Accompanied my special needs adult son there for him to get his popped inner tube replaced. They did that but then said he needed a "brakes adjustment, front and back, $20 each." We obviously knew nothing about bike repairs. And brakes -- seem important! Gruff tech assured us he could do it right then. Added $50 to our bill and the "fix" took him less than 60 seconds. Not cool. I would not go back and would not recommend. :( read more

My new favorite bike shop!! I brought my road bike in with frustrating symptoms that were hard to re-produce in front of mechanics. I literally had 3 different mechanics, over the last several months, put the bike up on a stand and no one could diagnose it. I was starting to feel crazy. The guys at GHY took the time to listen to me, explore ideas, and remained curious. They didn't give up on finding the issue. They kept my bike... but knew I had a training ride coming up so they did a quick turnaround for me (forever grateful!). And sure enough... problem solved. I was on a long ride and my chain broke about 6 blocks from their store. The choice was Uber or get a new chain and finish my ride. I decided to get a new chain. Walked in with my bike and was greeted by a great crew. They asked what I needed and said they had the chain that fit and installed it. In and out in 15 minutes. Great service and fantastic group of people. I highly recommend this store! read more

This place is a joke, brought my E bike there cause it needed bearings for the handle bars and when we went back to pick it up the handle bars were put on backwards all the cords were tangled up, the back tire was completely flat. And when asked about it, there maintenance guy just stood there and looked at me and said they didn't work on the bike when the bike was road there so the handle bars couldn't have been backwards. I recommend you find somewhere else to go. I wouldn't take my bike back there if they offered to do it for free.. read more

My Onyx RCR had a loose back brake line as the cable came out of the housing and no longer had tension. Very cool and easy to talk to! The mechanic sadly I didn't catch his name was super helpful and help me replace my cable, housing, and added a adapter so I wouldn't have this problem later on! Great shop. Large selection of bikes, lots of cool stuff, but still has that small shop vibe. Lots of cool vintage bikes that are fun to look at. They have every type of bike you would expect, but seem to also carry bikes you won't find everywhere else (cruisers, dirt bikes, etc.) Had them build up a gravel bike for me. Great price on the build and they did a really nice job. Turned it around quickly. Strongly recommend giving them some business. read more

This place is everything I need in a bike shop. They take great care of my bike every time I walk through the door. I currently own $5.5K worth of bicycle, and I feel totally comfortable leaving in their hands for maintenance and upgrades. Kyle is going to install a 750K watt motor on my steel frame this week. I could write a short novel about that particular conversion adventure. I've read through some of the negative reviews. I've been using the Renton shop for three years and never had a single, similar problem. I totally recommend using these guys to help you find, maintain and upgrade your bicycle. GHY can huck themselves. I've had decent interactions with the gentleman who usually works the counter, in response to items I ordered, knew they had in, or to order from, however; I bled my hydraulic disk brakes a few weeks ago (covid ya know so bike shops are overloaded, do as much D.I.Y. as you can). I ended up getting hydraulic fluid on my brake pads so I went to get new ones, simple, right? They didn't have the ones for my bike in stock (not a problem) and while asking the mechanic for a work around UNTIL THE PARTS GET THERE, the mechanic went on a diatribe about the process to remove dot fluid from pads (which lasted about 10 minutes, and I certainly didn't request it), basically belittling me, and treating me like a child, and I don't need that. I'm an adaptive cyclist, and I'd like to see the mechanic fathom the work-around's that I've done to ride with one functional arm. He cannot, he likes to be the better-than-thou type. I wouldn't go there unless you need a part in an emergency, or you're ready for 50/50 customer service. read more

Really wasn't into selling me the parts I wanted. Told me 5 times that the part was special order. Then found it in inventory after all, but kept finding excuses to not sell me what I needed. Took it elsewhere and got exactly I needed done (same day instead of a 2 week wait) using the exact parts they told me weren't a good fit. I do think they know the bikes, but just couldn't be bothered to sell anything to anyone unless it's a BMX bike. I think the company has potential and it's been there quite awhile, maybe if they employed some adults the service might be better. It seemed to be staffed entirely by pre-teens and adolescents on the last two visits. read more

