I don't gamble because I never win. And my luck (or lack thereof) extends to catching street vendors. So just like I don't buy the lotto, I don't try to even look for a particular street food on purpose. But streetfood or not, Yelp-famous food seem to find me! During the height of my cravings for Dynamo's Maple Bacon Donuts but could not find the time to drive to the Mission, Dynamo's maple bacon donut literally fell on my lap once while attending a private event! http://www.yelp.com/biz/dynamo-donuts-and-coffee-san-francisco?q=leah+e And just imagine my joy when I went to fabulous party and the hostess gave away Gobba Gobbay Heys as party favors. http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/UPS_MoMYaTMMzlaeM0eiew?select=Q8Z9GBf_a7VdHi9nCKGa7w Like a big kid, as soon as she was out of sight, my 2 BFs and I opened the little brown boxes only to ask: "what are these thing-ys?" They're 2 soft little cookies held together by sweetened cream cheese. Pastel, cute and cakey but we didn't know what they were. I said, "maybe they're macarons." BF#1 Russ: After biting into a green gob, "It's sweet. You can have it." BF#2 Mickey. "Wow, we're like in Sex and the City. Cool event! *Chewing a gob* It's good but what is it!?! I went home and Yelped it. Gobba-Gobba Heys are WHOOPIE PIES aka MOONPIES! Now, I get it! Each box contained either: Box #1: GREENTEA Gob (Green pies) 2.5 Stars- Tasted bizarre and off. I did not like it. http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/UPS_MoMYaTMMzlaeM0eiew?select=kL9_JzL8grUjkpppvz22Nw Box #2: GINGER Gob (Brown pies) 4 Stars- Ginger was nice and with the right gingery spice to it. 4 Stars. http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/UPS_MoMYaTMMzlaeM0eiew?select=g6AFImH6IdViB9jWmETGOg I would love to try more Gobba Gobba's flavors such as saffron, cardamom, bacon, etc. for more taste-test but who knows when I would run into a Gob again. So Gobba-Gobba Heys are okay in my book. Definitely a whoopie pie for adult tastebuds but can never replace my mess-y, goo-ey, chocolate-y,marshmallow-ey whoopies of my childhood! Gobba Gobbay Heys are sold as streetfood and from a foodstand. They are a nouveau foodie delight and proudly concocted in San Francisco. Well, good luck catching the Gob Man! When you do, do not let him go until you tasted his whoopies! (Somehow this does not sound so polite!)

At first I thought that it would be redundant to write this review since I had already provided a heads up in my 4505 review, but since a few people appear to be misinformed or lost (have trouble finding this vendor), I'll go ahead and provide a helpful review just for reference. No, that's not a turkey call like in: "gobble-gobble", or an invitation to devour the food, although you can if you want to. The business name is derived from the riff "Gabba Gabba Hey" in the song "Pinhead" by The Ramones. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_jAVM0prVm4 "Gobs" are like "Whoopie Pies" (Gobs have a creamy frosting filling and WP uses a marshmallow fluff filling). What's a whoopie pie? The best example I can give you is think of an Oreo cookie, replace the crunchy cookies with soft-type cookies, that's it. How is that different from a "Moon Pie"? MPs are dipped in chocolate. Update: now it's just $2 for one size [Price was $1 for the gobbles, $3 for the gobs, or 2 for $5]. Steven mentioned that he offers a cheaper price by the dozen (pre-order), but I've never bothered to check what that was. Steven excels at coming up with great flavor combinations. Some examples: pistachio orange with orange butter cream, lemon thyme with lemon butter cream, black cherry chocolate with lime butter cream, etc. Yummy!! I like whoopie pies (or anything similar), and these gobs are really well made, so it gets 5 stars from me. Although I wish they were cheaper. Gobba Gobba guy (Steven) is relatively easy to find compared to the other street vendors, since he has 2 stationary locations with specific schedules that sell his Gobs: Pal's Takeaway (Tue-Sat. 11am-2:30pm) and 4505 Meat's food stand at the Ferry Building market (Thu. only 10am-2pm). IF you still manage to miss your chance, but would like to sample something similar. Here are a few local brick and mortar stores that make their own whoopie pies: Recchiuti Confections inside the Ferry Building, Kitchenette in the dogpatch area (occasionally only, must check website & limited hours), and The Chestnut Bakery in the marina (but that version is average compared to the other ones). You can buy Whoopie Pies online here: http://www.wickedwhoopies.com/index.php You can buy Moon Pies online here: http://www.favoritesof.com/products/moonpieframe.html

