I purchased a replacement surface bolt on line that was made by a company in the UK but needed more than the two keys that came with this purchase. I was surprised to learn that Glenview Key and Lock did not carry blanks for this key. I was even more surprised when Sia from Glenview Key and Lock took the time to call many other resources in the US and in the UK over a period of several days until she found a source for the key blanks that i needed. With my best interests in mind, Sia told me how to order the blanks myself, thereby lowering my costs. We needed to change our locks very quickly due to a change in our house cleaner. They made an appointment for Friday morning when I called late Wednesday afternoon and arrived a little before the appointed time. I had sent pictures of all our locks ahead of time, so Sergio arrived with all the equipment he needed to do the job - took less than an hour in all. He was even able to replace the upper lock on our front door with a safety lock so we are protected in case of fire should someone accidentally use that lock from the outside. The customer service here was fantastic. I had accidentally backed up with a bike on my roof racks into a small overhang at my apartment. This caused my rack to pop off without any other noticeable damage (luckily). Needless to say I became rather stressed and in the process of trying to unlock the other parts of my roof rack I broke my bike rack key inside of my roof rack. I called them and asked if they could remove the broken piece and they told me to come on by. When I showed up they were very helpful and we ended up removing the whole rack setup and they took it inside and worked on it for a short time and were able to remove the key. As an onsite residential manager, I have used Glenview Key and Lock several times a year for the past 7 years. My experience using them was great until this past year. In the early years of using them, I was able to make a quick phone call to schedule a re-key that would take place within a day or two...sometimes the same day. The representatives were always courteous, friendly and I felt valued as a customer. The last few times I've used them however, I was made to feel anything BUT valued. I have always had a pleasant experience with the actual service on site...but the representatives scheduling my services have been rude and act like they are doing me a "favor" by getting me on their very busy schedule. On Monday, I called to schedule a re-key of my building...keys were stolen from a tenant. This is an urgent issue and puts the entire building at risk. I ordered 20 of the same key to be cut and wanted to schedule the work asap. The first representative tells me that he has to call my Property Management Company to get approval. Keep in mind that this is NOT a policy of my agency...AND this is not the first time I've had Glenview re-key my entire building. This IS however the first time I have been told I needed special authorization. The representative would not even schedule the work until he verified with my agency. "Ok fine" I said "Contact my agency". He hung up after saying he would call right back. But 5 minutes had passed and I needed to schedule the work before going into a meeting that could not be interrupted. I called back and got another representative. I explained what was happening and asked if I could schedule the work and I would make sure they had the 'approval' they needed prior to the work being performed. I asked if I could pick up the new keys the following day (Tuesday), then schedule the re-key for 2 days later (Wednesday). He cut me off mid-sentence and said they were completely booked. That we would have to look at scheduling the work the following week. Again...I'm sure that they have busy schedules, but a locksmith who is not available for a week? It is very possible that they have become so busy that they truly don't have time to accommodate a re-key within 1-2 days. Glenview has just lost my building as a client based on my experience this week. This business is apparently too big/busy to care about the people who have brought them consistent business for the past 7 years. If you are looking for a quick, reliable locksmith, I recommend using Reed Brother's in Oakland. read more

staff was very helpful and didn't try to upsell me when I was upgrading the locks on my front door. They have a bunch of fun do-dads on the wall, and I ended up buying some little files and picks that will come in handy around the shop. Just because the box stores are selling the same brands as your local lock smith, don't assume you are getting the same locks. If I ever need locks again, know where to go. read more

I went to Glenview Lock and Key to replace a "sticky" and worn cylinder for my front door lock. Don was able to quickly replace the lock cylinder and he gave me extra tips on reinstallation. He inserted the original cylinder's key hole piece so that I could use my existing door keys. Don loosely assembled the lock system so that I would understand how the pieces fit together when I reinstalled the lock on my door. The cylinder was an inexpensive part ($15). I appreciated Don's advice. He was very kind, especially given my novice-level handyman skills. read more

If you want to see WHAT CUSTOMER SERVICE is REALLY LIKE, THIS PLACE! Called them and asked about a realtor style "lockbox" and they said, "come on by, we have them." Showed up, and they pointed them out to me, rang me up and then showed me how to set the lock. Cool Beans! In and out in 5 minutes. Everyone in the shop was friendly, why go somewhere else? They were working on repairing a lock on a desk drawer, making keys and of course helping me. read more

Wow! Locked myself out and took a brick to the backdoor lockset. The lock is keyed the same as seven other locks at the house and I was positive I wasn't going to get away without spending at least $150. I called Montclair Hardware and they recommended Glenview. I took the brick adjusted lock to Glenview and in five minutes I had a new lockset that was keyed the same and matched my other locksets for about $50 out the door. Locksmith guy was cool too! Glenview Lock and Key to the rescue again! A couple of weeks some SOB's had the nerve to break into our garage, which was locked with a hasp and a padlock. They cut off the padlock and forced back the hasp with a crowbar or something. And what did they steal? MY EARTHQUAKE KIT! It took me about 6 months and about $350 to put that kit together - it was the creme de la creme of kits and I was actually hoping I could use it some day. Among other items, it contained clothes, blankets/towels, a crank radio, heavy duty flashlights with extra batteries, camp stove, sterno, food for us and the cats, tools, tarps, first aid kit, money, etc. Truly a thing of beauty. And stolen by some junkie who probably ditched the damn thing after finding the cash in there. But our garage will never be broken into again, thanks to GKLS. My hon of hons husband bought a freaking heavy duty metal bar thingie that he screwed into the door and this super duper padlock that you use a key to open. The locksmith told him that she groans every time she gets a call to open one of those padlocks since they are just about impossible to open without the key and impossible to saw off. As for me, I'm busy assembling the next earthquake kit. read more

