BBQ pork ribs, coleslaw, and French fries
    Laurie D.

I met some girlfriends here for lunch recently. They have a large parking lot, which was nice! When I first walked inside, it took a few minutes for my eyes to adjust as it was pretty dark. I ordered one of the lunch specials, which consisted of BBQ pork ribs, coleslaw, and French fries. I substituted onion rings for the French fries, and I'm glad I did. My meal was absolutely delicious! They have a full bar, but they don't offer any specialty cocktails. Live bands play some evenings, and this place has a great vibe! We all enjoyed our lunch, and the service was excellent! I can't wait to go back!

The large street signage and to some extent the Spanish inspired building with red tile roof does not even give a hint that Glendora Continental serves rustic Basque cuisine very similar to what would be called The Set Up in Bakersfield. The Basque people live in the border areas of Southwest France & Northwest Spain which they call their homeland Euskadi or Euskal Herria. They speak Euskara which is not related to any other language in the world and call themselves Euskaldunak. Originally, many Basques who came to America were sheep herders & farmers so the legacy food tends to be filling and heavy to last them through the day. Glendora Continental's Set Up is just a bit more abbreviated than what you would find in Bakersfield, one of the few centers of Basque culture besides Boise, Idaho. But you will not leave hungry and probably have enough food for lunch the next day. 1) Bread is a light sour dough French bread with tough skin & soft inside. Hard butter straight from the fridge reminds me of the 1970's and back. 2) Soup du Jour was thickened New England style Clam Chowder. Light seafood & chicken stock with good chunks of chewy clams, potatoes, milk. 3) Escabeche/Pickled Tongue is ultra thin slices, lightly grilled to give a rough texture. A light vinegar based herb dressing with viscous olive oil was the pickling agent to this enticing, gamey, beefy dish. 4) Prosciutto was definitely not from Parma nor San Daniele, Italia and neither from the famous Jamón Serrano from Spain, but good enough for a ham sandwich the next day. Balls of butter were thoughtfully included to spread onto a future sandwich. 5) Bouchée à la Reine is a Vol au Vent/flight in the wind since the light, airy, cup shaped pastry seems to be able to float in the air. It means Queen's Bite or Morsel and refers to Queen Marie Leszczynska, wife of French King Louis XV. The filling is a ragoût of aromatic button mushrooms & possibly mild, meaty, soft chicken liver in a Sauce Suprême, a Sauce Velouté with added thick cream. 6) Half Rack of Lamb is tastefully presented with the delicate ribs poking up like a crown and delectable meaty chops facing down. Ordered medium rare to keep it juicy, plush, and not hard & dried out. Really strong, toasty, garlic scent to add to the lamb meatiness. Even a small cup of neon green mint jelly which was not Basque but a concession to American sensibilities. I opted for the big Baked Potato with everything: sour cream, onions, bacon. Side of steamed and then sautéed mélange of vegetables. On another visit, the latest potato choice was Scallop Potatoes which was so over baked that the top half was hard & dry. 7) Blue Cheese pre dessert: Excellent Roquefort like blue cheese full of salty Umami and that blue mold flavour. Almost double cream rich dairy sweetness. Seasonal Fruits were aesthetically arranged and a gooey pecan caramel decorated the dish. 8) Flan is very light, moist, not funky yolky in a pleasantly bitter sweet, caramel sauce. I took the Flan home and drizzled Amaretto di Saronno for special almond aromatics. Sampled the Chocolate Mousse that reminded me of Jello chocolate pudding whipped up to add air in to lighten the texture. Emma, our waitress was friendly, affable, cheerful, who made sure our meal progressed smoothly. At $46 this multicourse, Basque feast is a deal. Go straight to this on the menu. Otherwise, the only other alternative is to drive 130 miles to Bakersfield although I hear that there is another Basque eatery in Chino. 4+ stars PS Tried to reserve on their email system on their website and also left voice messages to confirm reservation since no one answered the phone call. No response back ever, so just go and ask for a table.

