It was super nice there was another bike shop we went to and they said sorry we don't do tandems. But this place helped us right away. I felt bad because I was able to tip the first guy that helped us but when we came back later I didn't have cash. Thank yall for making our honeymoon great. The shop returned the bike with every barrel adjuster maxed out, limit screws maxed out, front derailleur mounted too high, the front shift cable cut too short to adjust, and the rear shift cable fraying with no end cap. The bike was shifting poorly in the small gears and unsafe to ride. I was also never informed when the bike was ready for pickup. After another $100 at Gregg's for proper adjustment and two new cables, the bike finally worked as it should. Based on this experience, I strongly recommend avoiding this shop. read more

Customer Service. I witnessed one of the employees treat people with discrimination or a prejudgment. I would not write this in a review unless I was sure of what I saw. We stopped by Gerks on 2 separate occasions. Both times the employee implied that my partner stole a bike. Not from Gerks but in a general sense. Either way... I know what I saw and experienced. Discrimination can come in many ways. Prejudgments seem to be a common thing on the shelf at Gerks. I'm a person of color so I know what a prejudgment is and feels like. It's wrong. I will not be spending my hard earned money at this place. There are many other sporting goods stores who are happy to give great customer service. I did not have a good experience with Gerks. The renting portion was fine (Carly upstairs was helpful). The return was very poor. There were 2 employees at the front doing nothing, and their comment to me was "you can just take all that right on upstairs'. I was struggling to carry skis, boots, poles, but they stood there and were zero help. Zero. A "let me help you with that" would have been much more in order. Their body language and vibe was lazy and unhelpful and I left the store with a fully negative view. The store hours were odd also, and made the return difficult. And the price was not much less than resort rental costs. read more

Gerk's had the absolute perfect bike in stock at the perfect price! I'm 6'7" tall and 270 pounds and recently had major spine surgery - so finding a full suspension Electric Mountain Bike that would fit my height and yet go easy on the spine while still having enough electric power to get me safely back out on the trail again has been a very tall order to fill (no pun intended). I've searched online for hours and watched every YouTube eMTB review video made and still was uncertain there was a bike for me out there that would fit my needs and my budget -- but upon arriving at Gerk's Jaimie took the time to show me several options, she adjusted the suspension and the bike to my size and let me test drive and test fit the bikes. So extremely patient and knowledgeable with my long list of special requirements. I usually don't Yelp non food places but this place exceeded my expectations. I damaged my bike and wanted to get it fix asap as the weather was really nice. I stopped by Rei and they looked at it and was going to charge me roughly $80 and I would not be able to get my bike back until a week later. I called up gerk to see how busy they would be and if they are available and they said yes Came there, the guy looked at my bike, played with it for about 5-10 minutes and did some adjustments and fixed my bike! I bought my first roadie from Gerk's 20 yrs ago when he was in Redmond, and have bought 2 from him since. I am familiar with several of the shops in Redmond, Sammamish, and Issaquah. Most of them are quite good. Gerk's is just at another level. They take great care of their customers, and stand by their products. I've been close to other shops, but after several bike service failures, I've had to write them off. Wish them well, but write them off. These people make me feel loved! I have tender feet and Andy has worked hard to make sure my boots are comfy, and then the following season he wants to make sure they are comfy yet once again! They do take a lot -- ok, seriously -- A LOT of my money -- but I do feel they actually care about me! Maybe they don't, but I feel like they actually might. Haha ~ I feel like our relationship goes beyond my credit card and they want to put my family and me into skis and boots that will not make us kill ourselves. I have come to love everyone that works at Gerks! I have been going there for 5 years renting equipment and last year I finally bought my own gear. I wanted skis that were gorgeous but (I think it was Kelly???) that talked me out of them, because, while they were beautiful -- they were NOT the perfect ski for my "average" ability! I can return my items late and they give me a free pass. I can get a tune up on my skis and it feels like happy hour. They pour you a draft beer while you wait for your boots to be remolded and they encourage you and boost your confidence for your next ski trip. I got my bike fitting done by Todd yesterday and I just wanted to write a note to say what a fabulously detailed job he did. He took the time to figure out what would work for me especially since I have a neck injury. The care and attention to details during the fitting appointment made me feel very secure in the knowledge that the best possible knowledge and care was given to help me ride as pain free as possible and with the best possible posture and alignment. I wish I had bought my bike here. When it is time for a bike upgrade I definitely will. I also appreciated the knowledge he had about a few accessories I needed, trying at the same time to educate me on what I needed while balancing it out with my financial constraints. Thank you! Purchased a bike from Gerk's Issaquah last year. The bike is good quality and I am pleased with it. However, my experiences over 3 visits for various mechanical issues and a tune-up showed Gerk's lack of quality customer service. Most of the front-end customer service staff were friendly and helpful. However, one higher-level man, who I believe is the owner, was repeatedly condescending, would look at me without saying hi or asking what I needed, would start doing things without communicating with me about what he was doing to my bike, and just generally left me with a bad vibe. Perhaps as a woman only spending ~$4,000, I was not expert enough to be worth his time. Or, that is the idea he gave me. Also, on one service visit, I specifically asked them to check two issues I had noticed, which they wrote in the service notes. However, when I picked up the bike after service, I asked whether they had checked the issues and was just told, "Well, I'm sure they did because they usually check everything during a tune-up." But they could not give me any specific feedback or resolution on the two issues I brought up, so it seemed they were simply ignored. Gerk's does have a nice selection of bikes and I think they generally have well-educated staff, but if you are looking for great customer service, I suggest trying another shop first. read more

