Globe serves very good, fresh food, but it's often not worth the price. I love the taste of Globe. I've ordered the Cuban Ruben, Quesadilla, and Burrito several times, and are all very good and fresh...as my wife says, "like homemade." But this is not a compliment; it means we could make it at home. Often these cost between 8-9 dollars. Since everything is a la carte and by the pound, the bill quickly rises if you like a side vegetable with your sandwich. A sandwich plate comes only with a side of red tortilla chips, which look pretty but are relatively bland and of no nutritional value. Amazing soups, new styles daily! Panera Bread on steroids for the same price! Novel sandwiches that have brought new essentials to my life, like cranberry mayo and apples with roast beef, made on artisan bread. Large selection of pasta salads and many other homemade deli items on dispay and I always want to get a little of everything. Ridiculous beverage selection in the coolers, next to a small shop with eclectic merchandise. Also fresh, normally infused with lemon, cucumber or mint, iced water for free. I consider Globe Market to be one of the best "fast food" options in Buffalo. We usually stop in for lunch on the weekend or sometimes for a weeknight dinner. What I like the most is the number of vegetarian options; there are multiple choices within their extensive soup, salad and sandwich menu. For you meat-eaters they carry Boar's Head deli meat, which is my Hubby's favorite! Globe usually has 4 different soups on their menu and 1-2 of them are always vegetarian (or vegan!). Sandwiches include things like grilled cheese, a caprese, Portabello, or a tofu wrap. They've also subbed tofu for the meat in a wrap for me (when not crazy busy) so just ask! All of their veggie-packed salads are sans-meat and you can add tofu to any of them to amp up the protein. If you want to try something different the deli case always has different salads and meal options, many of them vegetarian as well. I like variety and have a hard time choosing so I usually order a combo. You get your choice of two: soup, salad or 1/2 sandwich. You really can't go wrong at Globe, everything is always super fresh, healthy, and fast! Though we go there year-round, summer is the best time to visit. I have never been disappointed here. I usually get the Turkey sandwich with chipotle mayo which is perfectly spicy with fresh deli Turkey on a fresh baquette. Get a half sandwich and soup combo and your salad will be full of healthy veggies - such a great value for the money. Last night I picked up a greek chicken salad to take home for dinner and was absolutely shocked at how great it was. Above and beyond any greek restaurant and diner in the city. Thanks to American Express I checked out Globe Market (finally) for lunch. I got a buffalo chicken wrap and bowl of tortellini soup. It was good. I totally did not expect to like the simple bowl of soup and wrap so much. The flavours were just right and overall seemed fresh enough. The prices though seemed a bit high for being in Buffalo, but then maybe its because it's located in the middle of the most populated part of Elmwood. I'd go here more often but not if I had to pay full price which I didn't because of the recent promotions. None the less, it seemed to be a great little place to have a bite to eat if family is visiting and you want to run out and grab take out. The seating is VERY limited when it's busy. Warning though..... this place is popular, crowded, and quite slow at lunch time during the week. The many different sandwich and salad and soup choices were almost overwhelming. I chose a roasted turkey sandwich on (home baked!) white bread with cranberry chutney, sage cheese, and field greens. It was super delicious, but I would have preferred a side other than the (bagged) tortilla chips that accompanied it. My husband and I have been here several times. This is a good place to stop in the summer and grab a half sandwich half salad or half soup combo for 7.95. The food is higher quality because of the ingredients, so no this isn't your standard sandwich shop. (dark greens, sprouts, cranberries, dried fruit, a balsamic vinaigrette to die for etc.!) It's one of those perfect lunch places that you dream about - located right in the heart of the city of Buffalo, a FREE parking lot adjacent to it, with excellent food, superb customer service, a spatious seating arrangement, local art, and homemade sauces and treats for sale! The Hertel to Go location is always my pit stop for the best soups and sandwiches in North Buffalo. I love having the ability to pick up a quality and healthy quick bite to go so close to home. Their soups are a must. The sweet and not-too-pureed tomato basil may be my favorite (and I'm not a big tomato soup fan!) and when I was home sick with a cold, it was recommended I try the oxtail soup. Why was it $13+ for half of a sandwich and half of a salad? This place feels like a more hipster version of Panera, and the prices reflect