I had to downgrade my rating for Viet Palace, sadly. I was craving a good bowl of Pho and I stopped by at 8:30 PM. Their posted hours on the door as well as on Yelp say that they are open until 9 PM. When I walked in, there was no worker to be found. A young man emerged, and he looked confused. I asked what time they were open until. He said 9 PM. It seemed like he finally realized that I wanted to eat, and he tried to take my order to go, although he didn't give me a menu. I asked if I could be seated and get a menu. He awkwardly said OK. After I sat down, he came over and said that the cook might leave early, and that I might want to hurry up and order. I politely excused myself and said that I would come back another time. I then drove to another nearby restaurant that also is open till 9 PM. I didn't get there until 9:35 PM, but they served me and were very pleasant, and I had a great dinner. Last time I been here I got the seafood shrimp boil with crab. But I remember when they first opened. The service has always been amazing. The owner is amazing. If you ever get a chance to meet her you can tell she is good vibe type individual. The food is always really good, I recommend the shaking beef or lemon grass chicken with garlic noodles. The portions are fair and well priced. The restaurant was clean and spacious enough for a big group. The servers are usually pretty young and not extremely personable, however they get the job done. There are reasons why I do not go into empty restaurants. My first time and this place and I'm 99% sure it will be my last. Walking in is was extremely empty (staff on their cellphones and not one said hello). The place looked clean until I more into the restaurant (tables should have been cleaned). I went into the bathroom to wash my hands before ordering and the restroom was a hot mess (dirty, tissue & paper towel everywhere, a pad on the floor, water on the floor, etc). It looks like the restroom hadn't been touched in over a week. The waiter took our appetizer order and said he will come back for our food order. 20 + minutes went by without him coming to check on us. Mind you, the place is still empty and he is on his cellphone chillin. We finally ordered & the food was a 2.5/5 (we had to add seasoning and sauce to it. I was so excited to try this place based on the high ratings on Yelp. Very disappointed. The garlic noodles were okay so I'll give them that. The chicken pho - meh. I ordered Imperial Rolls and expected Imperial Rolls but apparently they called this Imperial Shrimp Rolls, which was just a piece of un-cleaned shrimp wrapped in an egg roll wrapper, then fried. It was full of vein/shit and I could not eat it. Garbage. WTF - is it so hard to devein the shrimp? Plus this ain't no imperial roll! I guess if you want yo try this place and want imperial rolls, you should order the Crispy Eggroll. They also use styrofoam and no lining so the rolls burned completely through and that's gross and cancer causing. I thought they banned styrofoam a long time ago? Maybe not. We just dropped by Viet Palace and I thought it was an ok experience! I think the worst was how thick and gross the vein was on their "imperial rolls". See picture We ordered four items: 1) banh xeo - viet crepe. Surprisingly the best thing we ordered. Really liked it but wish that their dipping sauce was better and that they gave us a bit more veggie. 2) brisket pho - noodles were over cooked and the meat wasn't tender. Broth was ok. I had to ask their wait staff for hoisin and the herbs that come with pho a few times. They didn't just bring it out with my pho 3) beef banh mi - beef had good flavor but they didn't cut the meat with the grain, so it was tough to chew. Very salty. Needed more herbs and veggie. 4) imperial rolls were a total let down. We expected pork but they were shrimp, just shrimp with no seasoning it seems. The grossest thing was how thick the poop vein in every single roll. They looked homemade and they should have de veined it Service was pretty mid. I have never been in the restaurant to dine but I have ordered and had food delivered from this restaurant several times. So my review is based solely on the actual food and not the ambience or cleanliness of the restaurant. The garlic noodles with shaking beef is my go to order at this restaurant, it is really good. My only complaint for this order is the dish could have been seasoned a little better I don't really taste the garlic, that's my only issue. I had to "doctor" it up a little with some seasonings at home but overall I enjoyed my meal. I love the potatoes and the green and red peppers, tasty. My over all rating is a 3.5 but Yelp doesn't give an opinion for half points. I would recommend this dish for sure. read more

