I came here with my husband and we both had a great time. I'm a vegetarian and he is a pescatarian and we both were able to find food we both liked. I was excited that they had fried tofu to pick from I got a bunch of veggies and they had sauces that were labeled vegan or vegetarian. My husband was able to get a bunch of seafood that he loves.. You can request white rice to go with it, but there's also noodles in things that you could add. It came with dessert as well. The buffet was pretty big. The cook was wonderful and helpful. When I asked if he was able to separate my food from other people's food cooking, he had clean spatulas and put these dividers so they didn't mix. First time coming here after hearing several good things and I only have more good things to add. Depending on the hour you go you get seated quick and from there you can get up and get your all you can eat hibachi. There are several different proteins, carbs, veggies, as well as a variety of sauces to choose from. I personally only went up two because the food was extremely filling but definitely worth the $20. Once you grab all your food you head to the circle grill and stand in front of a number and wait and watch for your food to be done. 20$ including tip for all you can eat lunch is quite a steal these days. I'm trying to stay close to a carnivore diet so I just had the meat options with some garlic and butter. It was delicious! This might be one of the best restaurants in Connecticut and the New England area. This is like a build your own stir fry / hibachi place and they're so many options! You make your plate with meats, veggies, noddles and sauce of your choosing, bring it up to the grill, and let the chefs work their magic! They also have an amazing salad bar and dessert bar - the banana pudding is a hidden gem! Handing phone over to aria. hi this is aria yeah its getting hard to type, cant think straight while my stomach is gurgling like a damn fish tank. so yeah. our "friend" neal said we should try this "gas" monogolian all you can eat. we say sure hell yeah, were game and were big sounds right up our alley You walk in automatically you know this is giving you the Hershey squirts, your appetite is building because all the seating is a mile away from the entrance (and the bathroom) anyways we thought we would just slip that in so yeah were kinda confused about how it works at first and were kind of just throwing anything on our plates, for example, some watery tofu, circular unknown meat patty. ok then they split me and aria up to cook our food. You kinda just awkwardly stand there with strangers and watch the try to chop up that frozen hockey puck. (props on that sauce throw though) We sit down and eat our first plate, I will admit its on us that it was ass, a practice round is obviously necessary and the lady in front of us was taking forever with the sauces, there was a lot of pressure. i wish we weren't so naive when we got up for the second plate. we had learned from past mistakes, and we were ready to season that shit up nice. while were in line disaster begins to strike and a war breaks out in our stomachs.... but alas... we persist and continue to yam on this food. Its not even like we just had some ice cream we put so much chocolate sauce gummy bears and marsh-mellows on it and it still tasted of nothing. 3.5 stars. We stopped here for dinner on a whim thinking it was just a regular Chinese buffet. We were pleasantly surprised. It is a buffet but the setup was like a hibachi/all you can eat restaurant. There is a protein, produce, sauce, and dessert section. Grab a plate and load up it up; the plates were on the smaller side, maybe for good reason. You can try all different mixtures and get creative. Your meal can come out bad or really good. At first I loaded up with fresh veggies but barely had any room on the plate for protein. Bring the plate to the chef and they will cook it up for you. Thankfully the veggies shrunk. On my second plate, I learned to load up with with the proteins first then veggies after. The proteins were frozen; there were seafood, meatballs, shaved steak, chicken, tofu, etc. The sauce station was great, I loved the sweet chili and the general tso sauces. The table service was quick and cold but that's normal for Asian buffets from what I've experienced. Overall, a unique Asian buffet and glad I got to try it out. read more

Also there is some 6 flavors of icecream - coconut, vanilla, mint chocolate, coffee, strawberry and cookies and cream, and other varieties of desserts and salads. This is a place where the quality of the meal is really on you. This is a place I've been to quite a few times and the kids are now asking to go here specifically as they love what they get, with some tweaks by me. We walked in to a crazy busy night but were still sat within 15 minutes. The place is not a fine dining establishment or anything like that, it's functional and while there are a few nicer areas the general setup is functional more than anything else. I don't think I've ever gotten an appetizer here and only rarely have I gotten the white rice. Normally, we head right for the 3 rows of food stations in back. The left is where we start with a salad. Good choices and don't be afraid to grab some veggies from the other row. Once done with the salads we return to the middle row and load up on veggies. One of my moves is to get 2 plates. Veggies on one and then a plate for the third row with the meat and noodles. Why? Because they like to separate the veggies from the meat when cooking and having on different plates makes easier. On the last row, I always hit the rice noodles