I explained that there's a whirring sound when I started up the car, and he managed to squeeze me in. I dropped off my car the next day and I mentioned that I live in Kapahulu and was only in Waipio for a couple of days for work. There was clear communication and expectations from the beginning. He also went out of his way to move his schedule around so that they could start working on my car and finish as soon as possible. Pro tip: It's cash only ($25) for a safety check. A few weeks ago, I went to a dealership (which will remain nameless) for a routine servicing. Aside from paying $660 for the service, they identified two items that needed to be fixed. The biggest was that my AC system was leaking and would shortly begin to blow hot air. The dealership quoted me a little over $2,000 to fix the AC. There was no way I'd be able to afford that so I went to Glen to get a second opinion. Glen was again one of the most honest people I've dealt with. He shared that he didn't have the machine to make the fix and also recommended that I stick with the dealership, since private repair shops would use aftermarket parts that don't last long. However, Glen went further and recommended that I contact a specific service rep at the dealership and let him know that Glen referred me. A week later, I called the rep that Glen recommended and told him the issue. A day later the rep let me know that after looking in to it, he could arrange the fix for $500. A week later the fix was completed for under $470; less than 25% of the original quote I received. I'm so appreciative to Glen for his kindness, honesty, and assistance that saved me over $1,500. My first review on Yelp and it has to go to Glen's Auto Shop. My van had a slow leak and it look like power steering or break fluid leaking so I was panicking. Didn't want to have mechanical failure of not being able to steer or stop on the freeway. I called number of auto shops around my area and got answer machine or no pick-up but not Glen's Auto. Glen answered and squeezed me in his tight schedule. Got my van fixed the same day and it is now running great. Glen is a genuine professional and all about taking care of his customer and not taking advantage of situation. Approximately 4 years ago, our Odyssey van (only 3 years old then) started to "shimmy" like crazy upon accelerating. In desperate need for a repair, went to the dealership where we purchased our van and were told that we had to change our motor mounts...so we did...costing us over $1300!!! As I drove the van right off the lot and accelerated, it began to shimmy again! So frustrating! Years went by and we could not find anyone who could give us a straight answer about what the cause was. Fast forward to earlier this year: We were referred to Glen by my in laws family...and I am so glad we found our family mechanic!!!!!! We called and he immediately was so informative and accommodating with our schedule. Upon arriving to his waipio shop, we were promptly greeted. This review is so overdue, I'm embarrassed. I've been waiting for my husband to help me write it because he knows all the technical stuff Glen did to our car. Since I can't wait anymore, I'll have to write this review without too many examples. I just want others to know how honest, knowledgeable and fair Glen is. My husband's best friend owns several autoshops in California so we always call him whenever we have car issues so he can diagnose the problem and/or give us a quote on how much repairs should cost. Glen's assements and cost are always on point with our friend's quotes so we know we are dealing with an honest mechanic. These days, finding an honest, knowledgeable mechanic is similar to finding a four leaf clover; they exist, but are very difficult to find. There are times when something would be wrong with our car and Glen would suggest trying cheaper repairs to trouble shoot before escalating to a more expensive repair. This happened to us when we couldn't get a hold of our friend before we contacted Glen. Once again, his recommendation echoed our friend's suggestion. Anyway, if you're looking for an honest and fair mechanic who knows what he's doing, you should give Glen a chance. Just be aware that his shop can be a little dfficult to find because it's tucked away in the back of a big mix-used plaza. This guy is awesome when it comes to fixing cars. He's VERY thorough and VERY miticulous, almost like...wait...just like it was his car....he's honest about his work and points everything out to you the work he has done and doesn't bullshit you. In addition to that he would call us when he would find things that would need repair or not and wouldn't push us to fix it. We just asked him, was it necessary in his opinion and a lot of the time he said no, you can wait but just expect it to be needing to be fixed possibly later. He specializes in toyota's and honda's but he works on all types of cars. The shop is small, almost garage size, and it's located in a tiny corner of a auto body shop. One word of warning, he charges normal labor rates, he'll go at honest ASE man hours (the automotive mechanic standard) and he'll work, trust me..he wont charge you for hours he isn't doing. He also will strongly recommend genuine parts on very important parts in the car, but you can request for non-genuine parts. You wont regret going to him, he's thorough and meticulous and someone you can trust. We wont go to anyone else! read more

