Wife suggested we come to papa nachos for a mini date / happy hour. We had great service from our waiter, the new restaurant is beautiful and nice The margaritas were wonderful and tasty! The food I was definitely not impressed I had ceviche and it was by far the worst I have ever eaten, no peppers or onions, and was drowning in oregano or Italian spice , and left a bitter nasty taste in my mouth. I came here for lunch after a strong recommendation from a friend. Well, I was rather disappointed. The restaurant itself is clean and spacious but sterile like a cafeteria . The menu itself is expansive and service was quick enough. I ordered the puffy taco plate. The portion was generous but you could taste the industrial "taco seasoning" in the meat. The rice wasn't bad but the charro beans were flavorless, straight from a can but it seemed like the menu lacked focus as it tries too hard to offer "something for everyone ". It did look like a nice place to sit and have a few drinks, but the food leaves a lot to be desired. I'll probably give it another shot, but maybe not. read more

Chile rellenos was pretty good. Rice was outstanding, Chicken Tortilla Soup was also terrific. Lemon drop martini was also amazing. Katelyn D was our server and she was the best!! Discover this new place last week when a friend invited me to join her for dinner. I'll start by saying this place is huge; Lots and lots of space. Menu was extensive with a lot of selections, and prices were actually pretty reasonable. Our server didn't go out of her way for us, but was friendly and food was prompt. I took my kids here for dinner and thought it was great. It's very nice inside, but also kid friendly and casual. The complimentary chips and salsa were brought to the table at right about the same time we sat down. All around was very prompt. My first time at Papa Nachos, and might as well be at the new location! The space/ambiance overall just felt huge and modern. Such clean vibes and lots of seating all around which is great when this place gets busy. I met a few of my girlfriends for lunch while our kids were in school, and yes why not, we got some margs to enjoy our kidfree time. We ordered: House Margarita Mango Chamoy Margarita Hibiscus Margarita Birria Taco Plate Fish Ceviche appetizer Double enchilada plate Chile Relleno plate Loved the fish in that ceviche! So tender and lots of flavor!! the Birria tacos were flavorful and meat was so juicy!! Our server also offered 2 types of other salsas to try and wow, I love them both!! One of them was definitely spicier, which I did enjoy (I love my spicy!!)! That mango chamoy marg was so good!! SO good that I ordered 2 of the large!! haha!! Wow! We tried the new location and will be going to often from now on! Tons of seating, nice bar and lots of natural light. There are a couple rooms to the side that can be used for event rooms. They have a huge patio off the back, so looks like they'll add outside seating at some point. And the patio is facing a nice landscaped area and not facing the hwy. The hostesses and waitress were very attentive. Great service! We ordered the chicken and beef fajitas and the shrimp fajitas. Huge portions and super fresh! Love their little serving platters that have drawers for tortillas underneath. They easily substituted my beans for grilled veggies, which were delicious! This is a fantastic new location!!! I can't get over how well it was designed, both inside and out. Everything we have tried has been great!! But one thing really stands out... Believe it or not, this is one of the top 3 chicken fried steaks in the entire city!!! The jalapeño gravy makes it even better!! Highly recommend!! read more

We visited their new location last night and was thoroughly impressed!! The interior is HIGE with a great bar area and what appeared to be large doors opening onto a patio. The service was a little slow, but they were slammed with a 20 minute wait. Our sever was friendly and efficient. Management came by and checked on the table twice, which was nice. Everything was phenomenal. The best fajitas! The margarita was a frozen mango margarita with a chili lime r, which was delicious. The Queso poblano appetizer is phenomenal.The nachos were great, and the fajitas cooked to perfection. This is my go to for fajitas & chicken quesadilla. I do not care for the refried beans because they don't really have much flavor but they're chow beans are full of flavor (kind of wish they smashed these as refried beans), and the racist flavorful. I went to the new, larger Papa Nachos restaurant in Leon Springs for lunch. I believe the restaurant has been open about a month now. It's a beautiful new restaurant. Big parking lot too. I have heard it gets really busy, especially in the weekends. I looked on Open Table and their website, but didn't see an option to make a reservation. Went for lunch on a Friday afternoon with a party of 3. We had a wait of about 15 minutes. We sat near the back of the restaurant, great ambiance. Big menu with various options and had lunch specials. Good service. Queso was a big portion, as were all plates. Everyone enjoyed their food. read more

I'm a huge fan of their puffy tacos, and my husband loves the carne asada. The guacamole is perfect, without a bunch of stuff in it I don't want. I like mine to be smooth and don't want onions in it. They make it right Service is almost always great, especially the time we ate inside their old location near HEB Leon Springs. The person that seated us was very kind and sat us at a table with a power outlet nearby for my oxygen machine. I really appreciated that. Our waiter made sure our chips were full and we had what we needed. My husband got takeout two nights ago, and it was hot, fresh and delicious. They put the refried beans in a separate container which made things a little less messy. Puffy tacos can be a bit messy so it's good that the beans aren't in the same container. The rice is very good. I hope things go well for them at the new location. We will continue to eat there. read more

