The computers were down at my job today and I was a lil sad about my weekend ending so soon. So what better way to remedy this inconvenience than to eat out with my co-worker. However, needed a place that would be quick and not compromise the flavor. So we chose one of my favorite spots, Globe Market!! I was first introduced to Globe years ago when I went on the Buffalo Bites food tour, Globe was our very first stop. Though Buffalo Bites Tour is now closed due to passing of their owner, Laura Reed in 2017, Globe Market has a bench on their patio in memory of her. What I love about Globe is that always 2 -3 soups daily and you can actually try the soup before you buy !! They are well known for Tomato Basil Soup which i do enjoy but its always fun to try new weekly flavors!! Today I opted for house salad with vinegarette and half of my favorite sandwich, Turkey sandwich with Multigrain bread instead of their house made country bread with extraordinary cranberry chutney!! Another cool thing about Globe is that they use local products to make their food. The sage cheddar cheese from Lexington Coop this adds an extra tang to the Turkey Sandwich. Please, please, please order this sandwich and fall in love ! Located in the heart of Elmwood tucked behind a phone store and 7/11 is definitely one of my favorite gems, for a quick and tasty lunch. This market is really nice in a sweet old house (old) in Elmwood village. I love Gazpacho and the wonderful thing about it is that everyone has their own version. Here is is peppery and chock full of fresh crunchy veggies. It was served with bread and roll for dipping. I got a side of pasta salad with fresh mozzarella and tomatoes; nice balance of fresh and dried herbs and garlic and the pasta was a perfect Al Dante. It was served in acute vintage bowl. I saw other amazing looking dishes of sandwiches and salads coming out to the very pleasant outdoor seating area. Very casual cozy feel. Had a challenge with the bathroom door; they need a handy person to fix and it could be cleaner. read more

I've eaten here quite a few times over the years. It's a hit or miss spot for me, but today it was a total hit! They offer several different salads, sandwiches, and wraps. They also have a nice selection of pasta salads, baked goods, and their drink coolers are nicely stocked with cool teas! The staff is very friendly and the restaurant itself is so cute. I love sitting on their patio during the summer months - the mismatched tables and chairs give the place so much character! Today I got a Greek salad with chicken and I loved it. The salad was pretty big and it came with their Greek dressing, I don't know what was in it but it had a strong olive flavor. I'm not the biggest olive fan but it was still pretty tasty! In the past, I've had things I liked and other things I really wasn't a fan of. I wouldn't recommend their Thai chicken wrap, but their BLT is insanely good. This meal was amazing. The salad was the perfect combo of goat cheese, dried apricot and cranberries and candid nuts. There was so much topping each bite was delicious and filled with flavor. The sandwich is also the best flavor combo of turkey, sage derby cheese and cranberry chutney mayo. It took about 10-15 minutes for us to get our food. The grilled cheese sandwich isn't your ordinary grilled cheese (they don't use cheddar cheese) and it comes with tortilla chips. The tomato bail soup came with a slice of sourdough(?) bread and was very flavorful. I chose the Caesar salad as the side salad and it was LOADED with Parmesan cheese. Stopped in for some lunch yesterday and I ordered the chipotle turkey sandwich and a bowl of their thai carrot soup. They were both pretty good with yummy crunch bread for the sandwich and a slice of soft wheat bread for the soup. Both were very flavorful and fresh and you can appreciate that in today's busy restaurants. I also got a chocolate chip cookie which was super good as well. The staff were very friendly and the place itself was a blast playing some seriously great 90's rock music the entire time. They've got lots of seating indoors and an outdoor patio with even more seating for nicer weather. My dreams of dating him have now turned to Ashe. But I Ville be okay. The sandwiches here are pretty good. I'm not sure I'd give them 5 stars even if they were cheap, but they're really not. Not even Hertel cheap. And I don't enjoy them as much as the Hangover at Joe's or a Prosciutto sandwich at Caruso's. So for that reason I'll stick with a 4. Wonderful service though and all kinds of goodies in here in addition to sandwiches. Really lovely "new age" decor too. I appreciate it. My favorite option is the choose two, because you get the most bang for your buck and you get to taste more things. You get your choice of two of the following: half a sandwich, soup, salad. You get your choice of any of the two you pick. My favorite sandwiches include the caprese and the grilled brie and apple. My husband lives for their roast beef sandwich, which also has brie and apple on it. For salads, I recommend the spinach. Spinach, blue cheese crumbles, mandarin oranges, walnuts and it comes with the most delicious dressing you have ever tried in your entire life. Magical