Pros: Decent public course. Lots of hills to challenge you. You can play it either as 18 or nine hole. It has a driving range. Holes are decent length. Cons: Lots of dirt for walking paths. Gets pretty muddy after a rainstorm. The holes nearest the freeway are super loud. A few of the holes are packed in tight. Get a decent amount of stay shots from players on other holes. read more

Husband and I golfed here for the first time yesterday and it was a great time and perfect weather! We are mostly fair-weather golfers, we normally play executive courses. Here's my critique! Positives: *location! So cool having a great establishment in Oceanside, this area in particular. Proud of the accomplishments our city is making. *ocean views *new carts *cool/modern aesthetic. Like their marketing and logo and color scheme *casual/no frills atmosphere Areas for improvement: *was really looking forward to checking out the "bar" I had seen posted on their Instagram page. It isn't a bar truly. No bartender, no hard alcohol. Maybe this place is more family/Jr. Golf focused and if that's the case, I get it & can respect that but there has to be a better middle ground. We were looking forward to either a bar cart or being able to purchase a 6 pack deal at the snack shack kind of thing! *the snack shack is the same building as the pro shop. I see this at several other local courses, but it's hard to want to stick around for a beer to enjoy if I have to wait on people checking in, etc. would be great to see the bar/snack area separate.malso, if outside drinks are frowned upon, it has to be easier/more appetizing to purchase drinks here. *this place is new and I'm sure they're working on this as I type. Better signage in snack bar/pro shop. To keep people moving in and out quickly (esp if there's just one kid working), I need to be able to see exactly what snacks/foods/drinks are offered quickly. Again, a suggestion for moving food and drink out to bar area completely and keeping people lingering and buying longer. *better directions on how to get from hole to hole (for all the new people wanting to come out and take a whack). We were literally clueless how to get from hole 1 to 2. Someone gave us a holler and pointed. We did the same when we were on the 18th hole and saw another guy totally lost on his way to hole 2. It's kind of fun in a way not knowing, this place is a bit whimsical ... But prob makes for quicker/safer play to reconsider the specific holes that are poorly marked. *i was a bar cart girl at a local course in my early 20s and a golf course is a great place for kids to work and learn a bit about business. However, they are the face of the company and we walked into the pro shop for our tee time and were not greeted. The kid was shy I think. Now...this is going to be weird. The course itself SUCKS!!! But, because it sucks...there are not a lot of people, which is GREAT. Lots or dirt patches and brown grass. It is a very compact course with the holes in close proximity to each other (one green actually had three pins for three different holes...if ya can believe that). I didn't see a 19th hole for refreshments (but then, I wasn't looking). I was there just a couple weeks ago with two of my boys and one of their friends. We hit a bucket of balls from the driving range while we were waiting for our carts. The driving range was overrun with squirles as was the rest of the course. Once we started out on our journey, we didn't feel rushed at all. We only had one guy play through which wasn't any problem at all for us. Goat Hill is also a Frisbee Golf course. So we ran into a couple of them too which wasn't any big deal (we let them play through too). Regardless...I will definitely be going back to Goat Hill. My peeps and I are not very good, just hackers at heart...LOL. We only do it for the exercise and the camaraderie, we're not trying to get on the PGA tour. read more

Tough to rate this star wise. If you know goat hill, you know what to expect. This is not a pga course by any stretch. Tons of character and the staff is very helpful and friendly. Ok so the cart paths are 90% dirt/gravel. If you are a foursome you will feel gritty when you leave. That's about the biggest negative all around. The dust is a bit much after a few holes. Greens and fairways are a rough but again if you understand what to expect this is a fun course and appropriately named. Yes it is very hilly. read more

Being my neighborhood golf course, I have been really excited to watch the transformation under the new management. The improvements to the course has been remarkable, and I am sure will continue as access to reclaimed water and improvements to the clubhouse become a reality. This is not an easy course, but it's a fun course. As a relatively new golfer, the course can be somewhat unforgiving. But the satisfaction that you get from a well played shot here, is much more gratifying than you would experience at other courses. The more I play here, the more fun it becomes-unlike other courses that can become boring and predictable. If it is your first time playing here, grab a. " Local Knowledge" card from the clubhouse. It will help you navigate the funky layout and offers great hole-by-hole advice. The staff here is always friendly and helpful and truly encompasses a laid-back feel that is welcoming to golfers of all skill levels. Lessons from Dave and use of the driving range and putting greens have been really helpful in becoming a more consistent player. When they are able to dial in the final stages of this transformation, such as a restaurant and concert area, Goat Hill will be one of the great assets of the city of Oceanside. read more

