After I wrote my last review I was contacted by the owner of Glenview and she was very concerned with my negative experience and explained that she was aware of this certain locksmith's attitude and was working on it, since he is a really good locksmith (which I totally agree with). She apologized and refunded me the amount of the extra lock. This experience completely eradicated the negative experience I previously had. A little pricey for key copying, in my humble opinion ($2 a pop), but the owners were super friendly and spent a lot of tim trying to figure out if the garage door openers they sold are compatible with my garage. I brought a lock assembly from a motorcycle saddlebag in to have the cylinder taken out and put in the new one. I was looked up and down, and after about a 10 second assessment told "No Thanks I'll Pass" and to "take it to reeds". Shortness, no eye contact, no explanation and worst of all no service. Guess I should come in looking more like any of the ladies with the 5 star service reviews instead of working class motorcycle rider. Counter-person at Reeds Security had my cylinder picked out and swapped in 10 minutes. they will forever get my locksmith business. read more

I manage several buildings in Oakland and needed a locksmith today. I usually use Reed Brothers but they said they couldn't get to it till Monday. I sent my request in the day before. Then Reed Brothers was going to charge $500 to go after hours ( it was 3:30). I called Glenview locksmith and they went out no problem for a total of about $160.00. A great deal. Great fast service. Was recommended by our realtor. Called them today (Saturday) to set up an appt to get the house rekeyed, figuring maybe early next week, and Dale C was able to squeeze me in between two scheduled appts today! Was $85 for one set of locks, 4 keys, and friendly service. All the keys work perfectly. No extra charge for weekend service, but that may depend on whether they are already in the area. Slightly weird part was had tried scheduling an appt earlier with a woman and she claimed there WAS an extra weekend charge... Anyway, would recommend them! read more

Went to Glenview to get two lock rekeyed after my house keys were stolen. We have Baldwin locks and they did a super job rekeying the locks and cutting the new keys (on the nice, heavy Baldwin blank that make it so easy to tell which key is which). The staff is professional and their price was the best by far (2/3 of Reed Brothers). What really impressed me, though, was the obvious pride they take in their work. Locks and security are important to them and they want to do a good job. I was really impressed. As a followup, I called and asked them for a recommendation for a security system and they didn't hesitate to recommend a company that they compete with for locks. I used Glenview to do the locks in my house, and was very satisfied with the quality, service and price. I then used them to install a lock on a massive (4x6 beams), custom gate. There was a misunderstanding and the lock got installed too high up on the gate. After stating that the vertical gate beam had to be replaced at their expense, they paid to fix the gate. Great company to work with! I called on a Wednesday with a job that needed to be completed by week's end. The owner of the company, Debbie, came out that day to provide me with a quote, which she did on the spot. On Friday, a technician came out and completed the job on time and for just under $600. They were tidy and swept up all the wood shavings and didn't leave any sign they were ever there, except for beautiful new deadbolts on my doors. From beginning to end, every person that I worked with at Glenview was polite, friendly, competent, and provided great customer service. Impressive place. Huge inventory, professional staff, and each time I call a live person answers the phone. Very different than most lock/key places which seem to be one person shops who use voicemail to take calls while they're in the field maybe... WAY better than the big box stores, or OSH, where I've found myself going back to get the keys re-done because they don't work. Sigh... We are having a problem with a painting company who had access to our front door key. Glenview Key and Lock sent someone out who re-pinned our locks, replaced an old cylinder in a mortise lock so it could accept a matching key, and left us with locks that work more smoothly than before. Set up a time (not a window , but a real time), took afternoon off-time came..20 mins went by, I called "oh wow she didn't call you? she is about 10 mins away" I wait another 20 mins I call again " I can't believe she didn't call you (this is the boss coming by the way), she says shes 6 mins away. I wait 20 more mins...I call again (yeah, I am that stupid) and again " she should be there in 3 mins, so sorry". I say- "not as sorry as me , if she isn't here in another :15 I am leaving". my landlord sent glenview out to fix my door, which unexpectedly stopped latching, resulting in 4AM creepy self-opening. @_@ another tech came out first but then had to leave, and debbie (the owner) came by less than a half hour later to finish his work. debbie was super knowledgeable about why the issue was happening, and powered through the fix quickly. she even offered to look at and then fix another sticky lock, wd-40'd a few keyholes, and gave advice on my neighbors lock. she was kind and friendly, and a total pro. i totally recommend her! read more