dressing. This most recent trip, I also chose a rhubarb lemonade from the drink case and it was amazing. Homemade, the perfect balance of sweet and tart. They also have a deli case with salads of all kinds, desserts, etc that you can order as well. Then after you have your meal, peruse the shelves inside for things to take home. Living down the street from a place like Globe Market is pretty nice, It's the perfect place to stop in for a quick sandwich, wrap, or even a treat. I stopped in here on Saturday for an early dinner and was relieved to see the place was empty. The menu is mostly sandwiches, salads and wraps and gives you a nice healthy selection to choose from. I decided to go with the Thai chicken wrap because, well, I love Thai chicken wraps. The place itself is super nice and well decorated. There are tables pretty much everywhere, both inside and outside, and a wide array of wall art and flags to keep your eyes busy. The food didn't take very long to come out and my expectations were soon let down. The Thai chicken wrap was not necessarily bad, but it sure was boring. I'm not sure what kind of sauce they were actually using but it wasn't very strong and mostly just tasted like the vegetables. My main problem actually comes from the chicken kind of looking and tasting like it came from a can. I didn't hate the wrap and I would like to try more things on the menu before deciding if I'll keep coming back or not, but I have hope that maybe it was just a fluke. Overall, Globe Market is a nice little place to stop at for lunch and eat healthy. On top of food they also offer some home made juices for only $2 (the lemonade is delicious). My husband keeps gravitating towards the roast turkey sandwich, which includes sage derby cheese and cranberry chutney mayo. The full sandwich orders come with some tortilla chips and a pickle wedge. Of the desserts, I've only had a slice of chocolate cream pie here once, which satisfied a sweet craving I was having, but the other desserts in the case always look tempting. Service has always been friendly, and although there have always been other customers dining in, we've never had an issue with finding a place to sit. Stopped in for a quick lunch, on a Monday afternoon. What a cool spot in the heart of the city, in the Elmwood Village. Complete with hipster vibes, this Is a classic Buffalo spot that's good for lunch alone or with friends, or a chill day date spot. A very homey feel, I was intrigued to see if the food was as comforting as the setting. As soon as I entered, the wonderful aromas overtook me. I noticed the global theme immediately and was greeted my the girl at the counter. Slightly distracted from all the options from the menu and the food on display in the deli counter, it took me a second to decide on what to order. I finally opted for the Ahi Tuna Wrap with a side of greens (choice of that or chips), and a dill pickle. The greens were a fresh and crisp spring mix with a delicious (what seemed to be homemade) balsamic vinaigrette. I dove into the wrap and I was pleasantly greeted by the wasabi mayo which was the highlight for me. A generous portion, I was satisfied indeed. Hands down the best Boar's Head roasted turkey sandwich in Buffalo among the city's sandwich-making bread makers. The bread, chutney mayo, and sage derby cheese blow it out of the water. I've tried replicating this at home with the challenges of sourcing sage derby, experimenting w/ various chutneys mixed w/mayo, and getting my hands on Boar's Head gold turkey slices locally--but--nothing quite makes it the same. I love the fact that this place has delivery options with various food delivery services. The Tomato Basil Soup is delicious. That m descriptor does not do the soup justice because it is absolutely exquisite. It is made with herbs and spices that make the taste pop on your tastebuds. In addition to the soup, the Rice Krispy treats are very good. The sugary flavor is not overpowering like a store made Kellogg's Rice Krispy treat. It's quite large for the price. Great if you're looking for a homey cafe with food that appears on the surface "healthy". Not so good if you're budget-conscious. Globe Market has some sandwiches and usually have at least one vegan soup each day. They also have various preserves and gifts so it's almost like a little foodie gift shop and cafe all in one. Sandwiches are $8-10 and soups are $5. They have a half soup/ half sandwich combo, but it's not available for their steak burrito. My most recent experience was getting a steak burrito and some "chicken pho" soup to go. To make the burrito, they took the steak meat and microwaved it to warm it up. I expect microwaves from Subway and such, but not from a little cafe like this. I understand they are trying to be speedy, but as Globe Market is often touted as a health-conscious choice for lunch or dinner, I think this cafe falls short of this perception. While the prices are reflective of higher-end healthy food, the reality is that I'm unsure of how much of their vegetables / meat are sourced from local farms or whether they try to have organic veggies for those ingredients that are high in pesticide content in their non-organic (the dirty dozen) form (red peppers, celery, spinach, etc). They do earn stars for their fantastic homey environment -- perfect for enjoying a cup of coffee, people watching or reading a book. Also for having a parking lot in the EV area. The food is also pretty good, although the steak sandwich and chicken pho soup mostly had flavors of heat and while I like spice, I don't generally like it to be very overpowering. Their "chicken pho" is more of a glorified chicken noodle soup, but still tasty. When I eat here, I don't often find myself getting my $$'s worth, which is ultimately why it's A-OK. read more