as it's my favorite. The meats have a wide set of options from land and sea. Don't forget an egg on the side for some fried egg add on. Finally you come to the sauce and seasoning area. Here is where you get to explore and really figure out what works for you. If you don't know what you're doing, stick to a single sauce and try (do smaller food runs until you figure out what you like). If you do have a sense of meshing flavors, go wild. I have a mix of 3-4 sauces I regularly do now, and the kids now ask for "daddy's sauce mix" because they like it too. Don't forget to top with spices if you want to balance flavors. I also add a dollop of garlic to the sauce. Once done, you get sent to a spot and hand the dishes to the cooks who cook right in front of you. If you have an allergy, make sure to let them know and they will segregate your food from others. At this point, watch the show but don't forget to tip the cooks and also grab extra napkins and chop sticks (if you want). They are set on the cook line for all to grab as needed. The food is basically as good as you make it from a flavor perspective. The cook is on them but they do it about the same every time. When done with the hot food, don't forget to hit the desert bar. Good ice cream with toppings and some other sweets and fresh fruit options. The only knock on this place for me is that it is a Pepsi place and no Dr Pepper as a fall back. I couldn't see knocking it one star over that but truly the only real knock I have on Gobi. read more

I didn't think it was possible to find an affordable meal anymore, but Gobi has restored my faith. I last sampled a Mongolian grill in PA and had to refresh my memory on how to order. For those unfamiliar with how it works, you select meats, veggies and other vegetarian options from a buffet. The food then gets cooked for you on an open grill. Remember to put your sauce on the side after making your selection, rather than putting it on your uncooked food. I went back to pick up an egg so the chefs could fry it up with my meal. I'm glad I did that because it made it more flavorful. I enjoyed the assortment of meats and veggies, which went well with the noodles I chose. I added fried tofu and red onion. There's lots of room for personal preference. While my meal was cooking, I got a salad from the salad bar, and post meal I helped myself to dessert, which consisted of ice cream, pudding and fresh fruit. I took a small portion of each. I should mention that I ordered a tequila sunrise for $5, which is a great bargain. The service is good; everyone was friendly and helpful and in a pleasant mood. I'm so glad I found this place completely by accident, since I'm not normally in Southington and was just there to buy something. If you haven't yet been, I encourage you to try out Gobi. I love this place. Great food lunch is cheaper than dinner they have great seafood choices for dinner but the food is still good for lunch. A lot to choose from and very appreciative of the staff cooking they do not seem to get a break. The service is quick and we really enjoyed ourselves. There is also another row of salad items & deserts. I thought the list to choose from was pretty impressive. Once you make your selection you walk over to the open grill, find out where to stand from the cook & watch your food cook. The first time I went up I got sea food & vegetables, the second time I went up was meat & vegetables & the third time I went up was ham, pineapple, onion & two eggs. I was stuffed but couldn't resist ice cream with chocolate bits & whipped cream. The service was good and the $20 fee per person was worth it. So the nice thing is that it's all you can eat. The quality isn't amazing, but the quantity was plentiful. It's fun to watch the cooks cook the food right in front of us though. That's fun. It's not bad in the dining room. Nice Asian theme. Tables are a little close together, but it's still never been packed when we've been there. They really could spread things out more. The traffic flow is awful in the buffet area and it feels a little more like a hospital cafeteria. Sometimes the staff will cut in front of you to refill the buffet and not really acknowledge you at all. But not always. I'd been to Gobi when they first opened and this was maybe my second time going back in almost 6 years. When we walked in, we got our temperature checked by the machine they had and truthfully, many places need to purchase it and do the same. We got seated in the back booths which was nice so we weren't too close to other people. For our meal, we did the buffet which was $16-18/person and got the scorpion bowl to share for our drink. The Sunday buffet was priced at 18.95$ an adult and was offered a 10% off if you check-in on Yelp. This felt quite amazing as to see what they offered for the price. They had a salad and desert bar on one side. Then, they have all kinds of vegetables, meat, seafood and sauces for yourself to choose from. Then you walk around to the grill for someone to cook it for you. I thoroughly enjoyed this concept as it made me really happy watch my food cook in front of me. A full salad bar with 3 different kinds of lettuce, an aray of toppings and my personal favorite ginger dressing. Some items were eggplant, broccoli, spinach, red peppers,onions, and zucchini that I included in my dish. The third buffet bar has a few different noodle options as well as all different meats and fishes. It even has a sauce station! After your done arranging your personal concoction, you bring it up to the huge hibachi grill where they cook it all in front of you while you drool at the aroma awaiting your meal.