that. The food was average at best. The sandwich had maybe 2 slices of meat on it and the salad dressing was absolutely awful. It's tucked away on Elmwood and the atmosphere is nice but I won't be back. Also...there was a homeless man hanging out in the bathroom and he emerged 30+ minutes after we arrived. He interacted with the patrons of the restaurant and was asking for money. Came in on a Tuesday and ordered the soup and sandwich combo, Thai Carrot soup was hot, thick and spicy-very good, served with a hunk of fresh white bread and tortilla chips. The sandwich was a Chicken Salad on Multigrain, big pieces of chicken in a creamy dressing with fresh greens, also very good. Pleasant counter staff and the meal was served table side. The Globe Market Last time I had food at Globe Market was during the Elmwood Arts Festival last summer. It is a great restaurant/market with awesome soups and sandwiches. From what I've seen, no one really visits the market side, except to glance around. It seems to be very popular around lunch time, and even around 3pm. One thing that bothered me was how miserable all the workers appeared on this day. The cashier that greeted me was very nice and all smiles, but everyone else was angry, which made the atmosphere tense. It could just be the day I visited that everyone seemed grumpy. My firm orders lunch from Globe at least once every other month. They are extremely accommodating. Lunch is always ready for pick up right on time. The staff greets us as we walk in to pick up our order. Never has anything been missing or prepared incorrectly. The food is always right on point. I went here earlier today and they gave me the wrong sandwich, but I told the woman at the counter and she was apologetic and they made me a new sandwich quickly. They were very nice, as always. Great idea in theory, but falls a bit flat on execution. I've been here twice, both times really excited as soon as I walked in the door and looked at the menu and tantalizing prepared foods...but then felt slightly deflated by the price and service at the end of it all. The café is quite charming inside and would be a nice place to enjoy a bowl of soup in the winter and do some work. There's also a nice outdoor area in the summertime with umbrellas and tables, so that you can take in the luxe hippie vibe of Elmwood as you chomp on your $10 sandwich and $5 side of potato salad. Both times I've been, the staff have been unorganized in terms of cashier/food preparer/food server roles. Seemed like everyone was doing everything at once but nothing was very streamlined. The mozarella/basil/tomato caprese sandwich was delicious the first time around, and on my most recent visit I had some tasty spicy black bean soup and the house salad. Both were served with generous hunks of bread (if you're trying to be low-carb, request that they don't send these out with your dishes to tempt you!). The beef was very well done, totally flavorless, with some kind of weird salad dressing on the bread - definitely not mayo or even homemade mayo. The cheese looked like a unit of string cheese had been cut in half and plopped on top of some "greens" (where are we? Alabama?). Our server was sweet, a little mixed up and very young. This was a "slow roll" night and some a-hole on a bike was looking behind him & rode right into the driver's side of my car...WHILE I WAS DRIVING. parking was horrendous and I can get similar quality food for much less closer to my home. I like this place. The food is consistently good. Quality always appears to be fresh. There are healthy options and some feel good favorites, like Mac and cheese and fried chicken. The house salad is killer. However, today, someone in the kitchen was blasting Phish while the speakers in the front of the house were playing Boyz II Men. Just closed their downtown Main st. location. I really hope they open something downtown again soon. This was really one of the very very few good options for a quick lunch south of the Chip strip. We ordered catering from Globe Market for our rehearsal dinner at the FLW Boathouse and could not have been happier with the outcome. They worked with our budget and advised us perfectly on the amount of food to order for the party and we ended up with an amazing variety of fresh, healthy, delicious options that pleased everyone from the vegans to the meatatarians. Everyone was raving about the food and asking where it came from. Globe also provided someone to help with setup and service and she was personable, unobtrusive but incredibly helpful and knowledgeable, and made the night run smoothly. The first time encouraged me to go again, but it was not so nice to see the employee cleaning his teeth with his finger while he was in contact with the food. My 3rd visit to GM was lead by a group of women that insisted on going there- the same employee this time tasted the customers' food with his finger while he was carrying it to the counter, where they then pick it up...I never went back to that place. read more