I had not been to Globe restaurant in quite some time, as I had thought it had become less reliably good. My friends and I went last night and I was deliriously happy with my seared tuna salad Niscoise. An enormous bed of the best greens I can ever recall having in a Buffalo restaurant topped with three generous slices of perfectly seared fresh raw tuna, green beans, Kalamata olives, new potatoes and tomato with a perfectly balanced herbal Dijon vinaigrette. I'm not sure how I've never written about Globe before. This is right down the street from home so we eat here about once a week - it's one of our go-to quick casual places. They have an awesome rotating selection of soups each day as well as salads, sandwiches and a deli counter where you can take home sides and deli dishes. We almost always get a combo - which means we get a half serving of two different dishes. My go-to is the house salad without apricots - its a great green salad with chevre cheese, craisins, candied nuts and homemade balsamic dressing. I usually pair it with a soup of the day or the half BLT sandwich. I also am a big fan of the chicken quesadilla and the portabello mushroom sandwhich. Everything here is good. One negative is that it seems to have gotten more expensive over time. I know, what hasn't? But I feel like maybe this has gotten more expensive more quickly... I remember when my husband and I used to routinely be able to eat here for under $20, which was part of the appeal. Now, with two entrees/combos and a couple of bottles of water I feel like we are generally in the $25 - $30 range every time. I had the hummus wrap which comes with baked tofu. It was excellent. A hummus wrap on it's own can be kind of uninspired, even if everything in it is good, but the tofu really put it over the top; it was blackened and everything. They also appear to have a vegan soup every day. The food in the case looked great - Korean BBQ and pork buns in addition to many salads and dessert. The strawberry shortcakes looked beautiful. I don't eat any of that stuff, but I appreciate it when I see it. This is a great place all around. I came here for one reason and one reason only and that was for some chicken soup to ease my horrible symptoms associated with this cold I've got going on. They change their soups regularly, so you must call to find out what they are or wing it and find out when you arrive. I got a bowl of chicken soup and a hot tea. They have Harney and Sons tea. While I think that's an excellent choice, I was underwhelmed by the variety offered. I needed some good old cold curing chamomile and they didn't have any. Peppermint, berry, sweet cinnamon spice, green tea and early grey. I went with Peppermint and it was tasty but the mug for the tea was way too small. Also, the first cup that was served to me had dust particles floating at the top, eek! The soup was served with a piece of white bread and with the tea the total came to $7. There are few things I enjoy more than posting up some place for hours on end while I eat some yummy food, sip on a delicious drink and get work done. However, in order to get work done, I need my laptop and in order to use my laptop for more than an hour, I need an electric outlet and I could not find one here, it was very sad. I took a seat anyway because I had just ordered soup and figured I had about 30 minutes of battery left. I took a seat along the wall. There's a bar height table area in the back right of the market. It's an odd place because the people who choose to sit there are directly over the shoulder of anyone seated at the tables in front of them. No secrets there, if you're typing something private, they're reading it. The soup surprised me. I thought for sure it was going to be loaded with salt but it was actually perfect. Not overly seasoned at all, just enough chicken and noodles and really tasty. The portion was small but it hit the spot for lunch. The sandwiches looked really appealing but the baked goods, not so much. The ones that were being advertised in the window looked like they had seen better days. Great food, but overpriced. I bought lunch for both of us, and it came to over twenty bucks. Seeing that this place is kind of like a deli (no sit-down service), that seems a little excessive. My Caprese sandwich (tomato, basil, mozzarella, homemade vinaigrette) was good, but I wish the bread was toasted. It was huge though, and I could only finish half. It was pretty fresh, at least. My husband ordered a cup of matzah ball soup and a half sandwich. He enjoyed both, but wasn't raving about it. I think because the food was so expensive, we held it up to a higher standard, maybe?
