We miss Goro, but the food from the new owners is still high quality fresh fish. Isabella took good care of us. The only downside was a lack of air conditioning. Muggy enough to make the water glass sweat. The house salad is simple and as good as ever. We had the shashito pappers as an appetizer. We didn't care for the sweetness. Olive oil, salt, and garlic is all that's needed. I had to wash up after that. The sashimi is still large and fresh. For some reason they torched the Escolar. We prefer it raw. The spicy tuna roll was good, with a decent amount of heat. The Rainbow Roll was good, but I forgot they use fake crab. The ceviche roll was large and tasty.

Spacious place, good food and great selections. Those peppers, don't be fooled, some are spicy! We got rolls, forgot to take pictures. Dr. Jeremy roll was delicious with the crispy salmon skin. Besides the rolls, try their Korean bbq short ribs, delicious! We had a great time with great service. Waiter kept refilling our drinks. Location is out of the way but we'd be back when in the area!

Never again. Godai has officially lost our business. We had just gotten back from traveling and decided sushi sounded perfect for dinner, so we ordered through Uber Eats to avoid driving. I ordered a spider roll and a California roll, and my wife ordered a shrimp roll. Unfortunately, everything went downhill fast. First, there was zero flexibility with customization. My wife doesn't like masago and wasn't allowed to remove it--she literally had to scrape it off the roll herself. On top of that, the avocado on her roll was brown with hard bumps. It was gross and clearly not fresh. Then there was the packaging. My spider roll, which is always premium-priced, was thrown into a regular to-go box and completely fell apart during delivery--sushi everywhere when we opened it. Meanwhile, the California roll came in a proper sushi tray. Did they run out of containers? It made no sense. Between the lack of customization, poor packaging, and questionable ingredient quality, this experience was incredibly disappointing. Needless to say, this was our last time ordering from here.

I'd like to say I've tried most sushi places in San Antonio and Godai by far is my favorite! From the food to the service this place was excellent. The ambiance and the style of this sushi restaurant is exactly what most people look for, the vibe was calm and intimate. I think Godai really captures the elements of tradition, service, and taste. I was very impressed with the delicacy of the fish and the preparation, it really helped with the flavors and enjoyment all together. The Korean cowboy as he is called is a master at his craft. He took the time to greet us and offer explanation of his one of a kind Saba nagiri. I've tried a lot of places and this saba was by far the best. The entire staff was very polite and helpful, they really made us feel welcomed and all together my wife and I had a very peaceful and lovely date night. Happy hour on Sundays is where it's at, we had the chance to try all of our favorites. This place was very special and I can confidently say it is now our go to sushi spot.

Such a cute little spot in San Antonio. The owner just re-opened this place several weeks ago, and brining brand new service and tasty food to San Antonio. If you are looking for great sushi spot, this is the place for you. The mood is great, service is excellent and you definitely don't want to miss the chef special. If you like to entertain, sit on the bar area, Steve is here to make sure your dinner experience is unforgettable.

    Tempura Bento (2shrimp, 3 vege)

The outside looks a little rough, but the service and food are excellent. These pics are from two sittings, one week apart. The tempura bento was disappointing in that it was small for the price, but it was perfectly cooked. Hamachi grilled jaw bone - surprised to see this on the menu and it was delicious. Tracy roll - refreshing and had the perfect yuzu flavor. Nigiri plate and sushi boat - the rice was perfectly cooked and seasoned and the fish pieces were the perfect size. This is probably now my 2d favorite sushi place in San Antonio.

I am writing this review with a very sad heart! The old Godai was really my favorite sushi spot in San Antonio. The chef used to call and notify when he brings different fish from Japan we would go and he makes us special dishes off the menu... I was driving by and I saw the restaurant open.... Decided to check it out and see what's going on still having the same name. It was so disappointing... the flavors everything went down hill! It is a new ownership. The place feels nostalgic and the ambiance feels like a large izakaya in Japan The service was ok the girl who served us was very friendly. They have a very cheap omakase deal which I will go check out soon for one last chance

We stopped by Godai because we saw that this was ranked #3 sushi in San Antonio. I am not sure if it was an old list we saw because I don't think Godai was a hit. Our server, I believer her name was Hannah, with long auburn hair, was great and very attentive. However, that was the highlight of the meal. Miso and salad were complimentary with the meal. The salad had so much dressing and was dripping off the lettuce. The miso soup was ok, a little on the salty side. We started with the Special Hamachi Sashimi. The first thing I noticed was the black plate did not look very clean and had smudges all over. There was a very small amount of ponzu sauce for the dish. This is usually our favorite shared appetizer and we did not finish this plate. Next up were some nigiri pieces, salmon, tuna, and white tuna. The salmon nigiri is always my go to when trying a new sushi restaurant however, this was very lacking and I actually did not eat the second piece. The nigiri pieces were a generous portion for the price but they were more "dissolve in your mouth" not "melt in your mouth". The chirashi bowl was lackluster. I've never had a chriashi bowl where I kept finding pieces of ginger throughout the dish. The tuna was a bit grainy and felt chalky in my mouth. Most of the fish tasted very "fishy". The rice was not usually what I get in a chriashi bowl - it was kind of crunchy and piece-y, not the usual glistening with a hint of the rice vinegar. The seaweed salad included was pretty good though. The shaved white carrot atop the dishes were also not the usual translucent white. Later that night and through the next day I found myself running to the bathroom. Overall, I would not recommend Godai and would not return. They do have good prices for the portion and good service but that is it. There are other sushi restaurants in San Anontio with better quality.

