The food is not great here I went last night and $65 worth of take out because of corona virus. We ordered egg rolls, lemons grass chicken, Korean beef, curry chicken, and Mongolian beef. The only two okay dishes were the curry chicken and lemon grass chicken. The Mongolian beef was soy based and had a horrible flavor and to top it off there was sand/mud particles in the green onions used. There are a few times where I'm really thrown of by Yelp Reviews and this is one of those times. There is no way in hell this restaurant deserves 4.5 stars . My suspicion is two fold; A. They are paying a service to put fake reviews Or B. When you have only one restaurant that serves a particular need and this all you have to compare it with. As a vegan and a food I assure you that this place is not worth a drive from Berkeley as is stated by one reviewer who only has two reviews total. That to me is suspect. I live in Brentwood and to go to a vegan restaurant I have to drive to Oakland to get the best vegan restaurant ever or some Thai restaurants in Walnut Creek, even the Burmese restaurant is far superior then place. But since it is lent, I told myself to try more vegan restaurants just to experience, and you know, be able to train my pallet to different taste buds. Isolated in an empty plaza, hidden all the way towards the back end, is where this restaurant is located. Parking is always available, literally, there isn't that many stores nearby. As far as location to walk around to other shops, kind of lame. I guess there used to be a supermarket around the corner, but... it closed down and boarded up. Ambiance was completely weird. It looked like a retro diner shop that you would go and get bacon and eggs. Kind of ghetto in my opinion, it's like the went to go buy the cheapest dining tables ever. I'm not a fan... I ordered the Bun Bo Hue of course, it's vegan. The flavor of the broth was good. But then again, the broth is mostly lemongrass and some add'l spices. And to get certain sweetness I know they use some type of other vegetables, but it was good though. No complaints. The MEAT... ok... umm.. I know Beyond Meat says you can't tell the difference, and I'm not saying that they used this company, but the meat patties were ... not up to my standards. The patty cakes were okay. This place is one of the only vegan restaurants in antioch. I order take out from here when visiting my family at their home. The price is great for the food you order here compared to other vegan places that are way over priced. Love love loved it!!! Took my vegan niece here and she loved everything. We ordered the pad Thai, curry chicken, spring rolls, pot stickers, Korean beef, clay pot and the banana egg roll dessert. She loved everything, the pot stickers were super crispy and everything was very flavorful. The clay pot was my favorite, tons of flavor. Who knew Antioch was hiding this little vegan gem! Now I'm not a vegan by any means so I don't have too much to compare this place too, but I found this place to be great. For a vegan place, I thought they also had quite the selection of food to choose from. I ordered the Korean Sesame Beef and it was pretty tastey. Not the full on Korean flavor that I am used to when ordering not vegan Korean food but the flavor was definitely there. As for the portion, I was pleasantly surprised that there was enough and then some that I was able to have leftovers for the next day. I seriously can't get enough of this place... Not only is the staff super friendly but the food is out of this world, it's hard to believe it's vegan. I usually get their broccoli beef, fried rice, chow fun, and orange chicken. Ok, just wow. I never expected to find a vegan restaurant like this in Antioch. I am thoroughly impressed. I ordered the avocado smoothie to start with. The server said she loved it, and I wasn't disappointed. I took a while to peruse the menu (there's a lot of options for entrees). I ended up ordering something with noodles, "beef," and "prawns." I have a terrible memory so I don't recall what number it was. Anyway, it was delicious! The "prawns" were the best part. I've never had vegan prawns before, and I will definitely be coming back to have some more. The seasoning was just right; all I had to do was add some Sriracha for heat. After that, I decided to treat myself and get some banana rolls for dessert. They were perfectly crispy! It came with some ice cream topped with peanuts, and I adored it. The server was very nice, but she seemed forgetful. I had to go up and ask her for more water and a spoon for my dessert. The interior was very clean, although not big. I can imagine it would be cramped if there was a lunch rush. The pricing here is