It was crazy. I asked to get my lock rekeyed and he just put it through his beard and pulled the lock out in the correct specs. No, but seriously though, this place was a clutch place to get my car door locks rekeyed on a Saturday afternoon. He rekeyed it in all of 30 minutes and made me a spare key. I was quoted on the phone $35, but apparently that price is PER lock. Still, at $70 total, this is about half the price of anywhere else to stick some new tumblers in. read more

After much search for a decent locksmith, I came upon Glenview Key & Lock. I had been there about two years ago to have an antique piece of mine get a new lock and key...they hooked me up within half and hour, no lie. Well, time passed, had forgotten about the place, until I needed some locks for my house. The appointment was fast and painless...and the keymaster of them all, Dale (and his brother), showed up at my house, went through a quick review, and handed me an estimate (which was very competitive). Dale also noticed both my security doors, he nicely and professionally informed me that they were cheap Home Depot doors, and that a simple wire cutter could easily cut through the thin screen. Well, I made a quick google search, and he was right, any low level thief could easily go through those doors. So I told him I was indeed interested in new heavy duty security doors, gave me an estimate the next day (I found the prices pretty good for the quality of the doors), and we struck a deal. One week later, the new doors arrived, Dale and his brother professionally installed the doors (in about an hour), and boy, they looked awesome. it would take a bazooka to go through these new puppies, lol. I now have piece of mind. Dale and his brother are courteous, professional, and they know what they are doing...they both rule. I HIGHLY recommend you go to Glenview Key & Lock for all your locksmith needs, whether it's a small job, or a big one...they will treat you well either way. I used to have a negative perception of locksmiths based on my experience of being gouged by several. Dale from Glenview Key & Lock changed that and I will be using his services going forward. I was in a pinch to have my lock changed ASAP as I had just lost keys. Dale squeezed me into his already tight schedule and on a SUNDAY to boot. He was prompt, courteous, professional and FAST. I've never had such a pleasant experience with having my door re-keyed. Dale gave me high quality keys, the lock works smoother than ever and he was a pleasure to interact with. This is a review for their tech, Robert. I'd been having an issue with my front door lock that resulted in frustrating lockouts on my part. Turns out it was a minor problem (screw loose in the inner lock) but Robert was able to come by on a Saturday afternoon about 3 hours after my initial frantic call to Max at Glenview and was able to fix the problem in a jiff - much appreciated on a weekend, last minute request. One piece of earlier feedback re: Debbie, the owner. She had come by our place around 8 or 9 at night to finish fixing my neighbor's mailbox lock about a month or two ago. Because it was pitch dark outside, she had to use a flashlight and accidentally entered our front entrance which was a little alarming as she'd been trying to access the entrance for a few minutes in the dark and we thought it was a prowler at first. When I first moved into my home this was the only store that carried the key blank that fit my old mortised front door lock. Today, I finally replaced the super sketchy double keyed deadbolt above to simplify not needing two keys and you know where I went... Glenview Key and Lock of course. I spoke with the two professionals grinding through a stack of keys for the new school and they outlined my options and prices. Turns out the owner purchased a few dozen compatible locks from an old company just before they went out of business several years ago and this was just the thing that would fit the bill. Glenview is located near our recently purchased home so we asked them to change the locks during the construction phase. It was hard getting a date. And, even though I mentioned we had several doors to do when I made the appointment, they needed two visits to get it done. Quality was marginal. The locks are hard to open. I have only come to get keys duplicated, but the guy who works here is super nice. It's easy to get keys made and they accept credit cards which is awesome. My deadbolt lock just stopped working (the key just spun around). Glenview was highly recommended by the folks on NextDoor so I called them. They gave me a quote over the phone which sounded reasonable to me. FABULOUS! Sergio came out (the nicest guy in the world) and was able to repair the lock. After wasting two hours of my time buying mailbox locks from another shop (they sold me two locks that didn't fit, despite that I gave them my old lock to match it with, and I had to go back and forth to return them) - I decided to try Glenview. Thank goodness I did - the staff was friendly and fast, the shop is located in a nice neighborhood of Oakland, and most importantly they sold me the right replacement lock which FIT on the first try. I've used this locksmith a couple of times and there are distinct pluses and minuses. As far as accomplishing what you need to accomplish, in my case a key duplication and keyless car entry controller battery replacement, they were able to get the job done. The second plus is that when I called them they were helpful and pleasant on the phone (it was a woman I spoke with). This woman as well as the other interactions I've witnessed seemed courteous. Now for the negatives. The parking is a nightmare in this neighborhood so unless you get lucky, prepare to hike. It's a charming little neighborhood so if you're not pressed for time and you could use the exercise, no big deal. The biggest negatives are that the two 30ish year old men who helped me (one on each of two occasions) didn't even attempt to hide their pure disdain for me. Being that I don't have privileged access to anyone's mind, I don't know if I reminded them of someone, it was a case of a bad day (in both or either case), or they just did not care for my kind. One time? Ok, I thought it was a fluke... two times in a row? I'll try to find another locksmith even it's further away next time. Oh and they tend to be closed for an hour or so in the mid afternoon, even though they appear to have multiple employees. read more

Today a guy named Sterling from Glenview Key and Lock came to fix the locks on my sliding glass doors. He was courteous, friendly, knew exactly what the problem was. He didn't try to sell me new locks because he knew how to fix the problem. He was quick and efficient doing the repairs. He explained what was wrong and what he did to remedy the problem. Called them around 2:00 in the afternoon and they were here promptly by 4:00 (when they said they would be). Took them 15 minutes, they changed 4 locks, cut me two sets of keys and were on their way.