So glad this place is open again! Chef KC and Kamryn took good care of us, definitely recommend the sushi boat!

However, you need to make a reservation, if you plan on coming for a Friday night dinner though. The restaurant and parking lot is usually packed and for good reason. It's been 25 years since we walked the streets of Tokyo, but the freshness here brings me back to those days. I'm sure you will agree that not only will you get amazing service, but will also get to experience one of the premier sushi places in town. It's great for meeting with friends, as the staff will not rush you at all. For tonight's adventure, we ordered a variety of delicious items to share among the other couple, family style. The Spicy Edamame is a good starter. It's tasty and light enough to get the taste buds fired up for what was about to come next. Since the sushi chef was backed up a bit, having the Pan Roasted Airline Chicken arrive early was a fantastic way to take flight. With its mouth watering chicken, noodles and veggies, it's a must. If you want to increase the heat somewhat, dip the chicken into some wasabi and soy sauce. When the rolls finally started picking and rolling in, The Duncan Roll, was money as is Timmy's bank shot off the glass. The Blue Tuna roll left me anyways but blue and was one of my favorites. The grilled octopus was so good, that it made me second guess if Ursula was indeed, a bad witch. Overall, the choice selections are very wide, and you literally can't miss on any of them. If you are overwhelmed trying to choose, then ask the waiter to help guide your selections. Hope you enjoy the experience as much as we did and till next time, Mata ne!

We ordered the rock 'n' roll sushi roll, several à la carte tempura items, grilled tenderloin yakitori, and banana eggroll for dessert. The rock 'n' roll sushi roll was absolutely delicious. I do caution you when you order the tempura à la carte items that they are very large portions. But the tempura is crispy and well cooked. The grilled tenderloin yakitori was also a hit. Even though we were absolutely stuffed, the waiter recommended the banana eggroll for dessert so of course we had to try it. The banana eggroll was decent, but the ice cream stole the show. The server told us it was a banana walnut ice cream, and it was truly delicious.

We tried making reservations but the website said there were no reservations available. We decided to go and wait, knowing there were other good options nearby if the wait was too long. The restaurant was practically empty!! Started with appetizers of gyoza and iko karaage. The gyoza were good but the ika (essentially calamari) arrived barely warm, too heavily breaded, overcooked, and with a sweet sauce that did nothing to enhance the dish in any way. DH got a chicken katsu dish he enjoyed. I got a crispy chicken yuzu noodle that turned out to be a poorly executed chicken piccata. All the elements of chicken piccata were there, minus the balance of a good chicken piccata. So much garlic. Not good. An order of nigiri was also just ok for $16. I ordered unsweetened iced tea with sweetener on the side. All they have is an off brand pink packet. The tea didn't even taste like tea. It was brown sweet water. For over $100 for the two of us, we'll just stay closer to home for better and cheaper, next time.

I love the design of the restaurant and felt like I was transported to another place and another time! Service - 3/5 Everyone here was extremely kind!! It's a family run place which is super cool and I got some good tips on what to order. My rating is low because - I don't know what happened - but my food took over 30 minutes to arrive and I didn't get any updates of what the issue was - the person next to me who ordered much later got food at the same time as me and we ordered something similar so it was pretty frustrating to me / I think maybe there was a mistake with my order? Idk seemed like a weird situation. Also I wasn't offered any tea which apparently came with what I ordered until the end of my meal, I love tea and wish I could've enjoyed it sooner! Food- 3/5 The food was good although i think too much / too big! I ordered the nigiri which I love - but the fish was wayyyyy too large for the rice. It's not a bad problem to have per se, but I think it made me trying to eat it very awkward. You can't just put the nigiri piece in your mouth, way to much fish for this. I was trying to cut it to the size of the rice with my chopsticks lol. I think it's better to have the correct ratio on this, even though more fish is awesome. Also, I had one piece of fish that kind of had a vein / something tough in it - so that was disappointing considering I got 5 pieces for ~45$ and I didn't really eat one of them for this reason. The miso soup was probably the best part lol- I am pretty particular and have had some amazing sushi , so am a bit harsh on this but mainly just think they should fix the sizing of the portions so you can eat it how you're supposed to. Overall: 3.5/5 I think I'd give this place another try. I wouldn't order the nigiri again, but I'd like to try some other items they offer. I think I had an unfortunate experience here, so willing to give it another go.
