It took me 3 visits to write this review thinking it was just a bad visit but today convinced me otherwise. I stopped with two other friends who I've brought in the past, our shared experience of how far they have fallen matched up. Starting with fries. They were once plump, large, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The appeared fresh cut and many had the potato skin to show their freshness and were delicious. Kelly's has moved to coated fries similar to burger kings that have no resemblance to quality and certainly no flavor. They for lack of a better term suck. All three of us ate just a few and left the rest. Strike one Next what put them on the map, the roast beef sandwich. Well even that has gone through some changes and not in the good way. The meat no longer has that unique Kelly's flavor and was relatively bland while appearing under roasted when compared to past visits. The sauce no longer had the familiar tang the three of us remember but instead tasted more like it was being extended with fillers. The buns once toasted came raw which allowed the sauce to quickly make them soggy. There was plenty of meat on the sandwich just not a Kelley's quality product. After three tries I'm throwing in the towel and going to look elsewhere for a great roast beef sandwich. It was a good run but a familiar outcome when a business forgets how it got there as it expands. Hope they figure it out before the other regulars move on. read more
