I can no longer recommend global bikes with good faith. They have let me down twice this year. A few months ago, I called to schedule a bike fitting appointment. I had to wait a couple weeks for the appointment and right before, they called and canceled. This was super crappy since I had made the appointment due to extreme pain and numbness during riding and I really needed help. After they canceled, they never called to reschedule or follow up. This month, I reserved a bike rental on October 3. I needed the rental for a bike race coming up in November. About two weeks later, they canceled my reservation with no explanation via email. I responded to the email with the request to call me as soon as possible, but never heard back from them after several days. I had to call and found out that they had sold the bike I was going to rent and they have no other bikes available. Now, I am stuck in a lurch with no bike for an upcoming race. I had 2 separate and very frustrating experiences with Global Bikes that I believe reflect deceptive and untrustworthy business practices. On a Tuesday, I called the Chandler location (spoke to Nick) and was quoted a "sale" price of $450 for a specific bicycle. When I arrived an hour later, Nick says that the price tag of $450 was a mistake. He refused to honor the price. Just a few days later, I found another bike listed on their website on "sale". I called the Ahwatukee location to confirm availability, only to be told by Thomas that the online price was incorrect and would not be honored. This happened twice in one week, at two different locations, with two different employees, and two different bikes. That's not a one-time error -- it's a pattern. Whether it's intentional or just sloppy, it feels like classic bait-and-switch behavior. I did end up purchasing a different bike from them out of necessity, but I absolutely would not recommend this store to anyone. There are plenty of other bike shops that are more honest and reliable with their pricing. Shop elsewhere. read more

I wasn't impressed with this store. I called a few days earlier and wasn't impressed then either. I didn't feel the person on the phone was very helpful, or was even interested in helping. I got the same feeling in the store. The store is clean, well set up and has a fairly good sized repair area. Two people working, both busy with bikes. Lots of bikes in the store, but as a person new to bikes, I had no clue what I was looking at. They also carried: helmets, gloves, tires, tubes and other misc supplies. I felt like I was disturbing their work and I was reluctant to even ask questions about helmets. I ended up leaving without purchasing anything. I wouldn't come back. read more

Was out on a ride today when I got a puncture in my rear tire that the sealant in my tubeless setup failed to seal. Looked for a bike shop nearby and found Global Bikes. They were so friendly and helpful, but most importantly, quickly got my puncture sealed and topped off my sealant. I don't live nearby, otherwise, I'd definitely come back to get my bike serviced. Brought my bike in for a physical. I was greeted as soon as I entered and in no time my bike was being inspected. The staff inspected the bike (while at the same time explaining the what and whys of the repairs/replacements) and worked to find and order all the parts needed. My daughter was working on her bike seat and she broke the bolt and left half of it in the socket, the other half hit her in the face ! Global Bike was our second shop after the first one blew us off . The guys listened attentively to our tale and stopped what they were doing and got the broken piece out and replaced the bolt , all for no charge ! If I could give no stars I would. I walked in wanting to buy and the sales people were anything but helpful. I told him I had 600 budget. I got the vibe they didn't if unless I was buying a 2k bike. I was ready and wanted to buy a bike but left annoyed with nothing. I was only customer in the store. Unreal!!! It's been over two years since my first review of SMC, I've since bought a new mountain bike from them and have had routine service there - and my review stays at a 5 star without question. I spent a lot of money there because they take the time to deal with my indecisiveness in dropping $3k. I had other options and I was shopping around including online but my decision came down to them. They're local, they ride the trails I ride, they're extremely experienced and knowledgable and seem to give a shit with my hundreds of questions I had in 26 vs 29, brain vs no brain, chassis geometry, this rear set with that shifter etc... like endless knowledge of everything they stock and more. It came down to ordering a brand new 2011 or taking the last 2010 upper model in the shop. After some talking I walked out with the more upgraded 2010 model. I got a great price, had it in-hands and didn't have to wait the 4+ months to get the new one and I was stoked. Recently I brought her in for routine maintenance, left it there after my ride on a sunday and was back in hands tuesday afternoon. It went in dirty and grimy - came out like a million bucks :) Like seriously as clean as the day I bought it... Anyways - they care, they have only the best bikes there and evidently the best help, and that is why I spend my money there and recommend them to you. Ride hard kids... read more

If you like waiting in the 100 degree weather for 4 employees to allow only 1 customer in the shop at a time (Shop has to be 2500 sq/ft), and waiting over a week to get a simple brake adjustment-AND overpaying for a tune up, THIS IS YOUR PLACE!!! #AhwatukeeProud. Just went to BikeMaster's- 2 people working which allow 4 people in at a time, and fixed my brakes on the spot for FREE to earn my business. Also, tune ups are much cheaper there too. Thanks MAX!!! You are victims of your own success Global, and this COVID happened to actually help you out with the personal fitness people want to do. But you have forgotten what made you successful-and overpaying plus waiting a week for a simple adjustment is Pathetic. Good luck. read more