Came back after maybe a year, since we live in Vallejo. This was one of our ABSOLUTE favorite places to eat at. Things have drastically changed since our last visit, and not for the better. We were informed that there's a new manager and chef by the nice young man. To start, I will say this rating has nothing to do with the staff, they are always polite, although I will say, that every time we have a question about ingredients, they never seem to know. 1. Fried calamari 0/10... it looks like long nuggets, may have come frozen, super oily and looked old. We have it back before I could think of taking a picture. Please listen to me when I say, DO NOT order. 2. Shrimp seafood boil 0/10... look at the picture. This is the entire bag. We had not touched it yet. How sad does it look? I also added corn and I got 1 piece... they said they didn't have the palace or imperial style, so we tried the bitter garlic.... Just don't do it!! Flavorless. 3. I had my typical shaken beef with noodles and that was still good! 4. Hubby had Banh Xeo and it was nice and crispy. The young man informed us that they now sell sisig here which is supposed to be really good, and that's great, but this is supposed to be a Vietnamese restaurant. Kinda all over the place. Really sad to see how the quality of some foods has declined. Hopefully they can figure things out soon, before business gets affected. I had to ask for everything to be brought to our table... the basics and she had attitude. My family is Vietnamese and we support family-owned business. Came back to this spot after hearing it's under new ownership. Happy to report that the food is still just as good as I remember--seems like the same chef is still in the kitchen, which is a big plus! That said, the service left a bit to be desired. The decoration is much better than in any other normal Vietnamese restaurant, but other than that, everything else we tried was meh. First off, I ordered two catfish banh mi. One is regular with everything and one is without pickles, reddish, carrots or cilantro. However, what we got were both with pickles and no reddish or carrots or cilantro. Yet there are no markings of the difference between the two (maybe because they didn't make it differently according to the order). Then, my friend's order came without pickles, which was not what she had ordered. Lastly, inside the sandwich were lettuce, mayo, and tomato, which were not exactly what a banh mi has. The spring roll is tasteless. The passion fruit drink with less sugar is still too sweet. On the other hand, the rice plates look decent, but we did not venture to try more. Service was good though. They should have closed for the night for a private event and not take walk ins. Unfortunately they had one of our items out behind the bar for I don't know how long and just wrapped it for us to take home. So since the service was poor we didn't get everything that was needed for our meal. It is one of my favorite meals but didn't get all that comes with it. I haven't been here in a year decided to give it another try and we were not disappointed. We came in on a Saturday night were the only ones there but not for long the restaurant filled up quickly. We came in and were seated right away. The Warriors game was playing on TV. We had the chicken wings as an appetizer they were delicious. I had a mango margarita that was good as well. VP was recommended by bff's parent's residing in Pitts and are frequent patrons of the restaurant. We gave them a try looking for a good Pho spot after a visit at the urgent care in Antioch. They're situated in a sleepy shopping area, DMV is just about the only thing that's busy on a Thursday afternoon. My daughter in her sickly state wanted kids chicken pho - w/ lots of lime and hoisin. Devoured til the last drop! My seafood pho was also delicious, had small scallops and calamari and lobster balls, along w/ the standard imitation crab and scrimps. Great seafood broth and loads of sea critter polypeptides and rice noodles. We also ordered their Vietnamese Crepe w/ just scrimp. Food is Ace! Even the young girls servicing the tables were attentive and checked on our likings, much to what other customers had to say about them. They're fine...My only fuss was the "rotisserie" style chicken for take out, which was the hubby's order. It looked a little sad w/ a very well-done and very "fried" 1/2 game hen rice plate. Our first meal in Pittsburg from a long road trip so we were craving Vietnamese food and over ordered for the two us (per usual). I loved how fresh all the lettuce and veggies were. We started with fresh spring rolls with shrimp and pork. The lettuce was very crisp and the peanut sauce was just how my mom made it. We then got the papaya and mango salad which was very refreshing and the fruits were a nice ripeness. For the mains we got the banh xeo, bun bo hue, and pho dac biet. The banh xeo was crunchy on the outside and filled with pork, shrimp and bean sprouts. The nuoc mam was lighter in flavor. The BBH had all the spices you'd want and the tendon was super soft! The only thing stopping this Restaurant from being the Best Vietnamese Restaurant in this area is the Service. The Establishment is clean and orderly, comfortable. The Food is Fantastic, hats off to the Chefs, the portions are proudly served as well. But you will have to deal with waiting to be seated and serviced even if the place is empty! Once they take your order and deliver your meals you won't see them again for more water, drinks, etc.. I been through it several times and put up with it because the meals are great!