Great customer service, I like how they go above and beyond to answer any questions. I went to pick up a saddle, got my sit bones measured for assurance and able to try a couple on the trainer before deciding. If you're shopping for high quality bike goods, it's not gonna be cheap no surprise there. Thankfully with Specialized warranty/guarantee is meant for riders, racers, and adventurers so we get to enjoy the products rather than keeping it on a pedestal and worry that it might break. Overall a great bike shop with that carries high end S works products, they do retul fitting, and with knowledgeable mechanics. It's my favorite Specialized dealer in WA so far. read more

Bought two bikes for nearly 2000$ total 15 days ago. The bikes went on sale from the manufacturer and their shop today. Called them to see if they will do something to match the price, as it was a good 200$ off on them. They have no price match policy at all. Plus the bikes, though not ridden, cannot be returned though they have just sat in the garage for 19 days. If that is their policy, they are perfectly within their rights to refuse the price match. But I expected a bike shop to value customer loyalty more, and one way to get that is to have a reasonable price match return policy - and not be like a used car sales shop , 'you bought it, gotcha! You are trapped'. Even the maker of the bikes , Specialized has 30 day satisfaction guarantee and price match. All my future service needs or need for future bikes, I would go Redmond Cycles, or the other local shops which have more customer friendly policies. Gerk's just lost my future business. read more

Went to Gerk's on the recommendation of a friend for ski rental equipment for my two children. We are in town from Arizona and needed ski stuff for the season. They were extremely knowledgable and friendly with the kids, and the rental gear was in great shape. Unfortunately, a few days later we found out we would be returning home due to a family emergency. We didn't even get to ski or use the equipment once. Gerk's was extremely accommodating regarding our situation and provided a solution that was acceptable to all involved. They really went above and beyond our expectations and it was completely appreciated. Will definitely be returning for all of our rental and mountain biking needs next time we are in town. Great inventory of Specialized tires and helpful/safe purchasing during covid.