I love this place. It is a throwback to old school golf, but not in the way you might think. The course is short, making it a great place to pull out the old persimmons. The layout places a premium on ball striking with small greens and steep hills. Honestly this is either the course that you love and play here all the time or it's the course you hate and play here once. Me personally I love it. Very challenging with a lot of strange holes you wouldn't find in a regular course and the hills make it challenging. It has a hole for literally everything type of player.(maybe not a long drive champ tho). Love the course and the only thing that I don't like is the driving range being at such a down slope that you can't tell how far you are hitting and also some of the car paths are made of straight up dirt. I play here almost every week and highly recommend for a average golfer that wants a really chill 18 holes for a good price read more

Stay away. Booked a foursome on golf now and have never had a problem getting to a course and asking for a junior rate until here. The guy working there told me they can't do it which is totally false. I have never had any problem doing this and have done it at numerous courses. Then we waited on several holes because they allow a 6 some to play on a Saturday morning. That's crazy. Their scorecard even lists room for 5 players leading me to believe they allow this regularly? For 40 dollars a round would never play here again. read more

Used to golf here a lot when I was younger. Haven't been for a few years and I went yesterday. Fuck that place..its still shitty, confusing and they added Frisbee Golf. So, unless you're a frisbee golfer, don't even go here. $15 for 18 holes and a cart is a steal but you'll find yourself waiting for slow ass kids with frisbees walking in front of you and throwing before you have a chance to walk on the teebox. Apparently, theres no course etiquette for them so you're gonna have to decide whether or not to wait forever them, tee off with them halfway down the hole or just leave. Stupid. read more

Can't believe we waited his long to check out the new GOAT!! All I can say is awesome ! The greens were absolutely in perfect shape. The layout is nice , the service it great and the breeze was on point . We only played the front 9 and I can't wait to see the course grow in but from what we played we were happy . The cart path is somewhat like a rollercoaster which could be a good or bad thing depending . In our case it was pretty fun. !!! :-) The golf shop provides you with a little cheat sheet that gives you info about each hole . Take its word ! I have been playing at Goat Hill for a number of years now. Yes its not Carlsbad Crossinigs or Torrey Pines but I think that it is a very challenging course. The new ownership is doing a wonderful job with its upgrades and I honestly cannot wait until this is completed and brought back to its original condition. Me and a buddy drove from San Diego to come play the disc golf course here. We were really excited to play this course due to its long features. We get to the club house to pay for our admission and get a golf cart. Once we go to pay the lady says "we don't rent golf carts to disc golfers because they're not responsible" so we call management and she says the same thing! This is poor service and last I checked when I go "golfing" for real I get all kinds messed up but seriously. If you disc golf don't support this place there bias and assholes and they wonder why there golf course needs so much help trying to keep them opened..... read more

This is a actually a fairly horrid course that isn't maintained very well. You have to go there and keep a good sense of humor cause it is unlike any other place you will play. So why the 4 stars: - Cheap. Yesterday I payed $23 for 18 holes with cart and a small bucket of balls at the drving range where you can hit off grass, so another plus there. - Not crowded. I played alone and there was no one in front of me nor behind me, so I went at whatever pace I wanted and hit a few extra balls here and there. For some details, the fairways are ridiculous. If they water it doesn't show. All the grass is dead and on prob half the holes the fairway is bare hard dirt. You won't be taking too many divots here. That is why you have to keep your sense of humor. A great swing can get you horrible results at times, and at others a poor swing will give great results. The greens are in pretty decent shape. I will give them credit there. A lof of challenging holes hitting uphill, over ravines, etc. Your accuracy has to be pretty good or you will lose a lot of balls. This is the first time I played here since they added Frisbee Golf. There were as many frisbee golfers as there were regular golfers. The Frisbee golfers were tolerable. One couple in front of me at hole 2 let me play thru. Thankfully. When I got to the second green they were just sitting there at the start of hole 3...putting on sunscreen, had a boombox playing in the cart. If they hadn't let me play thru I would have been pissed cause they were acting like they were at a picnic taking there sweet time just chatting away instead of keeping moving. I lost a few balls and I suspect they went down some of the many squirrel holes. Squirrels everywhere. They also have cheap beer. Something like 2 for $5. If you are a serious golfer I would not recomment. If you can laugh at yourself and your game, this place is a steel of a deal. read more

