I don't like to give bad reviews... I just avoid dealing with them every again, but today will be something different! I was ready to take on another car loan with my kids being out of the house now. I had researched a bunch of different Honda vehicles. I called the credit union and they gave me a list of places within 60 miles. I saw a 2020 Honda Pilot with 60k miles on it. It had an issue where the remote start wouldn't work, and I found out what it was. After the repair tech wishing that I'd believe that it was a battery, and two trips... he decided to replace the tiny $54 part that I told him was the issue. It has been a little over 3 months, and I will most likely need to get the transmission replaced and the entire suspension. Of course there's no reported accidents, but I can tell that it was in a front end collision. I can't speak for everyone, but maintaining a vehicle that you're selling would be great, it's not as if changing fluid, a filter, or actually having people who can do more than replace parts. I should not have to diagnose a vehicle that I'm paying $26k for. My next vehicle purchase will be a brand new vehicle instead of trying to trust people who just want your money! I came in on Saturday with my youngest daughter to look at a truck that brought back a lot of memories. It was basic and clean, manual windows, no fancy tech, and super low miles. It reminded me of my grandpa's old truck. I wasn't looking for bells and whistles. I already have a newer truck. I just wanted something old-school, simple, and rugged -- something I could drive every day and not worry about beating up a little. I told Kierre I wanted to buy the truck that day ,but the ABS and airbag needed to be fixed and he agreed to do it free of charge. He printed and signed a full purchase agreement for me with all the numbers filled out. I explained that my bank wasn't open over the weekend, but I'd be back first thing Monday with a cashier's check. I made it clear that I was serious about the purchase. Monday morning, I followed up like I said I would. I let them know I was at the bank finalizing everything, not just to get the check but also to set up my own gap insurance and extended warranty. They knew exactly what I was doing. Banks offer far better pricing on that coverage than dealerships do, and I wanted to make this vehicle last. I had everything in place -- coverage for the drivetrain, engine, transmission, brakes, and more, just like I have on my current truck. They told me they had already repaired the ABS system, and that the airbag light was still on but they were ordering the part from the manufacturer. I said that's fine I'm still ready to buy the truck today, as long as they give me a proper "We Owe" slip with the VIN listed, saying they would fix the airbag issue at no cost once the part came in. That's it. I wasn't asking for anything unreasonable. Then they told me someone else had put a deposit on the truck. I said if that deal falls through, I'm still ready. A little later, they messaged me saying that since I had a signed purchase agreement, they'd return the other person's deposit and sell it to me if I could come right away. I said yes I'm ready to go now. I just need to know that everything will be in writing when I arrive. Then I waited again. And the next message I got said someone was in the office signing for the truck. I had everything ready. I did everything right. And I was upfront about all of it. I had the purchase agreement, the cashier's check, and the coverage already in place. But they chose a quicker sale instead. I guess if you're not financing through them or buying one of their higher-priced vehicles, you're not their priority. I've shaken hands on deals like this before and every time, I end up being let down. I'll be honest this one really stings. Very disappointed read more

This is the second worst dealership ive been to and thats saying a lot, i know dealerships are known for scamming people but i came in with the intent of buying a car and was prepared to lose some money on my trade in but between the uncomfortable atmosphere, the salesman coming up to my car before i even had the chance to park and being dumb as a box of rocks (thats being generous) and not remotely charismatic, the financial manager being just as dumb, and the car i came to look at having quite a few issues, i was still somehow willing to buy it until they disappeared with my trade in without telling me, came back and gave me an offer for my trade in, kbb said its worth 30k and carvanna offered me 26k and this dealership offered me 22k... if you value your time or money dont bother going to this place. read more

I would give 0 stars if possible. I purchased a vehicle from Goben in Middleton about 3 months ago and the AC was not very strong when I test drove it but didn't think much about it because it had been sitting in the sun in the lot all day with the windows closed on an extremely warm day. Life happened and I was unable to get it scheduled to be looked at by my auto shop until 3 months after purchased. They found that the cabin air filter looked like it was NEVER cleaned and there were leaks/issues with freon and AC system as a whole. None of this was disclosed to me on purchase and they assured me that the vehicle was inspection by their service center. This fix is going to cost $3,000 and is at least a 2 day repair job. I called Goben to see if there is anything they can do and they said since I purchased the vehicle more than 30 days ago, there is nothing they can do. I really hope people take their intent to buy a used car elsewhere. They also never told me that they do allow their vehicles to be inspected by an auto body shop. I would never have bought this vehicle after learning about this AC and filter issue. For a "family" company, they treat their customers the complete opposite. read more