Glendora Continental is FOR SALE from what I've read & I feel sad. I'll miss my favorite prime rib dinner. I love Glendora Continental & enjoyed their Basque inspired recipes. I'm hoping for the best for Glendora Continental .

Walked in to the bar side of the restaurant and stood around looking for a hostess. A customer walked by and said to just walk in and sort of find a seat. I guess they don't necessarily have a hostess on that side of the restaurant. Once seated I ordered the prime rib with shrimp bisque and Danielle had a wedge salad. The bisque was very good and the prime rib wasn't bad. A local establishment that you should try at least once. 3.5 stars rounded up to 4.

Who knew there was a Basque restaurant in Glendora? Or anywhere else in Los Angeles County for that matter? Not me, until Super Elite Yelper Gary I. brought this fact to my attention. Unfortunately, this was because of an LA Times article about the restaurant being sold after decades of serving the area. Wanting to try the menu before it might disappear, we made dinner plans and enjoyed our meal a great deal. The restaurant's decor doesn't seem to have changed much since it opened; lots of Basque art, 80's decor, and family pictures on the walls give it a retro feel. It features a bar with live music and a dining room for meals. We began in the dining room, each ordering the Basque set-up which includes: soup of the day (I ordered white bean, clam chowder was also available), bouchée à la reine (puff pastry crammed full with savory mushrooms in sauce), prosciutto, pickled tongue, half-rack of lamb with vegetables and French fries, bleu cheese and baguette, as well as dessert (flan or mousse). The soup was delicious, and the appetizers were fantastic, served in truly generous portions. The rack of lamb was covered with fried garlic, and cooked perfectly to the requested medium rare. The only room for improvement was dessert; nothing to write home about. Definitely great bang for the buck, though, and a filling meal. Service was super prompt and very friendly. We then adjourned to the bar for a nightcap. Unfortunately, the bar ran out of the ingredients for the famous Basque drink of Picon punch but seems to have lots of other liquors/beers available. The band was super loud, but there's an area for dancing if you're so inclined. Lots of locals seem to enjoy the place a great deal...let's hope the new owners pay attention to that. Ample free parking in the lot. Hurry, in case it's sold soon!

Amazing service especially on a Friday night. The hostess Isabella was phenomenal and seated me quick and was extremely attentive the entire time, also the waitress Liz was really kind and phenomenal, will come back again 10/10 amazing for a dinner rush time, well set up place and order is there , amazing !!! Salmon was amazing and the crab cakes and the restaurant had a nice little atmosphere to it, really calming. Oh and the chocolate cake was amazingggg

Left me a message and when I called back, I was told 4:30 is not a viable appointment time!? Ridiculous
    Natalie L.

Made a reservation, they called me back to revise the time. When I called back, a rude bartender answered "I don't care what they told you, we do not accept appointment at the time you said"!!! First of all, don't enable the website reservation feature if you don't have a sophisticated process to make sure the time selection is within your schedule. Secondly, own up to the mistake you made or at least try offer a solution instead of being rude to your potential customer!

We had only been here for lunch and wanted to try out their dinner menu. When we walked in, we could see and hear the bar area was busy. The manager greeted us, and we were promptly seated. He was very pleasant, and we enjoyed his humorous demeanor. Our waitress Jessica was even more pleasant and jokeful. We loved the atmosphere they both created. We each ordered our various dishes, and we were not disappointed. The food was hot and tasted great! We definitely will come back!

Unfortunately only one server even though the owner was there. And only a few tables with few guest. As I sat down, there was a long black hair on my plate under the napkin. I mentioned it to the waitress and she laughed and said is there someone under the table who did that. I really didn't think it was funny. Gross! And she just removed the hair. She had her hair in a ponytail loosely. Table cloth was dirty. Then we had to keep getting up to ask for certain things. Even though it was requested when ordered. It seemed like the waitress was in a hurry not patient at all when questioning about the menu, irritated. Mushrooms in garlic butter were delicious. Salad was good amount. Ahi tuna very dry and hard. Prime rib over cooked and hard to chew. Vegetables were good. Not too soft or too hard just right. Potatoes good flavor. Crème brûlée had a 1/2 teaspoon of mango with made it very tasty. 1st time for me. But my friend has been coming here since who knows when. He said unfortunately, Service has gone down hill.

