I am almost hesitant to write a review for this place, as it is one of those that are well hidden and frequented primarily by the locals, and with that still preserve their unspoiled charm. When meeting up with an old friend, we decided to stop by for lunch, and frankly, this was one of the most positive food experiences for me on this trip to Paris (of course, the company was a big reason for that, but the food and the ambiance played a role too). This is a tiny place, overlooking a neighborhood garden in 3 arr. and the Museum of Salvador Dali in the background, serving a highly seasonal menu that changes pretty much daily and offering a solid selection of wines from across Europe [I spotted a few of the Austrian labels I had a chance to appreciate before]. My friends and I walked past Glou while we were doing some shopping nearby. We decided to do a late lunch here because we were at this awkward hour (2/3 PM) when most places were closed. Luckily, they had a table here and their menu of natural wines was interesting. We each got different things to share. * Red Tuna Tartare *Green Asparagus and Herb Salad *Breaded eggplant * Grilled Octopus My favorite starter was the green asparagus salad. The vegetables were so fresh and the buttermilk dressing was so delicious. We loved how light everything was. And of course, the grilled octopus was out of this world. Their wine list contained a lot of natural wines and was super delicious. The view in front of the restaurant is gorgeous. Even though we just wanted a quick drink at the bar, we were immediately accosted by the lady Maïté D who very rudely said we had to be gone by 8:30pm as the bar seating was reserved. A hidden gem we never heard about but walked by and was attracted by the interesting looking interior. We walked in and were able to get a table for dinner without reservation, but it gets pretty full so reservations are recommended. We loved Glou so much that we went back twice in a row so we could try everything on the menu. It changes seasonally and some dishes change daily. Huge wine selection. Absolutely loved the experience. Customer service was quick and polite. It was really easy-going, the food was intelligent and delicious, bread did not stop coming, we went through bottles of wine. One of the best meals i've had so far in paris, pricey (my meal was $24 not including my wine) , but with the view, i would say the price was worth it. I sat upstairs by the window and overlooked the Picasso Museum. Usually you would need a reservation to snag this spot. I was lucky to grab it. We stumbled upon this place during lunch time after shopping. The outside looked very nice so we decided to go in. The outside was painted mint green, which is easy to notice when you're looking for it. We were seated at a comfortable wooden table and our waiter was very attentive and quick. The inside of the restaurant looks small but there was enough space. It wasn't too busy. We ordered Guinea Fowl with fries and Monkfish tail (fish of the day), while for drinks we had wine and tea + sparkling water. The Guinea fowl was great, they brought a big piece which I unfortunately could not finish. The fries that came with the nicely cooked fowl was also tasty and had a side of ketchup. The monkfish tail tasted good, was soft and meaty. Did not smell or taste like fish even though was fish, which for me is a huge +. The monkfish was served on a plate of carrot purée which complimented the fish nicely. After food we went for dessert, the 3 scoops of ice cream. I chose vanilla, strawberry, and chocolate. Vanilla and strawberry were taste while the chocolate ice cream was a little strong for my taste. However, I'm sure if you prefer a more bitter chocolate taste - it's perfect. Get a table upstairs next to the window and look out upon the garden below. And if you're in a meat mood, get the burger. Both of my companions went this route and lucky me got to nibble off their plates. Gazpacho is always hard to resist so I ordered a bowl and a plate of charcuterie. In an uncharacteristically accommodating manner, our server was happy to pack up my leftover meat to go. Yesssssssss!!!! Everything about this place. This became "our place" during our stay in the Marais. They welcomed us in, we sat at the bar, they helped us pick wines, they let us stay as long as we wanted, and they were good for conversation. The wines are fairly spendy, but the ambiance makes up for it. Plus the people in the shop are pros who will help you make a good decision. We never had a full meal, but we split a lot of the appetizers. Our favorite was the cheese and charcuterie board. The cheese is great, like all French unpasteurized cheese, and one of the meats was the best ham I've ever tasted. All of this was served with some great crusty bread. We came here to watch France win the 2018 World Cup, and this was the perfect spot. The wine was plentiful, the food delicious, and the service impeccable. A true gem in the neighborhood! read more

My first meal in Paris couldn't have been more delightful. The menu, simple, and just right. The wine list, long, just as hoped. And the experience I had, which I hope you have, is to first-hand notice Terroir. Not just in the wine but in the food. This is a lovely little bistro/cafe with a lively, intimate atmosphere and above par food which was recommended by our hotel concierge. Both of our servers were friendly and spoke impeccable English; however, the service itself left something to be desired. It took over 30 minutes to be served a glass of champagne which was ordered when we were seated and we had to request water at least twice before it was brought to the table. The first round of food, when it arrived almost an hour after we were seated (there were 2 of us), was not what we ordered and had to be sent back. After another 15-20 minutes, the our correct orders were served. I also tried to order a 2nd glass of champagne which never arrived, but was on the bill at the end of the evening and had to be corrected. Maybe they have better luck at lunch? read more

