Love this small little coffee shop that's connected with The Drift Hotel. They have a few seats outside and I'd imagine they would open the Dusk Bar for seating if the place gets too packed. The service was friendly and efficient for only being one person for a Saturday morning around 8am. The drinks are good with speciality drinks not common to other coffee shops. Unique caffeinated offerings and upscale, cozy decor. Good location to relax while walking around visiting the numerous shops nearby, especially on a rare rainy day. The air inside was a bit heavily perfumed, but the front of the cafe is mostly open to the outside air. We were thankful Dawn was open on Christmas Day. The barista was very professional and polite. Cute little cafe. I will definitely come back to try their coffee and sweet pastries. I had one of their savory pastries pictured : Portabello white truffle bachamel Gruyère warmed up. It was flaky and flavorful , but a bit dry for my taste even when warmed up. Maybe it could have been warmed a bit longer. They were pretty busy and I felt I'd be a bother to ask for longer! Service was okay - not especially warm or friendly but maybe just a busy day for them. I came on a Sunday morning. They had a self serve water station and pretty limited seating near the coffee bar. More is offered in the restaurant/ cafe area. Signs are posted not to block traffic from the coffee bar to the cafe - maybe they need to expand. Overall, would come back but maybe they could tweak some things for a better ambiance near the coffee bar. I did sit here for some time to finish my pastry. Dawn Café is such a cute and unique spot in Santa Barbara! I love the concept of having a café on one side and a bar on the other--it makes for such a fun and versatile atmosphere. Even though it's located below a hotel, you'd never know; it completely holds its own as a fantastic café. The pastries looked incredible, and the Matcha tins was super tempting (though I didn't buy a tin of Matcha this time). I got an unsweetened Matcha latte with oat milk, and it was so smooth--definitely a quality cup. There's a $1 upcharge for oat milk, but that's pretty standard. Dawn Cafe is such a cute addition to State Street! The baristas were friendly and funny and the cafe was cozy and bright! Ordered an iced vanilla latte with a toasted croissant and it was just what I needed as my afternoon pick-me-up! The perfect place to get a drink and enjoy the nice weather and walk on State St! Dawn is a coffee shop attached to the Drift Hotel. We primarily got the black coffee from here as it was complementary with our hotel stay. We also tried a couple of other offerings such as an iced coffee and pastry. Overall, the black coffee was solid but the pastry was lack luster. The lattes were good but not great. I stopped Dawn as I was exploring downtown. I happened by Dawn Cafe ± Market realizing that Dawn was having a Elite Yelp Event! I stopped in to get a Coffee drink and a bites. I decided on Alex's special Latte and a Ham and cheese pastry. Alex and Michelle were doing a great job of taking care of my needs as well as the other customers! The setting is quite pleasant. the first time I came I order a iced macchiato with mocha added to it and it was perfect but when I came back the next day my experience wasn't great. I ordered the exact same thing and received a half empty cup of milk and espresso and absolutely no mocha. Inside of Drift Hotel Santa Barbara, this coffee shop doubles as a bar in the evenings. Same space, different vibe. Really cool. But what's even better is the quality of the locally sourced coffee and the knowledgeable baristas. Espresso Tonic: perfectly balanced espresso poured over house made tonic syrup featuring lemongrass, lavender, orange and cinchona bark. I have never before had an espresso tonic -- but apparently it's a thing! If you're in the mood for something cold but need an elevation from iced coffee -- this is the drink for you. Fade to Green: matcha, water and house-made vanilla syrup shaken up well and poured into an old-fashioned champagne glass. YUM! Orange cardamom oat milk cappuccino: Just bringing this drink up to your nose before the first sip is enough to take in the intoxicating flavors of orange (reminds me of a well-made marmalade) and cardamom which work unexpectedly well together. Sprofashioned: riffing on an old fashioned, this has espresso, pineapple maple syrup and peppercorn bitters...not my favorite, but still a really well balanced well-made coffee drink. That orange cardamom oat milk cappuccino stole my heart. It threw me back to my life in India for another unexpected memory of my childhood. The coffee was incredible and they had delicious croissants. And the folks making the coffee were super friendly and knowledgeable! Went back again. Drip coffee tasted like it had been sitting for a bit (but I could be wrong). To be fair, I got it later in the day, well past the AM coffee rush, so it's understandable how that could happen. But they can make good stuff, so my advice isn't to stay away, it's to get an Americano if ordering in the afternoon -- as they're made to order. That advice really pertains to any coffee shop (that is, unless you're super familiar with it and know it consistently puts out fresh drip coffee even later in the day). Stopped by on a Friday morning. Fairly crowded but we got a place in the cute seating area! The inside of dawn itself is pretty small, but dusk is also opened up and available for seating. I saw some people working on the high chair tables. The decor is excellent! I honestly spent most of my time admiring the interior decorations and setup of the place, from the green and orange pops of color to the coffee books on the shelves. Customer service was very friendly and outgoing. I asked several questions about items on the menu and received a full explanation of each one! I ordered the heat check cappuccino, which contained chili. I honestly would have enjoyed it better without the chili, but I will stay on the safer side ordering next time and the drink itself was very good- just not quite my thing. However, the ham and cheese croissant was delicious. I loved the seeds on top, which added an additional crunch to the already crunchy layers of the croissant! Solid 4 stars for this place! It is tucked away on State Street in the sense that I've walked by this place so many times and never have noticed it. My mistake and one that won't be made again. Dawn cafe is AMAZING! The coffees, teas, and pastry items are great. It's nice when you don't get charged for a oat milk. The crew is super nice and helpful. They can answer any of your questions. They make great designs. They don't cover it with a lid so you can see the design. It's nice to have an open space where you can see everything that is going on. Parking is easy because you can park in one of the city parking lots. State street is closed so once you get your coffee, you can casually walk on the street or sit down in one of the chairs. This building is a coffee shop in the morning, cocktails in the evening at Dusk, and a hotel. read more