Love this shop! The guys here go above and beyond to offer a selection of bikes you won't find anywhere else. Can't find it here, they'll get it! This place has always been a staple shopping stop for my family of bicycle addicts. In my latest trip there to pick-up a gift for a family member I laid eyes on this beacon of a frame on the back wall. Long story short, I purchased this amazing German BMX frame at a deal I couldn't pass up. While i've never built a bike from the frame up, i'm excited to trust the expertise of the GHY crew to guide me. read more

This is the best shop in Seattle/Renton! I grew up on Capitol Hill ( I'm 46), it's sad, but I feel most bike shops now are more about the up sell, and half ass work/passion! Just got my Guerciotti back, and the campy butter shifts like it was new, from 15yrs ago with only a new rear cassette and some small parts. They fixed my wife's bike a few years ago ( the rear triangle was out of alignment, and most shops wanted 300$ to fix it, or throw it out. GHY fixed the issue plus some other stuff, for only a 100$, and she still rides 50mile rides on it 3/4yrs later on the regular. FYI, it's Renton, not Capitol Hill, so you can't buy a 15$ dollar coffee from a guy with a fancy mustache, while you wait for really expensive half ass work done on your bike. Greg's Greenlake cycle is a great place for mindless rich people that don't know any better, and have a giant bank account, without an eye for detail. After struggling with removing my old rounded out disc rotor bolts on my wheels, I stopped by GHY for help in getting them removed. Met a nice guy named Kai(?) who said he would spend a minute on each wheel for free before assessing for a possible cost estimate. He probably spent more time than a minute on each, but successfully removed the bolts and sent me on my way with new bolts free of charge. Will definitely go back for future repairs and purchases to support their shop. read more

Friendly, fast, and best of all: nobody beats their prices. They can put together and repair electric bike kits. They are not 100% experts when it comes to the electrical components, but more often than not, they can fix the issue. I have come in many times for replacement brake pads and adjustments and what they charge is extremely reasonable. I was having an issue with bike where the LCD would not turn on. At first they speculated that it was an issue with the motor controller so I bought another one, when that turned out not to be the issue I bought a new LCD and it worked fine, they later told me they didn't want to try re-wiring the lcd directly into the controller as that would've voided the warranty. They said the old lcd (I bought a new one) might have worked if I opted to do that, but I wasn't given that choice, which is fine. I contacted the seller and was sent a new controller, which I later sold because I didn't need it. I let them off the hook because they tried really hard to fix it, and ended up only charging me a marginal amount of money for all the hours they put into, so no harm done. I wouldn't dream of going anywhere else for bike repairs, conversions, etc. This is THE best bike shop in all of Washington State. read more

I had them put together a bike I bought online. They did a bad job and I had to bring it back for them to line up the fenders properly. On top of that they didn't fill the tires with air. They were only lightly factory filled. If you're paying to have your bike put together, and ride ready, it should be done properly. Very disappointed. read more