On our car purchased from them in 2022 ...they fixed the bumper/cover/headlight with glue and zip-ties When I asked anout a prior accident they said it was our responsibility to ask for CarFox. We bought a 2018 Nissan Rogue on October 22. We noticed the tires were unevenly worn and didn't even match one another. They promised us 4 new tires, in 2 weeks. We asked our salesman how the brakes were. Without even thinking about it, he said "40%". Got it home and realized the HEAT didn't work. With winter coming. In Wisconsin. Also one door only locked and unlocked manually. Informed Goben of all these things and they agreed to fix them. Took it as soon as I could get it in to my very trustworthy mechanic. Brakes (pads and rotors) were needed all around. Our mechanic said it was unsafe as it was to drive and "should never have been allowed off the lot." I spent many hours going back and forth with the car so Goben could rectify these issues. It took four visits, and waiting in their completely uncomfortable waiting area for HOURS, and driving a loaner car. I told them working with them was an ordeal and getting a roadworthy vehicle was like pulling teeth. No one apologized for misleading/straight up LYING to us about the brakes. I would never, ever recommend Goben if you need a decent car in good repair at an honest price. read more

Worked with Ali and Juan and we had a great experience! We went to another local dealership right before this and it was a night and day difference between the two. Ali greated us before we even entered the building and was so helpful. They didn't have the car we wanted to see because it wasn't on the lot yet (totally fine because we didn't plan on coming here originally) but showed us the options available that were in our price range, around the mileage we wanted, and around the same year. Buyer Beware! Bought our daughter a car 10k 100,000 miles. She owned it for 110 DAYS and the engine blew. Warranty ended at 100 days. They likely sold us a pile of crap they knew about or did not have a dealership mechanic to look it over before selling it. Likely bought at an auction. What point is it to purchase a car from a dealership if they refuse to back that which they sell- buy it privately-I asked for the owners number and they gave me the dealership number and replied good luck. Bad business practices from Goben Cars. Non-disclosure, potential fraud, lying to the customer about supposed maintenance issues they fixed, selling the customer an extended warranty to cover costs they know the costumer will incur, and not abiding by their own 100 day warranty. I should have been leary when they stated that they only wanted me to drive around the parking lot for a test drive. They said a Wheel bearing issue would cause the car to not drive well. I was ok with that because wheel bearings are a simple fix. I purchased a 2014 Ford Escape from Goben Cars in March 2022. They held it for the first 2 weeks of purchase, stating there was a minor issue with the wheel bearings that needed to be resolved before I took ownership of the car. I thought great! They are making sure I leave with a sound vehicle. Shortly after taking ownership of the vehicle, I noticed some issues. I took the car back to take advantage of the 100 day warranty. I specifically asked that they check the transmission and engine for issues. They came back and said it was an issue with the Cadillac converter and motor mounts. They also mentioned that they noticed the breaks were bad and would fix that issue to provide good customer service. They held the car for another two weeks without offering a loaner vehicle (sales man said I could potential obtain a loaner. Service Manager ignored my request even after mentioned we needed another option to get our kids and my husband places. My husband had an out of town work meeting to attend at the same time our kids had school functions). Anyway, I got the vehicle back and I still noticed something off. I decided to get a second opinion from the Ford Dealership in Middleton. I again asked for a specific review of the transmission & engine. They immediately stated I had a transmission issue. Even though I was under the 100 day Goben Warranty, they ended up using my extended warranty which I paid the deductible for the repair. They also mentioned that Goben does not have the equipment to diagnosis transmission issues. However, Goben works with them on a regular basis to maintain their cars. Goben also mentioned this when they sent my car for repairs to Ford for the wheel bearing. Funny how they did not send my car to Ford when I asked them to thoroughly inspect the transmission. I contacted Goben that I wanted to return my vehicle at this point. They said they would escalate this issue. I never heard back. I was under 100 days at that point. In addition to the transmission issue, I picked up my vehicle. I have a receipt showing that the brakes are in the yellow zone. Meaning they need to be urgently replaced. So again, Goben lied about replacing the breaks. With my entire experience I feel that they were dishonest, shady, and sold me the extended warranty so they would not have to pay for the repairs. The only maintenance issue disclosed at time of purchase was the wheel bearing issue. read more