I'll start off my review with a sad comment that became all too familiar to me in high school: "Sorry, but it's not you, it's me." Ha, I finally got to say it. Zing! Though I didn't anticipate that the first time I would not on the receiving end of that comment will be from a food review. I brought that up because my lukewarm feeling should not reflect the quality of GGH's product, but more a reflection of my personal preference for this type of dessert, and I can't fault GGH for that. I liked their...ummm...gobbas...just fine. They had a fresh and subtle flavor to them. The man walking around with these things is one of the nicest people you'll meet. I can see why people like GGH.

OMG... like OMG... like OM f'ing G man, these things ROCK. I have been craving one ever since my first purchase. I got the 2 for $5 deal and was going to give one to my friend - but after my first bite I wanted her to forget I had it!!!! but nevertheless I gave her the one I bought her, I need my gobba gobba's!!!!

OMG!!! hunt this guy down!! the best whoopie/moon pie I have ever had!! not to mention fresh and natural in all its ingredients!! I was able to snag a strawberry shortcake one and the cake was so soft and moist, there was no indication of dryness which is A+ in my book. The filling had fresh strawberries and was light and fluffy. I should have bought about a dozen. too mad there's no mail order!

A little pricey for two soft cookies with filling in between. Still a good, small dessert.

I'm always hunting for spots like this because I have a weakness for those over-the-top, Instagram-worthy desserts that look like diabetes in a dish. Like most places in this genre, A Buttercup is small, modern, and minimalist with limited seating. If you plan to go, aim for off-hours unless you enjoy waiting in line for sugar. The decor is cute and trendy, perfect for photos if that's part of your dessert ritual. As they say, "you eat with your eyes first," and when it comes to presentation, this place definitely gets an A+. The desserts look stunning and set high expectations. Unfortunately, that's where things started to crumble. It's like going to see your favorite artist live. You've watched the videos, memorized the songs, and paid for the experience. But instead of the electric performance you imagined, you get someone lip-syncing and barely connecting with the crowd. That was this place in dessert form. We ordered the Mango Bingsoo on our first visit, and when it arrived, we were surprised by how small the portion was. The guy next to us even looked over and said, "Whatever that is, I'm getting that next time." He shouldn't have. The Bingsoo looked great but was bland, and the "snow" was more chunky ice than soft shave. The Thai Tea Roti was also not what I expected. It came with Thai tea ice cream and sauce alongside a roti that was fried to a crunch. Interesting idea, just not the best execution. The sauce and ice cream needed a stronger Thai tea flavor to balance the crispy roti, and the flavors never quite came together. Overall, A Buttercup nails the aesthetics but misses the flavor. If you're here for the photos, you'll be happy. If you're here for the taste, you'll leave with a full camera roll and an unsatisfied sweet tooth.

We came for a factory tour, about an hour long. It was fascinating and educational to learn about the craft of chocolates from fruit to beans to the chocolate bar, and to get to chocolate taste along the way. Their work is inspiring-adding minimal ingredients to their chocolate bars so that the flavors of the cacao beans shine naturally from where they originate. After the tour, we tried the hojicha hot chocolate, the celebration cake, and the matcha cookie. For the hojicha hot chocolate, the tea flavor was subtle, but good chocolate. The celebration cake was what we expected-glad it wasn't overly sweet so that cocoa is more pronounced, but it also wasn't too rich; I felt the chocolate here in some sense lacked depth. The matcha cookie was my favorite-a cake texture matcha exterior encasing a denser brownie-like chocolate core - a delicious combo! Last thoughts to prep for the experience if you tour- 1.) Eat before you go on the tour-sampling chocolate means you do get caffeinated, and you'll likely purchase more chocolate (more caffeine!) after :) 2.) Included with the tour is a complimentary chocolate drink of choice at the end, in case you were pondering whether to buy the hot chocolate or not ;) 3.) Dandelion Chocolate products are pricey but quality. Paying the price feels like it's appreciation of their art. If you love chocolate, it's a wonderful place to visit at least once!

The passionfruit drizzle had a nice tartness though I am not sure it was worth the $1.25 and it was a bit too tart to pair with the pina colada in my opinion.