This review excludes the course pro, David Emeric who is a great guy and knowledgeable instructor. This course is run by a hodgepodge of shady employees and local's who operate under the protocol that any club or personal item not firmly in your grasps is theirs for the taking. Then again your clubs might not be worth much after a round of hitting off the rocky dirt fairways. I could probably get my self to stomach all of this course's shortcomings if it was priced appropriately but at $46. a round do your self a favor and keep driving! Emerald Isle just 5 minutes up the road has a great staff and far superior conditions at half the price. Arrowwood is only 15 minutes away, charges the same price for a round and is a superior course in every possible way. If you do decide to give this track a try, be sure to leave your valuables at home, lock your car, and bring a mid range iron from an old set that you don't mind scuffing up. Enjoy, and keep it classy San Diego! This is a gentleman's game after all. read more

New range is great all grass, and the grass is good! Got to play this course on the day it re-opened, and can tell they are putting a lot of work into it, it is starting to show. I really hope they can maintain it though. Only complaint is when I showed up to golf at 8am it was completely open, no one waiting and no one scheduled for 30+mins after my arrival. However the pro shop girl told me if I was walking I can go tee off but if I was riding I had to wait. What? This is the first time I have ever heard of something like this. I looked at the first hole and it was empty, guy just walked off the green. I asked why and she said it was because someone who was walking was ahead of me. I told her hole number 1 was open and I would take my time. She insisted I had to wait so I told her I would stretch on the tee box for 10 min and take my time. Unwillingly she gave me a cart key. The funny thing is the group ahead of me wasn't even walking. Small things like this really turn me off. read more

Center City has always been a bit beat up, which is why it's so cheap to play. I suppose it's an OK place to learn the game as a beginner, but there definitely better options. As they now allow disc golfers on the course, I can foresee the course not being as well kept in the future as they get this new revenue stream that doesn't depend on course manicuring. One plus is the memories of being a mischievous youth hitting golf balls from one of the elevated tees onto I-5. We also had a fierce bumper car battle with golf carts. It's the kind of course where no one cares about stuff like that, and it shows in how the course looks and is kept. Be prepared to wait on every hole behind either olds or terrible golfers also. read more

First step was registering and the staff at the front office were fantastic. The course was quite creative with lots of elevation change canyons and good topography. We walked the course and got excellent exercise. Lack of real fairways makes this a bit of a challenge with all of the dirt sand rock gravel woodchips and other surfaces. The tee boxes and the greens were in very good shape and the staff on the ground were also very nice. read more

SO FUN!! So happy the goat is back open and looking beautiful. The practice facility is so nice and spacious, plenty of room to hit balls and a great short game area. If I could give a 0 star rating, I would. Came here for my birthday ready for a nice relaxing 18 holes, and it was nothing but an absolute unorganized, unprofessional mess. Paid for an 18 hole course, was asked to play the first 9 twice due to a tournament they had let us know about while we were on hole 9, after we already started late due to a league. Our cart died not even half way through our game and we were accused of "riding it somewhere we shouldn't". We were rushed on our last 9 holes after being told that they had a private event starting soon. Had we known prior to that there was a league and tournament the same day; we would have taken our money elsewhere. We set our tee time 2 days prior as well, so some communication or some kind of warning letting golfers know of their other events would have been nice. This was by far the WORST golf course I've ever played on for the simple fact that we were rushed, scammed of our money for a full 18 hole course, and to wrap it up, being told "oh gosh thank you we needed this cart it's the last one for the tournament" before we left. Save yourself some coin and go elsewhere!!! This place is a nightmare! read more