This place is relatively new and is not too good. I've been here twice and since my second visit was no better than my first, I decided to write a review. We walked in last night and three mannequins stared at us. No greeting, no smile, and no apparent interest in our presence. We had to ask one of them to take us to a table. Zero stars for the front desk. Once inside, there is no way to tell this is a Mexican restaurant. It is stark and sterile with no ambience. Clearly designed for the type of clientele they wish to serve. The food is below average with very little taste. In a word, bland. If you're looking for bold, flavorful Mexican food, you should look elsewhere. The menu is Americanized and basic. The menu descriptions promise food the kitchen does not deliver. Frankly, it surprises me how busy the place is. The bright spot was our server. He was happy and full of information about the menu. We visited the new building and omg it is huge inside! It's so open and welcoming! The wait staff is on it! We had a perfect table that gave us a view of pretty much the entire restaurant....and it seems like a well oiled machine. The food is delicious and the drinks were great. My husband agreed with the sign outside - best fajitas! Do y'all have a Happy Hour? That's the only thing I couldn't figure out by looking online or during our visit. Lunch special until 3 pm. Food was 4 star, the whole beans received in cup, was more bean soup than whole beans. Beef taco /shell 5,star. Beef enchilada was 3 star, needed more flavor. Food quality has not been constant on our visits, usually late lunch times. Server was great. Answered my questions and addressed my concerns at the end of our lunch. The recurring major flaw, is the way the restaurant inside was designed. It is beautiful but made with all hard surfaces. Nothing present to absorb sounds. As a result sounds inside magnify to a point our servers have had to bend over or take a knee to gather clients food orders during busy times. I feel like I am ar a big Spurs game with the sound bouncing around. Those at our table have had a hard time to have a conversation with each other at times. The small room up front is designed so sound bouncing off hard surfaces is worst in this room. I have had to ask to be relocated twice from this room due the sound level. The kitchen area in the front do not have doors to abd from the kitcgen to the dinibg rooms. Another design flaw, as a result the seating areas loud sound comes into the kitchen area. I can not imagine how the staff communicate to each other in this work setting. read more

When we visited Papa Nachos' new location for lunch, it wasn't busy, so we expected a smooth experience. The space itself is clean and modern, and since it's brand new, the decor feels fresh. Unfortunately, the food and service didn't match the setting. We ordered a few dishes, and the chilaquiles were honestly the biggest disappointment. The eggs on top were super dry, and the sauce mixed into the chips was oddly sweet -- not what you typically expect from chilaquiles at all. The tortilla chips were also cut too thin. Usually they're thicker so they hold up and keep some texture, but between the thin chips, the sweet sauce, and the dry eggs, the whole dish just didn't work. The carne en chile was decent, but the Spanish rice had a strange, almost chemical-like taste. Overall, the food hasn't been the same since they moved from their old location down the street. We've been to the new spot twice now, and both times it's been disappointing compared to before. What really hurt the experience, though, was the service. Our waiter was extremely rude and seemed visibly annoyed, possibly because we ordered lightly for lunch. Even when we left, there was no acknowledgment from the front. It just didn't feel welcoming. Really wanted to like the new location, but between the food and the service, it just missed the mark for us. read more

I always order beef fajita nachos without beans (I'm allergic) and my husband and I share poblano queso, to have along with whatever entree he gets. Today, my husband picked up our order to go. The queso was horrible, had a very strange mealy and grainy texture it had never had before. The flavor was okay, but we couldn't get past the awful texture to enjoy the flavor. My nachos too, missed the mark and tasted nothing like they normally do. It's a great place very lively, the staff is great the food is great! The disappointing part is the way they handle call in orders. My understanding is the Ali the manager tells the staff not to answer the phone or take over the phone orders. Reason is they get backed up in the kitchen. I understand that rush hour happens but I also know that it's a bit disrespectful to not answer the phone knowing they are open for business and so I drive out there to place an order to go and they have to ask Ali permission. Advice is this of you call and no answer for an order don't show up because there is a chance that you don't get served a to go order at rhe counter. Maybe when they hire more people or change management. read more

Their Tex-Mex is great and freshly prepared, but don't sleep on their seafood. It's a second thought in most Mexican restaurants, but Papa Nachos has some of the best seafood dishes in this area of San Antonio. The Papa Nachos Redfish is absolutely delicious. Spicy grilled redfish and shrimp with serranos in a garlic, soy, butter sauce with pecans. The grilled shrimp stuffed with pepper and cheese and wrapped in bacon is very good and so well prepared. read more

The restaurant is beautiful and the service was good. Unfortunately the food did not meet the same standards. My friend and I ordered chicken flautas and the chicken was slimy and tasted off. We both have lived in Mexico and the food is definitely not authentic. Not sure if the chicken they used was can chicken but it was horrible and low quality. The rice was dry and tasted like artificial flavors. The only thing that was good was the salsa they brought with the chips. Not impressed with the food. We both got super sick and will not be returning to the restaurant. Mind you this was our second time in the new location. The first time we thought the food was not great due to recently being opened but on 2/26/26 the quality had not improved. I would have given cero stars if I could read more

Had to try the new restaurant, I think all new restaurants have great ambiance and is clean and shiny! The food was good, I'd say a solid 7 out of 10. Service was good until they got busy. The real surprise was after I paired the bill, they have a cash option which they don't tell you before you pay. If paying with a credit card you pay the service charge for using a credit card.