Seven of us had dinner there. Very accommodating owner as we had to move our reservation by 30 minutes and add a guest, no problem ! Let's start with the wines... very eclectic selection of interesting, off the beaten path wines. Ask the wait staff for help, they know their stuff. We ended up with a pinot noir from Puy de dôme, highly unusual wine region but we didn't regret the choice... it worked well with the meal and was as described by the very competent wait staff. The food selection from the table ranged from the very classic (steak tartare et pommes pont-neuf) to regional (magret de canard) to Mediterranean (poulpe grillé). Grilling poulpe (octopus) is very difficult, under cooked and it's tasteless, over cooked and it's rubber.. but perfectly cooked is amazing. And last night it was perfectly grilled, charred and crusty on the outside and melt in your mouth on the inside. Highly recommended ! A great dinner with family with good food and wine... don't expect the traditional brasserie fare (there are plenty of places that caters to tourists) but a spin on classics and regional cooking from France with an off the beaten path wine list well worth the visit on its own. read more

I went to Glou with my mother on 3/14/11. Perhaps it's just me, but it seems less like a place to bring your mother, and more a place to eat with your date or friends (that is, if you and your date and your friends are young and hip -- though that's not to say there were not some older couples, because there were and they were not out of place). The restaurant was cozy, but had room enough that groups fit comfortably among the couples; it didn't feel as though everyone was on top of each other. I ordered the Shepard's Pie (17 euros), and my mother ordered the Rigatoni with White Truffle Cream Sauce (16 euros). The Shepard's Pie came out in the shape of a mousse. The bottom layer was the most tender, succulent meat shredded. The top layer was mashed potatoes. All this was on top of what tasted like a sweet steak sauce. It was one of the most amazing dishes I've had anywhere. The White Truffle Cream Sauce on my mother's rigatoni had the consistency of a thinner Alfredo, but was just as filling. Shaved Parmesan was sprinkled on top, as were chives and some barely noticeable slices of onion. The portion they served her, while not large, was definitely larger than expected. I'm not a fan of cream sauces usually, but this was the best pasta dish I've ever had. On top of all this, the waitstaff was friendly and easy on the eyes. P.S. GLOU is about wine... You know, when you pour the wine and it goes glug-glug... Yes, that's it. GLOU is a kind of French gastro-pub with a rich choice of wine by the glass and the bottle. But that's not all. Every product is clearly identified and of a rare quality. But the dishes are pretty basic. Let me tell you what we enjoyed in this wonderful place of simple pleasures. I've been to this place with my friend Pasha and his girl friend Irina. She wasn't very much hungry, I wanted them to taste some typical French specialties, so we decided to share in an oriental way. Everything is put in the middle of the table and everyone just nibbles. We started with a pumpkin soup (7 euros), oysters (13 euros) from Utah beach (Normandy) and pan-fried foie gras (13 euros). Then we went on with a beef tartar (18 euros) and home-made pasta with truffle flavour. What can I say? It was so fresh, so simple, so obviously perfect in its simplicity. This place has been upgraded in my mind after another successful visit. The most recent time I went there, we waited with a bottle of wine for a while. There was a very friendly bartender who felt bad for us waiting and suggested we put in our order early so that our food would arrive when we sat down. That worked! I had the tartare de boeuf -- yum -- one of the better ones in Paris. The last time I was there, we had a creative endive and cheddar salad -- unexpectedly delicious -- and a well-executed lamb dish that was very soft with a solid sauce. In an attempt to be Spanish-oriented, they have a whole page of charcuterie, which is great, but makes the rest of the menu feel limited. They have a wine system that allows you to try glasses of normally very expensive wines. This can be fun, especially when you're not up for drinking a whole bottle. I don't know how well the wines hold up after a week in the machines, but haven't found any problems with it. Gluten-free notes: Most of the dishes here are gluten-free: meats, veggies, cheese, potatoes, etc. Usually they'll have 1-2 gluten-free desserts, too. On the most recent trip, I got the rice pudding which was deliciously creamy with lots of vanilla bean. read more

I had the tataki salmon which was very good, the husband had the glou burger which was excellent and my sister enjoyed the vegetarian plate. Unfortunately we had no room for dessert. Glou was a spot we stumbled upon when wandering around the 5th noticing that many restaurants were closed for summer vacation. It was pretty hot inside so we opted for a table on the sidewalk. The sidewalk was tight, but it was a nice option for sitting outside and people watching. As for food we ended up with going with a meat board and a cheese board. All the food was excellent but I must say that it was a lot of food. We ordered another salad for the side, but it ended up just being too much. Price wise it was reasonable and we had a bottle of wine as well. About 60 euro. Service was slow by American standards, but overall I would definitely return. read more

My dad referred to the food as ethereal. I'm not sure if I'd go as far as that, but it really was excellent, especially for the decent price. The gazpacho was really refreshing and I loved the fragrance of raspberry it left in my mouth. The spring salad was also very fresh and tasty. And the pumpkin soup was really good too. We had fish of the day as well, and that was pretty good, though not formidable. I guess all in all, the appetizers were exceptional and the main course was really good :) The service was also excellent; they kept refilling our breadbasket.