This place has become too big to care. They've lost the "local bike shop" attitude and their customer service reputation. The Specialized brand doesn't deserve this service. Too bad, it was a cool shop. I already had a "meh" experience last time I took one of my bikes for tune up... I let it go. My latest experience: * left the bike for a simple adjustment (racing next week), new tires that i explicitly explain 23 in front, 25 in back, new carbon brake pads and new tubes on Wed. I was told it would be ready that same afternoon and they would call/text. * Didn't hear from them... Called on Friday and after a few mins holding, they tell me it's ready for pick up * Picked up today.... Attendant brings the bike and realizes in that moment me there is something wrong. There is rolling resistance. Technician tells me front tire is too thick. I explained they mounted back tire in the front and front tire in back (this is pretty standard with Conti race tires - Attack/Force combination. I'm surprised they didn't know). They offered to change, i asked him please to ensure the right rotation direction... technician answer..... "this is not the first time i change a tire"...... No comment.... Back tire ended up too thick too. My bad, I bought the wrong tires.....Now... Do i really have to wait until i pick up the bike for THEM and me to find out the tires are too thick..... In my book, that's not caring. After 4 bicycles and over 10 years of continuos service.... they lost my TRUST and my BUSINESS. The 2 stars is because some of the mechanics are top notch. I've been into the shop for quick service items on numerous occasions...all good. Yesterday, I suffered my 3rd flat in two rides so I figured something what up that I wasn't seeing and took it into Gerks' service shop. The tech couldn't see anything wrong with either the tire or the rim so he confidently expressed that the problem was that I was pinching the tube when replacing it since I used tire levers. I asked, 'even though the flats didn't happen immediately'. He said 'oh sure.' Fine, $21 later, I had a new tube installed and was on my way, committed to not using levers when replacing tubes in the future. Well, I went to ride today and, without even sitting on the bike, it was flat. I took it in and the same tech still could not find anything wrong and set about to replace the tube once again. As he was finishing the job, he saw that the tire wall was damaged. Sure enough, it corresponded to the location of the tube failure. He concluded that my brake pads were not aligned properly, were hitting and thus damaged the tire which led to the flats. Fine. Hook me up wit a new tire (damn). However, he was unwilling to give me any credit for the work done the previous day. When I pointed out that he misdiagnosed the problem, he said that I watched him and I didn't pick it up either. Whoa, 'you want me to take responsibility for you missing the problem'. He was very reluctant to take any responsibility for his failure. What I expected him to do was to charge me for replacing the tube and tire and then deducting the previous charges. That would be taking responsibility for his work. He was very reluctant. Mistakes get made, fine, but you have to take responsibility for them! When it came time to pay, he was charging me for the tire only but giving no credit for yesterday's charges. The final tally may have been the same but we were so worked up at this point, I asked about the previous charges and he just told me to get out of the shop (with the new tire/tube) and to essentially take my business elsewhere. F - customer service and communication F - taking responsibility for his work I WILL be taking my service work to the MANY other shops eager for the business. read more

Short version: I can't imagine going to another bicycle shop. Long version: I'd been in to Gerk's previously to buy mountain bikes for my kids with good results, but after my experience last week, this is my go-to shop. I was in the area and in need of a couple of parts, and dropped in. Being new to road cycling, I asked a few questions of the guy helping me - Myk - who not only patiently answered my questions, but also took 20 minutes out of his day (without my asking) to show me how to properly change a flat. I was blown away by the great customer service that day, but also from the service I've received in the past on the ski side of the shop, from Kevin, and also Brian. They're stand-up people, and I'll happily refer by biking and skiing friends to Gerk's from now on. read more

I visited every local bike shop on the Eastside and even some in Seattle in the search for my next bike, and Gerk's was by far the most personable, knowledgeable, and easy-going bike shop that I visited. I purchased a new bike from them last night (8/16/12), and had a fantastic experience. Mason is passionate about bikes and takes the time to explain the pro's and con's of each model in a very personable way. This is a talent, as many of the bike shop pro's can come across as a bit condescending - or at least just assume that you know what you want without taking the time to explain some of the important details. Also, some bike shops can go overboard with the amount of paperwork and requirements even for a simple test-ride, but Gerk's is much more laid back about it. REI would be my 2nd choice as a good place to test ride bikes. Gerk's also has excellent pricing on their bikes, and is one of the few shops that doesn't try to get full MSRP on every bike. Once I narrowed down my choice of bikes, I price shopped the local bike stores and couldn't beat Gerk's pricing. This is where REI is at a disadvantage, because I discovered that some of their bikes were selling for over MSRP (such as the Scott Scale Elite). I think they do this on some of their bikes to compensate for the dividend you'll get back on the purchase as an REI member. However, I'd rather save money on the purchase price rather than get a dividend back. Here's my quick run-down of the local bike shops (in random order): 1. Issaquah REI: Adam was one of my favorite guys to talk to, so if you're going to buy a bike at this location I highly recommend him. They also have a good selection of mountain bikes, although most of them are mid-level bikes. 2. Seattle REI: I actually found a bike there I wanted, but it was in the back waiting on a repair. They were unwilling to tell me when it would be available, and I've had it on hold for at least three weeks now with no more information. This tells me that they're not very customer-service focused, at least not in that instance. 3. Redmond REI: Less of a selection than the other REI's for mountain bikes. Tough area for test-rides. This was my least favorite REI location for bikes. 4. Kirkland Bicycles: I went here twice, and felt that the staff was mediocre. Nothing majorly wrong, but they weren't very eager to talk to me about bikes. 5. Gregg's: This is a nice-looking shop with a lot of inventory, but I feel like I get less personal service here than at Gerk's or even REI. This feels the most 'corporate' of all bike shops. 6. Gerk's Issaquah: My favorite bike shop: very personable staff, great pricing, and an overall great experience. 7. Gerk's Redmond: Smaller than Issaquah, but the staff here are just as good as the Issaquah location. Also, if you are new to shopping for bikes it may help to know that there's no single location that carries all bike manufacturers, so you definitely have to shop around. Most bike shops carry a specific line of bikes, so at Gerk's you'll find Specialized and Felt models. REI carries Cannondale, Novara, Scott Scale, Surley, and a few others. Greg's carries Specialized, Trek, and a few others. Kirkland Bicycles carries Cannondale. read more