This is a generous 1 star. I took my wheels over to their burien location a month ago for a tubeless conversion. The guy there was very friendly and told me it'd be no problem. 3 weeks later it's flat and I hadn't ridden it once. They've since closed so I went to the main renton location to get it re-done. I was told by a friendly guy there that my tires weren't really all that compatible for tubeless and that it's going to require more maintenance to fill it up with air and check the sealant more often. One of the perks of tubeless is less maintenance! I was angry that the burien mechanic said nothing of this. So I said screw it and bought two tires from them to put on since I already had the rims converted to this setup. He was "nice" enough to only charge me for one tire's labor (c'mon dude, all the labor should have been free since it was a mess up on client education and recommendation). I picked them up today and again everyone in the shop was friendly. But when I got home I noticed orange sealant all over my back upholstery. The old tires he gave back to me were still containing fluid! How hard can it be to empty out a tire's sealant? So while I'm scrubbing the hell out of it (which it doesn't look like it's going to get out by the way) I call them to tell them what happened and his response is "oh geez, I'm sorry, that's unfortunate" and I'm kind of dumbfounded by his response and I ask how I get it out and he puts me on a brief hold then comes back to recommend glass cleaner to get it out. And that was literally the extend of his apology. The response should have been "Oh my gosh I'm so sorry about that. Let me talk with the mechanic RIGHT NOW and let him know that it's not acceptable...also, if you're nearby let us clean that up for you. Or if you can't get it out and it dries we will pay for upholstery cleaning". So I told him to make sure it doesn't happen again to another customer and his response was "absolutely, not a problem" as if he's doing me a favor. Good customer service is not hard to give, really. Just treat customers how you want to be treated. I'm still shocked at how carefree their attitude was when I called about the sealant staining. I've got an acronym for you...G.F.Y. GHY is the bike shop for: 1. A mountain biker, especially the enduro/downhill riders. 2. The everyday commuter. 3. BMX race, freestyle, the whole discipline. 4. The guy who loves and needs help keeping his 90s full suspension mountain bike going. 5. The rider who believes in shopping local. It's not for: 1. The road cyclist that is looking for a $10,000 Pinarello or Specialized Tarmac. 2. The people who showroom the store just to try out a helmet then use your iPhone app to see if Amazon has it cheaper. 3. The hipster that just wants to be rude. Snooty factor: Practically non-existent. I'd recommend you go there if: 1. You're commuter, mountain, bmx bike is a bust. GHY has a really good selection of: 1. Helmets; for the daily commuter down to the crazy downhiller. Finally a place that has full face helmets are a reasonable price. 2. Mountain bike handlebars. 3. BMX gear. Customer service highlights: 1. The guys stayed 30 minutes past closing to help a couple customers (me included) and you wouldn't have realized the store was closed because they didn't even tell you. 2. Some Renton PD guys came in to see if the guys at GHY can do some quick adjustments to their police bikes and and the guys at GHY did it for free. It's cool there is that community relationship. I'm disappointed in this company. Although I have had a previous experience that was good, I can't help but be left with a bad taste in my mouth. They will randomly close their doors midday to go 'ride'. I cleared out my car, loaded up my bike to get fixed, and drove downtown from the highlands, found parking etc.... only to find a sign on the door that said, 'sorry, out riding'. This is DURING THEIR BUSINESS HOURS. Why can't they keep one person at the store while the rest bike? With a downtown location that isn't terribly convenient, I think it's bad business practice to randomly close for 'riding'. It was a waste of my afternoon, and I'll be taking my business elsewhere. read more

Since the first time I stepped in here, these guys treated me great. They are also active in the biking community with event support and trail building. How do you beat that?! Let me tell you....you don't. I bought all my armor from these guys as well knowing that I may be able to get it cheaper online, but if it doesn't work for me, GHY records purchases in their computer so returns are easy. The shop is small, but they can fix or order anything you want involving bikes and their service is through the roof. Also, there is a free parking lot around the corner. Great job guys. I don't normally visit Renton but I was riding around Lake Washington last weekend and had some bike troubles as I was passing through. My bottom bracket cups where starting to come loose and there was no way I was going to make the 20mile ride back to Capitol hill without getting it fixed. I made it to GHY and was instantly greeting with a smile and help. One of the workers, Jesse, put my bike up on the stand and fixed it right then and there for me without thinking twice. He was very knowledgeable and showed me how to prevent this problem in the future. Because of them I was able to get home happy and safe. All the workers there were very nice and easy to talk to. The shop is small but full of every type of bike from kids bikes up to hardcore downhill bikes and road bikes. I would highly recommend this place! read more

This is one of my preferred LBS's (local bike shops), and for good reason. The store isn't large, but is well organized. Everyone there seems to know what they're talking about, and they seem like good guys. Hit 'em with questions, and if they don't know, they'll look it up. I've had them order a few items for me, since they just didn't have exactly what I wanted in stock. My friend John turned me onto this shop, where he's been buying stuff for awhile. I'll def be back to order more in the future. Oh, and what really impresses me is that they're even helpful when you call them with questions and/or orders over the phone, despite not knowing who you are. read more
