Wow! This place is a complete gem. We came here on a whim from out of town and HANDS DOWN this was the best dining experience in all aspects from start to finish. Bobby was our server, he was absolutely INCREDIBLE, friendly, knowledgeable, and just all around a cool dude. Then, there was THE FOOD! Wow wow wow! It's unfortunate we did not get the table we wanted as there were several dirty tables that would have been much nicer and near functioning heaters that weren't out of propane. The location of Thai spot is really great and in a prime location to the Funk Zone. The staff was all very friendly. We made a reservation for a Sunday morning at 11am but they were not busy and very attentive. The decore was simple and modern but appealing to the eye and very comfortable. The menu selection was not overwhelming and there were many things that one would expect to be on a brunch type menu. I enjoyed the Errol Flyn cocktail with Tito's vodka, lemon, simple syrup and iced tea. It was a simple spin on the John Daley - tasty but not strong enough. Friends had the Spritz and really enjoyed them. For food, we ordered the lemon ricotta pancakes. They were fluffy and had good lemon flavor. There was mention of whipped butter but that was melted upon arrival of the cakes. Still delicious. I also had the Protein Frittata. It was a good size and filling but not overpowering at all. Friends ordered the avocado toast and the smash burger - both were filling and they did not skimp on toppings. The French fries tasty but nothing special. A friend ordered the Shakshuka - wonderful spices and flavors but it did have some spice and I am sensitive so I couldn't eat the whole meal for my own liking. This has been my go to for coffee and snacks during the work week. Close to my office and dog friendly so it was an obvious choice. About 90% of the time things are great. The manager is amazing and most of the staff is super friendly. It is an absolute pleasure to be there. However the 10% must be the last resort of staff because they act like they are doing me a favor for taking my order (which they often mess up) - typically after not greeting me at all. My husband shrimp was well seasoned and the pickled onions added a little twist on the salad. The rest of the brunch menu looked interesting too. Goat Tree is a casual restaurant underneath Hotel California with some grab and go options or quick service sandwiches and salads (and some other brunch items, your usual cafe shop drinks, and a few pastries). You get a number once you order and then they'll bring your food to you which is easy! I got the wild arugula salad to go with tofu. They give you the salad in one container and the tofu in another which is nice so the salad doesn't get soggy, but also felt weird getting a slab of tofu in a box. The salad was HUGE (very arugula heavy and asparagus/strawberry light), but still good. I'd say it's a little pricier for such simple food that isn't unique to the restaurant or town, but it's a great quick service option if you just need to grab something easily. read more

I ordered the plain avocado toast and it was rich and creamy, just like I had expected. The perfectly boiled egg and cheese were a perfect addition and brought the whole plate together. Now for the dish of the day: Chicken & Waffles. This is not your traditional fried fried chicken and thick waffle, but to my surprise, I liked the Goat Tree version WAY better. The chicken was perfectly cooked, and the thin waffle gave it a nice contrast. The honey was to die for. We asked the waiter where we could buy it, but he said they make it in-house only. Five out of five stars. So good. We were planning on walking 10 minutes to a higher-yelp-rated spot for breakfast. But we were running short on time so we "settled" for Goat Tree. What a great surprise Goat Tree turned out to be. The service was impeccable, the food prepared and presented beautifully, and tasted just as great. The outdoor patio was spacious and lovely. I ordered the lemon ricotta pancakes. They were super lemony. Almost a tad too much. But I'd rather have more than less lemon. There was syrup available, but they didn't really need it. We shared a side of bacon which was yummy. My husband had a dish I can't remember the name but it looked Middle Eastern inspired. He enjoyed it as well along with his coffee. I need to update this review because Goat Tree charged me twice and despite calling four times and actually speaking to a woman about it, nothing has been done. She assured me that everything would be 'looked into', whatever that means. It has been over a week and they duplicated the charge for my brunch, which has officially gone through with Chase. While it is a matter of 30$, it is an extra 30$ that I should never have been charged for. Now I need to call Chase and explain everything to get my money back. The ambiance and the location were great. This part of state street will be the trendiest spot in town. The price was of course very expensive, but it shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone. The workers were green and need a lot more training because when you are charging $5 for a cupcake and $4 for a can of soda, the service should be impeccable. I agree with another reviewer who said they should have a water station for customers. Despite the fact that there were more workers than customers at 3 in the afternoon. I sat without water until I asked an expediter. Then the poor guy pour the water at a comically slow drizzle to avoid spilling the ice, but still spilled ice at the end. The food was satisfactory. Brown butter muffin had a tasty crumb topping. The rainbow cupcake was a cute novelty item. My rainbow and glitter loving daughter picked it. I thought only the frosting was rainbow colored, but the cake was rainbow swirled as well. It also had a butter cream frosting instead of the cloyingly sweet sugar frosting. The salt cod fritter had a flavorful romesco and even more flavorful grilled pepper, but the fritter itself wasn't as awesome as the accompaniment.