Stephanie and Lydia, co-owners, were manning the front and kitchen areas of this intimate wine and tapas bar. They're both excellent hosts, very friendly, and love to discuss their love of food and wine. It's not a huge place, with intimate indoor and sidewalk seating areas. On street parking is limited, but there are two parking lots behind the building, off the alley to the east. One lot is covered and has a handicap spot; the other lot is open. WINE: The current wine menu (see my picture) has a good selection of Latin inspired wines from Latino winemakers in Mexico, South America (Chile and Argentina), and the US. The wine list changes and as they continue to grow, they'll be adding more selections and countries/regions. Wines are sold by the glass and bottle. If you ask, they'll pour you a taste before you order to see if you're going to like that wine or not. My "Open Bottle Red Tasting Flight" was just $15 for three generous pours of Pinot Noir, Carménère, and Malbec. Glasses range from $11 - $15...very reasonable. FOOD: They offer "Bites, Boards & Platos Fuertes", which are tapas style and shareable plates that pair with your wine selection. We shared a couple of orders of the Empanadas ($15 for 3), which were baked perfectly. We tried the Beef, Chorizo & Queso, and Queso & Membrillo (Spanish cheese with quince paste...great as dessert). We also tried the Brie con Miel ($14) and the Puerto Rican Picadillo ($16) served with rice. Everything has great flavors and is quite delicious! Overall, this is a vibrant, fun little wine bar with great service, food, and vino. We're glad that they're here in the neighborhood and I can't recommend them highly enough.

It was only a 2 minute walk from where we were so we decided to check it out. On the outside was a holiday themed drink menu and the Butter Me Up sounded like something we'd enjoy. It was a cookie butter latte which whipped cookie butter and a cookie crumble on top. It may sound very sweet but it was actually perfectly balanced and allowed the strength of the espresso to come through. The barista was very kind and patient with us. She also let us know that they were hosting a karaoke night later that day. We waited in the patio connected to the cafe for our drinks. Today, my friend and I ordered a Coke and an ice water and sat in the lounge area to work on assignments. The café was far from full, with only a couple of other people in the lounge and plenty of open seating available. After about an hour, the owner came over and rudely told us we were "holding two tables over a Coke" and pressured us to order more. I understand businesses need customers to make purchases, but there is a respectful way to communicate that. What made the situation worse was that after I ordered a coffee, she immediately turned to my friend and basically stared him down with a strict look, clearly expecting him to order something too. I explained that we were going to split the coffee, because we're both trying to lose weight, but she continued making the situation uncomfortable. Staring down a customer and making them feel pressured to spend more money is not how you treat paying customers. What makes this even more frustrating is that the menu is already severely overpriced for what is offered. On multiple occasions, I've heard the microwave running while food was being prepared. Paying premium prices for what appears to be microwaved food is disappointing enough without being pressured to spend even more. Even though we only ordered a Coke initially, and have only done that once before, we were still spending money. As regular customers who come here often, you would think that would be appreciated rather than criticized. Be thankful people are still choosing to spend money at your business. Honestly, after today's experience, it's no wonder this place is often empty. Customer service and hospitality matter, and making customers feel unwelcome, guilty, or pressured to spend more is a great way to drive them away. The interaction was uncomfortable enough that I asked for my food to be packed to go and left. Unfortunately, I won't be returning. It's a cafe, not a 5 star restaurant. People want to come here to work on assignments or have a coffee and talk. Even though I didn't want to spend 9 dollars on a coffee, I still purchased something. Edit from her Google response: Now you guys see what type of owner she is by her response. Truly, truly a fake person, and we always spend money coming here (now she wants to lie and manipulate since I have her attention). I always purchase a coffee and more, and I have receipts to prove it. I do not use her WiFi for free, as I am not a rude person unlike her. I don't just order a soda like this owner claims; see my receipts on my credit card. My friend and I ordered drinks and were talking and doing assignments for about half an hour (while she and her waiter came up to us like 10 times to ask us to order, even though this is a cafe), even though we said we would order later. If you're broke, just say so, lady. Trust me, at this rate, this place will close down soon. Like I said, this is a cafe where people come to have a drink, relax, talk, study, or work on assignments; not a restaurant where customers are expected to order a full meal every time they sit down. We purchased drinks, planned to order more later, and were still repeatedly approached and pressured to order. Please do yourself a favor and stop lying to the public. I did not come here four times and just use the WiFi. I paid for the WiFi with my extremely expensive and disgusting coffee and food, which is shown below in the receipts. I did not buy $2 sodas every time. The receipts I attached are from my card, but on many of the other visits my friend paid with his card and spent just as much. So trying to claim that we were sitting here for free or only ordering a soda is simply not true. Now that I have proved you wrong in front of the public, I hope everyone sees you for who you are. You are a money-hungry liar! Lastly, you are right; you're not Starbucks. Starbucks would not treat customers that way, and I'd much rather spend my money at Starbucks anyway.Glad we're on the same page!

