I visited with a friend, who wanted a salad because she'd missed lunch. The design your own salad appealed to her and it is nice that they offer a half salad option and a full salad option (the half is fairly large). The staff made it to-go as she requested (she knew she'd want to take some of it home). It was a decent salad, although the salad and a small bottle of water came to almost $20, which seemed sort of expensive for a counter restaurant type of place. Unfortunately, a visit to the restroom before leaving sort of spoiled the experience. Our family absolutely loves the pita wraps here but we rarely get to visit. Today we used the kiosk for the first time and I'm not sure what happened but my selection of the pita somehow changed in the process and we were super disappointed to get home and discover the order was missing our pita chicken caesar. I tried to call but it would just ring and ring before hanging up. Great place. Amazing service. But if you use the kiosk PLEASE double check it captures it correctly a before you leave so you don't end up disappointed like our trip this time around. read more

I've been coming here for years and the salads have always been pretty good. My recent order was a half salad, but this time the portion seems smaller than before. My salad was heavily dressed with the salad dressing and next time I'll def order it on the side. I ordered at the kiosk and it wasn't until afterwards that I realized that the salad I chose was one of their daily specials for a discounted rate. I let the man know when my order was ready that I didn't receive the daily special price which was less than what I paid at the kiosk. I was hoping he would be able to refund me the difference, but instead he leaned over, touched my hand and told me that he would remember me for next time and hook me up. Nice change from the fast food in the area. Was shopping with a friend and saw the Salad Maker sign, thought why not? Happy we did. Shared a Turkey avocado club and had a chicken apple crisp salad, minus walnuts add almonds. Fixings are added in front of you and the staff asked plenty of questions as to specifics on what I wanted. You can go half or large on the salad, the half size was plenty big, especially sharing a sandwich. The ask if you want your dressing mixed in or on the side. If it's mixed in they toss it in a big bowl so it's nice and mixed. The ingredients tasted fresh, sandwich was excellent. Slight toast to the sourdough bread, nice amount of avocado on it. The dining room looked a bit under construction, baseboards removed, a bit of damage to the exisiting facade, but appeared clean. Enjoyed our lunch, happy we stopped. read more

The guy who helped me, barely filled up the box, when I told him what I wanted he used his tongs in a way that he didn't want to grab too much. This place is my go-to lunch spot whenever I'm at the Streets of Brentwood. There's a large selection of tasty sandwiches, salads, and even soups. The tuna salad is my favorite... but not gonna lie, I wish they'd bring back the Japanese wasabi salad they had back in the day. *Hint-hint, wink-wink, nudge-nudge* lol The restaurant is always clean and pleasant inside. But that's where to compliments stop. The turkey looks like cheap discount brand turkey loaf with a rubbery texture, and the bacon is clearly microwave ready. Also, the description of the turkey club is that it comes on sourdough bread but this is a ciabatta role. The sandwich/salad combo is almost $20. I wouldn't spend my money on a sandwich here again. Wow what a horrible experience, I ordered soup and salad combo and my date ordered a sandwich, utilizing the kiosk to order. My soup came out freezing cold, but the server insisted she warmed it up no big deal I sent it back of course to be reheated. About 10 min later my 1/2 of sandwich finally came out, and what a disappointment. My sandwiched had one piece of thinly sliced deli meat folded in half. The frozen soup may have been worse. The consistency is horrible the taste is underwhelming, and we are still waiting on our order to be completed as other people are being served. We question staff and I guess they forgot to make our other sandwich. So 5 min later Sandwich finally comes and it's the wrong sandwich. Not a good experience at all. I love the idea of this place. Salad, sandwiches and açaí!? When I went in today there appeared to be 3 younger girls working and there was no one eating inside. 4 of the tables had plates and food on them. The floor also had food on it. All of this would be ok, I'm sure the girls were in the back cleaning or something but then a cockroach walked across the floor in the middle of the dining area. I'm not sure if this is a known regional problem. Either way, management should enforce stronger cleaning practices. One girl could be on reg, one making the salads and the third bussing and washing dishes with gusto. Please call an exterminator pronto. Went there today and had two sandwiches and two salads. Both were very fresh and staff was good.

This review is based on today. I've been back a few times since my last review and experiences were okay. It's been at least a year or two since I've been in. First...the place is really dark now. I could not tell if they were open from the outside but saw the hours so I tried to open the door. No one was waiting in line, I mean NO ONE! I have NEVER been to Salad Makers without a line, ever. That was a red flag for me. The young lady that helped me was nice, so I am not downplaying her or her service. Another thing was, usually there's music playing and 3-4 teens working there. It was complete silence with the young lady upfront by herself and someone from the back came up and went back. Oookkkaayyy.... I ordered my regular order...MYOS with romaine, mushrooms, grilled chicken, bacon bits (though I don't eat pork anymore, got it on the side for someone else), Parmesan cheese, and Caesar dressing. I add an egg and have it mixed. The container...is much smaller than what I am used to. I believe there was a change in law and styrofoam cannot be used anymore. Well this Kraft paper container is like half of the other once but the price is higher. With the other container, they would stack your order up and still be able to get the lid closed. This container is about 3 inches tall with a lid you press down so there is no room for overflow. Got past that and took my order home. When I got home, instantly noticed that it was all soggy. I literally drive at most 10 minutes home and it was already soggy. Still was going to try it so I did. The salad had no flavor which made no sense to me. That's when I realized exactly how runny the dressing was. I think the lettuce was soaked in water, like it was rinsed but not dried properly afterwards. I ate maybe a 1/3 of it at most and the rest is going in the trash along with my $17. Also noticed there was no rewards and I had a free salad last time I came. I guess the new owners aren't honoring it or continuing with the program. All in all, I'm not going back. There is a totally different vibe, the food is not good; I don't see it staying open for much longer like this. Really sucks because it has been a staple in the Streets of Brentwood forever. read more

HUMONGO salads, accommodating staff, great food! Me and my boyfriend both wanted a Cobb salad, so we decided to share a large instead of ordering two smalls. We ordered extra chicken and the staff were accommodating to our topping adjustments. $18 did seem a little pricy for a salad, but GODDAMN we received a bowl bigger than Cheesecake Factory. I feel bad about giving a negative review, but as a small business owner, I feel I need to. First, poor management! 1 person working. She was so frazzled that she could not be efficient. Never been in here, It was a little more than what I expected. I went in thinking it was just salad. But they have plenty on the menu, more than just salad. You'll see this spot when you enter Brentwood shopping on the turnaround. It's a counter serve cafe/restaurant. You can choose one of their salads on the menu or you can create your own, pick your greens then your protein. The way you order is almost like the "chipotle" concept. You choose your items, pay at the end of the counter, choose a table if you can get one. I chose to make my own salad. I had mixed greens, with walnuts, cranberries, bacon, some proteins and topped it off my choice of dressing. It was delicious! The greens were fresh and so were all the toppings. This place actually has pretty amazing salads. However, their hours are probably the worst for a restaurant. What kind of a restaurant closes at 6 PM during the dinner rush? I can see closing at seven later dinners maybe even eight but six right smack in the middle of dinner time? I've eaten here several times and I've had to race home to get a salad. If you're running a business and you want to be successful, maybe think about people who get off work at 5 o'clock in Walnut Creek and can't make it to your location by six. When I jokingly mentioned it to the owner one time or whoever was that was managing I don't know which Their attitude was that. It's not their problem. It's mine.
