Over the years I have used Glenview Key & Lock, Reed Brothers (Oakland), and Rex (in Berkeley). All provide good work, but Glenview has been extra helpful every time. I usually have questions and they are so personable about answering / offering options when I needed to figure out something. Today I needed a replacement for a lost key. They were so helpful over the phone, explaining how we could proceed and then checking back with me later to give me further options. I also prefer the quieter neighborhood where it is very pleasant to look around and maybe get something to eat. (Metered Parking on the main street, but if you can walk a couple of blocks there is free parking further up Park or on the side streets.) So.. I've returned to Glenview for any work since 2009. Excellent service from the very beginning. When I called, the folks on the phone were very pleasant, efficient and helpful. I was happily surprised by how fast they could send someone out ( I called around 9:15, they promised someone by 10:30; the technician was able to arrive early, having first called to see if that was ok); he was starting to work on the locks by about 10:10) When Dan, the lock technician, arrived he was pleasant and efficient. He expertly fixed two locks that were giving us trouble in a short amount of time. He also explained what had happened clearly. I will always turn to these folks when we have issues with our locks. The Glenview lock team worked magic today! Have a front door handleset and the inside door lever suffered a broken spring. The handleset is no longer made, so it was dicey in terms of having to replace the whole assembly and maybe not matching the original door cutout. Debbie was enthusiastic and challenged by trying to find a spring replacement (apparently no walk in the park.) She said bring it in to the doctor and we'll put it on the operating table. Couple hours later, a call from Debbie: score! It took a third try but they got the spring replaced. They're Gods, I'm tellin' ya! read more

Bought two keys online for my Honda with no guarantee they would work. They cut and programmed each key for $80, and reprogrammed the valet key for free. Friendly, knowledgeable local business with good prices. Can't beat it. read more

I just had Sterling come out and re key my house and the service was beyond great! Not only did he show up on time but it took less than 30 minutes to have two doors re keyed. Sterling took the time to walk me through how one of the locks needed some finesse and was just an extremely helpful and friendly guy. For 5 keys it was only $105 dolllars plus the service call......much better than my expectations. Overall the experience from the time I called to the service was top notch! I went to this place to get key copies made for my new apartment. I arrived at 5:15 and they told me they were closed, despite the doors being open and several people milling about. I pleaded with the lady because I needed the keys made asap. She responded very rudely and I left. They were celebrating their 30th anniversary and, as this was my first time going, I obviously did not rank high enough on their clientele list to receive service. If you are a first time customer, who is not from the glenview community, I recommend avoiding this hokey, little establishment. Go to HOME DEPOT instead. It's only 5 min away and you won't get treated like an outsider. read more

My Lexus key broke, and it has a transponder with a computer chip. A friend suggested Reed Brothers in Oakland, and they quoted me $85 for the key plus the cost to cut it - over $100 in total. Went to Glenview and they had me a new key in five minutes that worked perfectly for $43. How much better can that get? Have used them in the past, and they are always good. read more

In the past Glenview Key was very reliable. However, I recently asked for an estimate for a couple of keyless locks and found they that their way of operating has gone downhill. They came out to have a look at the installation locations but then never got back to me with estimates. I called them after a couple of days and was assured they would get back to me. I have a couple of old front doors with fussy old (and dirty on the inside) mortise locks. Jeff at Glenview did a fantastic job of fixing and cleaning them. I also make thicker than standard doors and Jeff and Debby have been fantastic about taking time to find the small parts I need to make deadbolts work with these nonstandard doors. I've also never had a key they made not work perfectly. They're as good as it gets. read more

I love these guys! They have never failed me with all my old cranky door hardware and difficult keys. I've tried getting keys cut for our very old front door lock at Ace Hardware and Home Depot. None of which worked. Glenview cut 4 keys for me that are still perfect 6 years later. Today, when my 1913 door lock finally failed, they took the time to explain how I could extract it and bring it in for them to look at - saving the expense of a house call. Called Glenview Key and Lock early Sunday morning to fix our front door lock which had jammed the night before (almost couldn't get into our house coming home late Saturday evening). Dale came out within 15 minutes of the call, fixed the lock and charged a very fair price, without any "add on" for the Sunday morning housecall. Sterling just came out and fixed my Baldwin mortise lock that had broken and had a broken key lodged inside. He was super nice and calm and friendly. He explained everything he was doing, told me I could get a different size key if I wanted, and gave me a huge amount of useful information as he extracted my key and fixed my lock. I am embarrassed to add this, but when I called to make an appointment immediately after I broke my key off, I was sort of hysterical and could barely manage to explain what was wrong. I tried OSH first but they had a limited selection of blanks and could only copy keys that the automatic key copying machine could handle. This company is fantastic. My son had lost his keys to his camper shell. I called around and was told I needed to go back to the manufacturer. I called Glenview and gave them the number on the lock. They couldn't find it but said to bring it in, they would open it and install a new lock. Their guy was a real problem-solver. When I got there, he saw the number an realized he had misheard me. He created a key in minutes when everyone else said No Way! In my opinion, Glenview had the greatest attitude and outstanding customer service. You won't go wrong with them. read more

We have used Glenview Key and Lock before, as we have a very old (1896) house with a lot of old doors, locks, and doorknobs. Glenview really knows old door hardware. Dan is the technician who came out this time, and he patiently fixed four different doorknobs and latches that had were all behaving badly in different ways. All work beautifully now, and to add icing on the cake Dan kindly carried my disabled dog downstairs to the garden for me, and back up again, as I am temporarily disabled myself with an injured back!