The most expensive Facebook ad I have ever been sucked into. I had been looking for a Lexus NX for some time, and low and behold, one popped up at Goben - exact model and price range I was looking for (lol, clearly far too good to be true.) I was there within 20 minutes to test drive. The car ~ seemed ~ to be in perfect condition, so I ended up buying it that night. A week later, I took it in to the Lexus of Madison dealership to have, what I thought, was a routine oil change and a general look at the car. Yiiiiiiiiikes was I wrong. The car needed an oil change, all new tires, a new battery, rear brakes, windshield wipes, a filter replacement after it had been installed wrong, and more. I promptly called the service manager, Darren, at Goben, as it was clear the car wasn't inspected (or detailed, for that matter.) He felt ~ awful ~ and told me to bring the car in to have everything fixed. Darren was great to work with and kept me informed along the way. Fast forward about two weeks later (Monday), I finally picked up the car after having the new tires put on, only to find damage to the back of my car the following morning. Goben did confirm I didn't come in with that damage, so clearly it happened while in their possession. All in all, I'm taking the L on the paint scratch because I can't trust that if I take it back in, I won't come out with another issue. After just moving to Madison from Chicago, my husband and I needed a second car to accommodate our work schedules. I chose Goben because I liked their inventory, the flexible financing options they advertised on their website, and the fact that they were seemingly family-oriented and willing to go above and beyond for their customers. We worked with Quinn and he was immediately willing to let me test-drive the vehicle I had been eyeing online, without doing the whole "used car salesman" spiel. He was not pushy, he patiently answered all of our questions, and he made the experience fun. After deciding we wanted to purchase the car, we went into the office to work with one of their finance guys. I recently graduated law school and my husband recently graduated medical school, so you can imagine that our finances are not in perfect shape! As such, we were not optimistic that we'd be walking out of there with a car that day. Let me tell you, these guys are amazing. I didn't catch the name of the guy who did all the heavy financial lifting, but he went so above his job duties to make it work for us. I recently had to find a new/used car for my son who is just learning to drive. I decided to try Goben mainly from reading their ad in the sunday paper. I have bought from them before but its been over 10 years since I had done that, actually it was about 18 years ago to be exact. My son and I dropped by and we met John, who showed us what they had on the lot for the type of car we were looking for. We spotted a Subaru Outback and he offered to have us take it for a drive. We did the test drive, the vehicle was in great shape, and rode really well. John did his best to try and get us to buy that day, but I needed to check with the family before we went forward. I actually dropped by later with my daughter and met Quinn ( John had already left for the day). After some research we found that Goben's pricing was actually better than anyone around including Milwaukee, so we pulled the trigger and purchased the car. Our overall experience with John, Quinn and Matt, was awesome ! The whole staff was very accommodating, friendly, professional and knowledgeable about the vehicle and process for financing. After totalling my 2015 Hyundai Elantra on Aug 23rd, 2021, I was devastated to lose that car however grateful because it also sincerely saved my life.. so I definitely wanted to get another. I tried to set up an appointment (but my work schedule is temperamental) so I came in without an appointment, but Ali, one of their Salesman met me outside. She was knowledgeable about the car, friendly, relatable, but more than anything- genuine. That's more and more difficult to find in almost any business these days. When you buy from this dealership you're not only getting a guarantee of quality but a guarantee that whatever your paying is so minimal of a markup after auction that there is no "bartering". Post-sale service is terrible. Goben provided me a "We Owe You" document as part of the sale of the vehicle. Don't buy into this program because they will NOT follow up with it. It's been three weeks since my purchase and I still do not have a set appointment to have the promised work done on my vehicle. They went as far as telling me to have my mechanic complete the repairs and to send them the bill. When I received the estimate from my mechanic I emailed it to Goben and they changed their mind because of the cost. Three weeks later I am still waiting to get my car fixed. The front brake caliper is sticking and causing a grinding noise. You would think their service department would have noticed this during their pre-sale inspection. I worked with John (salesman) and Matt (finance pro) over at Goben, and they couldn't have been more professional and friendly. I stopped in because they are tied in to Capital One's pre-qualification and Auto Navigator search engine. I had planned to test drive one or two vehicles that ALMOST met my needs found on Auto Navigator, but I ended up test driving a car that had a couple more features I wanted. They were able to get me the financing on it when I thought it would be just outside my range. I just had to wait behind one other customer whose package was being completed, and they let me know the options and got me squared away. I picked up the car tonight and couldn't be more pleased. After my first review I sought legal help, though I did not expect too much since there a lot of reviews indicating the unethical practices they practice daily. They managed to produce a document which I don't have a copy of that I "signed" while I been down there. The copy that was presented 4 months after the fact is not dated by me so I'm unsure how it magically appeared. I still have to indicate that this is a very underhanded place of business. I urge people considering visiting this location to look at all the reviews and know that they will hide behind the "as is" portion of the buyer's guide. Giving 1 star because there is no 0-star option. My son was in his first independent search for a different vehicle. After being talked into making a deposit on a vehicle (and signing an intent to purchase without being told what it was) he asked the next day if his deposit was refundable. Salesman's response was, "Tell me what you really want so we can all just get on with our lives." Obviously they would not return the deposit and son had no choice but to follow through with the purchase as he could not afford to lose the money. In addition to this incredibly unprofessional and rude behavior, this all took place during the COVID pandemic and the business practiced absolutely NO distancing or precautionary measures to keep clients safe. Son had asked to have all paperwork prepared prior to his arrive in effort to limit the amount of time in the office. They prepared nothing, and we spent nearly an hour waiting in a 150 sqft office with 4 sales people and 3 other customers. No one wore gloves or masks, and no one made any efforts to maintain distance or limit interactions. Sick to my stomach that my son interacted with this company in such an unsafe environment and that his inexperience was so shamelessly exploited. Never, ever patronize this business. read more