Great service! We needed the old locks refurbished on the door when we opened our business three years ago and they did a great job with the least expensive solution. Now when those old locks got tampered and finally failed they came out same day and got it all fixed and secure for less than quoted! Plus threw in some keys and fixed another issue no charge! These guys are great! My wife and I bought a house recently and as a safety precaution we decided to re-key the entire house. The problem is we only had the key for the front door and the other doors needed some work. The locksmith not only re-keyed the whole house, he made most of the keys work on the same key. I made the appointment late Thursday, for the following day (Friday). Dan called a few minutes before the scheduled time to let us know he could get started. Not only did he start, he fixed a nearly 100 year old lock and deadbolt that was about to fall out of the door and took care of another troublesome lock.... at at a very reasonable price. Dan was really polite and patient throughout the whole visit and walked us through the completed work afterwards. All this on a Friday at almost 5:00. What a pro. Every time I remodel I have my house locks changed. I always call Glenview Lock and Key. The owners are really friendly, and the person they send always knows what to do and how to do it. In fact, I remember about 8 years ago when I locked myself out of my (then) condo: I called them, and they came over and opened the door right away for me. They're a bit on the expensive side, but I consider it money well worth paying for superb reliability and technical knowledge. read more

Got home, put my key in the door, unlocked it, pulled the key out and the cylinder came with it!?! Called them at a friend's recommendation, though I think I've used them once before years ago. One of the guys on said, oh yeah, we can fix that. If you can, just take it off the door, bring it in and we'll replace the pin that fell off the back of the cylinder. WHAT? You know exactly what went wrong? As a somewhat capable screwdriver-wielding person, I took the deadbolt assembly off the door, seeing the broken pin in the parts I took out (!) and brought it to them. $10 later I was walking out the door, happy and fairly confident I could put it back in my door. (I did). Thanks Glenview for making this a relatively painless experience. I didn't have to pay for a locksmith to come out (cha-ching), I didn't have to buy a new deadbolt assembly, and they were knowledgeable and helpful. read more

I was looking to get some duplicate keys made for the old lock to one of the doors in my old house. I tried 4 hardware stores, both big box and small town, and was told the same thing, "we don't have this shaft." Some did so politely, others not so much. One of the polite ones had a business card for Glenview Key & Lock. I didn't think to try a locksmith; boy I'm so glad that I did. Not only did they have the shaft for my key, they made the duplicates really fast, for a fair price, and with a smile. I have called on Glenview Key and Lock many times over the years of owning my building. They are friendly, competent and so knowledgeable. One time I went with another lock and key place for some reason because I got locked out. The guy that came out futzed with the lock a few moments and then wanted to pull the lock. I could tell that was that company's way of doing a job. I have had Glenview out and they will work with the lock and hand cut a blank as they work the tumblers. Over the years I have used Glenview Key & Lock, Reed Brothers (Oakland), and Rex (in Berkeley). All provide good work, but Glenview has been extra helpful every time. I usually have questions and they are so personable about answering / offering options when I needed to figure out something. Today I needed a replacement for a lost key. They were so helpful over the phone, explaining how we could proceed and then checking back with me later to give me further options. I also prefer the quieter neighborhood where it is very pleasant to look around and maybe get something to eat. (Metered Parking on the main street, but if you can walk a couple of blocks there is free parking further up Park or on the side streets.) So.. I've returned to Glenview for any work since 2009. I've meant to write a Yelp review in the past and finally doing it today. Very easy to get there off of either Route 13 or 580. (I like convenience, quality of work, and nice people) read more

I have been going to Glenview Key and lock for over 12 years and unfortunately my last experience was very disappointing.. An older gentleman was not very patient explaining how the lock I brought into him for repair was damaged and how it would go back together. He went as far to say that, "I told you 4 times, now 5 times how this lock works". I realize the situation was frustrating, but it should never come to a point to tell a customer this. I just wanted to understand how the problem occurred, and how to prevent it in the future and this gentleman was not listening to my questions. I realize these people are professional and it is clear to them how things work, but it wasn't to me and I don't think how he handled the situation was at all professional. All I was asking for was for some patience and for my years of loyalty and recommending of their shop i was hoping they would continue to treat me decently. Perhaps it was a bad day, but at the end of the day this experience will cause me to think twice before I call them. read more