amazing. The amount of food was almost too much, and the entree was only $8.50. Great, delicious vegan food! I'm a connoisseur of vegan food products because my Buddhist background encouraged eating vegan meals to relief animals from suffering. I didn't think a vegan "beef" pho could taste so much like the actual beef broth pho, but this place makes the flavors so delicious and comparable to a real high quality beef pho! I ordered go vegan to go the other day and honestly I don't understand all theses reviews. I ordered spring rolls, potstickers, broccoli beef and fried rice. I'm not sure if they don't use any seasoning or something but everything was bland and tasteless. Spring rolls are practically vegan anyway (unless they have shrimp) but these had some funky flavor that I had to spit them out. The only edible item was the potstickers but even those weren't great. Wow, I am so glad I tried this place! I am from out of town and vegan, I can never find nutritious, tasty food to eat. I searched by my hotel and decided to try-yeah for me! First, the portions are HUGE. If you are a light eater one will do you for dinner and lunch the next day. I ordered the spring rolls and the mojo mojo appetizers, the tofu w lemongrass, the pad thai, and the mixed vegie tofu mains. All were awesome. 2 of us ate this for 2 full days lol. This place is fantastic. I ordered the Spring Rolls and they were VERY fresh, flavorful and included plenty of peanut sauce for dipping. My friend got the Pad Thai which comes with chicken and prawns. This was her first time at a vegan restaurant and she was initially impressed with the quantity that she was given. After eating it, she was impressed with the flavors and textures as well.. I tasted one prawn and one piece of chicken and they both had their own unique flavor and the texture was spot on. Excellent Place! Can't wait to return! My first time here and my first official vegan meal out. Today is day 4 of no animal products for me and I feel absolutely amazing! But, enough about me, let's talk about Go Vegan. Outside Appearance: Unfortunately, the shopping center they're in is not very plush, but the front of their establishment is well kept and inviting. I love that they have pictures of meals on the windows so you can see some of what they offer before entering. Inside: Neat, clean, quaint, peaceful and no weird smells. Even the restroom was spic and span and stocked with all the necessary items. I love that! Etcetera etcetera... Isaiah greeted me as soon as I walked in. I'm a little hard of hearing, but I also think he talks a bit softly. We had a great time chatting and figuring out what I should order. If he hadn't helped me, I would've been there all day! He recommended a few things and I chose number 34, the Mojo Wrap for only $5.50. I'm usually not big on wraps because they're either dry or flavorless or something, but this one was fantastic! Actually it was 2 wraps and some sort of sweet brown sauce. No idea what it was but I liked it too. I had to ask Isaiah if he was sure that everything there was vegan friendly because the regular names and mouth watering pictures were so deceiving! This place will be a regular for me for sure! Go Vegan is aptly named in that one should go to Antioch if they wanna try legit Vietnamese Vegan food. I had only been to Antioch one other time, so I can't really say whether or not this place is conveniently located or not. However, after trying this place out, I have a feeling I'm gonna be visiting this part of the (very) extended East Bay much more often. It's a clean brand spankin' new place, so it's already got that going for it. Even if the strip mall locale leaves a bit to be desired. I'm not sure where they found the waitress, perhaps she was the only person in Antioch that is Vegan, but she was really nice and great on the customer service side, despite appearing to be new to the business and Vietnamese food in general. Luckily this wasn't my first rodeo. When it come to Vietnamese cuisine, I know what I like. Bun Bo Hue Chay, Com Chien, Chay, and Goi Cuon Chay. Butchery of the Vietnamese language aside, these are my go to's when trying any new Vietnamese place. Go Vegan does these mainstays and more, all in delicious fashion. They were offering a free egg roll since it was grand opening period. That too was well made, with a tasty dipping sauce. I have a feeling they will be offering this "grand opening" offer for a long time to come. The Combination Fried Rice was a hit! Little bits of everything were tossed in, leading up to a mouthful of some of the best fried rice you'll find anywhere. We got the Lemongrass Chick'n which I loved the flavor of. It was really well cooked where the spices