The waiter said, "Oh, that's no problem, we can get you started until she arrives." Very polite and catering. So my daughter gave their meal order while they were on the phone. And if you know ANYTHING about Bostonians, you'd know we're from the fish seafood capital of the world. "WE LOVE US SOME SEAFOOD" I moved out to L.A., CA, In 1965, now living in Glendora, CA., and I've been wanting some great eastern style seafoods since. We took the wife and our two grown daughters to lunch yesterday for Mother's Day, at the Clubhouse 66, on Root 66, Glendora, CA and enjoyed every minute. OUR EXPERIENCE: Food - Service - Ambience; GREAT... - You enter the establishment. - State your reservation. And the waiters are standing in their black suites, upscale like, as your party is guided to its table. Two of our party(family members) arrived a few minutes after us. While we were settling in, the waiter asked if we were ready for drinks, my daughter said, "Oh, we're waiting for my sister and niece to arrive, they're almost here." The waiter said, "Oh, that's no problem, we can get you started until she arrives." Very polite and catering. So my daughter gave their meal order while they were on the phone. Anyway, when it was my turn to order, I ordered one of the Signature Plates: PISTACHIO CRUSTED SALMON: (Pan-seared salmon with sautéed vegetables in garlic and white wine, served over mushroom risotto and finished with a beurre blanc sauce.(even had a couple of artichokes cut up). The skin was real crusty and meat tender and flavored. ($29.99) Oh, Magnifico... For the life of me; I have NEVER had a Salmon dish that Magnifico in any restaurant in ALL my world travels. And let me just say that; I've traveled to Eighteen(18) different countries; including & throughout the U.S. My mouth waters just thinking of it. I also tasted my wife's, CHICKEN LINGUINE: (Grilled chicken with artichoke hearts, roasted tomatoes, and a creamy sun-dried tomato pesto sauce.) It was just as delicious. Oh and; without a doubt & without hesitation, if you want to go out for a great meal, you can't lose going to Clubhouse 66 in Glendora. And I have to admit; at first, when reading the menu, I was thinking the prices were kinda high, until the meals arrived and slid by my taste buds. It's definitely worth it, and i highly recommend Clubhouse 66. DEFINITELY 5 STARS... HECK; I'd give 10 STARS if it were available....

The restaurant was able to accommodate my party of 21 people with minimal notice. We had a section…read moreall to ourselves for my daughter's 1st bday. The service was excellent provided by Hugo and Aisha. They were super attentive and friendly. Hugo took really good care of my guests. Food was pretty good. There were a lot of options for kids and adults. I would recommend for events!