(if that doesn't show you how bad it was, i don't know what will) Look, I'm a very young, respectable, kind, and understanding college student athlete whose worked in customer service for many years. I know what good customer service looks like, and this bike shop is NOT that. I've lived here in tukee my whole life, and never have I felt so belittled by multiple middle aged men. I came to pick up my bike with a fixed wheel, and was greeted by a man who looked me up and down and scolded at me. I was being very polite and simply asked a few questions, as I am new to the biking world and wanted to know more. He was so incredibly rude I simply paid and left with no "thank you!" or "have a good day!" like I always do. I have been to almost every bike shop in the Eastvalley including other Global bikes. This place by far is the best around. The entire staff has been patient and answered every question I've had. There was zero sales pressure and a realistic view on what I was looking for. I was never pushed in a direction that I didn't see fit for my needs and was given amazing recommendations. The one stand out of this place is Kelli (hopefully spelled correctly) she remembered me even after only meeting me once. The advice and recommendations given by her were by far the best I've received from any one I've talked to regarding cycling. Bought a bike there (Specialized). Had issue with one of the tubes within minutes of rolling out (tube was pinched between tire and rim). Tech was a total tool about it; when I mentioned it was an assembly issue, his only response was "Noted". I'm all for supporting small businesses, but the attitude here sucks. read more

I have to agree with the people who gave this shop POOR reviews. I too have lived in Ahwatukee for 15+ years and have gone to this shop many times in the past. It seems they are getting worse and worse. I will never go back and I would encourage you to do the same. Although I have spent thousands of dollars at this shop on bikes and service, my recent experiences were TERRIBLE; both with the hip-hop, gangster looking "kid" up front "Dennis" and the owner who didn't want to "undermine" the incorrect information, bad attitude and poor customer service his novice front-man had been providing. I purchased a Specialized FSR from this shop over the years along with many other parts, accessories and services for all of my family's bikes (all Specialized). I had not gone back in a while because the service had been getting worse. But I figured it's 2013 and I'd give them another shot and try to support them. Yesterday I called to get prices on some basic work - replace a wheel, replace a couple tubes, etc. Dennis asked me some questions and quoted me prices - very straight forward. I loaded up my gear, my kids and headed to the shop. Dennis (wearing his gangster hat, earrings and a bad attitude) looked and said "I quoted you the wrong parts",....he said it's going to be about $70 additional on top of what was only going to be about $70 anyway. I proposed that since they quoted me the wrong prices over the phone and I just hauled all my gear and my kids over there, that we split the difference or make some kind of proposal to make it right. I said I understand sometimes things get quoted wrong, but let's do the right thing, come to an arrangement we are both happy with and everything will be good. I made a couple proposals and to each he said no, he will only charge me full price of all the misquoted items. Some guy, apparently the owner, who never introduced himself to me or said he'd like to help, rather, he said he didn't want to undermine Dennis, started barking at me, saying "what, you never make a mistake? - you want me to do the work for free? - are we not allowed to make a mistake? you can take your business elsewhere". I said, really, you want to lose a long-term, loyal customer who has spent thousands of dollars in your shop because you quoted the wrong price and now you don't even want to try to come to an arrangement that will work for both of us? I realize you don't want to lose money, who would,...but I'm sure we can come to some arrangement since you quoted me the wrong prices after I gave you all the information you asked for. He was not interested, kept his negative, poor service attitude and went back into the shop to work on a bike part. I was shocked. My little boys were shocked! As we drove toward Curbside Cyclery and Javelina Cycles (trustworthy shops) to get the work done, my boys both said they could not believe how unreasonable they were at South Mountain Cycles and how impressed they were with me for talking nicely and trying to get it worked out into a win/win solution when the guys at SMC were such "jerks". Pretty insightful for 13 and 11 year old boys (who also will never take their business to SMC as they grow up). ***** I would recommend you AVOID SMC BIKE SHOP ***** The owner and his staff CLEARLY don't care about customer service, quality workmanship or doing the right thing (and reading the other reviews, I'm not the only one who has had the same experience - sure, you can buy a bike from them, they'll be happy to take your money for a sale,....but don't expect to be treated well regarding service or parts from there after). I'd guess the positive reviews are written by their friends or employees. There are several other shops here in Ahwatukee that are honest and quality. Let's show SMC that we won't accept being treated poorly. Let's take our business elsewhere and support shops that support our community and treat us with the respect we have shown them all these years that is obviously not reciprocated.