actually stayed on the "meat". While it was a bit chewy, I loved that they included lots of veggies with this dish. Many places that we frequent often leave veggies as a garnish, despite being a "Vegan" or "Vegetarian" restaurant. The only thing that wasn't amazing was the Bun Bo Hue. It was much more brown in color than I am used to, and lacked the spicy kick that I love. Then again, it was just perfect for my babygirl who doesn't crave the heat as much as I do. So in a way, it was good since I could add as much Sriracha to my portion until my heart's content. If that's not enough, there's even Vegetarian fishless sauce at the table, to boost the flavor a bit more. The Fried Banana w/Ice Cream was heavenly. Perfectly, lightly fried naners practically melted in your mouth. That's even before you get to the vanilla ice cream that was so creamy, it was hard to believe it was dairy free. I don't believe they make their own ice cream, but I really couldn't guess what brand it was. And this is coming from someone who has tried ALL the brands out there. DO NOT leave here without getting a Thai Iced Tea and/or a Vietnamese Coffee. Both of them were unidentifiable from their dairy laced counterparts. I had never had a decent Vegan Vietnamese Coffee before, so this was a particular treat for me. It's interesting to find such a restaurant in a faraway suburb. They don't appear to belong to any "Supreme Master" chain, but ya never know. You certainly wouldn't be able to tell other than the bright green color scheme. I'm just happy there are newfound Vegan options way out here in the middle of nowhere. UPDATE 09/29/15: I received a response from the owner regarding my review, he mocked me for reviewing steakhouses and bakeries. He also said he uses the same products as other restaurants around town. First, if you read my prior reviews you can see that all my food reviews (theres only 3) clearly indicate that I am vegetarian and egg-less. Regardless of my diet, my point is that it's not right to advertise as a Vegan restaurant if you knowingly have products that contain eggs. Alot of vegetarians eat eggs BUT this is not advertised as only a vegetarian restaurant, it is advertised as VEGAN restaurant and is named "Go Vegan". I just want people who choose not to consume eggs to know that this place is not 100% vegan friendly. Also, instead of the owner responding with some type of concern or "we will look into the matter" he was crude and unprofessional. With that said, I will add poor customer service as another reason I will not visit this establishment. --- BEWARE!! For all strict vegans and lacto vegetarians please note that this restaurant does have some products that contain eggs. After enjoying this restaurant many times, I asked our server what "chicken" they used since I enjoyed it so much. They were very accommodating and brought the package to show us (see attached). I noticed that the "chicken" contains egg albumin powder. I later researched the ingredient and confirmed that it is in fact an egg product. I called the restaurant and asked to speak to the manager and explained to him that strict vegetarians and vegans visit this restaurant and expect no egg products. The manager responded with "a lot of vegetarians eat eggs now". I then mentioned that some people have egg allergies, and he responded with, "not that many people have egg allergies". Thanks Brandi, John B and fellow Yelpers for recommending this place. We ate here yesterday and loved it! When we looked at the menu it seemed similar to Loving Huts' menus. When we asked our server he said it wasn't. He told us that a couple owned and ran the place. There were so many items on the menu--we had a hard time narrowing it down to just a couple of choices, We ordered: Fried Wonton filled with tofu and veggie ham and a lightly sweet sauce--so delicious! Kale salad---we loved it too! My vegan, kale loving husband declared it phenomenal! We also got the crunchy noodles with vegetables---perfect! I love any kind of crispy noodles and there was a nice variety of freshly sautéed veggies. The portions here are huge. Mr Rinky and I are big eaters and there was more than enough for us, especially with an order of brown rice. The service was friendly and helpful. Wish they weren't so far away. We'd love to go there with about 8-10 people nd try lots of different appetizers and entrees. A child at the table next to us ordered a bowl of won ton soup---it looked so delicious. It must have been because she finished it. Although they have only been open a few months they already seem to have a loyal following! Next time we're in Antioch (maybe at the nearby Black Diamond Mines) we'll DEFINITELY set here again! read more