Let me start of by saying they do have quite a bicycle selection for the avid cyclist. However, they do offer entry-level bicycles for those looking to do some extra recreational riding. They do have road, mountain and hybrid bicycles. I gave them 2 stars b/c their customer service and help was below par. We didn't get greeted or asked if we needed help until 15 minutes later. When we did get some help, they were somewhat helpful, except for the guy that appeared condescending to us. I'm a intermediate/advanced mountain biker, so I know my bikes. If you know what bike you want at a great price, I suggest this store. If you're looking to ask questions and don't know much about bikes, I would probably recommend checking out other local bike stores in the area. I went to Gerk's in search of custom molded ski boots for my upcoming trip to Whistler after suffering through poorly fitting boots for years. They had to order the boots for me, and the shipment was delayed. Since they know I was leaving for Whistler on Monday, Gerk tracked down my boot, ultimately trading for it with another shop to get my size. 4:56pm. Saturday. 2 weeks before X-mas. Getting out of car and the young employee quickly closes and locks the doors and turns off the "OPEN" sign. What kind of shop owner closes their doors on a Saturday night before Christmas? 5pm... really? He saw us unloading our kids and heading in. Guess he had to get to a party. Drove over to REI to spend my $$. They were open until 9pm....mmmmmmm Owner should really re-think their hours. Lost my business.... fool. read more

This used to be a great bike shop. The service quality has plummeted. I have given this shop a few chances over the last year and every time something has gone wrong. This last instance was the last straw. I dropped a part off to be sent in to the manufacture for service. They told me it was going to be $160-$200 + shipping + tax. This seemed high to me and I decided to call a service center myself. They told me it would be around $40. I decided to send it myself and called Gerk's and told them to not ship the part. The tech who answered the phone was extremely rude and condescending. A few days later, I went into the shop to pick it up and they charged me! Because they had to do "work" on it. But, no work was performed and no diagnosis was even needed, it just needed to be shipped in. Yet they still "put time into it." That will be the last time I go to this bike shop. Even if I just need a brake cable, I will drive the extra 30 minutes each way to Woodinville Bicycle where they know how to treat their customers. read more

The first sign of sun, after the thaw of the pacific northwest, all pansy-ass bikers want to dust off their fancy bikes that's been stored inside the garage since the first rainfall of autumn. That includes me, yours truly. The husband said we need to get the bikes tuned so I call Gerk's in Issaquah and ask about their turn-around time. The guy said just bring it in and we'll get it looked at and taken care of. Sure enough, hubby's Rubaix goes in, goes up on the rack and in a few minutes bike is ready to go. My Ruby goes on the rack and it's said that it needs to be kept a bit longer. Bummer. The next day the bike was ready to be picked up first thing in the morning! Customer service is always super friendly. Their work is good and fast! Prices is more than reasonable. It was a great experience, as always. read more

I'm an easy blue skier with wide, large feet. They hooked me up with boots that are perfect for me, and then have adjusted them a couple times for me to take it to the next level, even punching it out to accommodate a bunion as well as adding small wedges inside the boot to fix an inward pronation.