Loud rattling coming from the undercarriage of my SUV. Called Glen on Wednesday to see if I could bring in my car on Saturday. He had a pretty full schedule but he fit me in. I get there, meet Glen, and drop off the car. Since the diagnosis and repair might take anywhere from at least 1-2 hours I decide to walk to Costco to kill time. Before I even left the complex Glen calls me and tells me to turn around and come back. I get there and he's under my car removing a broken clamp, which was the cause of the rattle. He replaces the clamp, turns the ignition and the rattle is gone. To top it all off he graciously waived the cost of the repair. Glen of Glen's Auto Service is accommodating, friendly, fair, honest, and efficient. Quality is important to me and I made the right choice in seeing Glen. Glen is by far the best mechanic I ever had. Not even the dealership technician or agent beats him at customer service. I brought in my car for a "deadly sound" cited on some online site on car issues. I noticed my car made a low humming noise which I've never heard before. I read somewhere on the interwebs that it was a "deadly sound" and it could be the wheel bearings so I immediately needed to bring my car to a mechanic instead of the dealership. I chose Glen's Auto Service as it had 5 stars on yelp and his reviews were great and helpful. He specializes in Honda and Toyota and has had his business for 15 years. I didnt want to go to a dealership anymore because I knew cost wise I will spend more. Glen is located in Waipio which was convenient for my drive down from Mililani. Glen was super accommodating and took my car in with no scheduling issues. Over the phone he was more than helpful. He knew there was a overturned dump truck on the H2 southbound at that time and he mentioned that I would be stuck in traffic. I already knew about the accident prior. I thought that he was very informative in the sense of caring for others. So my arrival to the shop I expected that he would be meticulous and thorough as he sounded like he was very detailed oriented. I get to his shop in no time as I rerouted through Kam Hwy instead of H2. Believe me if I didn't know about the accident I would've been stuck for hours. I met with Glen and he was very professional. He needed to look at the car and drive it to know what was wrong and would call me with an estimate and when it would be done by. He had a few cars to work on before my car but he called me after a couple of hours with the diagnosis. Glen actually diagnosed another problem that needed to be fixed right away. He explained very well with the issues and I knew he was very experienced as he described these issues to how I can understand. He also included his past experiences with past clients on certain parts and what should be used and what brand should be used. That reassured me knowing that he knows his stuff. He also knew his schedule and approximated that he would be done either by the end of the day or by next morning. His estimate was actually not that bad for what I was expecting. This was refreshing because I've had my share of repairs and I always experience angst because of high cost. I actually felt relieved that Glen is caring for my car and not treating it as a production and influx of money as what dealerships do. Glen even reassured me that if my car needed to stay overnight, my car will be in the garage, has security system and that a security guard checks every hour at night. That assured me that my car would be safe from thieves. Glen was done with my car at the end of his closing time and I was not near the area to pick my car up. However he mentioned that he would be coming back to the shop after 9 pm and would be more than willing to meet. He normally doesn't stay late after closing but what luck I had with him. Since my fiance wasn't with me earlier, Glen was more than willing to explain what he fixed on my car to my fiance. I was thrilled that he did. Half the time I don't know what is what with cars. My fiance thought that he was really personable and a nice guy. Plus he was amazed how well he knows his stuff. He was even thinking of bringing his car in for his next car issue. My wife and I began taking our car to Glen when we moved from the mainland four years ago. Our car is over 11 years old. He has replaced a number of major components during that time as well as performed routine maintenance. The service Glen provides is nothing short of outstanding. He is incredibly thorough and knowledgeable. Glen takes the time to explain what needs to be done--and what doesn't. He recognizes that car repairs can be expensive and he does his best give advanced warning about repairs that need to be made in the future--but can wait. We have never felt pressured to make unnecessary repairs: he cares about his customers, their budget, and their safety. During our last visit, he took the extra time to remove the mountain of camping and beach paraphernalia we keep in the trunk just so he could check the spare tire (which was all-but-flat).