I bought a car from Goben and I will never recommend them to anyone! Their costumer service was very poor; they appeared very arrogant and talked down about other dealerships in the area to make themselves appear more reputable. I could also tell I was being treated differently due to my age and gender. After I purchased the car I brought it to my mechanic who found old, rusted parts in the engine compartment that were not attached and should have been removed prior. They sold the car to me with no wiper blades and without any gas and reluctantly put half a tank in it after I brought it to their attention. I also found multiple razor blades on the floor in the backseat where small children were often climbing in and out. Finally, there was a giant scratch (in addition to many small scratches that they did nothing about) that they said they couldn't take care of at that time because of the weather and promised to fix it in the spring. When I took my car back they had simply touched it up and said it was all taken care of... That was a lie! Its now rusted and will cost me more money to have it ACTUALLY fixed. read more

Im putting this out there for one simple reason, to try and help someone else avoid making the same mistake my girlfriend and I did. These folks are dishonest and do not honor their word. They told us we were covered with a 100 day warranty, we were charged the $100 deductable for the warranty when the car was purchased. Within 2 months of buying the car, well within the 100 days, we find out the U joint and entire drive shaft needs to be replaced. We took it to Goben and not only did they deny that we had a warranty (despite the fact we were told we did, and charged the deductable) , the owner was flat out rude, and pretty much told us to get lost because it is not his problem, and he refuses to fix it. I would never reccomend this place to anyone. There are plenty of other dealerships around. Two thumbs down. They are deceptive liars that will tell you what you want to hear to make a sale, then after that they dont care what happens. Avoid at all costs. read more

Horrible customer service. Once I purchased the car, the customer service was rotten. I had bought a car and it had problems right away. It was still under the 100 day warranty, so I brought it in for repairs. They were rude and dismissive. They said they fixed it, but upon inspection they did NOTHING! Called and brought it back in to fix it again, at which point they took it to a dealer (or so they say). I would not trust these people. I was at Goben Cars parking lot , just looking at the cars when a very young salesman approached me. He said "hello sir, what kind of car are you looking for" I told him "I'm just looking around for now." I informed him that I filed bankruptcy recently. He told me that they finance any credit, bad or good, so he asked me to come inside with him and complete an application. I told him that I'm not ready today and that I would complete the application on online. He kept insisting that I come in he told me it would just take two minutes and they would be able to tell me if they could finance me. I decided to go inside with him. He wrote down my information and took it to his Boss. I sat there for about 30 min while they were on the computer doing God knows what. I walked over to them and advised that I didn't have time and that I needed to get to work. they told me to give them 5 more min. Then the salesman walked me outside to show me a car. He informed me this was the only vehicle that they could finance me for. Which was very odd since there was cars on the lot that were cheaper than the one he was showing me. I told him again that I was not looking to purchase a vehicle today that I was just browsing like I had originally informed him. He took me back inside and asked how much money I could put down. I let him know again that I was not purchasing a vehicle that I would need to bring my wife and make the decision together. he kept pressing the issue. I stated I could potentially put $2,000 down for the correct vehicle. he wanted the money then, again I told him I'm just browsing and was not looking to make a purchase today. He then asked for $500, to put money down on the vehicle to hold it. I let him know for a final time that I was not going to purchase a vehicle today or put down money for a one. His boss who was sitting across the room yelled "So you wasted my time?" I turned around and said "No you wasted my time!" He then told me to "Get the fuck out of here." He then told his employee don't bring people like him to me anymore. That is when I left and I will never return. I am still in shock that someone treated me so unprofessionally. I want to warn everyone about this no one should ever feel the way I felt today. read more
